View Full Version : Mick's web site

I must confess I was sort of down on Mick's web site. I thought it was just some self-adulation endeavour designed to heighten his stature with the Fleetwood Mac-loving world while making a few extra pennies from sales of his life story on video.
Boy, was I wrong!
I don't know how many of you have been over there lately, but man, that site is chockfull of useful information. They even have a link to Sararhiannon's site for the Fox clip with "Say You Will" in the background. How many bands would do that for you? I finally climbed down from my high horse and took a swing by this week. And I was very pleased with what I saw. Mick has graciously and generously taken time from his busy schedule to keep us abreast of his lavish vacations and personal and professional endeavours. Oh, to be a rock star with all the well-deserved trimmings! One can only dream.
And not only that. Did you know Mick contributes to handpicked charities? And he is kind enough to bring his devoted fans along on his philanthropic efforts. I was truly pleased to be informed of this*. How kind of him to want to help out little orphan drummers, and such. Oh, but I jest, since I really don't know what the causes are.
But here's where Mick's site becomes very useful to the fan. I found that if you register by choosing an ID and password, you may become a member of this tight-knit community in a matter of seconds. Hey, even enrolling in your local parish church takes longer than that! So I registered folks, and boy, I had never felt better about doing something on the Net. I had some questions for Mick, for which I eagerly await the answers. I have no doubt that he takes some time out of his workday to read every last word from his devote fans. Here are the questions I've posed (of course I am paraphrasing, but I put a lot more thought into how I worded them on Mick's site; I wanted the questions to be clear and easy to read so he doesn't have to spend more time on them than he has to):
--What charities does he contribute to from the sales of pre-ordered CDs?
--If I disapprove of the causes he has chosen, do I get a discount on my CD pre-order?
--Could Fleetwood Mac check with me before scheduling concerts in New York to make sure I'm available?
--What kind of nail polish does Lindsey use to keep his nails strong?
I have no doubt that he will answer my questions as soon as he humanly can.
*Paraphrased from Jagger/Richards, "Far Away Eyes."

Sorcerer, I am genuinely interested in finding out what charities Mick is contributing to. It's about full disclosure.
As for the tenor of my post, well, I'll leave that up to you to decide. ;)
CelesteNadia, that quote at the bottom of your post: Did you write that? I like that a lot.

I agree. The first thing I thougt was "What charities?" and "How much is being donated to these charties from each membership to the fan club?"

Well, folks, lest anyone carry with the disappointing conclusion that Mick has ignored my questions, rest easy for I received the answer to one question:
Lots of you asking baout the causes Mick supports on the site. A portion of the proceeds will go to The NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) to help their choice of high quality artist outreach and support programs and/or to Music Cares which offers healthcare benefits for musicians who often have no "employer program". Give us a couple of months and we'll give you more details and info on these and others we'll be supporting. To those of you on the boards with three or more stars, please help spread the word about the Poster and the Causes.
More Soon!

What a nice, helpful fellow The Knight is.

I cannot even stand the sight, or should I say site, of Mick at the moment.

Oh you mean the one that wears all the metal armour to stop anything possibly dangerous getting through and causing discomfort but still manages to carry weapons to inflict maximum damage on others?
Oh, I'm thinking of medieval knights! Or am I??
This site and it's membership fees has to be the biggest financial insult to my intelligence I think I can remember. Good old Mick.

It's funny isn't it...Mick said he wants to "get closer to his fans"....so he's employed some condescending jackass who remains nameless and answers only questions which may ultimately result in financial benefit to Mick. What do you want to get closer to Mick...the fans or their money?
CarneVaca, I don't think Mick's site is as buzzing as it first looks. I really do think a large handful of screenames are part of the site's administration team, pretending to be loyal fans. It would certainly explain why the majority of the regular posters there act like they're permanently on speed.
Take the day of the "Meet and Greet" announcement for example: look at the first few posts. They are totally ecstatic at the idea of giving $1,100 away just like that to meet "a couple of members". No questions asked. One sentence posts. And their post count: 1.
There are also other posters there with huge post counts who I also believe are part of the site's team. Their job: to (try to) make other fans think "ooh, that huge fan has decided to pay the gazillion dollars for Mick's underwear, so maybe I should too!:]"
Unfortunately (for them) Mick's management/web administrators seem to have made the critical mistake of thinking that "fan = moron." Sorry, Mick, it ain't so: here's a better idea, when the show comes round to London you pay me $1,100 and I'll put you into a hotel room, arrange transportation for you to your drumkit and in the meantime I'll think about whether or not I should meet you. Deal?:)

Well, guys, since I kind of have a thing for fairness, here goes:
There's definitely a creepy undercurrent on Mick's site. But I've made some pretty strong, critical statements, occasionally a wise ass remark or two, and got into a tangle (now there's a surprise!) with another poster or two.
And guess what? So far they've given me no strikes and my account still works!

...and I wanted to barf!
I used the pc I have at work to go lurk over there for a few minutes (the "bb" crashes my mac broswer as I've said, but it's no big loss) and in the short time I was there and the little I saw I was totally creeped out:
1. I actually saw one of these mick-can-do-no-wrong cheerleaders with 1000+ posts telling someone who was skepitical about the fan club to LEAVE.
2. The few skeptics there who asked more than just simple questions about their concerns seemed to go unanswered
3. One skeptic referred to an earlier post of theirs that had been DELETED by someone other than he/she!
4. The only complaining on one thread seemed to be that there was too much negativity and complaining!
5. Someone apparently posted the fine print you agree to when you get a fan club membership...this I want to see again, I didn't get a good look, but it looked like there are no guarantees to anything:(
6. More praise and endless thanks for Mick and the "Knight" for working so tirelessly for the fans! (I think they get paid by the hour)
7. Someone pointed out how many tens of thousands of dollars Mick had made off the first day of fan club memberships and nobody seemed disturbed by this!
Now all of this was just my brief observation and in some cases, my opinion. I certainly don't blame or judge anyone for posting or checking over there who wants info. After all, it is an official site and there is so much exciting stuff going on right now. I'm just a little nauseous from these freaky cheerleaders, and their lack of respect for a little dissent/skepticism/questioning that did NOT include any artistic criticism or "trolling."
I'll talke quality and variety over quantity any day .

Good question...there can't be that many Mick fanatics, lol.
Mick's site IS creepy & I agree with everyone here who is saying the whole fan club thing is questionable/wrong. It's so obvious that it's all about the $$$. Do those people think we are THAT stupid?
It will be interesting to hear the stories people come back with after the shows, because then we will be able to make a final judgement~~~You know, all of this makes me regret the fact that Mick(or whoever) passed up the chance for THIS site to be official a long time ago. What a shame.

It just seems to me that the team Mick hired to do his website has come up with some bad ideas. I mean, do you really think that Mick sits around and thinks up those crazy schemes? I don't. I think the people over there think up this stuff and then they pitch it to Mick who then says yes or no.
This site is so much better than that one. I really like the Nicks Fix too. The Mick/FM sites are so commercial & I have a feeling they won't last too long after the tour is over. Besides, the only time I ever go over there is to see what you guys are so mad about.

and I saw this posted:
"You will get to see all the available Fan Block seats. _Almost all venues have this block. _It is a huge block of tickets. _The terminology for most venues is "Best 20% of Floor". _This means Club members can choose from seats front (often starting in the 5th or 6th rows) and center first, then further back. _We should have enough seats in each show to cover our membership with good and great seats. _
However - If all the Fan Club Block is purchased before you log on to Ticketmaster, you'll still be given the opportunity to purchase tickets from the General Public section BEFORE tickets go on sale to the public. _This virtually guarantees Club members get seats (and generally good ones) at the concerts of their choice."
The 5th & 6th rows? I can understand that if the first 4 rows are reserved for the promoters, contest winners, etc...But surely they wouldnt (Promoters, etc) need 4 rows??
Doesnt the last paragraph sound kinda odd? Does that mean if you signed up for the fan club and if the venue you hope to see FM at has sold all of their alotted "Fan Club Block" seats that you may have to sit with the rest of "The general public"?LOL!!!!...Brian "Glad I saved my money" J

I have to say the line...
The whole idea is that the die-hard fans should get "special access" and the Band wants you yelling and screaming as close as you can get to them. ... did piss me off a little. Is it that you are not a die-hard fan if you don't (or can't) join the fan club?? I consider myself a die-hard fan...heck I spent a fortune getting to Vegas to see Stevie....not joining the fan club doesn't make me any less of a fan

I haven't been there for weeks and I just read your nail polish thread... OMG I'm totally busting a gut right now, especially because I don't think "Lisa" gets your Simpsons references. Thanks for the laugh man.
Anyway, I totally wouldn't be surprised to find out that "Knight" uses several screen names over there. I honestly didn't think there could possibly be that many goon-ball creepy Fleetwood Mac fans lurking in the bushes this long. I mean where have they all been before the advent of Mick's site? One creepy knight with several creepy screen names would seem to make a lot more sense and offer a more suitable explanation.

Yep it's a big scam over there. I have asked some questions about the tours and coming to Canada. Prices for Canadain fan club members. The DVD of the making of Say you will that Mick once said they were going to release.
All I got is another way of how I can send them my money for the club if I don't have a credit card. None of my other questions were brought up. They charge the same for Canadians, but we have to pay in American funds which turns out to be double.
Over a hundred dollers is a lot for a few back stage clips.

Maybe it's been that way for a while...I don't know, but I peeked again at work. Boy is it bitter over there! I guess I'm not that surprised. There is reason to be bitter and if I actually chose to post over there I'd totally be bitter...and here on the Ledge, there isn't much to be bitter about except, well, Mick and how greedy he's being via his site! I mean, look what he's doing to his fans...tearing them apart...they're torn between their love for the band and their values...something we wouldn't expect from a group of people whose music has become so personal for us. It's so sad.
I admit I was pleased to see some posters over there calling attention to the "suck-ups." Those psycho posters are really pathetic, and totally ask for it:mad:.
