A much maligned album...and even denounced by Stevie herself. While I'll admit I was dissapointed in it when it came out, after waiting five years for a new album. But I've warmed up to it. I'm interested in what other fans' first impressions of the album were?
I think it fits in well with her catalog, providing some contrast with her other albums. It sounds a little grittier (is that a word?) than her other work. In my fantasy world, she would have taken Street Angel out on the streets, playing small clubs with a hard rockin' stripped down band.
She'd open the show with Love Is Like A River...being introduced as "Please welcome Street Angel Stevie Nicks!" She'd walk out as the organ intro played, and the band would kick in hard, and she'd blow the club away with her "AHHHHHHH!"
Aside from the songs that she did play on that tour (Maybe Love, Docklands, Blue Denim, Destiny) she'd also play Listen To The Rain, Kick It and Street Angel. Actually, she would exclude Docklands, which she, in reality, dropped from the set early in the tour.
It's a show that obviously exists only in my fuzzy head. Gee, I need to go to bed now. Think I had too much wine!! Least I can still type! lol

Street Angel is the first Stevie album I purchased....it was cheap at a used cd place....sooo...I listened to it...and was like..."what the hell is THIS!?!" I hated it! I thought it was the cheesiest thing....then for some odd reason...a few months later I listened to it again...and it was as bad as I remembered....and then I just kept listening...and now it's quite an enjoyable album...I think I actually listen to it more than I do to Other Side of the Mirror or Wild Heart...so now I can honestly say there is not one Stevie album I do not like.

hey, thanks for responding. I think your experience with Street Angel is similar to many fans. I guess if you listen to something long enough, and give it time, you find something to value in it. This seems especially true with Stevie's music. Someone once said "If she put out an album of her snoring, I'd still buy it!" My feelings with artists are --if I like them, I generally like whatever they do. Sometimes people forget that artists are not machines, and that their work is often effected and influenced by the circumstances in their lives at any given time.
Side note: I think the Japanese version of Street Angel makes it better...with the inclusion of Inspiration and God's Garden. Plus the cd case is white and the cd itself is pink. Still, the lyric book is the same horrid, startlingly unprofessional layout by Chris Nicks. Word to Steve: Don't hire family members to do things outside of their realm of expertise. Not sure what Chris's expertise is, though.

I have always liked, but not loved, this record, esp. Destiny. I agree with her that it could have been better if not great had she been better. Moreover, I loved this concert.
As for Jane, I loved Jane and right away got the chimp reference and thought "cool" :D But, I guess if I didn't know about the song's meaning, it would have been odd. The coolest thing to me about this song is the harmony at the end, which I thought was straight from the song Bella Donna only a little lower and slower. Jane also has cool demo, which I have apparently lost. It is very much like the song, only "dreamier."
Having said that, what the hell was she thinking by putting Docklands and not God's Garden on the record. I cannot even think about listening to Docklands. I feel the same way about her saying laundromat as many do about chimp. But, many like Docklands so . . . .

I still want to get the Japanese release of Street Angel...because I love the song Inspiration....
I also agree about Stevie's later voice, I am very much partial to her "deeper" voice than to her voice in the early days.... either way...I just love her voice...but her sound now is just so much more profound to me....

I have always really liked this album....some of the lyrics are somewhat odd with chimps and such, but it remains one my most favorite albums to listen to while on the beach. I find it relaxing.

Well....
In all honesty, when I first got Street Angel I was very dissapointed with it. But, I decided to give it a chance since it was STEVIE, so I gave it a few listens, and it's really not all that bad. Granted there are a few songs I skip: Maybe Love, Unconditional Love, and Just Like A Woman, but all the other songs are decent to good. I like how on this album Stevie went back to her roots with the more country and rock sound. I think this one could have been great if Stevie had a better producer, (also if she wasn't on Klonopin :) ). But it still is my least favorite Stevie album.
By the way, why does everyone hate Docklands? I personally like it. Especially the "I beg of you" part.

Hello SeventhWonder
I too like that part of Docklands. I just cannot get over the laundomat part and the overall song. Also, it seems that Stevie allegedly has so many of her own songs in "the vault," why would she choose Docklands over one of them much less God's Garden. But, she did and again she did not ask my opinion:cool: :D

Hey there strandinthewind! I can see why you don't like the Laundromat part LOL and it is also a bit confusing as to why Stevie chose to cover someone else's song, especially when she has all those other greats songs in the Vault! I tend to think it had to do with the Klonopin :D
Hey, I take it you are a Lord of the rings fan!! Awesome! Do you frequent any LOTR boards by any chance?

Hello SeventhWonder
I have been to a few LOTR boards, but I felt "out knowledged!!!"   Do you go to them?
I have, however, been practicing speaking the black language of Mordor and plan to go to Hallowwen dressed as Legolas:laugh:

Hey!
Yeah I do go to LOTR boards, mainly thereandbackagain.net. It's really cool you should check it out! I feel "out-knowledged" too sometimes (LOL), but at thereandbackagain it's a really friendly atmosphere and no one makes you feel dumb. :) If you ever go there, my name is DioR.
Wow, the black speech is really hard to speak. You have to be so harsh when saying it. I prefer trying Elvish, but hey that's me. That's cool that you want to go as Legolas...are you going to make your own costume?

Hello SeventhWonder
I will check out that site. I will let you know my name when I get one!!!:D
For Legolas, I will probably wear my black riding boots, my black riding "tights," some sort of tunic top, and, of course the Lothlorian (sp?) cape (with a leaf of Lothlorian that does not fall lightly!!!!!). I bought a long wig, which I will have to have styled, etc. I am not doing the bow for security reasons:) , but may have a quiver of arrows.
Now, if I could just get the area around me to fall into shadow and my voice to amplify and boom when speaking the black language!!!!!!!!!
So, this post is not completely unrelated to the topic, I loved her Letterman appearance on this tour!!!!!!

I think the wild perm rocks! Anyway, I thought the Street Angel was a great album when I first bought it. I cannot understand why people didn't like it. "Blue Denim,""Street Angel," and "Love Is Like A River" are some of the best songs she ever did. If you ask me, it supplied a more rock Stevie and was really a great album. The only track that I had to listen to a couple of times to get used to was "Jane."
