Nikki on American Idol is singing Edge of 17 right now. Lets see how she does.

Ok here is how she did with the judges:
RJ says it was like Karoke
Paula Abdul says that it was good song and she really likes it. But it is so identified with Stevie Nicks and she IS an American Idol because she has such a distinctive voice. Yeah Paula!
Simon says (LOL) I think he said it was OK.

I really have to agree with Paula's comment. The song is just so Stevie. I think Nikki did OK in the beginning but kind of fell apart in the middle.

I'm so glad Nikki did a Stevie song, but boy it's hard to do Edge justice. It WAS pretty kareoke. I want to like her so much because of her Stevie connection, but her voice just doesn't compare to Kelly's (or Justin's, though he's not my fav. either).
Anyway, good for Nikki for singing something she loves.

those watching, she did 'Black Velvet' and after the song, she said that in defense to their 1st comments, that she thought it was an honor to perform a Stevie Nicks song b/c Stevie is her idol....
I just think it is sooo cool that she has that Stevie vibe...

I think it rocks that she is such a Stevie fan, etc......but that was a pretty kareoke version of Edge....my friend did a version of that one time, and I kept hearing it in the back of my mind....thats when I knew she wasn't doing the song justice....or at least what she COULD have done to it....I kept waiting for her to give it her own flair, or at least really TEAR into it.....but nope :( Oh well....hopefulyl she will be voted off this week.....if Kelly gets voted off, I am boycotting the show....she is the most talented by far vocally, so I think she should win....Justin does have the best stage presence though.

Oh, and what about the part where she said, "I know I sound like Stevie Nicks and all, but...." WOW....I know that is NOT what she meant...she was just trying to explain how she knew that she did a copycat version....but WOW.....when I heard that my jaw dropped. I don't think she sounds like her at all. I think she sounds JUST like the chick that sings that BLACK VELVET song....forgive me for not knowing who it is.

I agree Kristin. I really did not think she sounded like Stevie at all. The girl who sings "Black Velvet" is Alannah Myles. She is from Toronto, Canada.

She didn't do a bad job...not a great one, either. The problem is that Edge is such a Stevie signature song, that it's hard to compare.
She did a lot better with Black Velvet.
JMO, but she just didn't do that song justice. Whether she was trying to sound like Stevie or not, no one can sound like Stevie. She didn't come close. There was no feeling, no emotion, no kick. Paula was exactly right about this song.
I think Justin & Kelly were pretty good last night. Personally I favor Kelly, but with these power dialers dialing for Nikki, she'll probably end up winning.

i mean her voice was ok......but she didn't put anything into edge at all! to me, she didn't look comfortable singing that song! now black velvet was excellent! and you could tell that she was really into it and really wanted to sing that song! now if stevie is her idol and she had to pick a stevie nicks song, then y did she pick edge? y didn't she sing stand back? or.....or what? what is another song she could have sang? i think she picked the wrong song. but two thumbs up for stevie being her american idol!
mimi:)
oh and i loved paula's comment!!! STEVIE IS AN AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!

I almost had a heart attack when I heard them say that Nikki was singing Edge of Seventeen. It was a good try, but to me it sounded like she was just going through the motions. There was no emotion to that song at all! I give her credit for trying to sing that song.. it is a hard song to do justice to because it is so identified with Stevie. Paula Abdul said some really nice comments about Stevie.. I thought that was cool! I think Nikki did much better on the second song.

Nikki singing EO17 (http://www.thebeautyprocess.com/nikki/music.htm)
Same link Pip posted earlier - you can also hear Black Velvet, and everything else she's done.
Yeah, she really didn't do it justice - and it really isn't fair for the judges to say anyone does a "karaoke" version of anything, since they ARE singing to karaoke tracks. I swear that's what Nikki was singing along with, it's sounds identical to the karaoke cd I have.
Nikki is a lot less polished than the others, and it shows. She's very inconsistent, and is often flat, but with some proper vocal training, I think she'll do just fine down the road, even if she loses the competition. I read yesterday on VH1.com that Tamyra already has a deal with Simon's company, and I'm sure most everyone from the top 10 will get something...

That is sort of the mental debate I am having....while I really think that Kelly is the most talented and therefore should win the competition....I almost don't want her to win, because I feel like it might even be harder for the person labeled the AMERICAN IDOL to launch a really successful and respectable career....I guess it has a little bit of a cheese factor attached to it that wouldn't be there if she got out now and got signed by a record label before the end of the contest. I wonder....

Okay, I watched it, of course, and I thought it was a decent...KARAOKE version. I mean, Kelly and Justin both sing songs and sing them with some kind of emotion and passion, Nikki just....sings. Yeah, when she sang the ooh part, I was like, she's gonna growl right? Nope. Just..."ooh". That was IT! LOL I have to say, YEAH!! to Nikki for choosing a Stevie song, but I agree that Stand Back may have been a better choice of song for her. Black Velvet was her best performance, IMO...but, still not good enough to be AMERICAN IDOL. Sorry.
