According to our very credible source, Neil, Ken Caillat's got a little more up his sleeve than FM DVD-A's....

Talk about befuddling....I guess she just didn't want to work with FM anymore? Hmph..

i didn't want to post this here coz it's Neil's scoop, and i wanted him to post it first... ,
that's GREAT news,
i was hoping she will give up her retierment and go back to recording, i certainly hope she'll come up with a great album with mature intimate feel to it, and not some charts-targeted stuff.
i believe she could pull this through

I dont see the article or the mention in the website!!!! Oh well, I just have a question...Is it at all possible that she is making some songs to give to fleetwood mac for the new album?

I have to say that i think this is pretty cool...this way she can do her music, etc. and not have to worry about being dragged into Mick's endless touring endeavors...

I couldn't find anything about a Christine solo album on the website, either. But, if this is true this is unbelievably exciting news!!! Is this news from Ken Caillat directly? I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

Click on the link Brian provided and then scroll down the page a little to the purple section where it has the news and the top line which you can click on says "new Chrstine solo album" (or something like that) and that's where you'll get the scoop. It won't let you copy and paste it here.

Street Dreamer is probably right, I'd be suprised if these recordings are to be for the new FM album as if Christine stays solo, she won't feel like she's getting sucked in to touring with the Mac etc. (as Fiercestcalmsea rightly says)

The thing I'm thinking though, is if we assume that she's staying solo, then what label did she find that would be willing to let her record but not put pressure on her to tour as a solo act to push it? Maybe she's putting it out herself, or perhaps through Ken's company?

Thanks for the news Neil, Brian.

Fantastic news. I guess in many ways this is the Year of Fleetwood Mac! I can't wait to hear Christine's new material, especially with Ken Caillat's golden touch.

This is the most exciting news in months, including the news about the 2 upcoming Fleetwood Mac cd's! So this is what she's doing now she's alone in that big castle of hers... Will she go on tour? I hope so!

Did ken and the mac have a falling out. It's sorta odd that for so many years he produced all of the mac albums with richard and in the past ten years they havnt done all that much. If memory serves me right...lindsey buckingham produced tango...right?

I was suprised that they didnt have ken or richard produce the new mac album, it would be a nice homecoming for them in a sense. I guess its possible that since they took lindsey's solo album and flipped it to a mac record, that they decided to make lindsey the producer of the album.

It's good that she's still involved in music. She's got so much to offer!

This is kind of disheartening to me though.......she's not totally out of music, is still writing and recording, yet refuses to do it with Fleetwood Mac..........when there are still many fans (myself included) who would love to still see and hear her with them......
I'm never going to see the FAB FIVE all together, but there she is, off on her own. :(

I don't know about this........

What's the big deal??

Bob Welch is off on his own, while Fleetwood Mac still carries on...

...Peter Green is in the Splinter Group while Fleetwood Mac still carries on

...Rick Vito...etc, etc...

How could she be in Fleetwood Mac and not tour? She can't, so she does a solo album and can stay at home or do anything BUT tour...it's what she chooses to do...Fleetwood Mac doesn't fit into her plans anymore.

Fleetwood Mac is now Christine-less...get over it.

Get over your rear.........
Knock the high and mighty nasty ol' chip off your shoulder while you're at it too.
Really gets old.
Because I'm sure you've personally sat down with Christine and discussed in depth just what exactly her plans are.
I'm MORE than allowed to have my opinion, which is that (though I will love the new Mac album and tour) I would still like to see her and hear her recording and performing with Fleetwood Mac.
So, in closing, no, I will not "get over it". I cannot stand being told "get over it" by somebody or being talked to like I'm 2 friggin' years old or stupid or something. "Get over it"--How 'bout you try it......
Damn with some of you people...........

Of course everyone has the right to have their opinion, that's not in discussion. And I think we're not even discussing the importance of Christine in Fleetwood Mac. But I can think of lots of reasons (the most important being of course her wish not to tour anymore) that could make her feel more comfortable recording a solo album rather than being still involved with Fleetwood Mac. What I'm saying is that it's her choice... Just like when Peter Green left, when Bob Welch left, when Lindsey Buckingham left after Tango, when Stevie ... they all felt it was the best for them. And Fleetwood Mac went on, of course having all of these shadows of great musicians (and sometimes the heart and soul of the band, like Peter Greeen in the first time) behind them... It was always about Fleetwood Mac, the "whole being greater than the sum of the parts". If this makes Chris happy, then it's good to me. I'd sure love to see her back with the other four guys making music again, but it's really her choice. And if touring is not that important to her, then this is the right thing to do.

Looking forward to hear more news about this album. :)

Some thoughts....

While I would have loved to have seen Christine record just one more album with Fleetwood Mac... so we could see the Rumours-era lineup "back in action" on a brand-new album, one last time... I totally respect her decision to leave the band.

Being a member of Fleetwood Mac has always involved keeping a very hectic pace, and that's just something she absolutely doesn't wish to do anymore... and she's most definitely earned that right.
She's been trying to buy that ticket homeward bound, since 1972!

I think Christine knew very well that if she consented to record with Fleetwood Mac, it wouldnt be long before she'd be roped into another tour.
As it was, she wasn't entirely thrilled about being on the road for 'The Dance,' but did so as a goodwill gesture... but this time around, it would have probably been more out of a sense of duty, and I doubt her enthusiasm would be very high.

So as fans, why would we want Chris up on that stage if she doesn't *want* to be there?

Now... if she records a solo album, she can do so at her own pace, and promote it in whatever way she's comfortable.

A solo Christine McVie project wouldn't have to involve quite the same amount of mega-promotion that a Fleetwood Mac album would involve (or one of Stevie's solo albums).
It can all be very low-key... maybe she'd even release the album on an independent label, or sell the thing on an "official Christine McVie website," like a lot of other artists are doing nowadays.

Then do a couple of gigs at a local pub.... maybe a video.... and not once have to leave England.

Christine will be able to satisfy the need to create music, but wont have to compromise her desire to lead a more moderately paced lifestyle.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac will be able to fully promote their album in whatever way they see fit... and tour however long they wish to. Without having to worry about one member being less than enthusiastic about it all.

I also think that as fans, we're *really* making out on the deal... with the likelyhood of a double-album from Fleetwood Mac (which could contain approximately the amount of music as a solo album each from Stevie and Lindsey), AND a Christine McVie album with presumeably 12-14 tracks... we're pretty much getting three times more music than we might have gotten if Christine had recorded with Fleetwood Mac.
At the very least, we're going to get twice as much.

Not a bad haul, if you ask this greedy little fan!! :)

I'm with you! I'm GLAD she's gone! (Fleetwood Mac NEEDS a change...plus, as you said, MORE MATERIAL FOR US ALL!!)

Count both the Splinter Group & Rick Vito both recording & releasing new albums within the next 12 months, too...and no doubt Billy Burnette doing another project (since he seems to be on an "every other year" basis) sometime in that same timeframe...Dave Mason's constantly touring...maybe we can count on something NEW from him soon. I've read where Bob Welch is working on TWO new projects; one of new material, one is compiling a live concert CD from his "French Kiss" tour (I think from a Tokyo show)

If all this comes to fruition, we're all making out like bandits this coming 12-18 months!!

Well, I am definitely not glad about Christine not being in Fleetwood Mac anymore. But, this news more than makes up for it. I think Johnny Stew summed things up for me perfectly. I couldn't have put it any better. With the Buckingham/Nicks album, Christine album plus all of the new DVD-audio releases, this is going to be a little expensive-but I'm not complaining. In the meantime, I can't wait to hear the new music from Chris, especially since I never thought it would happen.

I agree with ChiliD that folks who are having trouble accepting that Christine wants to record without Fleetwood Mac just need to move on.

I must take issue with Johnny Stew, as I often do: I don't believe being a member of Fleetwood Mac has "always" been hectic. If it were so, we would have seen a lot more music from these folks in the last five years. However, I will grant you that it must get very hectic when they record and tour. But as we know, that is not very often.

Let's do a bit of speculation here. Why is Christine opting to record on her own but refuses to rejoin Fleetwood Mac? For one thing, she's quite clever in going into the studio as the buzz for the new Fleetwood Mac stuff gets louder. She can benefit from the hype without having to promote herself as much. Because as the band does interviews and the question of where she is keeps coming up, the music press is undoubtedly going to seek her out to learn what she's up to.

This does not bode well for Fleetwood Mac. I still think, and I disagree with ChiliD here, that some folks will get to the concerts and be disappointed that she's not there. Yes, in this age of the Internet and 24-hour news channels some people still don't have a clue about what's going on in the world.

But let's address the second part -- why she won't rejoin Fleetwood Mac. I don't know this, and I an not going to pretend that I am some big band expert with hours of research into this thing, but here's what I think: She is sick of Lindsey, Stevie and Mick. Being the most level-headed in the group, she probably couldn't take these people anymore. Lovable as they are in some ways, they must be exasperating to deal with. And I am sure she just had enough of them during The Dance tour. Halfway through, she must have said to herself: What the hell was I thinking getting together with these looonatics again.

Here's hoping she records a blues album.

[Hey, Rodeo, since our Tusk story seems to have fizzled, how about a Dance sequel?]

I like Christine's music a lot, and I was really upset when I heard she had "retired".

Therefore I'm glad that "retired" seems to have meant "retired from Fleetwood Mac" and not "completely retired".

I completely like the idea of getting a whole album's worth of Christine music PLUS a double album worth of LB and SN music....instead of the FM album divided into 3....!

As for the members of FM having "problems" with this...I think that's ridiculous....some people are acting as though LB, SN, MF and JM found out about this at the same time as we did via the same website! She may have been wanting to do this for over decade...and has probably discussed this with all 4 of them for a very long time......(I'm sure they have these things called "telephones"...!!)....Seeing as those 4 knew for a fact that CM would no longer be any part of FM since 1998 I wouldn't be surprised if they even encouraged her and are helping her out in any way they can with the idea.......I'm sure they would like to see her continue using that amazing talent as much as we would!

Right! Nothing has been said that Mick, John, Lindsey and even Stevie HAVEN'T helped out on her upcoming album (by the same token, nothing has been said that they HAVE, either)

If anyone recalls George Hawkins' Q&A here, remember him saying that she'd played him some of her new material and according to him, it had a "harder edge" than her usual material??

Fleetwood Mac doesn't really do anything low-key (especially the Rumours-era lineup)... everytime they release an album, it involves some level of a media blitz, with various and multiple press, radio, and TV interviews, photo-shoots, video-shoots, etc., etc., etc.
And even before Stevie & Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, the band would travel back and forth from the US and the UK, touring extensively, for months on end.
Hence my statement that being a member of Fleetwood Mac has "always" been hectic.

I wasn't implying that it involved a 24 hours a day, 365 days out of the year, whirlwind schedule, but when the band is recording and promoting and touring, they *do* keep a much more hectic schedule than Christine seems to want to keep now.

And whether or not they've demonstrated that fact within the past five years, we can still look to the examples of the past, as well as to the things Mick has been saying in recent interviews, that they're going to go all out on this one.

Background of Information posted.

I had contacted Ken Calliet a few times to enquire about any more Fleetwood Mac DVD-As. When he confirmed that he is mixing Tusk, The White Album and Stevie's TISL. He also said he was in London recording Christine's new solo album!!

Now since then I have tried to arrange to meet Ken to talk face to face, now Ken tried to get authorisation to play some of Christime's newest work at the recent Fleetwood Bac in London last Saturday night, but failed to make the gig and get the authority from Christine's manager.

I will try and try to get some more concrete information from Ken and let you all know as soon as I know.

Now I know a few fans are in disbelief and do not nessasarily believe this rumour, but why would Ken lead me down a phoney road. Have patience, I am sure Ken will let me/us know in due course.

Actually, I don't think they HAVE had a "hectic schedule", but I think the process of the looming media blitz/world tour is more "hectic" than Christine wants to be involved in anymore.

I don't usually post much on the Ledge. I tend to stay in the wings and observe all the interesting on-goings.
Christine is a topic that has me crawling out of the woodwork. I hope we get some more music from her and if it is a solo album, that would be just incredible. It has been a long time since the 1984 self-titled solo album. I remember in a review for that album, it was given a thumbs up and the reviewer expressed how long it took between Christine Perfect and Christine McVie (15 years) and how he hoped we wouldn't have to wait another 15 years. Well we are now on almost 18 years. I know she is worth the wait but I hope she doesn't keep us waiting forever.
Another Christine album is a welcome to me. Yeah!!!!

I'd prefer Chris with the MAc, those five together are greater than the separate sum.

Anyway, I hope Chris reasons are just about not leaving London, since I heard so. However I also read, (probably in 1998 or 99) that Stevie said (about a new album, or new tour in Europe).. something like "this time we will fix some things so Chris would be more happy" or "we will eliminate some things Chris didn't like"

My memory is not so good about that article, but that was the idea. Anyway, I repeat, I hope Chris is not angry, or at least still not angry with the band, and her reasonsare just about not leaving her home for long time

God bless Christine and the rest of the band (but I'll miss her in the new mac album!!!!!!! Ha ha!!!)
