It isn't up on my AOL . . . the same page is posted that has been there for days

Hmmm - I see:

Listen to 'Smile At You'
Listen to their new CD, 'Say You Will'
Listen to Disc One of 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac'
Listen to Disc Two of 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac'

Clicked on the second link and I'm listening to SYW!!

"Illume" isn't grabbing me as much as I'd hoped it would, at least on first listen. Although there is a LOT of passion toward the end.

I don't see any new links either yet...is there a special link that I am missing?

Don't forget for those of you who don't have AOL, you can go to http://www.aol.com and download AOL 8 plus. It is free for 45 days, so if you don't want AOL, cancel it before the 45 days and you won't be charged.

Dave,
Do tell...how is "Running Through The Garden"? Please tell me it sounds like the original...not so much Stevie's voice...what I mean is the style...is it the same?

Also, how is "Goodbye Baby"?

Thanks for the info!

AOL doesn't let you choose tracks -- it's one continuous stream. I'm up to "Red Rover" at this point.

"Illume" will take some getting used to for me. As a native New Yorker, and someone who worked for NYU on 9/11 (and who saw the towers fall) I really had high hopes for this song. Toward the end Stevie sings with a powerful and emotive quality... but it's just not pulling me in emotionally yet.

"Murrow..." is quintessential Lindsey. I didn't listen to his demos for the solo album. So, if you love solo quirky Lindsey, you'll like this. If not, you probably won't be crazy about it. No Stevie on this track from what I could hear.

"Red Rover" is very catchy thus far. Lots of Stevie on backups.

Hmm, not sure about Stevie being on Red Rover. Don't really see a point.

Murrow is one of my faves. The voices just coming out of everywhere on the chorus is phenomenal.

Just please tell me Come hasn't been altered too much, and still features the 2 minute guitar solo.

dmartnyc
04-10-2003, 09:12 PM
Actually, sorry -- I confused "Miranda" and "Red Rover."

Miranda has lots of Stevie and is very catchy.

Red Rover is again more in the style of experimental Lindsey. Excellent guitar playing, and an interesting arrangement.

Wow. Ok, it took seven tracks but I am blown away. The short clip of "Say You Will" did not do the song justice.

Undoubtedly Stevie's most radio friendly and commercial song in AGES. It fades to children singing the chorus (really!!). Simply amazing!!

This could be a huge hit!

The quality is ok -- I'd say it probably sounds equivalent to mp3 at 128kbps without a good equalizer. Remember, I'm on broadband -- no idea how it'll sound on dial-up.

No Stevie on "Come." I never listened to the Gift of Screws demos, so I have no point of reference there. It reminds me quite a bit of "This is the Time" from OOTC.

Dmart - How long is Come? The original was around 6 minutes, and featured a huge guitar solo for nearly 2 minutes... Is that still in there? If it has been cut down, I'm hoping it's the verses that have been, rather than the guitar solo.

04-10-2003, 09:35 PM
Oh jeez, I don't want to raise or lower hopes for anyone who heard earlier demos of the Lindsey songs. The entire album streams so I'm not sure of the song length. I'd say it was indeed about 5-6 mins, and there was a lonnnnnggg period of excellent guitar work 3/4 of the way through the song.

LOL ok, twist my arm.... ;-)

"Running through The Garden" is very reminiscent of the demo we all know from the 80s. Lindsey didn't do too much tinkering with the arrangement. Stevie's vocal is very strong on this track. Sounds like Sharon & Lori sang backup.

"Silver Girl" is mid-tempo and melodic. Almost melancholy.

"Steal Your Heart Away" I assume we've all already heard on the fm website.....

"Bleed..." is such a breath of fresh air. Does anyone know if this is the track Christine appears on? I ask because I swear I can hear her harmonies in the chorus but with the less than stellar quality it is tough to tell. Not too different from the Dance, but a nice and long extended instrumental fade.

Hmm, I'm sure the idea of Red Rover, Murrow, Come etc being on the first half was to make that side stronger, and the more "generic" stuff for the end.

Thrown Down being about Lindsey is interesting. If Everybody Finds Out turns out to be about him, wouldn't that be rather classic :)

Hawkeye - I need another listen to "Silver Girl" (or two or three more listens). I suspect I need to really concentrate on the lyrics to get into it. It was a very pretty arrangement, almost akin to "I Miss You" (but different at the same time).

"Everybody Finds Out" is a rocker. Just truly terrific. It'll kick live on stage. "Say You Will" has hit written all over it, but "Everybody" is probably my favorite track thus far.

Okay - "Destiny Rules" - for those of you who heard the short clip, you basically heard this track. Nice guitar solo from Lindsey.

"Say Goodbye" -- WOW. Amazing acoustic guitar picking, amazing lyrics, amazing vocals. Wonderful (high!) Stevie harmonies. Possibly Lindsey's finest moment.

One more track to go......

Oh my.

The one-two punch of "Say Goodbye" and "Goodbye Baby" is just incredible. Awe inspiring.

"Goodbye Baby" is a very different arrangement from the demo we all know and love, but it is nonetheless the same song. I am really at a loss for words. Lindsey's arrangement here is flawless. Almost a music-box quality to it. Stunning, stunning instrumentals. Stevie's vocal is flawless. Delicate. She does not sing in a lower register, and nails it. Delicate. Delicate. Delicate.

My overall first impression is that this is an amazing album. I must admit I'm more of a Stevie fan (although I love Lindsey). Not having heard the GOS tracks, some of his songs will take some getting used to for me. I do think the 2nd half of the album (starting with "SYW") is stronger musically, at least on first listen.

Can't wait to discuss as the link starts to appear on AOL for everyone!

Best,
Dave

Red Rover - pure Lindsey bravado. Sounds like the GOS version.

Illume is . . . . pretty different. Kinda depressing (but then it is supposed to be).

Miranda - S & L sound awesome together!!! I like this one! Reminds me of the Buckingham Nicks harmonies.

Say You Will - who the hell are the kids singing at the end???

Peacekeeper - they kept the original lyrics - "take no prisoners, only kill", instead of "break their will".

Come - HOLY GUITAR GOD - Lindsey rocks out on this one!!!!

Running Through the Garden - Stevie rocks out - I mean - ROCKS OUT - classic '80's - no disappointment here!!

Say Goodbye - Very similar to the GOS version. Beautiful job, Lindsey.

Goodbye Baby - truly awesome, great extra lyrics (we'll be together some day) - beautiful Stevie song - I am not disappointed and the demo is one of my favorites.

Excellent job - Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John. Well worth the wait. Do I hear #1 debut?

I don't think you Lindsey fans will be disappointed at all with these new tunes. Now I am not a Lindsey nut, but I have all the GOS demos and have heard them several times. The new songs sound very similar to the GOS demos IMO. Even the way he sings the song sounds the same, so I am wondering if he just used those voice tracks from the GOS sessions. Anyway, there are plenty of Lindsey "Guitar God" Buckingham solos in there, for sure. Red Rover and Come are sure to please you all!!!:wavey:

rofl - Stephen Hawking! (that'll be the first and last time that guy gets mentioned on The Ledge I think! )

But yeah I do hear it like that. Yet the sound quality is so bad in the version I got from the interview at burnish.net that who knows...

RTTG the worst Stevie Song!!!!!!!!!? Blasphemy!!!!

Yeah, I'm afraid that RTTG didn't make the transition too well.

The lyrics Stevie repeats from Illume in Destiny Rules are:
"I like the costal cities
I like the lights
I like the way the city blends into the ocean at night
It's like living on a working river
The coasline is glittering
Like a diamond snake in a black sky"

"i'll bet stephen hawking has never been mentioned here!!" lmao... anyway... i can't hear it... to me it really does sound like little girls singing. i'll go have a listen to the one on burnish that you mentioned and see if i can see a difference.

JessicaLeigh - I didn't realise you had heard the AOL version. I think the interview one is about only half of the sound spectrum or something ... I've heard the clip on fm.de and SYW has much more instrumentation there. In fact, maybe it's just that the interview clip seems to be all squashed into mono.

If the better version sounds like real kids that begs the question - is it because it is real kids or because the effect Lindsey's used works better in stereo...

Wow...I wouldn't think that Stevie would take a whole verse and use it in another song. Especially for songs that are on the same record! How strange.

Well, I hopefully will still like RTTG.

no i have't heard the aol one... i've been listening to the 1 or 2 min clip that's been floating around the last couple of weeks.. and my opinion is just on the backing vocals on that clip... i don't have access to the part where people are talking about the voices like fading out or whatever.

Well it's not that dodge - lest we forget the That's All For Everyone and I Know I'm Not Wrong crossover.

In fact, for me, having that continuity within an album is more 'artisitcally justified' than doing it all the way through your career. I love the idea of an album (er, CD) that has its own special place, and meaning.

Ahhh... Well see if you can check out the Interview Part 18 MP3 at burnish.net, then you can see what you think... It fades out to solo on the 'girl' voice at the end.

OMG! Brainflash!! (If that is a word!) Lindsey and Stevie had a kid during The Dance! That's what Everybody Finds Out is about, becuase we find out by them debuting her on Say You Will!

I Love "Everybody Finds out" . "The Tower" is much different , so get it in your head that it will be different so as not to get dissapointed. Lindsey did a great jog with it. A general note, all the songs sound SO MUCH BETTER then what we have heard so far. (much better quality) Lindsey tinkered here and there with his songs, but they are pretty much the same. I like the live version of "Bleed to love her" much better. more tomm.

At the top it says "Listen to their new CD Say You Will"

Or you can do a search on AOL for "Fleetwood Mac" - it's the same page.

Thank You so much Mad4Stevie!!!!
I was starting to lose it cause I could not find it.

but I must say RTTG is probably the worst Stevie song on the record, IMO.

 Tis' NOT! LOL.... I am glad it is not too different from the demo....

RTTG is fantastic! And great guitar work. Very similar to the demo, and I didn't even miss the lack of dual voice tracks. The only thing I really miss is the way she screamed "to CUT DOWN!" on the demo. Now she just sings it, but it's still good because her voice sounds like it's in better shape than it was on the demo. And how fun is the acoustic beginning?!

And let's face it, if this album has a clunker on it, it's without a doubt Silver Girl. But I don't even care because the remaining songs are all so good that it doesn't even matter.

To be honest I've only listened to everything once just to satisify my five-year long curiosity - I'm waiting till Tuesday to listen again when I can hear it better on my stereo -- so you may be right. I'll be able to judge later. The point is, RTTG doesn't suck loll!!

I think the stream's crappy quality makes it hard to hear but this is definitely Stevie's voice with effects.

   Running Through The Garden is my favorite song. Now Silver Girl? In a weird way it remids me of Docklands. I would much rather have had All the Beautiful Worlds or Not Make Believe in it's place. To Lindsey's credit, he didn't mess with RTTG at all. I love it.

There's a distinct high note that would be very hard for anyone to hit. These are not normal voices.

which note? like, where in the song? cause i think it sounds totally do-able for a young voice if it is in fact children singing it.

well darn it.... i guess they didn't credit who or what is in the backgronud in the song say you will.... hmmph... i still stand by my original opinion that it sounds like real children and not stevie and lindsey's voices messed with... oh well...

I really thought at first that those were kids. But the more and more I listen to it I don't think so.

I think that the "children" voices at the end of "Say You Will" are Sheryl Crow's backing vocals VSO'd...or whatever you call it.
