View Full Version : "Sara" live from St.Louis 1979
This is similar to the post about "Seven Wonders" and the word in question between the chorus and verses....
Anyway...this is regarding "Sara" on the FM Documentary and Live Concert or bootleg soundboard if you have it....
before "drowning.....in the sea of love" it sounds like Stevie is a bit off from the mike and it sounds like she's saying "sara..."
i'm sure that's what it is but....anyone's thoughts?

i'm sure that's what it is but....anyone's thoughts? Dunno, Joe. I want to know why the vocal performance of "Sara" on the documentary is so completely different from the vocal performance of it on the 1980 live album.
I know there were two nights in St. Louis, but Stevie's voice wouldn't have sounded that different from one night to the next. So what's up with the strange, unidentifiable vocal on "Sara" on the live album? Was it recorded in post-production at some point the following winter, before the album was released? I've always liked it, but it sounds as if she had a little bronchitis or something. She sounds congested---getting over a head cold.
David....that's so funny....i thought the same thing about 20 years ago or so when i first started collecting FM stuff....i knew that the "live album" version was the St.Louis version but why was the vocal so different? They recorded the version at St.Louis (the filmed performance) and then when they were going to release it on the "Live" album they obviously weren't happy with the vocal and Stevie redid it....so, yes, it was postproduction vocals....also, notice how they added background vocals too. In certain parts of the song you can faintly hear parts of the original vocal. That album (Live, 1980) is chockful of post production tweaks.
