View Full Version : Lindsey reacts to Tusk

I enjoy these but I think I may not watch them anymore. Lindsey does not remember major songs or issues in his life. Last year Lindsey said he had no memory of turning all the dials in one direction as quoted in Ken's book. Then Lindsey cannot remember what his signature concert staple "I'm so afraid" is about. He guessed it was about his break up with Stevie except it was written years before that. Tusk is his baby which is so proud of yet he has no memory of what Tusk means or why the song is called Tusk.

***Sigh***
Turn the page

I am fascinated with this era of the band because it was like nothing before. Its the album where they were superstars and their egos were in full bloom. All of their dating life was off the charts and while Rumours had them breaking up, the Tusk era is when they started to get on each other's nerves. More drugs than Rumours. I loved hearing Stevie talk about how recording Tusk was like nothing she had experienced before. The studio became this Tusk like dark cave where they spent a good chunk of a year. Christine was with Dennis. Mick dumped Stevie. Stevie was dating lots of guys including one of the sound engineers which pissed off Lindsey. It was the end of an era too. Last album before the 1980s and the solo careers. People like to talk about the craziness of the Rumours recording but Tusk said hold my beer.

I agree. He often likes to answer I don’t know. Ok, he may not remember John was sailing in the ocean (according to Mick) the day at the stadium. But doesn’t he know why the name Tusk? Really? Even if it was Mick’s idea, I can’t believe he doesn’t remember. Did he really remember it and was he ashamed to talk about it? I don't think so, we're adults and too old for that. I don’t get it, pretty weird.

The title refers to a jocular term of affection for the male member: old habits die hard in Fleetwood Mac.
Obviously, Mick was referring to Harold, although if it was Lindsey who named the song, I don't know if it had any relation to that... toy.

Of all things not to remember. The album he is most proud of and had the lead single off the album. Glad he remembered it was Mick's idea to add a marching band. He does not even remember the origins of the jam. Is it not how the band would warm up and eventually morphed into Tusk? I swear you can learn more about Tusk from Stevie than Lindsey and that is crazy!

In Mick's book he wrote that Stevie threatened to leave the band if the album was called Tusk.

Lastly, they both watched the entire Tusk video and no comments on Stevie's baton twirling? SMH

I always figured that a lot of their confusion stems from the fact that they don't obsess over dates, songs, quotes and details like we as fans have done, they don't dig for the information and keep it in their brains like a little treasure. For them, it was something that happened, possibly while they were drunk or stoned lol, they moved on and it's questionable as to whether it stuck in the brain or not. And of course they are getting older on top of that.

It's frustrating that they don't remember more, but not particularly surprising. In my opinion.

I think he didn’t want to say to his son why Tusk was called Tusk.
What the word Tusk actually referred to in their, Fleetwood Mac’s context..

“Oh yes, we called this song, and Album btw, after the nickname for Mick’s d*ck”

I’m sure his son knows anyway.

I doubt it. Do we think his son has studied every word that ever came out of their mouths, like we do? Unlikely, IMO.

I know Mick's book is not 100% reliable, but it's more fun than "I don't know!"

It started as a riff we used to play when we took the stage and the lights went off and we were being announced, right before our first number. It was our way of having a live sound check so Richard Dashut could set his levels. It was just a little riff that Lindsey started playing one night, and I'm tapping my drums. We used to play it in the dark for less than a minute every night. When we began the new album we tried doing something with it, but the idea was scrapped. Months and months went by, but that riff just would not leave my head. One night Richard Dashut assembled a twenty-second tape loop of this four-bar riff. A bunch of us physically held the tape loop aloft in the studio so it wouldn't sag as we dubbed it from one twenty-four-track recorder to another. Then we sped it up, I did some overdubs, and we had a
basic track.

The next day I was at home, thinking about "the rift," and my memory returned to my visit to Barfleur in Normandy the previous summer.

One Sunday morning I had been awakened (with a serious hangover) by the raucous music of the village brass band, which was circling through the town blaring away in honor of the festival of the local saint. I tried to get back to sleep after the band had passed, to no avail. Just when I thought they had stopped for half an hour, back they came roaring through the village again. It became clear there was to be no relief, so I got up and opened the shutters onto a wonderful scene by
Brueghel: old peasants with bloodshot noses, young women garbed in colorful local costume, kids running around, drunks staggering after the band, the village all garlanded and festooned, everyone having a grand time a la fe^te.

Now, back in Los Angeles, I had a brainstorm. What was music all about anyway? Here was this brass band that was the catalyst for the village, bringing old and young together, playing and laughing. Why not try to recreate this ambience at Fleetwood Mac shows, with local brass bands, maybe from the high schools, playing "the riff" at every stop on the tour? We could bring the intimacy of the village fete with us as we traveled around the world.

That, in any event, was the basic idea. One day in the studio I volunteered to pay for a marching band to record this riff. In a typical burst of grandiosity, I said I wanted to go for an immense wall of sound, that I wanted to record the band in Dodger Stadium. Silence. They looked at me as if I were mad. Someone murmured that this idea was a little off the wall. Dark mutterings that old Fleetwood had gone round the bend on this one. Then Judy Wong, bless her, said she knew someone at Dodger Stadium.

Did you find the part where Mick says Stevie threatened to leave the band over the title "Tusk."?
The idea was crazy especially with a marching band and Dodger Stadium. I believe Mick also said he wanted to bring a local band in each city they toured in to play Tusk with them. It's just would be impossible which is why it did not happen. Its drugs, its experimental, and part insanity.
When Lindsey's son brought up the crowd noise at the beginning I wish Lindsey clarified like where it came from and why it was put in.
If you remember Mick lived out a fantasy of smoking a joint in the dugout of Dodger Stadium. I think if Lindsey really did remember he would have told his son. I see him authentic as not remembering and his son really wanting to know. His kids provoke him, make fun of him, and sometimes ask good questions.

.

Yes. Also the explanation of John's absence. I guess they learned about the whale episode after the Dodger day. I would remember if that happened to a friend, but perhaps Lindsey wouldn't connect that to the day of filming at the stadium. Unlikely, but not impossible.

That's how "Tusk" was recorded. The title refers to a jocular term of affection for the Male Member: old habits die hard in Fleetwood Mac. When Stevie heard that we had decided to name the album Tusk, she threatened to quit the band in revulsion. But I chose to ignore her and nothing ever came of it.

Incidentally, the film that documents this Dodger Stadium event shows only the fully costumed marching band and four members of Fleetwood Mac. Iohn McVie is represented by a life-sized photo of himself mounted on board, which l-dutifully carried around under my arm as we changed location around the ballpark. This was because the studio-loathing McVie had played his bass parts early in the process, and then set sail in the broad blue Pacific. He set out for Hawaii with three friends on his ketch; none of the four sailors could use a sextant. Following th e jet contrails, they made a perfect landfall straight into the channel at Maui. While we were actually recording at the stadium, John and eight other lads headed for Tahiti, thirty-five days at sea. One clear night, stars you could read by, shooting stars everywhere, total peace and quiet on the smooth downwind run, dolphins cruising alongside... suddenly the whole boat tipped sickeningly. Twenty-eight tons, almost keeled over. In the cabin people were on the floor, smashed crockery everywhere. They'd been rammed by a whale! At Tahiti the boat was hauled and they found a huge ding in the transom. Fleetwood Mac had almost lost Mr. McVie.

Imagine all the drama in the studio with Stevie threatening to leave the band in back to back albums. She threatened to walk if the shacking up line stayed for Rumours and threatened to walk if the album was called Tusk. And this is stuff we know so imagine the times and things we don't know.
Imagine if they said, ok bye!

Did she? I read in several sources she was very upset, it was torturous to sing it live, there was conflict, etc. but can't remember she threatened to leave the band because of that line.

I think it’s probably a combination of things mentioned.

I think it’s clear we are seeing some ‘age’ issues. But also LB has always been pretty PG in interviews for years. In addition he probably isn’t aware of some of the details anyway.

I’m sure he’s well aware where the basic sonic parts of the track came from, but didn’t understand that was the question, I think he was locked in on the name, and he wasn’t going to say that online.

Lindsey has never been a fan of the ‘tell all’ aspect of things. I think he enjoys showing his kids this stuff which they seem to have very little knowledge of…which blows my mind.

Yes, I remember what Mick wrote about that line, it was within the L&S breakup explanation.

Stevie and Lindsey broke up as well. To this day, I don't really know how it happened. I remember that Stevie went into the session" for the new album as a single lady, as did Chris. At the time, she said something in a joking way about Lindsey being more interested in his guitar than he was in her, and she got tired of it and left. There was some conflict, I recall, about the "crackin' up, shackin' up" line in "Go Your Own Way," which Stevie felt was unfair and Lindsey felt strongly about. Much later, Stevie made her perspective clear to me: ~

"Suppose Lindsey wasn't playing well on a particular song or something," she said. "As his girlfriend, I should be a comfort to him, right? You know: 'Who cares about it? You're great anyway!' I mean, that's what old ladies do for their men, right? But I couldn't, because I was also frustrated and saying, 'Look, if you could just get your guitar part tight, we could put the vocal on.' I'd be pissed off at him too. There was no way we could get any comfort from each other about what went on in the band. There was no love, because everybody was too nervous. And while we were traveling all the time, none of us had other friends to talk to...."

Stevie has also said that the relationship between her and Lindsey was already a bit rocky when they joined the band. As Stevie started to express herself more, as she became a star, things didn't get any better.

These were the less-than-ideal conditions under which Fleetwood Mac began to record our next album. People who knew us were agog. After all, it isn't so unusual for a couple in a band to break up. But both couples? And me? It was ironic. We were all in a state of total weirdness. We needed to be apart from each other in the worst way, but at the same time we had to work together. We were trying to let go personally and cling to each other professionally at the same time.

Breaking up the band was never even discussed. It was never an option. We just carried on. I can't remember one moment when it was suggested we not carry on.

Now I remember the crackin' up, shackin' up line does not appear in the GYOW Early Take included in the Rumours Deluxe. He added it later. It would be interesting to know the sequence in which they started playing the songs during the album recording, to know when each of them heard the other's song. Was Dreams before GYOW? Or vice versa? Which came before or after SS? Even NGBA, which, although Lindsey implied in 1997 that it was about a different relationship, may not have been understood that way during the sessions.

At this point, yes we're tired of this drama. Maybe they don't have to tell us, but they should tell the screenwriters, as it would make the bio miniseries more accurate.

I recall that we have an audience-made tape of GYOW at a December 1975 show (City Park, New Orleans), which was a few months before they even got to Sausalito. Allegedly, they spent some time rehearsing or recording in Miami in 1975, where they pulled GYOW together enough to try performing it.

Stevie didn’t start writing Dreams until they were at the Record Plant, so it must have come later than GYOW.

If GYOW was written and performed by 1975 reveals they broke up making The White album and their relationship was all but over by Rumours. Stevie got jealous and angry that Lindsey wrote World Turning together without her. GYOW appears to be written in real time about the break up. Dreams appears to be post break up along with the revenge of Silver Springs. But the soap opera of Rumours was not really about break ups but about working with ex's post break up. Since the 1975 and 1976 tour was long when was it they were no longer sharing a room? Or they never shared a hotel room on that tour since their relationship was over when the album was released. We need to know these details!!! Maybe the tour before the album's release they were still together but after the album's release it was over?

Yes, Mick wrote that "Stevie has also said that the relationship between her and Lindsey was already a bit rocky when they joined the band". And since Dreams was written during their time at the Record Plant, definitely GYOW was written before.

Now my uncertainty is... was the "crackin' up, shackin' up" line was added to the song before of after Lindsey heard Dreams? I guess if I ask Lindsey about it, he will answer... I don't know!

lol we do need to know these details but i'm not holding my breath. trying to figure out the break up timelines of both couples is very confusing because nothing was cut and dry. Both were back and forth a lot and i don't think an angry song defines a definite end to a relationship, just emotions expressed about yet another rough patch, and a knowledge that things are really breaking down.

I think S&L were having issues and may have separated for a bit in 75 but still been involved enough with each other to feel as if they truly "broke up" later on. They could easily have been sleeping together at beginning of rumours and then not towards the end. for J&C it was the reverse.

I feel like nothing w these people is black and white... for example, just because a couple wasn't sharing a room on the rumours tour doesn't mean they weren't still in bed in one of their rooms at some point. Are you broken up if you're not sharing a room but still sleeping together sometimes? Or if you're seeing other people but still occasionally having a shag because there are still feelings between you and the person is there in your face all the time and opportunities present themselves?

These questions apply to both couples. and after all this time i doubt any of the individuals could pinpoint the exact timeline of their "break up", because the splits were long and boundaries were... flexible. :)

No, I don't think peter was ever credited, but world turning was def based off his song, they just rehashed the chords a bit.

Stevie has said she was very jealous that lindsey wrote world turning with chris, I guess because they seemed to collaborate so well without the "friction" that could exist between L&S.

Her issue was jealousy. She said herself that Lindsey never sat down and wrote a song with her and suddenly she sees him writing and creating a song without her. All those years together they never wrote together. She was never included on the track either and while its not really a duet its a back and forth. Must of driven her nuts.
Since you have the book out. My memory is shaky. I seem to remember Lindsey confronting Mick about Stevie while they were smoking a joint together.

On that first tour of the new band, we were staying at the original Holiday Inn, the oldest one, somewhere in Texas. It was a dump. I ended up in Lindsey's room after the gig. It was the first time I ever sat around and got stoned with Lindsey, man to man. We were just hanging around, and got to talking. I had stopped smoking years before, and needless to say I got hammered on this joint we shared. Remember, this is in the earliest days of the new band. We're both sitting there, and straight out of the blue he turned to me and said, "It's you and Stevie, isn't it?"

I was in terrible condition, but I remember this hitting my psyche like a bolt of lightning. I really didn't understand. I could only stammer, "Whaddaya mean?" But he didn't really answer. It merely appeared to him that there was something between me and Stevie Nicks. The moment passed, and it was never mentioned again.

But it was during the Rumours tour when the affair started.

BTW, I love this irked Stevie in the first clip claiming the shacking up line WAS NOT TRUE. Stevie says the songs Lindsey wrote about her were "Horrifying"

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWXHNv9qeNk/

This picture is from my favorite interview (circa 2013) when they talk for the twelve hundredth time about that line. I've not found the complete video but I remember she complained about it, as usual, and then Lindsey said he added the line as a joke and Stevie says Yes, veeery funny. And then Mick and Lindsey laugh.

Lindsey was smart enough to see it was going to happen. I remember when I first read that in the book back in 1990 that during the first tour the sleeping around was already starting. It was sort of funny but crazy that Lindsey's new girlfriend looked similar to Stevie and Lindsey brought her to the Grammy awards and plopped her down in a seat with the band. Lindsey plays mind games and I think this is what broke Stevie with her firing him. She really thought that silly dance was some sort of joke on her because she has PTSD from all the craziness between them. He put that shacking up line in later on because he knew it would humiliate her.

But why play mind games after so many years? he just wanted to mess w her head? were they 15? I don't know if believe they had any great emotional connection or closeness by then. I never heard anything that backs that up.

There are a few odd theories as to why stevie had him fired... she was soo hurt because he wouldn't sing that ridiculous Borrowed song w her.. she was tired of waiting for him to leave his wife and was pissed when he showed up w the family.. i mean come on. They were adults who have plenty of money. If they wanted to screw around and/or be together, they would have found a way to make it happen. but the truth according to what I have heard, was simply that they did not get alongggggg.

What i DID hear from a very good source was that stevie was prob in bed w mike campbell. After tom died, she wanted him in the band and knew that wasn't gonna happen with lindsey still there. and she was plotting that months before the musicares "smirk" fiasco. there was no smirk. she was just sick of LB.

The $64,000 question is did Lindsey ever propose to her?

If not, his whining over the years about her breaking things off is unwarranted. If a man is with a woman for that long without proposing then HE is the one interested in nothing more than "shacking up."

If on the other hand Lindsey proposed marriage and Stevie declined while continuing to stay with him (or if she preemptively told him she had no interest in marrying him), then "shacking up's all you want to do" is a simple statement of fact.

If he waited until 1976 to propose and she broke it off when he did, then perhaps it's ambiguous when it comes to the line, but regardless Lindsey still waited too long to propose to have any grounds to complain about her leaving him.

Wow we have major cultural differences. Where I come from "shacking up" is more sexually suggestive than just living together. The way its used in the song implies he is leaving (packing up) because all she wants to do is have sex. I don't see any relation to marriage but I understand different parts of the country or world have different phrases. I dont think Stevie would of been angry if the line was about not getting married or living together.

We're generally on the same page. They weren't living together as roommates, so by implication I'm referring to wanting sex and nothing more.

The line in the song aside, when he whines about Stevie leaving him in 1976 I've long found myself yelling at Lindsey through the screen. "Did you ever propose?! If not, what on earth are you complaining about? Why would you expect her to stick around?"

If you say your source is reliable, I believe you. But honestly, I find that story hard to believe. She wanted him in the band??? What band? Just a tour band in 2018? Because if I remember correctly, she didn't want any more Mac studio albums. And that "present band" lineup ended the tour in 2019 and it has not been consistently active since. And that was it. And I think it was a Neil interview where he said Stevie complained during rehearsals because they didn't play like Lindsey did, or anything like that. So I'd understand she wanted Mike in the band just to sleep with him. On first thought, hard to believe. But, well, it's Stevie Nicks. I think L&S simply didn't get along anymore, or again, whatever.

I think we should ask her (or actually both) if proposing is really important in a relationship. Because I know many couples who have never married, live together, still love each other for years, and have built a life together. Without needing a ring. I also know couples where the proposal and marriage are indeed important.

But talking about that, I'm sure that if there was a proposal, that ring would be worth millions at auction.

If a reporter stays clear of their private lives, that's one thing. But those that haven't done so over the years have been derelict in not asking about marriage proposals, commitment, plans they had to stay together over the long term, and so on. It's been more or less the same questions and answers every time.

As to the above, for these purposes you can substitute a mutually agreed and understood long term commitment for marriage as such. I personally don't consider it the same but I understand others do and that's fine.

My main point is there's no such thing as a boyfriend and girlfriend "dating" for 5-6 years. You're either in a committed relationship with a view toward staying together over the long term or you are effectively saying "This will do for the time being." Unless a man asked for the former arrangement and the woman said no, it is not reasonable for him to complain about her not sticking around under the latter one.

well yeah, exactly, they didn't get along. So i guess she was looking for other options. Even if FM was by then just a touring band, she prob just didn't want to do any of that with lindsey and preferred the idea of doing it with mike. (screwing included lol.) i mean she had the chance to actually be part of the 'working band' when they did the buckvie album and wanted no part of it. perhaps they COULD HAVE BEEN a band that did more as the Rumours five line up, but she didn't wanna pursue that. (and this fan theory that she was sooo jealous of chris working with LB, or that she was angry that they called the album Buckingham McVie because it was like a dig at the Buckingham Nicks album seem kind of farfetched to me. I mean stevie knew the relationship between chris and lindsey was based on their musical collaboration. why would she have been jealous of her?)

But imo it seems quite feasible that if she were only going to participate on the tour, then i guess she wanted to improve the FM touring experience for herself. Neil wasn't the one she had wanted in, and she didn't know him well, so maybe she had this issue of "not playing like how LB would have" mainly with him..?

i could def believe this source that heard she was sleeping w mike... the idea doesn't seem far outside the realm of things that could happen lol. but as w everything, the only people that know for sure are the people who were or were not in bed together.

1. Highly doubtful she was sleeping with Mike. I read the Warren Zanes biography of Tom Petty. Mike and his wife are very close. Mike insisted on taking her on the road, even though it caused tension with the other band members. I wouldn't be surprised if he brought her along on the FM tour.

2. Stevie's issue was with Mike playing longer solos than Lindsey did. I don't remember the source (I probably read it here), but she specifically said Lindsey played fewer bars in certain sections of songs than Mike did.

Refers to Stevie..…wanting to break up (pack up), and then shacking up with whoever.

Lindsey and Stevie had been in a long term relationship so to me “shacking up” doesn’t refer to them…..no matter if they were at it like rabbits .
A long term relationship isn’t shacking up.

Well at least Lindsey does remember the USC Marching Band was Mick’s idea. And it was Judy Wong who made the video at Dodger Stadium possible.

Ha!
I forget exactly how the University of Southern California's Trojan Marching Band was chosen to play the part of the village band on the album. I went to one of the marching band's meetings, played them a tape of "the rift," and asked if they could manage an arrangement. The kids liked the idea. The band director, Dr. Bartz, came over to our studio a few days later, and gradually my village band came to life.

That’s my take, as well, Sue.

We talk about a breakup in that relationship, but there were clearly at least half a dozen breakups, and some of them apparently predated joining Fleetwood Mac. They were both really a mess, and they joined Fleetwood Mac in early 1975 on what was already a very rocky road.

In 1994, on tour, some of you probably remember how she introduced the song “Destiny” as a song she wrote in 1973 when she left Los Angeles and Lindsey and drove to the Bay Area, where she fell in love with somebody, so seriously in fact that she considered staying with him in San Francisco and permanently ditching Lindsey (and Buckingham Nicks). As she put it, “I had to make a decision.” It was destiny, then, to return to LA and continue the struggles.

That's a really interesting take that I never thought about before. Lindsey was taking a swipe at Stevie's cheating rather than taking a swipe at her always just wanting sex with him. That could explain why it came so late in the song. Their relationship was over and he knew she played the field.

I'm sure Stevie remembers the title meaning, too. But she prefers to give it another connotation, as demonstrated in this 2025 interview.

“And again, we were having serious relationship problems during Tusk, but when we went into that studio and saw those tusks, and all the amazing stuff we collected and brought in every day, we became part of a world that was fantastic.”

100% I think that once Tom Petty died, Stevie very much wanted to have Mike Campbell in the band. She had worked with him (and other members of the Heartbreakers) for many years on demos and solo projects.

I've spouted this theory before but I think a few things happened -- first, The Eagles had a lot of success with Vince Gill, and there was little backlash on them replacing members who had passed away or left. They are also managed by Stevie's manager, Irving Azoff, so I'm sure both of them felt like this would be a workable move.

Second, Lindsey pissed off Azoff by implying that The Classic music festival was a cash grab (it was, I paid, it was good), and pissed off Stevie by (1) making Buckingham McVie and (2) existing as himself, i.e. someone who did not worship her as an icon and didn't defer to her as the cash cow (ahem, Mick).

I think she and Azoff went forward on firing Lindsey (and sold it to Mick, John and Christine) because they felt like it would not affect the bottom line if they were able to recruit known musicians to tour with them like Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. I think Stevie would have fired Lindsey after Say You Will if she could have, but was stuck with him for money until The Eagles proved that you could continue without original members and still make a ton of money touring.

And she couldn't handle the backlash.

Stevie never named who she cheated on, and sure I could be wrong, but I always assumed one of the people she cheated on was Lindsey.

As for her not wanting to "shack up" as in just have sex with LB, his line in Second Hand News which he has explained in various interviews "when times go bad/when times go rough/won't you lay me down in the tall grass/and let me do my stuff" was specifically about hey if you ever get lonely or whatever call me and I'll come over. (find his interview with Dan Rather about it for one instance). So he was always open to hooking up with her over those years and it would seem she was sometimes open to it too if all the stories are to be believed. Now, she is super fussy about her IMAGE and not wanting to seem like an easy woman so she pretends or gets coy about a lot of stuff but.....she's only kidding herself. And btw, I could care less how many people she or any of them have slept with. They're adults and none of it matters.

Stevie never cheated on anyone
She was a married woman in January 1983 and by summer she was sleeping with her opening act.

How dare she! (Nightmare reference for those playing at home)

And the Azoff stuff makes me still bang my head against the wall trying to figure Lindsey's logic in having him as his personal manager. Did he think having Irving "on side" would somehow mitigate things? What a bad judge of character.

I've always wondered the same thing. I read "Buckingham officially signed with Azoff’s company around 2010–2011".

What were the conditions, the situation in those years that led Lindsey to hire him as his manager? " In 2010, Ticketmaster merged with Live Nation, making Irving Azoff the Chairman of Live Nation by 2011. As part of this massive infrastructure, Azoff oversaw Front Line Management, which already handled individual members of Fleetwood Mac. Around 2011, Buckingham decided to release his sixth solo studio album, Seeds We Sow, independently. To guide his solo career through this transition, he officially brought on Irving Azoff and Tom Consolo as his personal managers. While different members of Fleetwood Mac historically used different representation (for instance, Stevie Nicks was long-managed by Howard Kaufman), signing Buckingham brought the band's core moving parts under Azoff's unified umbrella. This alignment streamlined the planning for Fleetwood Mac’s massive global tours in the 2010s".

That's what Google answered but it mentions LA Times as one of the sources. Anyway, at the end that simplified tour planning didn't work at all in April 2018.

I'm sure in 2010 Lindsey already knew the kind of person Irving is. So the only answer I can think of is... business is business.

"He(Irving) may be Satan, but he's OUR Satan"- Don Henley

Irving is a pit bull in business.... for people that can make him big money. Lindsey's solo career was never that, and it's honestly shocking that Irving would even want him on his roster(but obviously, it was part of having the FM package on your roster).

well, especially as Irving himself said in his way too gleeful takedown of Lindsey after the firing, "After 2018 when Fleetwood Mac evolved with their new lineup, my continued work with the band was due entirely to the fact I’ve been aligned with Stevie Nicks in thought and purpose from the earliest of days. "

He was never, ever going to be on Lindsey's side. Ever. Period.

So he was Stevie's Satan, but never would he be Lindsey's.

Makes me curious how many times he hit it(Stevie)?

I mean, he might be even shorter than she, so maybe even she wouldn't go for it?

Nah, I'm sure she'd make it work out(he may have needed a step stool)...

Irving was so overly protective of Stevie and his cash cow. The strong arm to rehab saved her life but I am referring to his cease and desist letter to David Letterman because he was playing Stevie's I Can't Wait video. I think everyone was overly sensitive because of Stevie's condition at the time but it was beyond ridiculous. David was a fan and promoting the song. But it led to great TV for about a week. Years later when Stevie did do Letterman in 1994 Stevie blamed her "old" management and said she took pleasure at firing them.
If you have not seen it here is Letterman mocking Frontline Management. I love that David just mocked the hell out of Frontline all week for their ridiculous telegram and then lying about sending it. He gives out the address to Frontline on air.

Yes! And that's why I struggle to understand why Lindsey hired him. Irving had been Stevie's manager since the post Tusk years. He should have known who he was dealing with. Artists are naive when they're young and just starting out; there are thousands of well-known cases. But by 2011, Lindsey already knew how that world worked, and in any case, he had the money to hire the best lawyers in show business before signing anything. Mystery to me.

PS: Fleetwood Mac didn't 'evolve' in 2018. It just dissapeared. My feeling as a fan at that moment, but I think time has proven me right.

Her split from Kim was announced before the tour. She did that famous interview with ET saying "I can't just not go on the tour; my life has to go on"

I always loved the pics of her on Jimmy's arm at some awards show with Kim behind them.
