94.7 The Zone!!!!!!

This morning I was pleasantly surprised to hear Fleetwood Mac mentioned on the morning show with Brooke, Jill and the Whipping Boy. I did a little yeah baby scream in my car UNTIL they finished their speech. What they said was that the new FM album was coming out and in order to cut costs the band was looking for a promotional revenue. It was said that McDonalds offered but wanted to change their name to "Fleetwood BIGMac in light of Stevie Nicks' figure" I was like oh, great, what a load of crap. One of the girls said well she has been losing weight these days so I don't know if they can say that now but a few years ago when she was fat....
Then they proceeded to say who cares about FM, everyone has probably forgotten about them anyway. WHATEVER!!!

Well they suck!

Tune into XRT (93.1) instead. They surely will play the new FM songs because they play lots of old FM and just the other day I heard Sorcerer and Bobby Scafish (sp?) excitedly talked about the new FM album.

So not to worry....we'll hear it on at least one Chicago station.

Ugh...what jerks!!!! I swear, I can't listen to morning radio, most of the time I get mad and annoyed at the obnoxious "Air-personalities." I mean, why do they always have to resort to making fun of people?

DJs have to be sarcastic, and snarky, to keep listeners interested (or so they think).

But those very same DJs will be gushing all over Stevie and the band, if they do an on-air interview with them... mark my words.

By the way... how many radio stations out there have a DJ referred to as "Whipping Boy"??

Our local alternative rock station, The X, also has a DJ named Whipping Boy.

I guess not only are these guys all playing the same cookie-cutter music across the country, they're all going by the same names.

That reminds me of something a friend of mine went through a few years ago that says a lot about the pretense behind the whole radio biz, I think. He was trying to get into radio and he had good luck getting midnight shifts. When I asked him when he'd get a daytime shift he said most likely never because he wouldn't go by some weird nickname they wanted to give him in order to make him seem like he had more attitude. He said the nicknames dj's go by are often not organic, they are assigned.

I always thought that story showed how superficial radio is. It's so contrived and all about the money.

That's crap!! How dumb....like it's not uncommon for radio people to start "at the bottom" with over-night or really super early morning shifts...but the nickname thing sounds like some sort of Corporate radio thing...

The stations I work for actually discourage nicknames...we have to go by at least our real first names, last names are optional...we only have one person with a Nickname..."trinity" lol....so maybe your friend just needs to find a non-jerk radio station to work for. :)

I used to listen to 94.7 until they fired Kevin Matthews about a year ago. They also switched to a new "Alternitive" format around that time. Since Fleetwood Mac doesn't fit in their format, I guess they feel like dumping on them.

Also, Brian the whipping boy was a member of Mancow(Howard Stern Jr.) Muller's morning show. I would expect ignorant comments from him.

I was listening to 105.9 yesterday and heard them mention the new album during the news break. My joy also turned to anger when Kevin Matthews said that the album was going to "tank".

I feel that part of the problem is this "1st album in 15 yrs" marketing. Many, who are not familiar with Fleetwood Mac, think that the band members have done nothing since 1983. They feel that this is a nostalgic reunion. Everyone seems to forget about the albums that Fleetwood Mac, Stevie, & Lindsey have released since then. I mean TISL was just last year for cryin' out loud!!

Anyway, I know (hope) that the album will do well, even with all of the backhanded digs being made by various DJ's.

Yes, Joe they are still around and yes they still do Feature Artist Friday (actually they do 2 featured artists). I intently wait for FM to have their day, which I'm sure they will and have in the past. Plus on Thurs. they have "New Releases Thursday" so they are sure to play new FM.

what pisses me off is the obnoxious on-airs that talk **** about the artists they play. seriously.. it'll be like.. they'll play a damn "Todays best hits.. your favorite stars.." liner (or whatever for your format) and then be like (for instance) "britney's fat and ugly and christina is a whore, they suck bwahahaha i'm so funny!" .. then play a britney song. morons.

vh1 had that sexiest artists thing or whatever a while back.. and kylie minogue was on that list b/c of her lips.. well anyway.. the other day, "Izzy Real" (pleez.) gets on the air and is like .. "oh kylie minogue is so ugly.. she needs to get some fat pumped into her pencil lips.." and i'm thinking, you dolt. anyway.. 2 hrs later on the midday show, the next dj is like favorite stars blahblahblah kylie minogue.. talkin' all good about her.

durrrr.

They have to play what they play, but Im serious, its not cool to trash artists...

I mean Britney and Mariah are fair game...because who really takes them seriously, but the classic artists, I think they need to lay off. There is being funny but fat jokes need to go.

I kind of think its funny they made fun of Kylie...or anyone for that matter, because these people are low paid dj's who's only mean of making money is because of these artists they make fun of. Without them, they'd be jobless.

If I were a dj, id be light and funny and not be so gushing but I think Id refrain from fat jokes/old jokes and ugly jokes. No need to GO THERE.

LOL...that made me laugh so much!!! but really...I don't make fun of anyone when I'm on shift...I do some music news etc...but I don't even like all these people making fun of Michael Jackson...he's obviously a very disturbed person...key work being person...I just believe in respect....but that's me...I agree that fat and ugly jokes are way over the line...there are ways to be funny without being completely cruel.

Ugh, what deadheads. I remember when I was younger and my mum rang up one of our local stations when they were all joking and laughing that Karen Carpenter had died after falling into a salad. :distress: I'm glad we don't have your calibre of shock jocks though - they're all yours.

Where I work.. the low-paid djs will be jobless if they do that. Why? Because the listeners call in and gripe about it. You're supposed to have a little bit of respect. When you make fun of something your listener likes, it's like slapping them in the face and saying, "Dumbass, your taste SUCKS."

It's not right, and IMO, there is no justification for it. Period. The artists can talk smack about each other however much they want.. they're in the same boat. But.. unless your sorry ass can do better, Mr. DJ.. lay off.

and the karen carpenter joke.. that's just sick. i'd pick up the phone, too.
