View Full Version : Fleetwood Mac Fan Club

From Mick;s Board
The Official Fleetwood Mac Fan Club will debut today! Thanks for giving us so much feedback. We've reviewed your suggestions and followed the majority of comments. You said you wanted less "merch", higher artist content and lower costs to join. Mick will debut his own fan club later in the season (3D room, CD and all) but for right now we've ganged the group together to give you the Official Fleetwood Mac Fan Club with the WHOLE BAND! To further support those of you "super fans" and those of you visiting Mick's site and Stevie's site, we've made an introductory price of $59.95 for a limited time before going to the regular price of $79.95 soon after tickets go on general sale.
Members will gain access to a Virtual Video Tour of the Studio where "Say You Will" was recorded, special ongoing video and audio from Fleetwood Mac's Artists in a "behind the scenes" style from today right through the tour and ADVANCE ticket purchase (up to 4 tickets PER VENUE) in both the general seating and special Members-Only reserved seats! These seats are not available in every venue but will be available for most concerts and include great seats! You'll buy tickets directly through Ticketmaster in advance of the general public "go-up" dates! FINALLY - A CHANCE FOR THE FANS TO GET IN EARLY AT REGULAR TICKETMASTER PRICES!
We'll provide more details in the coming days in The Knightly News. For now - keep checking www.FleetwoodMac.com during the coming hours for more details!

SAME PRICE FOR INTERNATIONAL! When so many of you said you didn't want merchandise (shirts, cards, keychains) we cut that and hence have no shipping so the price is equal worldwide! I'm sure we'll add "Fan Club Merch" in the future but those who want to get it will have a choice this way while keeping the price down!
Wherever Fleetwood Mac goes on the tour the Fan Club Members will be offered some sort of preferred and hopefully advanced seating options. As we expand the tour dates, cities and locations we'll keep everyone posted.
However - EVEN IF YOU DON'T CHOOSE TO GO TO A CONCERT - (What? - have you lost your mind?) as a Fan Club member, you'll FEEL like you went to a concert. We'll have backstage interviews, specials, video, audio and exclusive photos from all the band members added over time. While the general site will have some of this too, the Fan Club members will get more of it and it should go "deeper". Finally - After a tour is over, Members will still have unique contact with the band members they love!
Good Questions Pip!
The Knight
Good work Pip!
This actually sounds somewhat interesting. But I won't make a move till I can ascertain whether Australia is getting Mac-attacked or not:(

Who is "Ray Lindsey" as mentioned in the blurb following the preview tour of the recording house at fleetwoodmac.com? Is he the engineer that sat next to Lindsey at the mixing board during the VBOFM clip? I had assumed that was Richard Dashut.

Ray Lindsey is Lindsey Buckingham's guitar technician, has been for many years. He is also responsible for backing up Lindsey on stage sometimes, an example is The Mirage concert video during Go Your Own Way.

I received the same email this morning, I did however, find the following very interesting:
"...through the tour and ADVANCE ticket purchase (up to 4 tickets PER VENUE) in both the general seating and special Members-Only reserved seats! _
These seats are not available in every venue but will be available for most concerts and include great seats! You'll buy tickets directly through Ticketmaster in advance of the general public "go-up" dates! FINALLY - A CHANCE FOR THE FANS TO GET IN EARLY AT REGULAR TICKETMASTER PRICES!"
I will go on record to say OKC will NOT be participating in this...For 2 reasons:
#1-Ticketmaster does not service OKC concerts.
#2-The Ford Center (In a contract with Tickets.com) has a policy that does not allow for any individual person/group to buy up more than a certain amount of tickets for any performance, (If memory serves me right the most tickets 1 person can purchase is 4 tickets...), mainly to allow any ticket buying person an equal chance at great seats instead of allowing brokers/scalpers/etc to have the first chance at buying up blocks of tickets for profit.
I will buy my tickets, Now knowing (Very definitely) that I can still have a great seat without having to spend an extra amount for the fan club to just have a chance at a great seat for the show...Brian J.
ps-I just hope ya Brits & Canadians get the chance to see 'em in the UK & Canada respectively...Surely they are not that ignorant to bypass y'all just in favor of the U.S.

I still think $59.95 is a rip-off for what you get. And $79.95, well that's just highway robbery. For a better chance at good seats, which is basically what this thing is all about, anything more than 40 bucks is ridiculous, IMO. There is NO WAY I'm joining this thing.
Does this mean the general public will have lesser odds of getting good seats, because the fan club is getting them? :distress:
Notice in the email, it just says there's a $20 discount, it doesn't say what the actual price is, so you're forced to go to the site and find out.
Ugh.
On a lighter note, I love that audio clip from Lindsey you can listen to when you click on "listen" on the FM site (I hadn't been there in a while). He's talking about his singing style and how he has a "pretty voice" but the way he'd respond to Stevie helped bring out his "edge." How cute!

I want to enroll in the Super Deluxe membership tier for $5,000. For those people, Mick will arrive, unannounced, at your home one afternoon & mow your lawn. You are allowed to keep the bag of trimmings & are expected to provide Mick with a gratuity. It's not a bad deal!
Does this mean the general public will have lesser odds of getting good seats, because the fan club is getting them? The fan club says it's for generally the best 20 percent of seats. Of course, in an arena that seats 20,000 for concerts, that consists of 4,000 seats --- not exactly hanging on the stage for "Edge of Seventeen," is it?

I'd just like to say if the ticket prices are anything like what was being discussed over on Mick's board I won't be going. They were talking in terms of $300.00 per head..

(*gasp* *choke*) What???
Whoa. I definitely can't afford to go then. Does this mean like the $100 tickets will be crappy seats, or nonexistent, or what? Geez. $100 is really my spending limit for a ticket, and I was hoping to get a good seat. I am so naïve. I guess you can tell I don't go to concerts very often :distress:

That's about the figure amount I heard not all that long ago...I just hope that $300 figure is the maximum amount though, Because if it would be the minimum amount for a ticket I will have to pass on that one...($300 would even be higher the Paul McCartney concert highest priced ticket which was $250!!!)

Alright well as much as i want to get into the cool part of the website...$59.95 is too much...but..i have an idea...and some of you might want to try this too...go in on it with a fellow Mac fan and split the cost..$30 isn't too hard to swallow i guess..and it cheaper for everyone and everyone gets access :)

Sarah, you may be on to something here. That is a very good idea. 30 bucks isn't that hard to swallow...the hard thing to swallow may be knowing the money is going to that greedy site....BUT I could take some comfort in knowing it was making more fans happy, and fewer people were getting ripped off. I guess I need to do a little research to see if I could do this and still live with myself.

The video content sounds interesting, and is something I'd really love to see... but the advance ticket purchasing, and "member's only" seating, means nothing to me since I don't go to concerts, because of my anxiety/panic disorder.
So I can't justify spending 60 dollars on this, just for the video content.
But it sounds like it could be a somewhat decent deal for people who're able to take full advantage of what they're offering.

I'm pretty much ready to join (with the help of my Mom, who loves FM and is willing to pitch $30 in), but my only reservation is that I seem to remember them saying that the VBOFM "Vaults" would have exclusive material and that never panned out. I'm concerned that the same will happen with this fan club and I don't even get a keychain to show for money! I think I'll wait and think about it some more.

David, exactly which lawn will Mick be mowing? I may be interested in this Super Deluxe membership after all.

I think I'll go for the Super Deluxe Extra membership with optional benefits.
As well as mowing your lawn, Mick will also allow you to take him for dinner in an exclusive restaurant of his choosing where you you will be given the exclusive offer of paying for the meal, fantastic! Also, and this is the best part, you get exclusive backstage access at a gig where you get to wait for Mick's limo to show up then you get the chance to wash it while he is on stage!!!!! Incredible or what?
All this for just $25,000!!!! Each!!! And guess what? they do a joint couples membership for $35,000!!! Yes a saving of $15,000 !!!!
This just seems too good to be true!

It seems the words "sold out" don't just apply to the tickets

There wont be any food left to smear because good ol' Mick will donate the leftovers to charity. So the receipt will be either "Priceless" or "Worthless"...lol...Brian J.

I hate to say it, but I've actually been considering this.
I still think $60 is too much, but it certainly beats $90. Basically, the only reason I'm interested is for the advance ticket option. But I wish we could know ahead of time (read: before the price goes up to $80) at which shows it will be available. I figure if there is a possibility of getting good seats, face value (which will be astronomical itself) + $60 isn't *too* bad. Of course, I can always try and go for good seats the day they go on sale and just pay the absurd price, but I have my doubts about that.

I'm hoping ledgies who join share whether it's worth their while or not. I guess we won't really know till it's concert season (getting excited just thinking about that :woohoo:!) and we find out how good these seats are. But if anyone joins and finds it totally worth it or totally lame, I (and I'm sure many others) would be curious. I might actually consider this idea of splitting a membership. I admit I want to see the video stuff and I'd love to get a nice seat at a concert (if I can ever afford to go to one  ) but I'm bitter about Mick's site being so blatantly greedy, and I'm totally struggling to pay my dsl bill:shrug: so at this point I'm just very curious to hear some testimony.:D

Well....
IF they decide to start taking Discover, and IF they are still offering the discounted price by the time tickets prices are listed, and IF the ticket prices aren't completely ridiculous.... and IF they haven't done anything ELSE to p*ss me off (lol) then I will probably join.
If tickets are what some ppl are saying they are going to be ($250-300?) then I will probably only be going to one show, instead of three or four like I had planned.
This splitting the cost thing doesn't sound too bad... It definitely makes me feel better knowing I wouldn't be putting as *much* money into Mick's greedy hands, lol.
I'm curious to see the video clips, but the main draw for me is the advanced ticket sales. Not so much the preferred seats, but just being able to get the jump on regular seats. I definitely want decent ones, and I had already decided that I wasn't going thru a broker or Ebay or whatever again. But if I'm able to get preferred then I'd be willing to split sixty bucks with someone to do that. Unless, like I said, LOL...they do something ELSE to piss me off. Then I just won't go at all, and save myself a lot of money and trouble in the process.

I can only imagine what Stevie and Lindsey will make of all Mick's grubby money-making schemes but I am certain Christine wouldn't approve. I realise I've been critical of this lady in previous posts but I have never questioned her integrity or motivations when it comes to music. I'm sure she's relieved to be well rid of Mick's embarrassingly desperate actions. Shameful in the extreme!

Well after a talk with my hubby there is no way I can afford to join right now. He has pointed out, quite rightly, that for us in the UK there is now guarantee they will even come here let alone whether the ticket deal will apply to us if they do. It is alot to pay to see some online video footage. I am sorry I will miss that especially the Stevie stuff :(

Im with you on this one Pip.
There is no guarantee they will be comming to the UK, which is kinda depressing. Why not confirm that it really is a world tour by offering some other cities outside the states?! Or is it another of those american 'were so great' things where _world tour_ really means american tour. Before I get a load of american chat back about this...two words...'world series'
Anyway, back to the issue. I would sign up in an instant for membership if it was a certainty that they were doing shows here n we could get advanced _good_ tickets with our membership. But right now no one is talking anything but american shows/tickets...or am I missing something?
Oh, n before I forget...I owe someone a video from like last year...totally forgotten who this was, can they email me so I can finally repay my debt!??

Check your baseball knowledge before you slam the US. "Before I get a load of [foreign] chat back about this"...two teams for you: Montreal Expos and Toronto Blue Jays. That's what makes it a "world series." Hey, Canada might not be that far away, but it's not the US.

I disagree, teams from a whole TWO countries does not make a world series or a world championship. I have nothing but respect for the very fine teams and players involved but the "World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers" Really? Let's see, hmm, So how many European, African, Asian, Antipodean, South American teams have they beaten to become champions? I don't see too many.
Yes I know most of those continents do not play football or gridiron if you like but doesn't that make it even less of a world championship? They are the NFL champions because that is what it is, a national football league. It's the same with the indycar world series as well
The nearest thing to a world series, outside of tennis and golf, which are truly world series, is F1 racing and even they acknowledge it is yet to be a true world championship because they have yet to add African and Arabic events, which they are working on.
You may have players and in some instances teams from around the world but until a sport covers every continent at professional level in the same series it is not a world championship.

I wonder if "he" has been talking to Sir Paul McCartney, a man that canned his European and UK tours in favour of a second US leg because it was more profitable than visiting his European fans. He knew he could charge a lot more in the States and still play to big sold out venues rather than risking playing to smaller venues in Europe for less money. Fine if you are a young band looking to make some quick $$$ before the public "goes off" you or an old timer playing for your pension but how much money does the guy need?
I'm more concerned with Stevie's vocal health. I don't want to start up another debate on her voice but I am concerned that 40 dates in the States may just about be enough for it to handle. I think if they really want to make it a world tour then they should take 6-8 months off after the US leg to recover then hit the road in Europe, Australia and whereever else. Maybe add a few more US dates at the end of the 2nd leg.

Wow!
I really expected to get slated for my comment. Good to see people can still see things objectively :) I sure enjoyed reading your comments on the subject.
It does bug me how everything seems to be american orientated. Prolly, as many have said, due to money. Even for the mac that have more or less been a 50/50 split of UK/USA down the years. I was bugged that Stevie's world tour was limited to that side of the atlantic only (altho a new FM album in the pipeline was a good compromise).
Its a real shame that it has to come down to money n we cant all get to appreciate the music live as i'm sure they wanted the public to do back in the beginning.
Anyway, heres hoping Stevie's voice is good for years to come and the Mac bandwagon roles into all countries where they will be appreciated.

Bless your heart, SteUK...It Was I you promised the video many months ago :D. Thanks so much for remembering. I almost forgot! I'll email you my info.
Indeed, here on the ledge we have civilized, articulate, constructive, mature ways of expressing our disagreements...and nobody's posts or entire threads get routinely DELETED and censored by other people (at least not that I've ever noticed) and people aren't considered offensive just for having a different opinion, or god forbid offering anything but praise for our favorite band's members!
BTW I totally agree that any event that only involves the US, or the whole American continent for that matter, should not have "world" in the title. How arrogant and ridiculous that must appear to folks in other countries!
I'd hate to think Paul McCartney is greedy :distress: for touring so much in the US... Doesn't he give a huge chunk of his riches to charities? It's certainly a shame if he let down his European fans...Then again I hear taxes in the UK are pretty nasty ;)

Unfortunately, the events of September 11th altered all of that, as the world climate seemed to turn on a dime that day.
I imagine that threats of terrorism and possibilities of war, might also affect whether or not Fleetwood Mac tours beyond the states.
Kelly Osbourne recently cancelled overseas appearances, and her and her family are from the UK originally... so unfortunately the political climate seems to be affecting a *lot* of people's plans.
Here's to hoping that things become more stable again, and that the overseas fans get a chance to see The Mac on this tour. :)

Oh yes indeedy!
The UK is one of the most taxed countries in the world. Everything is taxed pretty much, I think the tax on gasoline is about 80% or something ridiculous like that! Plus car tax, can't remember, it's around £140 a year. Income tax usually rides around 10% Same for National Insurance (health service etc) and of course the good old 17.5% value added tax on goods. The best one is Customs. If you import anything over £18 in value they charge you the 17.5% VAT on the goods then Customs duty and then they slap 3.5% import duty on the lot, yes they tax the tax! Still, could be worse, could be living in the tax nightmare of Germany!

Sorry but I don't agree with you on this. Yes...I think Stevie wanted to tour overseas but I think her record company had other ideas. There was absolutely no promotion over here for TISL. At least when TOSOTM tour was heading this way there was a flurry of promotion.

Well after quite a few days of pondering the thoughts, should I join, shouldn't I join, do I think this will pan out for me, do I have the $$$ to spend, etc and I decided that I will try it out for the year. I know its not cheap and I understand why a lot of people cant really spend it. So I hope I made the best decision. I really hope I am going into this with my eyes clear and not blinded by all the news. I even spent time over on Mick's site reading everyone's thoughts in hopes that I would realize the decision I wanted to make. Anyway, so far I like the virtual stuff. I am using a dial up connection at the moment. Ive noticed that if I let the thing play once, it will stop a lot to buff or whatever it does but when its done, I can press play again and it will play the whole clip without stopping. I know it would work fine the 1st time with a higher connection speed but what can ya do. I know this is way new for all the fans because this is the 1st time the band has become this interactive with us. I like that a lot. I hope everyone gets to go to see a show this tour, I am looking forward to it very much...

Like Wldhrt351, I'm seriously considering getting it for the year, because this is the YEAR OF THE MAC, right? LOL I wouldn't think that next year, they'd have much going on, after the album/tour/hype dies down, 2004 will probably not have much going on...so, why not, I have a job, yes, it is WAY expensive, but that's why I work, to spend money on crap I don't need...like this fan club. LMAO!! Anywho...you only live once, so, I'm gonna be a jerk and buy in. Laugh if you must...LOL I am NOT however, paying 1100 bucks to MAYBE (but highly unlikely) meet Lindsey at the M&G. How about cutting out the hotel/ride and just give me tickets to the concert and backstage passes!??? How about THAT? I live 45 minutes away from Dallas, I don't NEED a hotel room!! After the concert, I'm coming back home!!
EDIT: Okay, I've plunged into the river below, head first and I'm hoping for the best!! LOL I have surfed the site, watched all the videos, read stuff, submitted a question to see if Lindsey answers it and OMG, Lindsey said in his lil video part that the next year or two should be great for the fans and maybe they'll come back for another round!!! I take that to mean, if this tour is successful, they may do another album....PLEASE GOD!!! His exact words are:
"It's gonna be a great year for us and alot of that was achieved by finding an environment like this. Everything that we can put out for people to enjoy in the next year or two and hopefully we 'll come back and do it again so hope you guys like it."

That would be AWESOME! I just hope it's not like when, after Mirage concerts, Lindsey would declare "See you real soon!" lol

I'm more concerned with Stevie's vocal health. I don't want to start up another debate on her voice but I am concerned that 40 dates in the States may just about be enough for it to handle.
I'm concerned about this as well...seems like Stevie ALWAYS gets sick and shows get cancelled, on every tour. That's why I'm hesitant to buy airfare for any out-of-state shows I might attend...

I'll try to keep everyone in the know about this fan club and stuff I can transcribe or whatever...so far...there's a few videos with mostly Mick (snore...zzz LOL) and one with Lindsey (YAY!!!!!! LOL) and when Stevie speaks (GARBO SPEAKS!! LOL), I'll try to let ya'll know what she says...okee? I think it's a shame how not everyone can afford to be apart of the stuff offered, so I'm gonna try to help ya'll out when they give interesting info. :)
I still think for 60 bucks, I should get a tee-shirt, a button, a monthly newsletter, a membership card with their pic on it, and...a 24 karat gold ring.

Here is a lil of what is on the videos from the Fan Club, I can't transcribe all the videos...too much yada, yada...LOL Here's the meaty stuff:
Ray Lindsey is an assistant engineer on the album. (Well, I'm assuming that Raymond is Ray Lindsey...would that be right folks?)
Lindsey says it is a treat and safe working in the house where they recorded.
Lindsey says they recorded in a non-state-of-the-art manner, with drums being set up in hallways and such.
Lindsey is taking Mick and John's great rhythm section and putting his own sensibilities to them (like he ALWAYS does!).
Lindsey says this album is an anthem to survival and optimism.
Yeah, who's video did I love the most..LMAO!!
Can I just say...WHY does Mick have to do ALL the dang videos!! LOL Where is Stevie and John??? I need more Lindsey too!! LOL Mick does 95% of the video banter. Hopefully, we'll get Stevie and John and more Lindsey soon...

The best one is Customs. If you import anything over £18 in value they charge you the 17.5% VAT on the goods then Customs duty and then they slap 3.5% import duty on the lot, yes they tax the tax! Still, could be worse, could be living in the tax nightmare of Germany!
:shocked:Yeesh. George Harrison wasn't kidding (when he wrote Taxman about his country's government)!

Dear Official Fleetwood Mac Fan Club Member:
We wanted to send out a first email to officially welcome you to the Club!
We’ve updated all the videos in the Studio Tour section of the fan
site. If you haven’t seen them all yet, feel free to log on and see the new rooms. Right now these are made for high speed connections, but low speed versions are coming within a week or so. We’ve been swamped with questions for the band and have already given many to members for their answer. We should be posting the first set of questions and answers within a week. PLEASE GOD LET LINDSEY ANSWER MY QUESTION!!! Visit the Club through the link at www.FleetwoodMac.com.
We know everyone wants to know concert dates and venues. As soon as we know these you’ll get an email from us. You will have an advance purchasing window before the public including the choice of picking from our Club Only reserved seats!
Congratulations on joining the club. You’ll have great benefits and a super close connection to Fleetwood Mac as the tour progresses!

Yeah, I feel the same way. It is not just Stevie I am afraid of getting sick either. I am going to try to see the first few shows on the tour if I can. I am going to make sure I can cancel the hotel. On the train, bus or airline ticket I could get a credit at least if the show is cancelled.
