Okay, I just got done watching Beat the Geeks, and I'm pissed all to Hell. Anyone who has watched the show knows that in Round 2, you challenge a geek and answer questions against the geek answering harder questions. So, the contestant challenged the music geek and the contestant was asked, "Who is this (a picture) skinny singer and name two of his songs?" The answer was Beck, and he named two songs, so it went to the Geek. Here's where the terribleness started...

The host asked the geek, showing a picture of Stevie from around TISL, "Who is this CHUNKY singer and name four of her solo albums?" He called her chunky damn it. So as if that weren't enough, the geek did a good job of telling Stevie's story as joining Fritz, then leaving with Lindsey to do Buckingham Nicks, then off to Fleetwood Mac and then solo. THEN, he said (not a direct quote but I'm putting it in quotation marks), "As for her solo albums, I don't know, I must have been addicted to prescription pain killers at the time because I don't remember a thing about them, nor do I want to. They were icky and oozy and 'leather-and-lacy.'" GRRRRRRR!!! I want to write to the show and bash that damn Music Geek, the ugly @$$ that he is! Granted, you can be a music geek and not LIKE Stevie, but I would think if you are a music geek, you should at least KNOW her work. In the words of Hamlet, "It hath made me mad!"

One thing I've noticed about the "geeks"... when they don't know an answer, they usually try to cover with some sour grape type explantion.

"So & So's movies were all inconsequential anyway"... or some such bluff.

As for the "chunky" comment... it never ceases to amaze me how tabloids and other media outlets always have an outpouring of sympathy when someone like Tracey Gold or Karen Carpenter suffers from anorexia or bulimia.... but then absolutely ridicule other famous women who've gained weight, like Stevie, Ann Wilson, and Delta Burke.

What kind of message is that?
"We want you to be healthy and happy... but only if you're not overweight, because then you just deserve to be mocked and humiliated."

The most ironic thing about it... the people making the cracks usually aren't all that attractive themselves!

Beautifully put!! I agree totally...and being a non-skin-and-bones woman I have had the effects of the cruelty and type-casting and such of heavier people..it's so unhealthy...the views of the media on weight...hehe..anyway...I liked what you said and I agree...but I won't go off too much...

I've never seen Beat the Geeks...and now...I won't ever watch...I've been jaded lol...

I, for own, think she is pretty beautiful considering everything she's been through. And she is strong. Did I mention she was GORGEOUS?
