This is odd cause there is no mention of Stevie on the Diva's page on VH1. They have only the following listed:
Cher
Celine Dion
Mary J. Blige
Shakira
The Dixie Chicks
Pip:confused:

i also keep asking myself this question- if stevie sings with celine dion, will i cease to respect her??? after all, celine dion is the mother of all evil!!!:distress:

Gee, I have mixed feelings about this.
Part of me is thrilled because Stevie is a diva, for sure.
The other part of me really, really can't see her fitting in with those other "performers"
like Cher and Celine and woo-hooing up there with them.
She is unique, and a diva all unto herself.
She's just in a class by herself.
I will wait for the official word, then just see what happens.

Hmm... ITA with those who say that they have mixed feelings about this. Stevie is so much classier than all those other performers. But it means that a lot of people are gonna get to see just how amazing she is, which is helpful considering the new album is out soon. As long as she doesn't duet with Cher or Celine Dion, I'll be happy.

I'm not being skeptical and negative.
It's just that those shows are more than a little cheesy, and they do stuff that just isn't Stevie.
I mean, can you really see her walking around with her microphone and gesturing to the other divas, and being all smoozing and lounge-acty to the audience like Cher, Celine, or Mariah, or any of the folks who have been on that in the past?
I'm not saying it can't be done, or that it she might not be good on a show like this, because goodness knows I want more folks turned on to Stevie, BUT I'm just saying that her performance style is so much different. She would need to have special consideration and be handled differently on order for it to come off well.
After all, no one will come to appreciate her if they see her in a venue that is forced, or just isn't befitting her or is unnatural to her style. She won't come off well at all, then we'll have to hear about how much she sucks and is washed up, etc...etc...
If she is handled properly by them it could be really wonderful.
I'm just saying it could go either way with these VH1 folks....
They'll need to adapt to her, not the other way around!!

It's not really a question of whether or not she will kick @ss,cause she will...but you have to admit that the line-up is a bit...unique,lol...I mean good god..how many times have Cher and Celine been on the damn thing..how many times can you be crowned a Diva??? I think VH1 should shift their view a bit and do a show more rock n' roll focused...we've had enough of Mariah and Aretha and all of them....anyway...assuming Stevie is there,it will very cool to see how she is incorporated with everyone else...

just a thought, do you think maybe they extended the invitation to Stevie to be on Diva's in order to get Sheryl???
Stevie is the only true Diva in a strict definition sense from the Rock N Roll side of music...but I got a feeling that VH1 may using Stevie to get the more current popular sensation, Sheryl. I mean, Stevie should have been on the show years ago...
if I was a promoter, and have been following either Stevie's/Sheryl current career path, I'd definetely invite one to get the other...

Oh please, no offense taken, I just think that we ALL, (me included) can get caught up in just wanting her out there doing her Stevie thing.
I want the FM album and TOUR, baby!!
and of course, I hope that means a little attention, (cough) respect, from VH1 in the way of coverage and publicity.....
They didn't promote Mick Jagger's album, or the Who Tour, or John Mellancamp, who is touring right now, so I'm not expecting too much, but Stevie did get more hype over TISL than Jagger or Mellancamp, so I should just shut up and be happy!
As far as asking Stevie to get to Sheryl, well, who knows what those suits think............Britney and Christina'll be on it next year.
(shudder, shudder) , right up there with Cher, Celine, oh, and Aretha will have to come back next year cause she wasn't there this time.
Bleck.

05-06-2002, 09:42 AM
all i can say is...about bl**dy time!
maybe the line-up is a bit cheesy but Stevie does deserve recognition and I'm sure with her own style she'll be able to out perform the rest of 'em and do something a bit more original. With people like Mary J Blige (who, admittedly is v.good IMO) getting 'diva' status already, I'm just glad Stevie can show them what being a REAL diva is all about..!
(altho I must admit, Shakira is pretty damn cool aswell!)

Sarah, all the "invite Stevie and get Sheryl as a bonus" is just in my twisted mind...there has been no official confirmation that either one will be on Diva's tho, Diva's is been known to get really big stars at the last minute...
I was just putting forth my theory about why Stevie would be invited since she has little in common with the current guest list...
so it's all my idea, my rumour :p...

I don't give two ****s about Celine's tired self indulged ass! VH1 has lost their damned mindes....I mean for cripes sake...the purpose of new shows and programing is to make things fresh and exciting! How many times do we have to hear My Hear Will Go On while she slaps herself in the chest 20 times nearly knocking her boney ass down!?!?!?
Now what I don't mind seeing (but I doubt VH1 has sense enough to try something bold)...is Stevie and Mary J! Wooodawg! Talk about something good. I think the Chicks are a decent idea..and maybe even Cher...but...why not get some new blood on that stage? Everyone but Stevie, Shakari and I think the Chicks have been on at least one Diva's if not more.
I still think Stevie and Mary J should do something wicked like No More Drama or Family Affair (is that her song the up beat tempoed one?) Or...At Last...I think they could kick ass on that one.

don't get me wrong, of course it would be great if she joins the concert, but i'm being skeptical because i can't see how she may fit this ansamble,
vh1 are so dumb, the real definition for a 'diva' is a classic performer who's larger than life with some remarkable musical achievments,
while vh1's definition is simply a preformer with a big (technicaly speaking) voice, someone who could yell.
shakira is cool and probably is here to stay, but she's got a long way ahead of her before she may deserve this honorary title.
stevie is a diva, so is debbie harry, bjork, madonna and alison moyet and so on, anastacia isn't. (or at least NOT YET)
and they have this crappy concerts going on for years there, i'm afraid stevie is sooo not what they are looking for there....
i'd love stevie to come there and kick their asses, but observing this horror there a few years now, it looks too much to ask for.:distress:

All right, I wasn't going to post this in fear of being flamed, which probably will still happen, but I'm going to post it anyway. As much as I love the idea of Stevie being on the divas' show, Stevie in the looser sense does not really match what a diva is. I think she even admits it, that she is a songwriter first, and a singer second. The reason why all of you are confused about Stevie performing with Celine Dion and Cher is because Stevie DOES do her own thing. In a way, she IS a diva, but in the sense of what VH1 wants, she's not. She's not the type to stand up there and belt out all these high notes and hitting 15 notes on one word like Christina. Those girls' voices are all over the place. Stevie doesn't do that. She's much plainer in her singing, which is not a bad thing at all. Personally I find it annoying sometimes to hear 15 notes on one word. But Stevie does just have her own style, her own sense of things. She may be dubbed a diva, but if so, it's a SPECIAL kind of diva. She's not your typical diva like Mariah and Celine, and I think that's the best way to put it. It'll be interesting to see this, if it happens.

THE DIVAS have landed Ellen DeGeneres, and she will host their "VH1 Divas Las Vegas" show airing live May 23. Ellen knows how to have fun, so this is a great choice! Stevie Nicks and the international star Anastacia have also joined the lineup. You already know that Cher, Mary J. Blige, the Dixie Chicks, Celine Dion and Shakira are set to sing.

Mixed emotions about this!!!
Now I'm thrilled at the prospect of Stevie being on this show (I have been known to mutter "Those idiots at VH1 wouldn't know a real diva, queen of it all, if she slapped them right in the face--where's the good talent on these shows??!!!!" and "Why is Stevie never on one of these big specials--why don't they give her all the recognition she deserves!!!!!"), since TONS of people will be watching this show, as they do every year.......so, it's great for Stevie.....exposure.....showing everybody EXACTLY how it's done!!!!
But, I do agree that she doesn't exactly fit in with some of these other people........but then, neither did Elton John, considering he's, well, male..........and really, Dixie Chicks don't really fit into this category either.........
How about we petition VH1 to just call this show Interesting Music Night Live on VH1!!!!!!!! LOL
And the using Stevie to get to Sheryl thing--totally bogus.........Sheryl's not even on the schedule (as of yet!)........but I just did not like that comment......it was so wrong.......she deserves honors such as this......and can get them because of her own merit and because she's so awesome and wonderful.....I am really just at a loss at how to respond to this comment......
Anyway, this should prove to be interesting. Can't wait to see!!!

And this is kind of an early promotion for the new FM album too in a way, so that's cool in my book. ....well...you know...I couldn't be more happy...it's really not like Stevie to be on something like this, so I really do hope it's true..but it's great...She'll socialize with types we Never see her with!! :woohoo:
Stevie's too humble to be a Diva as they are, but she's one in her own right, and it's about time she be recognized!! If Sheryl goes on fine, but probably not because VH1 made Stevie ask her...hehe...but I guess you never know
I want to second the nomination for At Last...I've been dying for her to perform it again, and this would be the type of show to do it at...It's soo powerful and her voice is so "Diva-like" when she does it, so I think it'd be perfect...and then she can REALLY show them how it's done! :)

I agree with everyone who thinks it's cool  , but wierd at the same time  , because when I think of Divas Live, I think female singers who are up there trying to outsing each other, you know the whole "loooo-oooooo--oooooooo--oooooooooo---veeeeee!!!" Stretching out a one syllable word for like an HOUR! LOL That is what Aretha, Celine, Mariah, etc, were doing on one of those shows, trying to outdo. Stevie does NOT sing like that, she's got her own way of doing stuff, like the GDW and Edge growling, quivering thingy she does! LOL So, this will be veddy interestink!

Boy, did I have a good laugh earlier this morning about what you said about Celine! ITA; it's not hormones! (LOL)
I saw the promo for Divas Live, but didn't see that Stevie was going to be on this. I just groaned when they showed Celine, & I'm thinking, I'm not watching this. Then this morning I got on nicksfix.com before I came here, & they said that Stevie was going to be on. Now I've got to watch this. I don't really think of Stevie as a diva. I know there has been a discussion about who a diva is on here before. When I think of a diva, I think of Diana Ross, definitely Celine, maybe Mariah Carey, probably Whitney Houston, not Cher, not Aretha Franklin & definitely not Stevie. So I've got mixed feelings about seeing Stevie on this type of show. I'm glad I'll get to see her, but if she does a duet with Celine, I will become ill!
Lee :)
VH1: What does it mean to you to be a diva?
Cher: Someone asked me on the red carpet at VH1 Divas Live 1999, "What does the word 'diva' mean?" I said, "Well, I think of it like an opera star. You think of those people as divas." He said, "What do you think about modern-day women who call themselves divas?" I said, "Well, they are like singing bitches that you can't get along with. I don't want to be one". He said, "Well, why are you doing this show?" Because that's the name of the show? It's just a bunch of girls getting together & singing. The idea that you're a diva just doesn't fit.
You go Cher!

It was weird like one miuate i was thinking hey woundnt it be great if stevie was on that divas live thing and then I tun on the tube and all i hear is " and stevie Nicks and then wayne newton says some dumb thing. and i comletly spazzed and people gave me **** cause they always do about my ummm..healthy obsrsion with stevie/mac. While anyways I went to the VH1 sight and was like OMG! how can they put stevie on the same caliber as some of the so called "Diva's" yea cher personality wise is a diva bt shes so annoying and untalented hey mabey sheill lipsinc song for the lonley like she did for believe a few years back. Celine is just the spaun of the devil but I hope Ana Gayster from SNl will come on the show and make do her impression, ahh that would be great. Shakira has had one big single and one that was kinda ignored how the hell is She a Diva well she does have one thing the big Diana Ross Hair. the dixie chicks yea their kinda fun to watch but Divas? I think not. Anastasia i dont know alot about her other than that she once preformed saturday nights alright for fighting with Elton John and that she is really really HOT!!!!. Well and then theirs Stevie who will without a doubt steal the show even if they only let her duet with Natalie on too far from texas and mabey let her do something to get the croud going by herself like Stand Back, or EO17 or one of her fast moving sig. songs. anyways I cant wait to see stevie preform I saw her sing sorcer with cheryl on her vh1 concert and that was pretty good so the way things have been going for Stevie she should be totally awesome and this will definatley help to promte the new mac album/tour.

I could TOTALLY see Stevie and Cher singing this song together, it's perfect! "Dark Lady laughed and danced and lit the candles one by one...danced to her gypsy music 'til her brew was done."
Since the commercials are promoting Stevie as a "special guest," I wouldn't expect to see her much. This is really Cher's show - she's the one w/ a new album out and according to what Cher said on Oprah, this may very well be her last tour. I wouldn't be surprised if Stevie only does 2 songs.
I would LOVE to see Stevie do "At Last," too, but I think that was a one-time thing, considering the circumstances of that benefit - that all the women there sang old songs.
I'm begging for a new outfit!!! I don't even care if it's black, as long as it's something we've never seen. And whatever she does, I hope she rocks, as opposed to doing a ballad. But in any case, I'm always happy to see Stevie do anything!!
Just my 2 cents!

if there is a god in heaven and fairness on earth, she will sing 'take me home' or 'bang bang' with cher, and then do 'fall from grace' solo, and this whole thing will happen right at the concert's beginning, so that i won't suffer any permanent brain damage as a result of being exposed to celine dion while waiting for her to show up. :distress:
