In the new issue of US weekly(Reese Witherspoon on cover) they have Stevie's letter to the troops in there...stationery and all. There is also a quote from Stevie:
"I have many, many fans in the armed forces, and I support them wholeheartedly. I feel they have to be there, they are told to be there, and if I was over there, I would want to know that everybody here is supporting me. So I support them"
This letter is certainly getting quite a response!

Now, someone tell me, why didn't Natalie Maines LISTEN and PAY ATTENTION to the QUEEN OF ROCK AND ROLL and learn to SUPPORT her country and the troops?!?!?
GO STEVIE!!!!!!!

To my knowledge Natalie never said she didn't support the troops. She said she didn't support the president or the president's decision to send the troops over there in the first place.
You can support the troops without supporting the president's reasoning for war.
IMO, of course.

Natalie made her comments before the war started and she apologized.
I think anyone who ever said something and then realized later that it was wrong and then apologized should accept Natalie's apology. Otherwise, I hope people are far nicer to them when they realize a mistake and subsequently apologize.
Moreover, I think anyone who has ever criticized a president during a time of conflict or peacekeeping mission (which by the way would have been a significant part of Bill Clinton's 8 years, e.g. Bosnia, Rawanda, etc.) has no room to criticize Natalie for doing not even the same (again, her comments were made prior to any fighting).
Finally, Stevie and many, many other people including the President of the United States said they were against war and for peace prior to the fighting. Now, once they have realized that peace is not an option, many of those same people are for the troops a la the letter from Stevie, which is fine with me.
Sorry for the rant, but this is a pet peeve

hey golddustchic, what kind of response is the letter getting specifically?
I'm just curious.

I've just heard some people mention that different radio stations have read the letter on air. Not a whole lot of attention I guess...but more than I would expect.

oh, ok, I thought you meant responses in the magazine itself. It made me wonder if people were blasting her for it or sayin' "Way to go!" like we are.
Thanks!

Stevie is in this week's issue as well. They ask her a few questions and her answers are posted. There is also a nice picture of her in a top hat with feathers.

Cool Ill have to go pick them up! Im sure Stevie will be popping up in magazines with the release of SYW.
I do agree though, Natalie did and does support our troops. And just because she may not support the prez doesnt make her a traitor. Its everyones right to have their own opinion and not get crucified for it, and asides she did apologize.
BRAVO Stevie for the heartfelt and positive sentiment in your message to the troops!
