View Full Version : "Tango" material on the new tour?

Ok, here's another thought. Wouldn't it be nice if FM decided to actually reporduce some of that great "Tango In The Night" material on the next tour? After all, we never really got much of Lindsey's live interpretations of some of that stuff at the time. The most we got was how he re-interpreted "Everywhere" on "the Dance Tour" - which was brilliant. I'd love to hear him FM do a "full-on" version of "Big Love", as well as "Caroline" and the title track. "Family Man" and "Seven Wonders" (again, LINDSEY's interpretation) would be good too. All of this could be done rather easily, what with technology being what it is today.
Just curious as to what everyone thinks about this

YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I like the way you think!! LOL I totally would LOVE to hear Lindsey doing Tango and Big Love (yeah, it would be cool to hear this non-acoustically for once!!)! I would have LOVED to have heard Little Lies too, but alas...:distress:
Tango is tied with Rumours and Tusk as my fave FM album, so them doing ANY of the songs (except WISYA!!!!!) would rock my world!!
I am UBER-EXCITED about this tour, even with all the Meet & Greet crap, and I hope to GOD that I get close seats and get a camera in there so I can have photos of my hero and I can share them with all ya'll!!!!

interesting idea IMO. I would like to see "Tango In The Night", "Seven Wonders" & "Caroline" done live on stage...I just dont want to see a show that is TOO structured or predictable. I'm all in favor of hearing more songs from "Tango..." & "Tusk" performed...Brian J.

Don't get me wrong - I loved the Dance tour and finally having the chance to see Lindsey with the band (I was too young in the 80s). But it was WAY TOO PREDICTIBLE. They need to bust out a little bit and get away from what I like to call "formula touring", where they do the same setlist every night. That, frankly, is boring, especially with the internet and being able to see what set lists they've been doing all throughout the tour up to the time of the show that you see. I just think the fans deserve a more personalized show - something that says to the fans "hey, we're not doing a stock show for you - we're truly going to make this a special occasion just for you"
of course, I also talked about this in another thread I started about doing more obscure stuff on this tour, which ties in with this thread - check it out:).

I know I was VERY disappointed when I saw Paul McCartney last October and his set was scripted...So much to the point he told the same joke every night about "massages". He didnt sway too much from that set for the whole tour...
Now the The Rolling Stones was a different story all together...Their set changed for each show and wasnt predictable to say the least. I would like to see FM try a set like the Stones were/are doing; Each night there is part in their set where they highlight lesser played songs from 1 specific album (In OKC it was "Exile On Main Street"). It would definitely make for a less predictable show...And they have enough material from the "Buckingham/Nicks" era of FM to do this...Brian J.

That would be so cool if FM did that... the only problem is then it would be even more expensive for me, because I would have to go to 3-4 concerts to hear the highlights from my fave albums!

And that is my biggest gripe about The Dance tour. Lindsey gave the same speech every night about "cycles', "inner demons" and "isn't that weird". And it was the same set of songs every night.
This band has <i>such</i> a rich history and catalog to choose from, I don't understand why they don't take more chances with the setlist. (And really, how <i>"risky"</i> is it to tamper with a few songs every night? I hate to chalk it up to laziness, but I'm afraid that's what it is.)
They could pull out solo hits, obscure White Album-Tusk-Mirage-Tango hits, classic FM (Hypnotized, Green Manalishi), or Buckingham Nicks stuff on this next tour. They could do different songs every night for a month.
At this point in their career - and let's face it, this is the twilight of Fleetwood Mac as a touring band - why not go for it and <i> play</i> Storms, Long Distance Winner, Tango In The Night and Book Of Love. They should also shower us with each of the new songs from Say You Will over the course of the tour at least once. I would rather hear them attempt to bring Beautiful Child to life on stage - successful or not - than hear yet another half-hearted version of Rhiannon.
I say they use this tour to go out with a bang and leave us breathless.

That's really well articulated Mike, and god knows I'd like the same, but in the end I think the majority of the audience is going to be a regular FM fan (ie "Rumours"/"GH" only) and hearing the eclectic album tracks is arguably not what they paid for.
Too bad for us:( There should be FAN CONCERTS!!!

And herein lies the problem. If Fleetwood Mac changes its set each night or every so often, WE, the few, may LOVE it, but the masses might get upset because "they played Rhiannon there but not here," or "they did I'm So Afraid there and not here," or "what the Hell was that song they played and said it was an old song? I don't even know it." I'm basically getting to see one show, so I would want to get to hear what everyone else hears. Yes, I want different songs WITHIN the set list, but to change it night by night wouldn't be in MY best interest, nor a lot of other people's who are seeing one concert.
I DO feel they may possibly alter the set list a little for each leg of the tour, if they end up doing more than one.

What I meant in my first post is that FM should just add more songs from specific albums that they rarely play each night, Not drop songs that are EXPECTED to be played (ie-Rhiannon, The Chain, GYOW), It could lead a few new fans to checking out more of their music...And they should play songs from the "Buckingham/Nicks" era of FM albums since MOST people wouldnt have a clue to their "Bluesy" original material.
I enjoyed the Rolling Stones show more than any I have seen in years mainly because they went for unpredicability and that was GREAT!!! There was something real to their show as opposed to McCartney's show which seemed almost lifeless because it was too scripted (People were disappointed since he could've played the song "Press" which mentions Oklahoma, But alas he didnt)...Brian J.

I think I understand what you mean. But I still wouldn't mind if they mixed up the other songs a bit. Back to the Rolling Stones again for an example... I watched that HBO special they had a few weeks ago and compared the set list to the set when I saw them in 1998. Out of the 20-some songs, only about 8 of them were the same. Those 8 were the ones you'd expect, like Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Women, etc. (I wonder if they've been able to do a concert without Satisfaction since the 60s? I certainly wouldn't mind if they took it out). Anyway, both concerts kicked a$$, IMO. Except, of course, it's much better when you're there. I think FM could get away with mixing up the set list a bit, as long as they kept the "big ones" in the set. The casual FM listener might not even know the whole set anyway, no matter which ones they picked.

My thoughts about the last FM tour have definitely been echoed here. Let's get away from the scripted crap on stage and be more spontaneous. I realize the band has to practice a lot of these songs ahead of time, but these things that we're suggesting CAN be done fairly easily.
Let's just assume that they did all the hits (or at least, as many as they could without Christine). Would it honestly kill them to add an extra half hour to the set and give us die hard fans some of the album tracks we crave?

Without Christine they will really have more flexibility in the set. From Lindsey, the "must-do" are: Go Your Own Way, Big Love, [probably I'm So Afraid]
From Stevie: Rhiannon, Landslide, Dreams, Silver Springs, Gypsy, God Dust Woman..
That makes 9 sings...add some new tracks [how many? 5-6 at most?] that still leave a bit of room for some creative choices...

Yeah Lindsey should really do "Family Man" with the band, including "You And I Part II" or even "Down Endless Street"!!
From "Mirage" he should do all of his songs except "Oh Diane."

He should do Family Man and not "Oh Diane"?!
Now, "Oh Diane," that's a much-maligned song that is not as bad as some people make it out to be! I think it's fun in a 50s pop way. And next to "Family Man" its lyrics are genius. In fact, I quite like the lyrics "Love is like a grain of sand, slowly slipping through your hand."
I really don't understand the hostility towards this nice, pleasant tune.

...But I'd love to hear Lindsey sing TITN live.
I like it when he screams and sings "pretty" too.

The Stones did alter the setlist a bit on this tour but toward the end it too got rather predictable. They changed the order a few times, but for the most part, they stuck to a lot of the same songs. Just as I would like to see the Mac throw in some rarely-played tunes like most things off Tusk and Tango, and the pre-BN stuff...it would have been nice to see the Stones throw in "Under My Thumb," "Paint it, Black," "Waiting on a Friend," or "Starf'cker."

So what the heck's wrong with Oh Diane? I thought it was camp and a great little tune. I'd love to see him play it.

For me, the highlights of the TITN album are very much LB's songs, so those are the ones I'd love to see being done live, and I totally agree that it's time for Big Love to go back to its original '87 form.

I'd like to see Lindsey do Big Love with the full band, Family Man, and Isn't it Midnight. TITN would be good, but it may be redundant if they keep ISA in the set.

I like "Diane" but I have heard it very often and this is one of the tunes you can get enough of after a while. Also I think there a certain songs that work better in the studio than live and I think this is one of those. Doubt also that the 50`s sounding with this smooth voice (of 82) nowadays could be transported on the stage.

I would love for Stevie to sing Seven Wonders as I love that song. Maybe she will as she has more room to fit in more songs with Christine's absence. Also, LB seemingly tends to like to mix it up with alternative mixes, etc. (See AHI Gypsy and The Dance tour's Big Love, Go Insane, and Say You Love Me (certainly he must have suggested of all things the banjo:D ) So, maybe and hopefully we will get some different songs!!!!!! The only thing I can think of that bodes unwell for this is SN apparently was not willing to take all of Waddy's advice to mix it up on the recent TISL tour and open with Bella Donna or Talk to Me. But, she did mix it up some. I am on needles and pins for this tour as it has so much promise right now!!!!

If I recall, the Stones didn't ADD "Satisfaction" (at least in regular rotation) to the set until 1980 or '81. They didn't play it when I saw them in 1976 or 78. And, none of the set lists I've seen from the 1969 or 1972 tours included it. But, it seems it has either been either the set closer (or close to it) or an encore tune since the '80's.

That is true from the concerts I have of the Stones from '72-'78...It ("Satisfaction") wasnt added back to the set until the 1981 tour...Brian J.

Great thread y'all! Tango in the Night and Seven Wonders are the two songs that I wish they will play most from TITN. It would also be awesome to hear Caroline and Welcome to the Room....Sara but I highly doubt they will play that song. Other than that, I'm really hoping for some Tusk songs.

On the Bridges to Babylon tour in 97-98 they opened the show with Satisfaction. For the other tours though since Tattoo You they have usually stuck it in towards the end or at the very end.
