The NJ Wild Heart show was professionally audio recorded. They brought an orchestra for Beauty and the Beast. The recordings have been on youtube for a long time. I was listening to this again today and this is such the end of an era. Listening to Waddy's guitar yelping and almost crying with these licks and having Roy Bittan on piano and Benmont Tench on keyboards and Wizard on bass. Dear Lord this was a well oiled machine. To top it off Stevie is in pure vocal form. She shows off her range from whispers to almost yelling. None of these musicians played together again which is a shame. After this tour her voice and bands never had this kind of craft. Benmont is brilliant. He wrote one of Don Henley's biggest hits "Sunset Grill" which is all keyboards. He does this little solo at the end. This is when Stevie would get crazy and dance to his solo and play with the crowd. Even at the crazy Pittsburgh show which she may have been really sick which led to a chaotic concert where the press called her confused, dazed, and glazed How Still My Love was performed to perfection just like this. I love this band. It's part E. Street Band, part Heartbreakers. Anyway, I was listening to this today

I wouldn't say this concert version of Stand Back is among my favorites, but I do like the intro. It's a bit slower than usual, something different. Cool.

I forgot that Prince was there and she dedicated Stand Back to him. They would meet again 3 weeks later when she passes out on Prince's kitchen floor. What a wild, Wild Heart Tour.

Btw, the best thing about this version of Stand Back is the guitar jam before the bridge.

What a wild, Wild Heart Tour.

I don't remember which Stevie documentary I saw her saying about this tour something like "the wild heart tour was exactly wild... everybody was falling in love with everybody". I don't know if love was the right word to use but I have no doubt that tour must have been insane.

There is an old thread on the Ledge about insane Wild Heart tour stories. The CT show where Stevie supposedly throws pineapple chunks back on some crazy yelling guy is so funny. The CT show was on youtube and you can hear Stevie addressing this crazy guy in the crowd. My favorite story from the tour was an aftershow with Stevie and Joe and there was a giant chocolate cream pie and Stevie took it and sat down at a chair and started eating the pie from the center. Stevie gave an interview during the RAL era that said she was so sick and wanted to cancel a concert and her dad told her she could not do it and she needed to get on stage. Her dad started the Wild Heart tour but only lasted the first month before going home. I think I may have seen the show where this happened. I was 13 and I remember feeling scared at times for her watching the concert. I could tell she seemed really out of it but not sure why.

When you're THAT FUKCED UP, you can fall in love in a dark alley.
