Maybe I am just desparate to hear a collaboration between Stevie and Lindsey so this had me thinking....why does "Everybody Finds Out" say (lyrics, Stevie) when all of Stevie's other songs just say (Stevie)??? Could this mean that the music came from Lindsey??? I don't know but that would be cool. The official list says the same for "Running Through The Garden" We all know that this is a Stevie song.

I am also very curious about SILVER GIRL.....

SILVER Girl
and
GOLD DUST woman

Does anyone else think this is funny?? I hope Silver Girl is just as good.

Stevie wrote the lyrics to "Running Through The Garden," but the music was written by Gary Nicholson and Ray Kennedy.
(Gary Nicholson also co-wrote the music for "Battle Of The Dragon," along with John Jarvis... and Ray Kennedy co-wrote "These Strange Times" with Mick, for 'Time.')

Presumably the music to "Everybody Finds Out" was written by one of Stevie's usual collaborators (most likely Mike Campbell), since I *think* they would have pointed it out if Lindsey had written the music to it.
Would have been nice though.

GEEZ!!!! I guess we wont hear a collaboration AGAIN. I don't get it, they are supposed to be like "best friends" you would think they would write or collaborate one song.
I am happy that April 15th is getting closer.

I don't get this "music written by" crap. Isn't this Lindsey's job as a guitarist/keyboarder/producer as well as the band's?

As for "Everybody Finds Out"... it's hard to say why someone other than Lindsey wrote the music.
Usually when the music to Stevie's songs was written by someone else, it starts out as an instrumental track that someone has given her, and she writes lyrics to it.

It's quite possible she wrote her lyrics at some point during the 'TISL' tour, to music that someone (Mike Campbell? Sheryl Crow?) gave her... which would explain why the music isn't written by Lindsey (if it indeed isn't).

So what did Lindsey, John and Mick do? I mean, did they have to play according to how the music was written, or just Lindsey and John?

This is wierd.

The musicians in the band would do what all musicians do, they would play the song that was written... adding to it and elaborating upon it, with various instruments.
As a producer, Lindsey might fiddle with the tempo, or the arrangement, but it's highly unlikely that he would alter the melody, etc.... no matter who wrote it.

I think sometimes the idea of Lindsey "constructing" Stevie's songs, gets a little muddled.
He doesn't "write" the music to Stevie's songs, and I don't think he's ever completely overhauled her original melody... he simply molds the song into a finished product, by fine-tuning it in various ways.
He'll take Stevie's fairly straight-forward and simplistic chord structures, and build the instrumentation around them. He'll also decide which musical ideas from the original demo should be pursued, and which should be abandoned... like any good producer should.

(By the way, I'm in no way belittling the amount of work Lindsey does, production-wise and instrumentally... I'm just trying to clear up the idea that he basically writes the music to Stevie's songs. He follows Stevie's original idea, and enhances it so that it will have broader commercial appeal.)

Okay...I just thought that many times she would just write lyrics, and the band would just jam until they found the beat for the song. Ya know?

thanks for the info...I programmed the demos of the songs into my TDK DA-3826 system to see how they flowed, Not bad IMO...Brian J.

I am still holding on to the thought that one of these songs is really Space Needle. I mean it could be Space Needle now has added lyrics and became Silver Girl or Everybody Finds Out couldn't it  :distress:

Other than that - will April 15, 2003 EVER get here!

I think there is still a chance "Everybody Finds Out" is a collaboration ala "Crystal"..lyrics by Stevie might mean music by Lindsey...

I think it`s great that somebody else offers Stevie a song melody. Seven wonders was great imo and from time to time she should be given a different idea like then.

Well our of these 18 songs, how many do we know NOTHING ABOUT?

"What's The World Coming To"
"Destiny Rules"
"Silver Girl"
"Everybody Finds Out"

Are these the only songs on the album we haven't heard at all in any form?

"Running Through The Garden" has been around awhile in demo form...Brian J.

No, that would give full credits to the rest of the band, and Stevie is always writing the melodies for her songs (except in the cases in which she credits the writer of the melody). There's a difference between "music" and "arrangement". I believe Stevie writes the "music" (melody, etc.) to her songs, and Lindsey's role in Fleetwood Mac is to make the "arrangements".

Interesting track-listing, BTW. :)

It's unlikely, but that's how I interpreted it when I read it. It's the only reason I can think of why they would explicitly write "Stevie's lyrics" in such an otherwise plain list.

I just had a feeling all along that EFO was written by Stevie. When Mick said the songwriting duties were split equally he wasn't kidding.

This could actually be plausible...or it might even be cowritten between the two. But the reason why I think so is we were told Stevie had 8 songs and Lindsey had 10, yet I see Lindsey only has 9 on the list. Interesting...

Based on the knowledge that Stevie only wrote the lyrics to "Running Through The Garden," and the music was written by someone else, I tend to believe that the "lyrics, Stevie" notation is merely pointing out this fact... and not that Lindsey is actually singing lead.
The same goes for "Everybody Finds Out."

As for the "information" that Lindsey had 10 songs, as opposed to Stevie having 8... I believe that originated solely as an assumption by the fanbase that Lindsey had written "Everybody Finds Out."

Mick did state a few months ago that the songwriting duties were split equally between Stevie & Lindsey... although, in repeating that statement, it must be noted that Mick's info hasn't been entirely accurate. Though I think that's not really his fault, but more the fault of the record company, which seemed to endlessly vacillate between releasing a double or a single album.

At any rate, we'll know soon enough, when we all have our greedy little hands on the liner notes! :D

Marty,

I believe the tracklisting was first confirmed in an email to the fanclub members, and then later posted on the message board at Mick's official site.
But I don't have a link to that particular post at this moment.

In other news, Amazon.com is offering two versions of the release... the single disc at $18.98, and a 2-disc "limited edition" version at $27.98.
