View Full Version : Without Christine...........
As much as I can't wait until 4/15 for the release of SYW, I often think about if only Chris was on board. Don't get me wrong I have been a die hard MAC fan for 26 years and love all the band line ups and have ALL the albums.........but the "Rumours" line up is back and without Chris has me thinking. Christine always has at least one of the "pop" singles. It will be intresting to see how SYW does as far as airplay without Christine. Its cool they all get along great know but just think how much more exciting it would be with Chris. As I said dont get me wrong I want a "Buckingham/Nicks" FM record , it was I Don't Want to Know that got me hitched in the first place but some of the excitement for me is missing.

I know:( Seeing that pic from the 70's in another post awhile back brought a tight moment in my heart. I truly hope she is as happy now as she has made me over the last 25 plus years:)

...for making me feel that I'm not the only one who thinks in this way. The only think that prevents me from being that excited about Say You Will coming out soon is the fact that Christine is no longer there... :(

It's nice to read these posts about Christine, she is and always will be a part of my love for Fleetwood Mac.
As much as I also love the Buckingham-Nicks focus on this current band, it is definitely not as special now that Christine is not there.
The chemistry of those five individuals really touched people in a very personal and heartfelt way with their music, and history. The Chain has been broken.
youre a sweetheart...
never will you be replaced

Well, since I am really a Christine McVie fan first and foremost, I have absolutely no excitement whatsoever for this new Buckingham/Nicks album. I've never really been interested in the Buckingham/Nicks angle of Fleetwood Mac. Since I am collecting everything that Chris is on, I will still buy the CD if any of her Gift of Screws work is on the album as Mick has said it would be. I do think though that she made the right decision about leaving the band. She is nearly 60 and everything must come to an end at some time. I just hope that she is able to get her solo album out sometime in the next year or so. That would definitely be something to get excited about.
My advice to you guys is to not buy the upcoming Mac album - what would be the point? You've already made up your minds about this recording without having heard it so why spoil the fun? Sit it out, resurrect the Christine shrine and whinge to your collective hearts' content.

I don't need such "advices", and I will not waste my time in trying to express my feelings all over again, since I think 99% of the people who read the thread understood it. So I'll just leave it here.

I'll miss Christine too, and as for the concert, I'm going to miss Songbird the most...

I just wish I would had been able to see her in concert. I am extremely excited about SYW, but I just wish I could see them all on stage together. Christine was an important part of the Fleetwood Mac experience...I am just hoping her whole "solo project" comes out soon. But I have faith in Stevie and Lindsey.:)

What Bart said!
I have to say I am incredibly relieved that Christine will no longer be involved with the Mac. I was thrilled to learn that she would not be working with the band on the upcoming album and have been doing cartwheels ever since.
I have a certain regard for Chris but let's face it, she's way past her prime. She was the weak link during "The Dance" and prevented the band from truly peaking. I am actually immensely grateful to her for bowing out when she did because she has now made possible what I have dreamed about for many years... the Stevie and Lindsey show!
Finally an album devoid of shallow pap and a concert experience potentially akin to brilliance - something that could never have happened if Christine was still present. Things are looking up... I just can't wipe the smirk off my face!

Being first and foremost a Stevie fan but also having loved "Out of the Cradle' I have to agree with Phil.Another Buckingham/Nicks album with a world class drummer and bassist in tow is a great idea!I also thought Christine's eponymous solo lp in '84 and subsequent tour were a big snooze.

We could all hear so plainly how her off-key croaking & barking & vein-popping howling really demolished songs like "You Make Loving Fun" & "Everywhere," whereas Stevie's & Lindsey's silky-smooth, exquisitely refined (like buttah!) singing just hit every note square on throughout that tour! And Christine's piano playing on "Silver Springs" & "Don't Stop" & so many others .... e-GAD!!! That one-finger plinking really ruined the show, as you so astutely noted.
Finally an album devoid of shallow pap and a concert experience potentially akin to brilliance - something that could never have happened if Christine was still present.Yes, indeed. I can't wait for more of the brilliance I experienced at the Irvine Meadows TISL show in 2001! See, I had to cut my experience short by hightailing it out about two-thirds of the way through on Nicks & Co. that night because I was just so thrilled by what I was seeing & hearing.
Things are looking up... I just can't wipe the smirk off my face! I bet! It's a hoot to troll!

If only poor Chris had been able to whip up the sort of tremulous frenzy & intense excitement that I saw Stevie generate on the 1989, 1990, 1991, 1998, 2000 & 2001 tours! Just the way she was able to plant those big boots fourteen inches apart & sway to & fro throughout the entire set without stopping! Yes, indeed ... what exciting memories. The spirit ran through me, & I was compelled to call Madame Nicks the High Priestess of Nitrous Oxide.

Right after Lindsey it was always Christine's songs I looked forward to hearing the most whenever a new album came out. This is not to diss Stevie, but it's just the way I feel. So yes Chris's contributions will be missed but I still look forward to the new Mac album very much. And besides, if she does come out with a new solo album we can all just pick our faves from it and burn them onto a Cd along with the SYW tracks and it will almost be like she never left in the first place!

I will definitely miss Christine. Her earthy, graceful presence always provided an important counterweight to B/N ' s onstage personalities and songs. There were moments on "The Dance" tour where I sensed she was really bored, but she may have bigger fish to fry. I'd be over touring too. You couldn't get me to live for 4 months on planes and in hotels for any amount of money. More power to her for opting out.

I'm gonna miss her too because I've never seen the five Fireflies in concert. :( I'm listening to Little Lies right now and it makes me miss her more. Even tho I love Lindsey and Stevie to DEATH, I love Miss Christine too and would have just LOVED to have seen/heard her on this tour. I hope her solo album comes out and also that she is happy.:D
Yeah, I'll miss her, but whaddayagannado?

You know, as long as I live, I will never understand the need by some people to bash one member of Fleetwood Mac in order to praise another.
The coolest, most interesting thing about this band, to me at least, is how wildly different each member is... from Peter Green up to Bekka Bramlett.
In my opinion, there truly is something for everyone.
Have I always been head over heels for each and every member this band has had? No, i haven't... but I'm sure not gonna go on and on about how "awful" they are.
They aren't my cup of tea, but I'm sure they're someone else's.
Not only do I accept and respect that, but I also LOVE that.
This life would be boring beyond belief if we all liked the same things, and believed in the same things, and acted the same way, etc., etc.
We're not on the schoolyard any more... we don't have to play "my toy is cooler than your toy."
It's called diversity, people.
As for Christine's absence from the new album... of course, I'll miss her. She was just as important to what makes Fleetwood Mac, Fleetwood Mac, as anyone else who's ever passed thru their ranks.
Her level-headed songs always provided the perfect balance to Lindsey & Stevie's eccentricities.
At the same time, I couldn't be more excited for this album, because it's "another link the chain" (if you'll forgive the cliché), and I'm excited to hear what Buckingham & Nicks can do, thirty years after their first album together.

i'll miss Chistine, also, but from what I've heard of the new record.. I think the Stevie Lindsey magic is still there. "Peacekeeper" gets better every time I listen to it..
the sweetness of their harmony.
when I finally get "Say You Will" in my hands.. I'll play it non stop.. constantly.. ..it's going to be the perfect cd to listen to on our walkmans as we walk in the spring air..
after the newness wears a little, I'll start playing with the CD. I'm sure I'll burn a CD with just the Stevie tracks - like a new solo Stevie record. and maybe, when Chris' record comes out - i'll add some of her new songs with some of the "Say You Will" tracks and make my own - what could have been.. FM "Rumours lineup" record. who knows.. i'm just starting to get really excited about the upcoming record and tour..

I will miss Chris a lot. I try hard not to think too much about it. However, it's going to be neat to see how Buckingham and Nicks sound together 30 years after thir original album. It's going to be interesting to see the stage too-I'm so used to Chris being there it's gonna seem mighty empty without her.

On the radio the other day they mentioned that Christine WAS on this album - is that true? Anyone know?
Just curious and found that interesting as I had never heard it.
I wonder on the tour if they will do her songs though? I kind of feel they should - I think YMLF and others are just standards for FM.
I love the whole band and will miss Christine, but I am thrilled to have new Mac stuff - any way I can get it! I think the album will be wonderful and just the other day when I heard "Peacekeeper" on the radio for the 2nd time that day (woo hoo) it really made me smile and reminded me back to 1997 when Silver Springs was all over the radio and how much I love FM and how good their music makes me feel.

I think she technically does play on the album because she was on the recording of "Steal your heart away" from the "Best buy tour '97" promo CD a few years ago and I'm assuming that this is the recording of the song that will be on SYW so they'll probably just have it listed as a "guest appearance" on her part in the liner notes of SYW and who knows, maybe some of the other keyboard parts on the other songs may date back as far as this track too but I'm not sure and I'd be surprised if there were other "old tracks" like this on the album since Sheryl Crow is reportedly playing keyboards on two tracks on the album as well. It'll be interesting to see though.
Hope this was of some help. :)
