From the latest "Ask Stevie" questions, just posted on the Nicks Fix....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question 89 - from John in Louisville:
Will you and Fleetwood Mac make any music videos for the album?
Stevie's answer:
As it is right now, we are not planning to make a video. But that could change, you never know.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Grrrrrrrr. :mad:

i think this band (as well as their managers, and/or Warner Bros) just doesn't grasp how easy it would be to please the fans.
We really only want simple things: some cool videos... a DVD or two.... and access to rare tracks that we can't get anywhere else.

Those few things... that we'd ALL be able to appreciate (not just those who can afford a fanclub membership)... and they'd have us singing their praises.

*sighs*

This is totally beyond me... there they go selling and promoting 1,000 things on their "TOTALLY OFFICIAL AND TOP INSIDER" sites and then there's not even a video!?!? How stupid is that!? :mad:

Well, maybe we can soon join the brand new "FM Fans Financing The New Video" project - only 1,000 $ for your membership and top-secret access to empty film cans signed by their very own cleaning woman. :rolleyes:

They're leaving out such an important marketing tool. :distress:

A little P.S.: I'm usually an optimistic person but I hope we won't read "As it is right now, we are not planning to make a world tour. But that could change, you never know....." next. :(

That shows how little confidence they have in the success of their album or the singles.

kinda sucky...Why dont they do what the fans want & demand? A video would be greeted (I think) very warmly by the public, Brian J.

How appalling!!!!!
A few music videos was something I was very much looking forward to

I highly doubt there will be any commercial singles now, either then :(

Oh. My. God.

This better not be true.

I'm so disappointed I could cry.

Maybe (grasping at straws, here) she means they aren't going to do a concept video. Surely they are going to record and release concert footage.

I'd be happy with live performance videos cut with candid behind the scenes shots. That'd be better than nothing.

Whose bright idea was that not to make a video? It's not like it's some NEW concept or anything.

Sheesh..........

Maybe Stevie was just having a transient memory lapse as a complication of too much past abuse to the brain. Wake up, Stevie!

I guess I am just stunned that they wouldn't make a video.
Whoever it is who really answers those "ask Stevie" questions just better be ill-informed.

What kind of asinine decision is that - to not make a video? Are there any commercial songs out there without a video?!?!

I think the band looks great. I'm 100% confident in their talents. But whoever is the brains behind both the band and Stevie's solo work (as far as publicity and pleasing fans) is a moron!

Surely the money spent on a video pays itself back???

This seems to be bordering less on "bad for the fans" and more on "dumb".

It's only a matter of time before the Ledgies kidnap Fleetwood Mac and take over their management! (Just don't let Christy or Skylark get hold of Lindsey! :lol: )

Management! This band has, what, multiple managers - what do these people do exactly? Very little, it would seem. :distress:

Yeah, more like "bad for business". What are they thinking? The best promotion I saw for TISL was on VH1 when the videos for Everyday and Sorcerer came out. They didn't play the videos a whole lot, but they definitely got Stevie's name out there again.

Sheesh. Who's doing the marketing? Monkeys?

Well, Springsteen's "The Rising" never had a video for it's first single. "Lonesome Day" did though as a second.

Although I am still dissapointed that there won't be a vid for "Peacekeeper".

HEY!! :mad: I RESEMBLE that remark! ;):laugh:

I agree, WHAT MORON is telling them not to make videos?!!??! SHOOT HIM!!! The Sorcerer and Everyday videos WERE played on VH-1 (albeit, not MUCH, but I DID see them!!) and they had Stevie as the ARTIST OF THE MONTH....FM should be the ARTIST OF THE MONTH in either April or May!! GAH! STOOPID decision...

I do agree with you, DOR, the DIE-HARD fans should kidnap FM and RUN their management!!!! It would be FUN and people would know that STEVIE is a WOMAN and LINDSEY is a MAN!! :rolleyes: Also, that LINDSEY is not spelled LINDSAY!!! AND, their music is NOT IRRELEVANT!!!!! AAAHH!!!!!!

Nah, I'm not mad or anything. :laugh:

No video=No promotion....Duh...who is running their marketing?? While it is safe to assume that FM has a large fan base already that will buy the album,would it kill them to try to advertise to a newer audience? Even Stevie had 2 videos...

I really don't understand this move. I can see not doing things simply because you don't want to do them -- such as not doing a hit such as Sara live because you don't want to, but my God, you HAVE to have music videos to sell a decent amount of albums. VH1 does a great job with promotion (one of the only things they do well) and they won't be promoting the album if there's no videos for it. They don't even have to do much, Hell, just stand there and sing for all I care. Just MAKE A VIDEO to get your album on television.

This could really be interpreted in two other ways besides "we don't want to make videos." One was mentioned...they just aren't confident in the singles or album, which I doubt. The second is that they are being a little cocky in a Pearl Jam kind of way. Pearl Jam doesn't make videos anymore because they are happy with their cult following (excuse the expression) and feel that this following will buy whatever they release. FM could be doing the same thing, feeling that they have enough fans to just buy the album straight out. I don't know, I just know I was very disappointed to hear this news.

i think you forgot the 3rd (and most obvious) possibility, which is that warners don't believe enough in this album, and are not about to shower this project with their money.

But barring any live performances of "Peacekeeper" on MTV or VH1, the network will have nothing to play... and an extremely important part of the album's promotional muscle will be lost.

The media blitz for 'The Dance,' was really spearheaded by the massive airplay the concert initially received on MTV, and then later on VH1. Not to mention the frequent airings of "Silver Springs," "The Chain," and "Landslide."

And gosh, look at all the people on these boards, who became fans after SEEING the band on MTV or VH1.

The optimist in me is hoping that they have *some* plan to get exposure on VH1... perhaps they filmed one of their rehearsal concerts? Or maybe they'll allow VH1 to air the first few songs from opening night of the tour? Or maybe the "making of" that they filmed will be broadcast?

Still, I'm confounded (and disappointed) by the decision to not film a concept video.

You should all remember that the economics of the music business are that the ARTIST PAYS FOR THE FREAKING VIDEOS.
So why should the five of them shell out a lot of money for what may or may not help sales. Anyone who is going to buy the alum knows that FM exists. That doesn't mean that they would buy the album, but FM doesn't exactly need the name rec, especially when every third song on the classsic rock stations is from Ruymours ( okok, it only seems that way).

Would you people get over it. It's not like she said it wasn't going to happen. It will. When she was asked the question, they didn't have plans.

Well, we can again sum this up with The Dance. As I said in my other thread, radio didn't sell 5 million copies of The Dance...television did. I'm not saying the band will sell 5 million copies of the album if they release a video, but what could it hurt? A basic video does not cost that much money. Plus, let's just throw sales aside...don't they want their NEW music exposed to different people. Are they really that reliant on the bigger fans? I guess it may be true to say there's no guarantee that a video will help sales, but it's too much of a risk to challenge. This is just too bad...I really hope they change their mind.

I am also very disappointed (pissed) ~ but it is a comfort to notice how this has affected all of you - it's cool to see that I'm not the only one who just *lives* for the videos, images, etc. (I am filled with excitement for the new music as well; don't get me wrong).

I am really hoping that Steve's remark (up above) is right, and that maybe Stevie was asked this question WEEKS ago, and since then, they have decided to GET UP and do it.

It seems absolutely odd that they wouldn't; they know that the fans love this stuff, and they HAVE TO have the desire to bring in new ones as well... if they are concerned about "looking old" or something, then they *must not* have faith in their music - otherwise, they would get a director and work up some concepts for "Peacekeeper: the Video"....

Time will tell, I guess --- maybe this is a big joke to get us going, in order to win some of the 'naysayers' back when they release the video...?! Who knows what all of the insiders involved in this are thinking...

maybe they plan on using some footage from this documentary thing, it might be an option....
there MUST be some kind of video for a radio release... i don't know wether not releasing a video is bold, vain, or simply an idiotic decision. one way or the other, it's a destructive decision.
don't forget that that the "world tour" is still speculative, which means that other than the US (and maybe canada) there will be NO promotion other than radio.
i'm not even talking about all sorts of music channels, there are hundreds of televised entertainment magazines out there, if they have no promo footage- it means that this item is a dead one.

Maybe "The Knight" has told Stevie, "I'll DEFINITELY let you know in the next 24-48 hours whether or not you're doing a video." And 2 weeks later, she STILL doesn't know what's going on.:D

LMAO! I almost fell off my chair!

Anyway, seriously, if they don't feel like coming up with some concept video that they think might be corny, at least go for the "live performance" thing. I just saw Bruce and the E Street Band's, I've seen the video for the new song by 3 Door's Down, it's a performance for troops......they could do the same thing, at least take a performance and use that!
