View Full Version : Christine who???
For those of you that have heard the 6 snippets of SYW songs......and with no disrespect to Christine McVie cause i love her but....
are any of you missing her at this point? I'm not...there's enough going on with Stevie and Lindsey's songs......I don't feel her absence yet....maybe i'll think differently after i hear the complete album. Then again, i was always a B/N fan to begin....Christine who????

I miss her in general and can only speculate on what songs she would have brought to the table, etc. Having said that, on this particular record, I miss Chris a little in harmony bu that is about it. So, I think you are correct, they uccessfully achieved their Buckingham/Nicks goal. What I have heard is great!!!!!
That'd be Christine McVie. By the way she supposedly has an album coming out later this year. But to answer your question....NO I am not missing Chris at this point........"Destiny Rules"!

I'm not... I like some of her songs, and think she's got a lovely voice, but she just bores me a little to be honest. Maybe that's to do with her being on stage with Lindsey, who was the most energetic performer I've ever seen.
I think it's great that they can go a slightly rockier direction now. I feel, had this album been very poppy, it wouldn't be as well received as I think (hope) it will be.

As a musician ( Thursdays at the Hexagon Bar in Mpls) and a keyboard player, I have to say that I absolutely miss Christine. No disrespect to Stevie and Lindsay, but this record, while it sounds wonderful, is a different era. Just as in the NBA, or any other performance art, you cannot compare eras. Christine crafted some of the loveliest songs performed by FM.
Also, I think part of what people are saying about stage presence is unfair, given the nature of the keyboard. Despite the 'key-tar' and other gimmicks, we keyboardists just don't get out front much.
But really, you have to respect Christine's musicianship, easily the equal of the other two writers in the Rumours lineup.
If you don't believe me, listen to Why or Spare Me A Little, which predate the S and L era by some time.
Having said that, it sounds like great stuff, from the clips I have heard, so I am going to appreciate this music on its own terms, and I sure as hell WILL be at the concert here.
A fan since 1972 ( despite the 'Junior' handle)
Cristian,
As stated previously, I have great admiration for Christine and consider the vast majority of her work to have been wonderful. In my opinion, she didn't put a foot wrong until 1982. I haven't enjoyed a lot of her material since then but I still think she is capable of making a contribution to both Fleetwood Mac and music in general.
Whilst I am pleased she was not an active participant of this album, it is reassuring to hear her unmistakeable backing vocals and piano on "Steal Your Heart Away". I would have liked her to have featured on "Thrown Down" (instead of those wretched, insipid hired backing vocalists) and would dearly love her to play on "Goodbye Baby" but we have to respect her choice to bow out of the rock game at this stage of her life.
That said, I am sure there will be more than just a little sprinkling of Christine's magic throughout the album - I would be very surprised if she didn't feature on "Bleed To Love Her" and maybe one or two others.

I don't know.. I haven't heard the finished album yet, so I can't make an assessment.
But I can't imagine that I WON'T miss her, as I love her dearly. Her voice is beautiful, and her keyboards always blend in perfectly.
To be honest, I've been a little taken aback a few times from reading Lindsey's quote about as much as they miss her personally, nothing is missing musically. That kind of sounds like a slap in the face to me... and I don't think he intended it that way, but damn. It kind of shatters the whole chain-five fireflies thing.

I think I will miss her live a lot more than I will miss her input on the album....From what I've heard, LB & Stevie seem to have coped perfectly well in her absence, and the Fleetwood Mac sound is still very much there. However, if anybody other than Christine sings songs like YMLF live, it will sound lame. MHO. So basically, I hope they don't do a single Christine song (including Don't Stop, not from a vocal point but basically I'd rather just not hear it live..waste of concert time, there are many songs that have never been done live that I would prefer to hear instead of it!).

You know, I think if she was there or not...I would be pissed to hear YMLF. I love Chris' music, but I just can't get into that song all too much. It's like a boring little parasite that has attached itself to almost every FM concert for twenty five + years and it's just time for it to go.
However, I'm not completely against Christine-inclusions on thsi tour. I'd love to hear Lindsey do "Isn't it Midnight" or "Hold Me." I agree, let's put the kabosh on "Don't Stop" too. At least don't play it every night!

I will definetly miss Christine on this album and on the tour... I actually (in my head) consider this a Buckingham-Nicks album with special guests Mick Fleetwood and John McVie... hehe... But it is fleetwood mac now...

I'm wondering if The Ledge will open a new forum for the current incarnation of FM, as they are no longer the "Rumours" era lineup ... especially since Chris's visage adorns this particular forum! Might that be in the works?
