He just posted this video where he explains why he left the band in 1987, mentioning they were at their worst, collectively and individually, including some other details we already know and commented.

I understand that all that(Tango) precedent generated his extreme sense of freedom with OOTC, so no surprise that the result of that was a great album; it's no wonder it's my favorite and the only Mac member solo album that I enjoy listening to in its entirety. But I'm always left wondering, why did it take 5 years? Even considering how much of a perfectionist he is, it seems like a long time.

He had to write all that material. He doesn't strike me as a particularly facile songwriter.

Well remember he was working on a solo album when “ Fleetwood Mac called him back to make a band album” So a very fine line between his songs on Tango and his tracks on OOTC. He obviously doesn’t speak to that on this clip.

Big Love and Caroline were his solo songs that were going to be on his next solo album. But when the Mac came calling he chose to put them on Tango. You can hear those songs are very solo sounding.
Can you imagine the stuff Lindsey could say if he wanted to. He says how bad they were but never gives examples of the antics or insanity they put him through.
We want the juicy details!!!

He’s not a songwriter. He’s a stylist.

Ok now I'm lost. Please define stylist, cause when I read it I think of Vidal Sassoon.

He does more with........ creating unique sounds for songs, than actually writing a plain, killer song.

Tusk and Big Love are perfect examples. They're more about THE SOUND of the song, than the song itself.
