I read this on another list, thought i'd share...

I don't know if this has already been reported or discussed, but I was driving around town yesterday afternoon listening to the radio (Z93 Classic Rock) in Atlanta. They played a little 15-second promo of "Tusk" and they said something like "you'll never guess what's coming" (don't know what that meant really). Anyway, they then played Gold Dust Woman in its entirety, and afterward, the DJ came on and started talking about FM touring next year, blah, blah, blah, the same stuff that has been reported for the past few months, but then she said that the name of FM's new studio album is "Jumping At Shadows". I hadn't heard that before. I had heard that it may be titled Gift of Screws from Lindsey's solo work or that Stevie had suggested the title "Infatuation" but they hadn't picked a title yet. Anyway, I'm not sure where the station got their info - or if it is even correct, but just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone had heard anything confirming or to the contrary.

Well, I suppose anything's possible but I'd be very surprised if they used "Jumping at shadows" as the title as I would imagine they would think it could cause confusion with a couple of older FM releases that bear the same name which include Peter Green era Mac stuff. Unless the DJ got this year's JAS comp mixed up with the new album...

Sounds very uummm.....Fleetwood Mac to me. However I am going to have to go with WETCAMELFOOD( what's that about? It always cracks me up!) it could get confused with some older stuff.

David

That would be very weird to call it "Jumping at Shadows," as John said, because of its association with Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.

Some people think it would be weird to call it "Gift of Screws" because of that title's association with an aborted solo project. But what do you think "Tango in the Night" was?

chiliD
11-05-2002, 12:02 PM
Exactly!! We've got to remember that John & Jane Q Public have no clue what "Gift Of Screws" is, it's history, etc, etc. So, if a majority of Lindsey's songs are, to us, retreads from an aborted solo album, as well as the album title, it's just our own snobbery slapping us in the face if we're upset by it. To 90% of the Fleetwood Mac buying public, it's all "new".

wetcamelfood
11-05-2002, 01:11 PM
I gotta agree with ChiliD & David, I bet the new FM album will be called "Gift of screws" (IF ANY of the proposed titles so far).

Oh, Nicole118 - "Wet camel food" is an anagram for "Fleetwood Mac" (I saw it on VH1 a few years ago when they used to run the "Hold me" video on "Pop up video"). :)

That is the first thing i thought when i read that....i was like...WHY does that sound familiar?? Then i realized it was an old song title... hopefully this DJ is just an idiot or something...I mean it is a cool title...but it is already used...it'd be like Stevie releasing an album called Stand Back, lol.

well, I don't know about anyone else, but I really hope it is not called Gift Of Screws....I really don't like that name, and cannot figure out for the life of me what it means.....I guess it would be normal for a Lindsey album, but for a FM album?? Random....

"Jumping At Shadows" sounds cool, BUT what is the point of having THREE Fleetwood Mac albums with the same name??? There is a 2002 FM album and a 1985 FM album (both a collection of PG songs) with the same name, and of course there is the PG song itself....

"Twist Of Fate" is my favourite of all the suggested/rumoured titles....it's so appropriate, and it just sounds damn cool!

It seems so, very much so. It's the kind of title kids would laugh at, & that's not such a good thing.

I think they ought to name their new album "Camper Van Beethoven."

count this JOE in too!!! "Twist of Fate" is boring...

I can just see the public having fun with "Gift of Screws" (no pun intended) knowing the history of the band!...

Love Chili D's name for the album!!

or Buckingham-Nicks with Fleetwood and Mac!

Seriously, though, do you think Stevie would be happy with calling it GOS? Surely she knows that GOS was to be Lindsey's solo work..

Other than GOS, though I haven't heard anything I really like for the title yet-not that I m the one to be pleased or anything....:)

I agree with what someone said earlier in that "as long as I can get it, I don't care what they call it". :)

Whenever I think of "Twist of fate", it reminds me of that Olivia Newton-John song. Also, just thought, didn't Rod Stewart have a song called "Infatuation" around the same time as the ONJ song? They must be trying for an 80's effect or something! :)

Well, I like Twist of Fate and Full Circle. Gift of Screws is growing on me and it would be cool, but I'm not too sure the rest of the band would go for it.. knowing it was originally for Lindsey's solo thing. I'm sure whatever title they come up with would be great!

Too bad Fleetwood Mac used 'The Dance' already... that might have made a great title for *this* album.
:)

Early on, I thought either 'Twist Of Fate,' or 'Full Circle,' would have made great titles, but the more I think about it, the more I have to agree with the folks who feel those titles are a bit bland.

I'd like to see the band go with something that evokes a certain mood... like the titles 'Rumours' and 'Mirage' did.
He doesn't post around here much anymore, but my friend, Shane, suggested 'Illume'... which is definitely the type of title I think would be best. Something with a bit of intrigue and romanticism to it.

Illume:
To throw or spread light upon; to make light or bright; to illuminate; to illumine.

I agree with the folks who said Twist of Fate and Full Circle are too cliche. I believe the band should come up with something more creative.

Having said that, I don't think "illume" is the answer either. I'm still having trouble imagining just how Stevie is going to work the term "illume" into a song. It's just not an easy word to work into a sentence, never mind trying to sing it. Unless she makes it a point to emphasize the first syllable, it'll just come off as "loom" and create a completely different effect from what she is reaching for. Certain words should never be sung, and I may be proven wrong about "illume." Other words that should not be sung:

Illusory
Grouse
Tutelage

I actually think Illume is one of those songs where the title is only said once, and it's at the very beginning..."Illume says the candle that I burn," or something like that. Kind of like Dreams (okay, she says that TWICE), or Battle of the Dragon which she never says at all. I know the lyrics SAY that she does, but I can't hear it anywhere in the song's ending.

Johnny Stew, lol, what the HELL is with your signature? I nearly busted out in laughter in the middle of the library after I read it. I absolutely love German (if it IS German) as well as other languages like it. They make me laugh so hard. I used to sit in my music class and crack up hysterically at the songs that had German words and then translated them into English. I mean no offense to anyone German here, I actually wish I had taken German. It's just such a funny language to me.

It actually IS at the end of the song....there's alot of vocals going ("...you're not listening to me etc etc) and Stevie comes in clearly above the other vocals with "...battle of the dragon....noone walks away....you wish it to end, wish it to end, wish it to end."

Just wanted to clarify! ;)

I would like a one-word title, a la Mirage and Rumours...BUT I really agree with who ever said they don't care. They can call it Hogswaller, Puketown, or Bloomerville. I just want the damn thing in my hands!

I'm just a greedy little fan who's little demon's comin' on down!

 I don't really care what they call it as long as it has that Fleetwood Macish, sounding title like Rumours, Mirage, etc. It needs to be something unique like the band. It doesn't need to be something that has already been used or almost used. It needs to be an original that goes with the album project. Something that pulls it all together. It is hard to know what they need to call it, when we don't know what is on the album. I'll know if I like the title once I hear the album and get its feel. I'll know then if they picked the right title for the album or not.

'Illume' is the best of the non-GOS suggestions, but I'm afraid I find it too Stevie, on balance.

I just pictured 'Gift of Screws' rendered in that classic FM 'gothic' lettering ... that could really rock!

And for those of you thinking GOS is too Lindsey as opposed to Stevie, well remember there's the 'inital reaction' or 'innuendo' meaning of "GOS", but then there's the meaning in the context of Dickinson's poem. And it's a positivey, Stevie kind of phrase 'the Gift of screws' (that are wrung from the rose).

Another alternative I would love to see is like Rumours, where there is a sufficiently big media and public 'frenzy' of sorts before its release, which would inspire something at once relevant and timeless, like John's 'Rumours' was.

Mandatory silly suggestions ::laugh:

Twist of Gifts
Screws of Fate
In-thin-uation ("FM are looking great and smelling of Wheat Thins!")
We Are the World........'s oldest, zaniest, craziest, best band!

And a Lindsey solo album!:
Out of the Rock ..I've been hiding under!

And finally, a follow up to The Visitor!:
Tried for the Son (... but kept ending up with daughters!)

(I should've given up long ago, but..) Christopher Nicks speaks out with his new autobiography:
Brother of the Loon: "I'm sick of being 'the moon' to her 'sister'! Oh, Lindsey gets all the damned planets of the universe, but I'm a moon?? Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for me? ...No!!"

I was thinking along similar lines and thought that that might not be objectionable to Stevie:

essential oils are wrung
like attar from the rose
be not expressed by suns alone
it is the gift of screws

Illume - ugh, so "girly girl" like calling an album Crystal Visions or something. Frankly, I hope the song has a good tune because the concept of this illume business does not lend itself to good lyrics.

"Infatuation" is also too girly.

"Full Circle" - So corny! Does EVERYTHING have to be about cycles? lol I hope this isn't a cycle-themed album about how they were bad but now it's all good, we all have spiritual fulfilment a a sense of karmic peace, blah, blah. If Come is on it, it shouldn't be! Although I wouldn't mind a love ballad from Lindsey. I've always wondered why he never writes real love songs. Now's his chance!

"Gift of Screws" and "Twist of Fate" are the best choices out of the ones given (I lean heavily towards the latter). HOWEVER, naming the album after a song is tres dull. It's almost as bad as "Buckingham Nicks by Buckingham Nicks" and "Fleetwood Mac by Fleetwood Mac" lol. Mirage and Rumours weren't like that, and it seems like the consensus that those were the best titles. That's a problem Stevie's always had - naming the album after a song. Lindsey has been better about it with L&O and OOTC. Plus that poem he wrote, Sardonic World, uses a title not mentioned in the text. Hmm, how's THAT for an album title?

Here is the poem Illume that can be found at the Nicks Fix under Stevie's Sept. 11th journal entries. The song probably won't deviate too far from this version.

Illume
Says the candle that I burn
A reflection in the window
All the way to point Dune
A cliff dweller from the old school-

I like the coastal cities
I like the lights
I like the way the ocean blends
Into the city at night
Like living on a working river
The coastline is glittering-
Like a diamond snake-
In a black sky

And I am alone with my thoughts
And how we could make it-
And what we have all been through
And all of the trauma-
With the smell of Nag Champa
Like a kiss- like a stranger-
What we have seen on this journey
Are what legends are made of-

I will not take you for granted
My friend, my dear one, my love-
I wouldn’t trade you for jade…
Or for diamonds~
I need you to be there~
Please~
Remember when I am haunted
That I was just scared-
And when I remember
That day in my life-
I will remember that you-
Were there-

To clarify, the name "Jumping At Shadows" is a title of a Peter Green song from Fleetwood Mac blues era. It was never a title of an official Fleetwood Mac album! There are numerous unofficial albums of the group's Boston Tea Party concerts, and one of them happens to be called "Jumping At Shadows." But it is not to be considered as an official Fleetwood Mac album...they didn't name it, the company/persons who distributed the album likely did.

It may be fun to speculate on what the title will be, but it is a long shot in the dark! Anyone who says "it should be this or that" seem to just be trying to insert themselves and their expectations into the groups's creative process. None of us are members of Fleetwood Mac, people!!! Yes, it could be Gift of Screws. Then again, it could be A Gift of Shoes. It could be the title of another song, we know not of yet. It could be something else entirely. It seems silly and futile to me to try to guess the title!

P.S. Whatever the title, I hope it's not as generic and throwaway as someone's suggestion of "Full Circle." eeh! Also, hello to Wet Camel Food aka John. Been meaning to write you!
