I'm PEEVED because I typed out this MEGA LONG post regarding the songs I think push envelopes on this album and the server went down!! GONE!! ACK!!! Oh well....here's a shorter post on it.
Red Rover and Smile at You are the two songs I think push the most envelopes.
Red Rover is just wierd and PERFECT. His voice SOARS on this and the guitars are AMAZING!! He has outdone himself on the lyrics too...and knowing what the song means now...MINDBLOWING!
Smile at You is unique and mind boggling how he took this song and did a total 180 on us with it. There are no screaming guitars, no yells of FLAMING!!!! and no piano intro. There ARE her country-ish voice breaks, and Chinese/country guitar influences. FREAKY AND AWESOME!!
What does pushing envelopes mean to you? Is it doing something wierd, different than before, a step forward, a step back, perhaps? I think it's when an artist, musically and lyrically outdo themselves and everyone else out there. I don't expect anything like Red Rover or Smile at You from ANY other artist out there!! BRAVO LINDSEY AND STEVIE!!
