So, what's your favorite song that Stevie didn't write or help write?
Mine would have to be Stop Draggin My Heart Around, great song, and Tom barely sings on it, yeah!! LOL Sorry, but I've never liked his voice.
I'd have to say that my favorite is " Some Become Strangers" I just love that song.

it's Battle of the Draggon. I'm ashamed she can't say she wrote it.
Did she write any of "Battle of The Dragon"? In the lyrics page it list her first with 2 other writers. I always assumed she wrote it. If she didn't then I would have to change my previous choice and pick Battle of the Dragon also.

My favorite one right now is Talk To Me. I really like that song and I have a live version from the House of Blues '94 that I absolutely love!

Hey rhiannon1119, I have the live version of Talk To Me also from the House of Blues and I have to say that this version just blows the original away. I wish that she would sing that song in concert. It is strange that she didnt write that song because it sounds so much like her.
Karen do you know where I can get that House of Blues version of Talk to Me? Audiogalaxy is not an option for me,my husband is a computer tech, and he thinks it will corrupt his precious system.:distress:

Dar, I can make a copy of the cd for you if you want. It wont take me long to do and I just bought some new cd'rs.
Tracklisting: (I Think)
Edge of seventeen (killer 13:50 minute version of this song)
Stand Back - this version also rocks
Rhiannon - very good
Destiny - I never liked this song until I heard it on this cd. The harmonizing that Stevie, Sharon and Lori do on this song is amazing.
Talk To Me - you just gotta hear this one because stevie gives it her all.
Just send your address to me at
[email protected] and I will send you the cd.

I'm so relieved that she wrote "Battle of the Dragon" b/c I absolutely love that song!
So, my fave would have to be "It's Only Love". Although, I do love "Some Become Strangers".

Edge of seventeen (killer 13:50 minute version of this song)
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. While it is a good performance as Edge of 17 always is, the tempo on this one is too slow. It almost sounds like Stevie is trying SO hard to slow down and keep in time with the drums. However, the rest of this show IS excellent. Rhiannon is almost as good as it was during the early tours. Stand Back she keeps wailing on, instead of just the lower notes on the second, "To be standing in a line," she belts out the higher harmony I believe all three times, and it's great. Outside the Rain is excellent, Dreams is, well, Dreams. Destiny is nice, I just miss the "Aaaaaaall goooooooooooone, nothing left at all..." part in the end. Talk to Me I love because it doesn't end with "All the way back hoooooooome" the first time, instead she just says "All the way back home" and I don't know, just the way it sounds with the music is good. She also does ok versions of The Chain (yes, The Chain solo Stevie) and I Need to Know. The thing that baffles me is that I have an mp3 on here that says "Blue Denim Live House of Blues 1994," yet it's not on the bootleg. It's not too great anyway...Stevie sounds flat in a couple of places on this song, although she wails the end of it. All in all, this boot is a MUST HAVE, especially since the sound quality is so good too.
In any case, I've gotten so far off track with the topic of this thread. Sorry about that. I have to say, and I "wonder" if anyone will change their answer after I say this, Seven Wonders is my favorite song Stevie didn't write. Now I know she technically HELPED write it, but she only added that one line because she misheard the lyrics. So I don't count it. My other favorites that Stevie didn't write include Sometimes It's a Bitch, Stop Draggin', Love's a Hard Game to Play, and yes, murder me now, Docklands. While the beginning of Docklands seems absolutely absurd, I still love this song. It's really a great car song, I love singing it going down the road. Plus, until I had seen Docklands was not written by Stevie, I thought it was. Again, that beginning is very strange, but it's just so...Stevie. That ambiguous confusing type of thing, I don't know. My xanax is kicking in, so this post shall end. :wavey:

I guess I really like "Insider" or "Docklands" the best, but I don't have a list of all the songs she didn't write in front of me.
"Docklands" is probably my favorite -- I can never get too much "Docklands." Morning, noon, & night, "Docklands," "Docklands" & more "Docklands."

if this poll was considering songs that Stevie sings on but that she didnt write and aren't on her albums, I would definately say "Insider" from Tom Petty's "Pack Up The Plantation-Live!" album...Brian

"Insider'is awesome but not sure if I can include it since she is really just singing harmony on it.Along with 'Stop Dragging my Heart Around I'd have to go with "Seven Wonders' her last truly great song on a Fleetwood Mac studio lp but that could change in the near future.

Talk to Me. First song I ever heard by Stevie. Love it.
but let's not forget Stevie's version of Free Fallin' from the Party of Five soundtrack. She sounds so totally incredible on this. Leave it to Petty to inspire Stevie, but I think she one-upped him on this one.

Talk to Me. First song I ever heard by Stevie. Love it.
Talk to Me is what turned me into a Stevie fan, and it sounds like she wrote it.
I Will Run to You also sounds like she could have written it, and is a favorite.
Seven Wonders is great! I believe she only wrote the part at the end, the part she sings while the others are singing the chorus. Sandy Stewart may have been feeling generous when she let Stevie get a credit on that song!
I Still Miss Someone is bittersweet and wistful.
Sometimes It's a Bitch holds up well.

Its threads like these that shows how different each of us Stevie fans are. And I say that because its a good thing. When I read that Talk To Me sounds like Stevie wrote the song sounds so out of this world to me. I could never imagine Stevie being that bubbly super positive person to hound someone to talk to them when they are down. Boo hoo! Talk to Me is nails down a chalk board to me
Sorry, just had to get that in ;)
My song is Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind. I was in love in 1994 and I just fell for this song and in the state of mind I was in, it felt like I wrote the song. Stevie sung it from the heart which is hard to do with someone else's song.
I also would say Sometimes Its A Bitch just because the lyrics are so cool and loved hearing Stevie sing "Bitch." And I think the lyrics pretty much summed up Stevie's life up to that point.

See I thought her vocal was half-hearted and ruined Maybe Love. It sounded like she wasn't committed to it.

I love Maybe Love a lot, too. Very melodic and soothing, even. But Macfan4life, I want to defend or advocate for Talk to Me a little bit. I think you'll agree that Stevie sings the hell out of Talk to Me, and the nature of the song lets her. It's very anthemic and I really related to the lyrics. "Is it all that hard, is it all that tough? Well I've shown you all my cards, now isn't that enough? You can't hide your hurt, but there's something you can do... you can talk to me, when you're down now." As a kid in junior high school when this song came out, I BELIEVED Stevie when she said those words, and they helped get me through a lot of hard times. A lot of Rock a Little featured lyrics that showcased Stevie as a fairy godmother type giving advice. Besides Talk to Me, there was Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, Imperial Hotel, and If I Were You. "You can break those bounds 'cause you're safe with me. You can lose your doubt, baby you'll find no danger here." I believed Stevie accepted me no matter what, and this song cemented that idea for me.

Nice try but you have not convinced me :)
I was a worshipping Stevie cult member in 1985 who paced back and forth for years waiting for Rock A Little to be released. Even the review in my local paper (Pittsburgh Press) gave Rock A Little a mostly positive review but called 2 songs odd balls Rock A Little and Talk To Me.
IMHO Talk to Me is the cheeziest of all Stevie songs except maybe Every day.
I could tell instantly something was wrong. This is a song Stevie would never write. She never wrote of telephones in songs and I could not picture her sitting watching a phone ring. I could never picture Stevie as a cheerleader prancing telling begging and giving inspiration to someone to talk to her because they are down. Boo hoo. I mean really. Where is the magical Stevie writing of broken, mystical love? Talk to me is the cheeziest pop song of 1985 and its sad that Stevie had to sing it. Its why Stevie will never do the song live.
Its so wimpy. I don't think its a particularly strong vocal either. I think the live versions of the song are way better than the studio version.

Ahem... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQWlI8e8J4Y ;)
I could definitely see Stevie waiting on a guy (Joe Walsh, for example) and pleading with him to open up and let her in. That seems like just the type of project that would occupy her more romantic inclinations!
While Talk To Me does not sound to me like something Stevie could write (the chorus is far too poppy IMHO and I don't know if she could be so diplomatic towards her lover, lyrically speaking) I'd hardly call it on the level of Every Day. :p

Although I like Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind, it's pretty cheesy. Stevie doesn't seem like the kind of person who would sit around trying to figure out "oh,what words would keep you here." I still like it, but it's easy to see why it was a flop.
