View Full Version : Slow Ticket Sales For This Tour?

Question:
Do you thing that this tour will be successful as the Dance? I just looked on the general presale and noticed that one hour after going on sale that there were tickets still available on the floor in Cleveland? Good seats were still available in Pittsburgh as well.
If so, why might this be? My thoughts are:
1. The Dance was way better promoted with the hype of the MTV concert and all. And as far as I can tell, Peacekeeper really hasn't taken off. And of course, no videos for this album.
2. The prices of the tickets are much more steep. What really surprises me is that the $125.00 cover such a wide range of seating options. In cleveland for example, they include almost the entire arena. The whole lower section are all @ $125.00. The upper section is $75.00 and the $49.00 tickets.
3. The No Christine factor.
Just curious what you all think.

I agree. The price is insane. I think maybe $80 would be reasonable, but $125. Yikes. And the whole no video thing, I just don't understand. VH-1 would play it.
What really surprises me is that the $125.00 cover such a wide range of seating options
I think you hit the nail on the head there. I think that's high for any seat in the house. If I recall correctly $75.00 was the hightest price for a ticket duing The Dance Tour. Maybe it's a good thing that some of these artists charging outrageous prices for tickets get their egos deflated once in a while. There's a limit to what sensible middle to lower income people are willing to pay for a concert and everything else that goes along with it.....programs/tour merchandise, food, drinks, transportation, and parking. You know it's just not the band that has to rely on some of these things that night, but the fans do too!
Whatever happened to the day when you could have a good time going to a concert for $30?! :distress:
If I can't get a decent seat for a reasonable price I'll be content with the cd.

NO WAY will it be a successful as The Dance tour. I think the higher ticket prices combined with the economic landscape. People are just being more conservative with what they spend their disposable income on, w/ people out of work or afraid of lay-offs...the stock market still in the toilet and the political situation worldwide...Part of me is inclined to think that is why the ticket prices so high....because they know they are not going to sell out, but it still keeps their (venue) profits guaranteed. But I've noticed concert ticket prices in general lately are sooo crazy....I was going to buy Annie Lennox tickets last week and that was gonna set me back $85 a ticket....so yeah, I too will be cutting back on my concerts this summer....The music and world landscape are sooo different then back in 97' right when everything seemed to be booming.
I think they are taking a wait and see thing w/ the video...esp for the first single to see if it takes off....it makes sense...esp. now that they have announced this tie in w/ NBC - the same promotion tactic they used for Bruce Springsteen last year....And then perhaps do a video for the 2nd single..besides, the thing is...MTV, we know will not play it!! and VH1 is wanning and not as popular as it was in the late 90's when Behing The Music and a few other flagship shows (pop-up videos) were HOT...they are currently struggling with their own identity....
But on the Bright and Definite side.....We will have a BEYOND OUR IMAGINATION NEW CD...to cherish for years to come.....from what I've heard of these new song clips....I think this will be their BEST CD since "Tusk" or dare I say...."Rumours"...These new Stevie songs are easily her best on a FM record since Tusk!!!:D

I think it is the ridiculous price of $125. Of course I paid this amount, having never seen them in concert and realizing this would probably be my last chance. But considering I paid $55 for a Bruce Springsteen ticket for similiar seats makes me wonder about the greed factor.

Exactly? Does anybody remember that Diana Ross & the Supremes tour a few years ago that eventually had to be cancelled because nobody bought tickets because they were all too much, I don't think this band does.

Who was it in the past couple of years who was charging $200 and $250 for seats?? I know John Mellencamp did here in his own damn hometown. I believe Elton John was doing the same thing. It's damn rediculous if you ask me. I guess looking at that, $125 for Fleetwood Mac isn't that bad..
Hell, I paid $16.50 to go see my first concert back in 1988... I have yet to see ticket prices so low.

Everyone is talking about $125 tickets....the tickets for the Meadowlands in NJ are $135.
Did this price discrepancy happen anywhere else?

I'm really upset about this. Of all places in the country, this tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT) has suffered the most economically in the aftermath of 9/11. NOTE: I'm not saying it's the most economically depressed area of the country, just that we had immediate and devestating job losses directly associated with the tragedy at the WTC, and it continues to this day for many people. I know the effects of this tragedy have reached every corner of the nation, but it was (is) especially tough here. (Don't even get me started how our "esteemed" Mayor has raised our property taxes 18 1/2% in January and plans an additional 6% in July to try to fill in the budget deficit NYC has!)
My husband is trying to talk some sense into me about this pricing situation - he is asking how the tickets are priced for each venue - is it adjusted due to the cost of each venue, are there union/non-union issues, and does the band have a profit amount they require?

I can just imagine how much Las Vegas is going to cost.
I agree that this tour will not fare as well as The Dance tour did and the high ticket prices + the state of the world will be to blame. Speaking of ticket prices, it's ridiculous, but as long as we keep paying them, "they" will keep on charging them.

What really amazes me is how tours like Billy Joel and Elton John are so dam successful and they've been doing the same tour for 5 years with the same exspensive ticket prices. They got away with 175.00-85.00 (45.00 for nosebleeds behind the stage and at the ends). I dont think i would pay 175.00 for even the mac!

The most expensive tickets for Springsteen are $75! (so I just bought more of them, natch!)
I really am curious how ticket prices are actually determined (rather than speculation). Does anyone know?

....who has spent a bundle on concert tickets this year already, and the outdoor summer concert series hasn't even been announced yet! Hope my kids have contingency plans for college educations!

are the ticket prices (from memory) of the Paul McCartney show & the Rolling Stones show in OKC:
Paul McCartney-$50-$67.25-$150-$250
The Rolling Stones-$90-$150-$200-$300
and Fleetwood Mac tickets are-$46.50-$75-$125
The Rolling Stones ticket sales were so soft that ticket prices on the day of the show were dropped dramatically, I bought a $150 seat for a $50 ticket!!!
Even though I think tickets prices are getting too expensive, I bought 1 FM ticket...Mainly because they havent played here in OK since 1980 and I've never seen them live before!!! Brian J.

I think that after the cd comes out, you will see a spike in ticket sales. I mean, we all know and there has been some good press, but the majority of people will not even know they are on tour until the cd is out.
