~~~I recently read at the Sheryl Crow Site that she is working on a remix of the DC version of Landslide for a preview on MTV. Now I know that Stevie and Lindsey have the definitive version of Landslide, but I'll look forward to hearing and seeing this one. Anything that draws attention to Stevie and FM I'm all for it. Anyone else...~~~
eh, to be honest I'm not too thrilled about that. I hate their cover....
This should be..interesting...I find it surprising that they are going to such lengths to attempt to covet the TRL crowd..the depth of the song seems inappropriate next to something like Christina A.'s "Dirty"(a song i actually like btw..just not for it's profound meaning). Oh well..we'll just have to wait and see what happens with it..
It's actually quite beautiful, and they're all wearing Stevie-type clothes. I thought there was a thread about it here awhile back, how none of us wanted to sit thru country vids on CMT just to see it. I got lucky and happened to catch it at the beginning while channel surfing. However, our local alternative adult cont. radio station is playing another song from their CD instead, the "swing me, sing me" one. LOL I don't know the name of it, but it's catchy.
this will be a remix, of the Dixie Chicks' current single "Landslide" which has been on CMT for a couple of weeks now, and on the country charts everywhere....now whether Sheryl will sing in the Landslide remix or not who knows, but she IS using her production and mixing knowledge to remix it for MTV, making it a different than the radio/CMT/album version by the Dixie Chicks..I do happen to like their cover, and also the fact that Stevie or the mac is mentioned anyone asks about it..
Now this MTV remix, i have no idea....i hope its not too pop or too rock, cuz Landslide is too great of a song to be fast...
It's called "Truth No. 2." I love that song, it's my favorite on that album.
I just saw the video & heard the Dixie Chicks version of Landslide for the first time this morning on VH1. Now I don't usually like remakes of songs, & I'm not a country music fan, but I have to say that I really liked it. I think the Dixie Chicks did a good job on it. I love the way they harmonize, & the video is beautiful. They are wearing Stevie-type clothes.
Guys, it's just a remix of the studio version to make it more pop friendly...like a singles remix. Even Fleetwood Mac did that -- Rhiannon, Over My Head, Say You Love Me. They all were mixed a little differently as singles. There's like, nothing "new" about it, no different singers or anything, it's just a remix. It's not about making it for the "MTV Generation," it's about making it more radio friendly, which I believe has gone on even before MTV.
You're very right, Sorcerer... remixing a single for the radio (or for the video soundtrack) is really nothing new at all.
This has been going on for decades.
Sometimes what sounds great within the context of an album, sounds a little pallid on the radio... so the single is remixed to make it "punchier" and stand out more.
