LB has yet again worked wonders with one of Stevie's tracks.:)

I like everything about this song...her voice does sound aged, but absolutely gracefully, and she sounds good, period. It's still signature "Stevie".:nod:

The guitar is splendid. Nice to see LB has been putting those hours tucked away in the studio to good use. I'm pretty sure that's the Turner RS-6 in the background providing that amazing rhythm to Stevie's vocals, and the mini guitar solo sounds very, very, "Lindsey".:)

This is obviously one of their more "standard FM tunes" from the album, and not one of the "new sound" tracks that Mick often talks about...I think we'll have to wait to hear one of LB's songs for that!;) It is great though, easy listening & radio-friendly.

Although this new album has lately been frequently compared to Tusk, this particular song actually sounds very "Tango In Night"-ish to me.

Well, since it's "out", I guess there's no harm in me giving my opinion on it.

Lindsey actually left it pretty much intact. I was suprised at how little he changed. What he did do, however, was add his trademark, expert guitar work, and I like it. As soon as the song's intro begins you know it's Lindsey. I'm sure they will do this song live a la Big Love.

Now, I have to say, I've always thought Thrown Down was a bit draggy, and there are a couple improvements on that score. I like the alternate lines that Sharon and Lori sing (although I hope their presence is not overwhelming on the album, this IS Fleetwood Mac after all). - P.S. I obviously don't think that's Lindsey's voice.

While Lindsey and Stevie sing it pretty straight, sounding good together as always, it gets really powerful as they take it up a notch towards the end.

Sharon and Lori: There's nothing left to say....

S&L, really picking it up: About just how much he never really told her...about how difficult it had been to be without her...

I think that's the best part of the song.

It's better than the demo, although, as I said, very similar in many ways. The stuff that isn't does indeed improve it, but it certainly hasn't been "transformed" like, say, Rhiannon or Gypsy.

It's my feeling that the only reason Lindsey really made "radical changes" to Stevie's songs, in the past, was the fact that she typically presented them to him as simple, unarranged, piano demos... which, obviously, would require a rather radical alteration in order to be serviceable as an album track.

However, "Thrown Down," and the other 'Trouble In Shangri-La' demos that Stevie pulled for Fleetwood Mac to use, were pretty much "finished demos." Some guitar... some keyboards... a drum machine... backing vocals.
Not too much for Lindsey to have to alter regarding the song itself, since the basic "feel" is already clear.
So it would just be a matter of laying the basic tracks, then making a few tweaks, doing a little bit of polishing, and adding some "glitz."
Which is typical of any production job... but definitely something that Lindsey excels at.

well, I am going to be good this time and try to wait for the album...when TISL was waiting to be released, I overdosed with pre-released downloads and I paid for it since my first listen of the cd wasn't really "my first".

and there is nothing like listening to a new record for the first time, it's really an out-of-this world feeling. I also downloaded the Gift of Screws demos which I don't feel tooo bad about since Lindsey never released the album.

so I'm going to hold out as long as possible especially since it looks like some of our favorite demos are going to be on the album anyway...:nod:

i figured it out...... great sound..:) the vocal and arrangment are perfect... I never heard this song before now..:)
thanks for sending to me.....the Bass really drives this tune..... reminds me of a Mirage track... its definitely a fresh sound in these oh so monotonous days of radio airplay... normally i wouldnt want to hear something like this until i buy the album... however... I have waited 10 years for lindsey's next solo album... which may never come to light... at least I get to hear something NEW :)

I consider myself one of Stevie's best fans and am very knowledgeable on her life and music, released and unreleased but I just don't post as much on this board as many of you and I have been a Ledgie since February of 2001. I don't want to hear this version of Thrown Down until I have the CD. I have the demo so at least I know a little about it. But, no...we run the thing up the flagpole, illuminate it with floodlights and yell to the record company, "HEY, WE'VE GOT A NEW FLEETWOOD MAC SONG, NEE-NER, NEE-NER", instead of being quietly giddy over our good fortune and giving each other a knowing nod of "we beat 'em at their own game" and distributing the tune "in the shadows".

I wonder if this is the final version or if its not finished yet?

The most significant thing about this song is that Lindsey didnt just "produce it" ... you get the feeling that he really liked the song and enjoys being around Stevie in the studio again.... its been a long time since they recorded together and Stevie wasnt on some drugs or fighting with him about something...in the past he would produce the songs and play on them but it still sounded like he was just doing it because he had to.. not because he wanted to or because he really liked the material.... here you can tell he loves it :)
so do i ..... I am counting the days until I can buy this album ..

Somebody who _can_ needs to post this on their website. I finally got the file and thought I'd pass the favor on but I haven't been able to get any of my e-mail accounts to send the file. And my web site isn't accepting it either. I'm sorry to all those people (like 30) who requested it from me at my various e-mail addresses, but I can't transfer it. Even Yahoo Messenger won't send a file that's more than 1mb!

Can someone just send me the entire album? haha...that's what it's going to come down to in the next few months.

As usual, i'm stuck in the middle. I agree with the people that want to wait till the album comes out. I didn't have a computer till after TISL was out so the only thing "ruined" for me was knowing which older songs were being used. I tried listening to one song a day or week when that album came out but it didn't happen. I guess I was trying to prolong the newness of the album.

I guess NOT knowing anything these days about an upcoming album is impossible since we have so much media and a wealth of information. However...we have all waited soooo long for this so i don't frown intensely upon it like some of you because a song leaked out and everyone wants to hear it. Personally, I'm looking at it as though the label has released the "first single" but the album won't be out for a while yet. On the flip side, I don't think i want to hear any other songs til the album comes out. Actually, maybe i'd like to hear one of Lindsey's completed songs and that's it. No more til the Spring. If it means not going on the Ledge then so be it.

I totally respect everyone's opinions but let's not get too overwhelmed by this..t's like telling a kid he/she can't open their Christmas presents till the end of the day.

One more thing I've learned is if someone tells you to be on the QT about something then they shouldn't be telling it at all. They are the ones to blame. Whoever leaked this out from the studio is to blame.

Soooooooo........can someone send this to me??? =)

Yep, when TISL came to the store I already heard the entire album and it kind ruined the day. What I mean is that before I had a computer the excitement of going to buy a new SN of FM, was great since I didnt know the songs there was great expectation to here them.

Of course, I dont regret having the computer or hearing the TISL. Its just, I have to get used to that going to buy the album would be a different experience.

I agreed with all that you said here. I dont know if had your strength but I'll like to here this one just to have an idea of how the album its going to sound and the fact that Thrown Down is one of my favorites demos from stevie.

So, as you said it would be a great Christmas present if someone would send it to me.

Oh without a doubt...Lindsey and Stevie should be together, at least musically. What a "dynamic duo" these two make. I think the song sounds great with Stevie's voice being exceptionally infectious..... you know there's no other voice like it on the planet!

The "additional vocals" sound similar to Christine's voice or what I would think would be her vocal part in the song.... but I think that it IS Sharon and Lori.

A leak or a smart promotional plug by the record company? I think the latter. I would think that the whole album would be available if it was someone "getting even". Causing quite a buzz already if I do say so myself. :)
