I don't think I could think of ten favorite rock bands. I sort of dislike rock.
On top of my list is a band called the Beatles. They were pretty good. Then Fleetwood Mac. They were all right.
Umm.....oh, I also like this guy named Van Morrison. He's kind of interesting.
Umm....can't......really.....think......of.......others......
Oh, yes---Jellyfish!

Doesn't it stand to reason that you could've included Robert Plant with Led Zeppelin and left a slot for another artist??
Anyway...mine are, really, in no particular order...including their solo works in with their band...so when I say "Beatles", that's individually AND collectively...or in the case of Eric Clapton, that would include the groups he was a member of Cream, Blind Faith, Yardbirds and Derek & The Dominoes, too...oh, and only considering artists in the rock genre:
Beatles
Rolling Stones
Eric Clapton
ZZ Top
Allman Bros Band
Little Feat
Jimi Hendrix
Bonnie Raitt
Santana
Bob Marely & The Wailers
But, other than the first five, the rest could change on a whim.

5. Led Zeppelin
6. Sandy Denny
7. Kirsty Maccoll

Groups only: Stereolab, Yes, The Hollies, Clannad, The Velvet Underground, The Police, Temptations, Ink Spots, Television.
Groups I relate to FM: Eagles, Chicken Shack, Bluesbreakers, Cream, Yardbirds, Small Faces, Firefall, Gentle Giant, America, Traffic.
In no particular order:
The Rolling Stones (Someone told me today they love classic rock, but hate the Stones....I didn't even think that statement was possible? The Stones ROCK..even at 60!)
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
The Police
Bon Jovi
Aerosmith
The Beatles (I'll include in here all solo efforts by the members, as well as Wings)
Eric Clapton (including his work in the various bands he's been in)
The Who
U2
Nelly*
*Okay, okay, the last one doesn't fit AT ALL....but I love Nelly! He's one of the very few rap artists I ever listen to.
I'll also mention in here how I am only 22 years old, and most of the bands/artists I listed (all of them, except for two) were around before I was born. I was just talking to someone at my internship today about kids my age and our music preference. We really have a bunch of crap now, and it seems that kids that really are into music, are into classic rock. Just a strange observation...considering our parents and grandparents had incredibly different ideas about what good music was.

(1) Fleetwood Mac is my favorite band , of course, and all their solo efforts too, but other than that:

(6) Simon and Garfunkel
(7) Bob Dylan
(8) Jefferson Airplane
(9) The Grateful Dead

This is really hard, because other than FM and The Rolling Stones, I don't really have specific favorites. I just like to listen to pretty much all kinds of rock. But I'll give it a try:
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
U2
REM
Sister Hazel
Sheryl Crow
Alanis Morissette
Eric Clapton
Heart
Queen

Hey, what's wrong with DD? LOL I like their stuff! BTW, I like Roxette too, I have their greatest hits CD.
Hmm...let's see YOUR list..LOL
Queen - AWESOME...I have the greatest hits set.
BeeGees - AWESOME...the only good thing about Sat. Night Fever, IMO
Genesis - AWESOME...I have Phil's greatest hits...which includes Genesis songs...
Dire Straits - AWESOME...Mark's voice is nothing to sneeze at, but his guitar work is PHA-NOMINAL!
Radiohead - I don't listen to/own their CD's.
Simon & Garfunkel - AWESOME...I love Art's voice.
Doobie Bros - I don't own their CD's, but I know some of their songs, and Michael McDonald has a cool voice!
ABBA - I'm not a fan, but they are okay...my dad likes em!
Simply Red - I only know like one or two of their songs....but cool!
Roxette - I own their greatest hits CD.
DARNIT....can't find anything crappy in your list to make fun of!

This is weird. I really like Duran Duran a lot but the opposite is true of Roxette, I kind of hate them fiercely. :^)
Nobody seems to have mentioned Peter Green's Splinter Group or John McVie's Gotta band. Hmmm. Or did I not read carefully.

I do see your point, I do find post-Kid A very hard to listen to, and you're right, the other albums were so much easier to 'digest'.
I just hope that the next album, is just as easy to digest as everything before Kid A.

Hmm...there is no band (or single performer) that I'm as obsessive about or interested in as Fleetwood Mac. My top 3 come close, as far as tracking down bootlegs and getting excited about tours, but most of my music time really is devoted to FM.
1) Sheryl Crow
2) Train
3) U2
4) The Lemonheads
5) Toad the Wet Sprocket
6) Gin Blossoms
7) Chris Isaak
8) Smashing Pumpkins
9) Matchbox Twenty

1. ABBA
2. Beatles
3. Genesis
4. Kate Bush( Not a band)
5. No Doubt
6. U2
7. Enya ( not a band)
8. Pink Floyd
9. The Who
10. David Gray ( yes...not a band)
Any more more more. These are the artists I listen to the most though, and buy the most of probably. I also like Radiohead, but I also think after OK Computer, I just don't understand why they had to go so left field. I also really like Dido, but she is in hiding, same with my fav. Fiona Apple, but she is also just MIA. There are so many 80's and 70's bands I LOVE like Queen, Tears for Fears, Erasure, Joe Jackson, Eagles, Heart...but that would be in my top 20:)
If I just did BANDS then it would be
1. ABBA
2. Beatles
3. Genesis
4. No Doubt
5. U2
6. Pink Floyd
7. The Who
8. Queen
9. Eagles
10. Radiohead

Yay!!
In no particular order, really, except JA and ABBA definitely go at the top of this list. They'll flip flop, but I love them both dearly.
1. Jefferson Airplane. (Includes all incarnations, incl. Signe.. and when Grace was with Great Society. So.. GS/JA1/JA2/JS/Starship)
2. ABBA.
3. No Doubt
4. Mamas and the Papas (the fashion of passion i rationed with caution because of the notion the potion of passion had never been passed to me..)
5. The Beatles (Occasional Beatles burnout. Prefer 1967 & later.)
6. Blondie
7. Pink Floyd (After Syd.)
8. Dave Matthews (DMB Burnout occurs.. but they freakin' rule Live.)
9. Queen
10. Simon & Garfunkel
I limited myself to Bands.. cuz.. if you had said artists, it would have been damn near impossible. Possibly we can start a new solo-artist/group thread at some point.. cuz i didnt include like.. Musiq.. Stevie Wonder.. Outkast.. cuz they aren't really "bands,"even if they do have a backup band.

I don't listen to a lot of bands, I just realized. I love the Dixie Chicks and Aerosmith.
I listen to a lot of Canadian artists, mainly singer/songwriters such as Jimmy Rankin, Bruce Guthro and Stephen Fearing. Also Blue Rodeo, who play rock/country/folk/jazzy stuff...hard to catagorize.

I like reading the lists posted on this thread and seeing if there's like a common theme within the lists. Sarah, most of your fave bands have men and women. I dig that too...I love when men and women harmonize, and you've gotta admit all that relaionship drama is amusing;):D:laugh:. I know there was plenty of that in ABBA, M&P, the Mac, of course and some in No Doubt. I don't know about JA or its incarnations. Blondie had no relationship drama, just a great love story (Debbie and Chris Stein formed the group, stayed together through the whole thing, and remained together for 6 years after the band's breakeup in 1983...nearly 20 years together).
Have you ever heard Shocking Blue? You might like them. I've only heard like 4 of their songs and they are kinda cool. I think they were a psychadelic 60's one-hit wonder group (they sang the original hit "Venus") from Sweden, I think. I know they were European. anyway, you should check them out if you haven't. They were a bunch of guys with a sexy brunette chick lead singer. That's about all I know about them :D
