I was in a bar in NYC a couple of weeks ago with friends and grooving to some mellow hip hop song that was in the background. Then my ears perked up and I was like "Where have I heard this?" It took me a second, but I swear the instrumental part of the song was the demo I Call You Missing (also known as She Calls You Missing). I told my friends, "Hey, this beat is from a Stevie Nicks demo from like 1985!" And they were like "Sonia, you have to bring Stevie Nicks into every conversation."
So, has anyone else heard this? I didn't hear enough of the song to get any more info and I couldn't find the dj, if there was one. I suppose I could be wrong, since I did have a couple of beverages that night, but I swear that's what it was. If there are any hip hop connoisseurs on the ledge or if you know one, I'd sure like to know. I can email a not-so-good quality version of the demo if anyone wants to look into this.

Ok i already PM'd Sonia about it..but the piano from "I call you missing" sounds a hell of a lot like the piano sound from a rap song called "I Can" by Nas...it is just at a different speed...

I'm a little confused. I've downloaded "I Can" by Nas a few times and the only similarity I can hear in the piano in that song is to Beethoven's Für Elise. The hip hop song I heard in the bar had the exact instrumental part ripped right from I Call You Missing. If anyone wants to give this demo a listen please contact me, especially if you or someone you know listens to a lot of hip hop. This mystery song is driving me nuts :].

By the way, thanks Sarah, for your suggestion. You've totally gotten me into Nas, by the way . I downloaded a bunch of his songs and I really like him...he's very positive but interesting. I'm picky about hip hop... I hate stuff that's really fluffy and poppy and the stuff that sounds all pissed off... I knew Nas was good but I had no idea some of the songs I like are his and how cool he is.
