I have always thought it would be beautiful to have a like twelve piece orchestra play an instrumental version of "Crystal" for the procession. The violins, cellos, clarinetes and oboes would be awesome.

I have thought about this SO much...since I will be getting married sometime within the next five years or so....(whenever I decide to freakin' graduate from college lol)
Anyway...her songs are great...but many that start as love songs end up so sad..have you noticed this? SO...I thought Leather and Lace would be great....but I LOVE the idea of the orchestra playing Crystal..I'd never thought about that....but it would be lovely....

Wouldn't it though?
and have a harpist in the mix as well, doing the little plinky water sounds. It would be an unusal and unique way to incorporate their music but still be classy and traditional.
You have to be careful when using popular music at a wedding. If it is not done right it really comes off as tacky.

at my couisins wedding, they chose "At Last" but they said it was by Etta James even tho she didn't actually write the song but I was like telling my sisters if you're gonna give Etta credit, you should also credit Stevie, I love her version...
Most of Stevie's songs have a sad twinge to them so they are not really suited to a wedding song but I always thought "If I Were You" had that music box quality and might make a good wedding song...:wavey:

Wait....if Etta James didn't write it, then who did?? Who else recorded this song?

"At Last was written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon for Glenn Miller and his Orchestra and the 20th-Century Fox films Sun Valley Serenade (1941) and Orchestra Wives (1942). It became one of Miller's biggest hits."
I was starting to freak out a bit because I knew the song was older than the Etta James version but I was having a tough time researching exactly who wrote it...
the singer/songwriter is a rather new invention in music which took off during the late 60's and early 70's, before that the songwriter and the singer were most of the time, two seperate entities...which is another thing that makes Stevie so unique...

I had a friend who used Lindsey's "Countdown" for his wedding reception. However, I told him "Why didn't you use Crystal? What were you thinking?" lol

"Love from Here, Love from There" would make an excellent wedding song -- perfect for the processional.
"Rattlesnake Shake" is a great choice for the first dance.

I think I'd pick Beauty and the Beast....but considering I'm still in high school, I have a lot of time to think about it...

I don't know about the 'first dance', but if I ever get married, I'd probably use Landslide for the father/daughter dance.

I don't know too many Stevie songs that could go as wedding songs. I know Landslide is picked a lot, especially for the father-daughter dance. Leather and Lace might be ok if the bride and groom are kind of opposites of each other. I was also thinking of Love Is, and although not many people like the song, Unconditional Love. Rooms on Fire might make a good song. But, I don't see how Beauty and the Beast is very fitting as a wedding song...unless you wanna call your husband/wife a "beast." I think, for comedy purposes, it would be fun to play Whole Lotta Trouble as your wedding song. On a side note of that, when my sister was engaged to this guy I didn't really like, I said I was going to sing at her wedding: "Has she lost her mind, can she see or is she blind..." the Black Sabbath song, just those lines though. Then, I'd play Whole Lotta Trouble as a dedication.
The more I think about it, the more I like Rooms on Fire as a wedding song. :wavey:

"Unconditional Love" is a great suggestion, Sorcerer.... and I'd add "Sleeping Angel" to the list.
For me, that's Stevie most romantic song.

In yesterday's edition of the NY Daily News, there was a little story on a couple who recently got married.. this is a weekly thing that the paper does every Sunday. Anyway, as I was reading the color scheme and the honeymoon location.. I came across their wedding song. How cool I thought it was that one of their songs was Leather and Lace.

My friend Karen DID use "Leather & Lace" as her first-dance song at her wedding. I think I'd use that second, and Stevie's verson of "At Last" first, that song has always been one of my all-time faves and Stevie singing it just gives it that special touch.

I totally agree Johnny, I think that too. I would choose that one as a wedding song as well. I think these lyrics work great for a lasting marriage (a RARITY these days. :( ):
"Well, someday when we're older
And my hair is silver gray
A braid with all of the love that you have
Like a soft silver chain"

On the sleeping angle thing I wouldnt use it for a wedding the lyrics are great but the song has kind of a sad sound stevie sounds kindof like shes crying whenshes singing it. plus I have the whole Fast Times... Associtaion with that song. Great song but not a song that i would play to dance with to the person I am about to spent the rest of my life with. but thats not a factor for at least 10 years as im still just a soph in HS.

I think that I would choose 'Bleed to Love Her' or 'Crystal' at mine...'Sweet Girl' is another that comes to mind since I'm a music major, but if I'm getting married, then it does kind of reject the underlying theme of the song. But ultimatly, it comes down to what me and my intended agree on. And since she is more of a Audio Adrenaline fan than Mac, I don't know how it would turn out...although, I am slowly turning her...

Hey, I like Audio A too, just that the Mac is above them and I'm showing her more of my music styles...speaking of which, I must recommend a group called Stratovarius and their song Anthem of the World...it is pretty cool...melodic rock-metal...only downside is the vocalist likes the high notes too much...

Sounds cool to me, I'll try to check it out!! I hate that high notes line tho because I was just saying today how I didn't like Mariah Carey's new song because she sings it high the whole time...but still, I will check it out!! Thanks man!

Another thing you may want to check out is the video to Hunting High and Low. It has a really great theme and it shows the outrageous drummer and guitarist. The guy is HUGE!!!

Hunting High and Low?? That is an A-Ha song...is it a cover? I LOVE A-HA and that song/album!! Where do I find this video? Kaaza or Launch.com?
MikeD

It's not a cover, but it has a rather similar theme. Basically, The video is about a Coporate Exec realizing that he doesn't have what he wanted in life and begins looking for it. I found my version on Kaaza because all of the ones on personal websites had been pulled.

Do I have permission to blush? This is probably the most favorable response I've had from my eclectic music tastes in a while. And to think this sprung from a discussion on songs for weddings...a subject that I used to avoid a lot. Man, The Mac has some strange influence...

I am a big believer in listening to new music and trying out new sounding stuff. I started a thread asking people for input on suggesting music for us all to check out and some of it I'd NEVER heard of in my life and it was cool!! There are bands out there that we don't know about, and who knows, they may become our next obsession...even tho the MAC will be my #1...FOREVER! LOL
BTW, I have eclectic tastes too...I love just about EVERY style of music out there, yes, even rap. LOL I love pop and contemporary Christian music the most, but I like all kinds. From George Michael to Dolly Parton to Aerosmith...the spectrum is covered for me! LOL
Heck, John aka wetcamelfood got me into Danny Kirwan's solo AND Mac stuff..and I will FOREVER be grateful for that...as I am now a huge Danny fan...but Lindsey will always be #1!! WOO!!
Weddings...I hate em, but this is a cool thread because as much as I hate to admit it...I'm a romantic. You know, there aren't a TON of Lindsey songs to choose from that would be wedding appropriate..LOL Bleed to Love Her is the ONLY song springing into my head at the moment...

I agree about the broad spectrum of music. I like most styles out there that show inventivness and originality. Though rap is not high on my list, the Christian rap groups do hit pretty high. The only music I abbhor is some of today's country. Untill the pratriotic songs started coming out, it was (with one or two exceptions) was starting to stagnate to my mind. It was getting to be 'My man/woman left me, my truck died, got fired, or found love' All great concepts, but they were sounding similar too much. But, because of my musical style, I tend to drift more towards the classic rock, folk, jazz/blues, latin jazz, and fusion. Makes sense when you consider I am a jazz saxophone major and have delusions of being Michael Brecker when on stage. (oh, listen to The Brecker Brothers 'Some Skunk Funk' from the Heavy Metal Bebop album. They run the sax and trumpet through a wah wah and harmonizer pedals...wicked!! Tried it on my last concert with my college group and had a blast being able to play sixths on a sax!)
As for weddings, I tend to try to avoid the subject. But the sad fact is that I think that I am 1)getting to the point that settling down is getting to be a big desire 2)dating 'the one' and 3)visions of the white house with a pickett fence and 2.5 children running around are becoming welcome thoughts instead of nightmares.
In a related thought, fore I leave for a while, we (my g/f and I) were talking the other night and somehow got on kids and she said that she'd name her daughter Rhiannon. She heard the song on the radio one night while driving home from a volleyball game she had to take pictures of. And add the fact that she is a big fan of Mythology and Aurthorian legend (my group using the song as a feature doesn't hurt either) and the name is hooked in her mind. Blew me away...
Well, I have a rehearsal to get to...I finished arranging At Last and What A Wonderful World tonight so my group can do it. Hope they turn out ok...

I think these would be possibly good wedding songs:
Let Me Count the Ways--it is Stevie's duet with Dave Koz. It is taken from the Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem "How Do I Love Thee." The song is on the album Off the Beaten Path which is a Dave Koz album.
Love Is---Stevie Nicks's song on Trouble in Shangri-La, and
Whenever I Call You Friend---Stevie's duet with Kenny Loggins. The song is on Kenny Loggins Nightwatch album or on Disc Three of Stevie's Enchanted Box Set.
Check them out. I think you would love the meanings of each of these songs.
