I finally got around to buying a DVD player Friday night - with a surround sound system. After getting it all hooked up (around 10:30 PM) I then realized that I needed to buy an RF modulator to get a picture on my old TV. I decided to wait until Saturday to deal with that, sooo...what better way to break it in and at least LISTEN to the system with the Rumours DVD?
It was so good, I nearly cried! I can never listen to that album any other way. It really is like sitting in the studio, with the band playing around you...the vocals literally swirl around you. Instead of songs fading out, you hear them until the band stops playing their instruments and someone hits the "stop" button. It's truly amazing!! There are vocals and instruments that I've never heard before. My only complaint is that the glass-breaking in GDW isn't on this version.
Remember how you were blown away when we went from vinyl to CD's? This tops that! Bravo to 5.1 audio technology, and to Richard Dashut and Ken Callait! There's an article in the new Rolling Stone (with a great pic of Stevie) that talks about 5.1 audio, I'll post the link in a second...

I got mine on Ebay...You can play it on any DVD player, it will NOT play in a CD player. But to get the full effect, you will need at least 5 speakers, such as a surround sound system. There is no video on it, just a collage of the respective songwriter's face, and recording notes while one of their songs is playing, . There is also a list of the instruments used on each track, and a VERY cool album cover photo shoot montage type of thing, with Stevie and Mick being silly.

Wow! I didn't realize it was so different than the regular album. Now I'm on a mission to get a copy! Thanks for all the details.

to hear "Tusk" in 5.1 stereo from the future "DVD-Audio" myself...Wonder which geniuses will pass it off as outtakes/demos/etc.? Anyway the photo session with Stevie & Mick is very cool to see...If you can find a copy of the DVD-Audio, Buy that sucker immediately...Brian "Thrown Down" J.

I bought it the day it was released, and there was only 1 copy at Best Buy left! It definately is incredible! I haven't seen it in the stores since the day I bought it though. Surely those of you who cannot find it could probably find it on Amazon.com.

I agree with everyone here. I never even play my Rumours CD anymore, only the DVD-Audio. You can certainly get it at Amazon, I'm sure. I can't wait for the White Album & especially the Tusk DVD-Audios next year.

Mac Fan, try Vivante Music. They specialise in music for people with good taste.;)
No seriously though, they're UK based and they have all the "hard to find" music items, such as the Rumours DVD-A. I got mine from them the day it came out.

Good luck!:)

I'm having a love/hate relationship with my copy. I have all the right equipment (including a high-end Yamaha DVD-Audio player), but I cannot seem to get the full five channel display to show on my Yamaha AV Receiver, even when I select the five channel option on the DVD's menu. None of my other DVDs or DVD-Audio discs have had this problem! Not even my home theater expert friends can figure it out! Frustrating!:distress:
Other than that, it's a great presentation of what is perhaps the best rock album ever made :D

$17.99 for my copy at "Hastings Entertainment", Well worth the price...BTW, Has anyone seen the new Dixie Chicks Limited Deluxe Version of their album "Home"? It has the Sheryl Crow remix of "Landslide" and an additional DVD with videos including "Landslide" which is cool...Brian J.

I received a DVD-player for Christmas, so I'm anxious to get that hooked up to the surround-sound system I have in my bedroom, and listen to the 'Rumours' DVD-Audio again.
Previously, I've only been able to listen to it thru our DVD player in the living room, and the only speakers its connected to, are the ones on the television.
Even *that* still sounds amazing, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing it thru my stereo system.

Can this in fact be played on ANY DVD player? I thought you still had to check for compatibility. I have a DVD/VCR combo unit, which means you get the basics of each unit i.e. no bells and whistles. I didn't think the DVD-As would be compatible on it, like I'm pretty sure VCDs can't be played on it. Any clarification our resident techno/audiophiles can offer would be greatly appreciated, because if it can be played on any DVD player, I'm gonna order it tomorrow!

A DVD-Audio can be played on any DVD system, (I bought the cheapest but a high quality system that can play Mp3's & jpeg discs and help mix music), So if I were you I would go buy the "Rumours DVD-A" as soon as possible...Brian J.

I have the same problem - no matter what settings I use on my DVD player (new Toshiba progressive-scan using the coax [bitstream] output) and receiver (Yamaha w/Dolby Digital decoder), the receiver automatically switches to Dolby -Surround- instead of Dolby -Digital-.
