(Previously posted in the Stevie Nicks forum)

I'm beyond excited having now learned that (*drops to knees* finally oh God yes finally) at least some of the single versions of Fleetwood Mac's best have been given a home on compact disc.

I was curious if one of the kind souls who has been lucky enough to obtain a copy could post a semi-descriptive tracklisting noting (to the best of his/her knowledge) what versions have (and haven't) been used? Patience was never my thang, and Tuesday seems like a hundred years away.

I'll fling a dash of good karma (and possibly more ;)) in the direction of any willing participent...COMMENCE TRACKLIST CLARIFICATION! (j/k)

:p

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Thank you so much! :)

Does this mean "Sara" stayed in tact and "Gypsy" still isn't on CD with the extra hum (as heard in the video and single edit...I know I'm being petty... :D)

I am so damn excited, and the running order is different from the one originally posted! This is great!

So lemme get this straight. Only 1 of the CD's is enhanced? How many videos you think are on it?

Mattress, if you have the Chain Box Set, disregard this, but the extra line you hear in the video is actually part of an extended ending. They edited the ending on Mirage I suppose to save space, but the extended ending is on the box set. It's not much, just some more "Still see your bright eyes, and it all comes down to you" and "Lightning strikes..." but there's more harmony on them. Stevie actually does a harmony to herself on one of the "It all comes down to you," then the song ends with the "We are bright, I can't find you" and goes into the guitar outro. Not having the Best Of yet, I don't know if they included the extra lines, but I doubt they did. :wavey:

at the 'Very Best of FM' promotional party held in D.C. on Saturday. A good time was had as VJTre (aka Travis) did an outstanding job mixing the Fleetwood Mac/Stevie videos at the club! Since my vcr is on the blink, it was great seeing the many videos of FM again (Little Lies, Seven Wonders, my fave Hold Me, and Gypsy). I also loved seeing 'Angel' from the Tusk documentary and clips of the Stevie/goat episode from 'South Park." It would be nice to have the video collections/Tusk doc/In Concert/Mirage on dvd. Terrific promotional party and a round of applause for VJTre.

SPOILER INFORMATION ON THE NEW CD (for those who are waitin' 'til tuesday).:

My initial thoughts are very positive. Although we've heard the songs listed here time and time again, they have never sounded better or clearer. My recommendation for listening to this record is to put on a quality set of headphones (not the kind that come with the walkmans).. and get reacquainted with your old friends. Most of the versions are from the studio albums, but it seems like they were touched up a bit or something.. i'm hearing vocals, harmonies, and instruments that I haven't heard before. Put on the headphones!

The radio mixes of 'Rhiannon" and "Sisters of the Moon" are two of my favorites, and the band also gives us the radio mixes of "Over My Head'" and "Think About Me." I had never heard this version of 'OMH, and i like it's reggae feel. The cymbal at the start is a little too harsh, but it's just a minor complaint. The radio single versions of "Rhiannon" and especially "Sisters" is worth the price of the compilation alone. Stevie's 'ooohs' have never sounded clearer. Although I won a copy, I did pre-order my own at the record store.. so I'll still be buying it on Tuesday!

I like the inclusion of the Dance versions of "I'm So Afraid" and "Go Insane." Another instance where I'm hearing the songs, a little differently, and much better. Lindsey shines in these two numbers. For me, "I'm so Afraid" is a gem. I'm glad it's on this set.

For the most part, they got the sequencing right. 'Big Love' sandwiched between 'Songbird' and 'Storms' seems out of place. I would have prefered the studio version (sequenced between 'World Turning' and 'Everywhere'). "Storms" is the perfect ending to disc one, and I'm glad it was included. "Paper Doll" never has done much for me, and I would have prefered either "Love Shines" or "Heart of Stone."

You can still hear the "f----" word as the Chain starts disc two, the glass at the end of "GDW", and feel the power of "Go Your Own Way." The studio version "Silver Springs" has never sounded better - with the exception of the Audio DVD. The credits states that it is from the Chain box set, but the ending vocals sound a little different.

"Gypsy" is not the extended version from the box set, but the Mirage version. It just sounds much better, as does "Hold Me" and "Love In Store." I love Mirage, but always felt it needed a little touching up. This is a nice start.

"Sara" is the complete version from the original Tusk Vinyl record.

The packaging is really nice. I love the first photograph on the inside of the cd booklet.. never seen that one before. I like Sheryl Crow's quote: "......You have five really distinct personalities on a record like Rumours, and none of them are invisible."

Sheryl got it right. The invisible FM members are the players who were in the band before and after This set is definitely designed to promote the popular 'Rumours' line-up, as that is where the money is! That aside, it truly is a nice compilation to have if you are a fan of this particular line-up - and the music has never sounded better. It should probably have been called "The Very Best of the Rumours Line-up" although a few of the numbers feature Vito and Burnette.

Now about the visuals.. For whatever reason, I can't seem to download the files for the Vault and the Video of the making of the new album. I keep getting this frustrating message" Director Player Error! Property Not Found. # duration. I'll try it tomorrow at my work computer. I can view the discography and the lyrics sections, though. I tried to send my email to be put on the mailing list, but it doesn't seem to go through. Oh well! I least I have this beautiful, clearer than ever, music to listen to.

Later, Keith :-)

Well, Monday is finally here so off I toddled down to my local Virgin megastore to gleefully buy my copy of the best of, to find that it was a single CD with no vids or special features at all! So then I decided to go to HMV and then Music Zone and found the same. So me being me, to save any embarassment I didnt bother to ask if any other editions were out, I just thought 'sod it' and went ahead and bought it. It was only when I looked on here that I saw that everybody else seems to have a double CD with extra stuff. Can anybody help me here...??

There is two versions out.

A double "enhanced" CD for the USA market and a single CD with Peter Green era tracks and no extra video for the european market.

Not sure if you can buy the USA version in the UK/Europe shops, I got mine online from www.play.com for £12.99 with no postage. Ordered on Friday, recieved it today!!

Hope this helps, for more info check out my UK news page on the site addy below

I did exactly the same!!!
Though I asked last week if they were gonna get the double CD and all I got were shrugs  I hope you bought it from Music zone, as its only £9.99 there :D and £13.99 in HMV :(

The single version of Rhiannon is wondrous, having never heard it before

Also hearing the PG FM songs with the SN/BN era stuff sounds right!!

I'm not going to get VB. I asked my mum about it today. She went on to virgin(website) to see what the tracklisting was like and how much it was. She asked me if I all of the tracks on cd. I said yes, so she's getting me The Dance instead.

It is so worth getting it for the footage. There is a great bit where Lindsey is recording and he has to stop, laughing, as all you can hear are Stevie's doggies yapping in the background!!

My mum says it's not worth it, but all she's seen is the tracklisting and that's it.

Got it now, and it's fab! I wasn't expecting much at first, but this is a best of done right.

Another slightly alternate inclusion is the original vinyl version of "Gold Dust Woman" with the fade-in... nice to see it in it's original form. :)

This is a really great collection, and so very reasonably priced.
