Stevie Nicks Live at Red Rocks Remastered in 1080p HD.
Studio City, CA - Lightyear Entertainment announces that it has embarked on a major project to remaster and future-proof its classic music films.
On June 5, Live at Red Rocks will be released to Digital platforms.
I get a lot of people kinda hate this, I'm not one of them and I ache for the chaos and overdubbed dramatic whirl that this is. I hope there's a physical media release and not just streaming...
Anyway saw this on Reddit.

I found this on VHS in a thrift store, and bought it. I watched a few minutes.... I think I still have it?

Its a mess and it was a glimpse into her wild life at the time no matter how they tried to clean it up. Its live footage with edits thrown in and on top of the live performance. The exorcist scream during Edge of 17 is pretty wild. The 1987 Mac "concert" is worse. The entire performance is a lip synced video performance with concert clips thrown in. The annoying part is the clips thrown in are just random concert clips and not of the song that is playing (for the most part).
These were some of the worst things about the 1980s and the vanity they wanted to project. After the annoying Stevie close ups in Red Rocks we got them again in 1987. 1982 Mirage concert was edited horribly but it was just poor job splicing tape together. But at least it was real for the most part. Sound wise YMLF is edited to the studio version but you will see Lindsey and Stevie not in sync with the music among other bad edits.. The Dance had lots of other technical stuff which neutered their live sound IMHO.

I've watched it sometimes because it's on Prime. I see Mick get out of the limo at the beginning, but I don't see him in the concert itself (well I actually skip several songs). I wonder what he was doing the whole time  . I just put it on to look for that Exorcist scream.
Yes, I agree with the mess of the editions. Despite all that, I like the 1987 Klonopin Stand Back performance better than this white Red Rocks one.

Yes Mick and Peter Frampton look wasted getting out of the limo. Mick is in the concert during the beginning of Edge of 17 with Bobbye.
The entire show is a disaster. 2 different hair styles during the same song, then the edited in close ups. Even the dove ending his terrible with the poor dove that is terrified. I think that was her brother's idea that backfired horribly.
THIS. IS. SERIOUS.

1080! Just what I’ve always wanted! Now you can see the crack crystals around her nostrils!
Seriously, though this was probably the worst thing I ever watched. I would rather they have found the original concert footage and use that without the stupid close-ups.

Very much so. A simple document of the concert shot straightforwardly would have been a hundred times better. This is a Marty Callner disaster — a cream cheese production. A scandal.
Not only did he botch the Forum video from 1982, he botched this thing, and then he came back in 1987 and botched the Cow Palace video. Stevie may have asked for the closeups, but Callner is completely to blame for the shoddy quality of the closeups — the discontinuity, the varying hair styles, the trashy staging, and all the rest of the shoddy technical paraphernalia.
In 1983, the Talking Heads hired Jonathan Demme to film one of the great concert films of all time. In 1988, U2 hired Phil Joanou to document their tour with “Rattle and Hum,” released to sellout crowds in theaters. And look at what we got from Mac.
I have NO doubt that Marty Callner was snorting cocaine on all three projects. The only mystery is why Fleetwood Mac, with all their money and stature, picked him to do anything for them besides pump gas into their tour bus.

And why, after watching the final product, did the band approve it? Didn't they notice, or didn't they care about, the incongruities? Or did they not even bother to check it?

It was the 1980s this is what the bands wanted. Believe it or not but when Red Rocks was released we did not know about all this trickery. It was considered a success to make a drugged out female singer look polished close up even with different hair. I hate the Tango concert worse because its either a lip sync of a studio version or they are playing in a studio without an audience. You never see the audience when there is footage of them performing. Everything is edited in. It looks atrocious today but in the 1980s this was glam rock.
Marty Callner also did Ozzy's Ultimate Sin Tour in 1986 which was glam heavy metal. He worked for countless artists in the 1980s including many metal bands.

I doubt Fleetwood Mac hired him to direct. The record label approved everything, FM just showed up, did what they were told, and left. I think we all forget, myself included, that this is a business. No one from FM said they wanted to do something special for the fans by filming a concert- if anything, it was for the money. But FM was not hands on with their concert videos. Stevie invested more time than the others, but that was to shoot close ups because to her it was a vanity project.

You have a point. I thought that, unlike actors in a film where the final product depends on the director's decisions about which takes to include or which scenes to delete, in the case of a concert, the band might have more say, approval. I can't imagine Lindsey being indifferent to incongruous shots, obvious lip-syncing, etc. Or Stevie being unconcerned about the different haircuts in a supposed one night.
But it's true that even directors don't always have the final say in their movies; that's why there are "director's cut", "final cut", etc. after the original release. Now, according to the Mirage IMDB page, Callner was the director and producer. But Mick and Mickey Shapiro were exec producers.
But in the Tango video, IMDB says Wayne Isham was the director, and Mickey Shapiro was a supervising producer. Callner was a second director and just for "Stevie Nicks' closeups". Well, having two directors, having a director for specific shots, that explains why the video may result in a Frankestein.
In both cases Mickey Shapiro was involved. He was Chris and Mick's manager. I would assume that as a producer, one would be attentive to ensuring the videos were good products. In Mick's case, those were years when his mind was frequently out of orbit, but in Shapiro's case, I know he was a very good friend of Mick's and cared about the band, but I don't know how good an executive, how professional, or if he was sober during those years. But as "supervising producer", in the Tango video he wasn't at his finest hour.

My understanding is FM’s performance in 1990 of their Behind the Mask tour in Red Rocks was taped, and that after the show the band stayed back to record the concert footage for the video for Skies the Limit- wouldn’t it be awesome if THAT concert, untouched and warts and all, were released?!? As part of a Deluxe Edition of that era of FM, with not just BTM, but all the songs recorded during that time, such as Love Shines, As Long As You Follow, No Questions Asked, Heart of Stone, plus all the demos that didn’t make it on the albums, such Game of Love and Intuition.
Will never happen but that’s my wish.

Shirley someone has it somewhere. I have a full pro shot Eagles concert in Christchurch, NZ, on DVD. I'm sure the reason it was never released was that it was an absolute MONSOON during the entire show, and the entire audience hiding under ponchos.
Point is- I'll bet someone has it, somewhere.

Could you imagine. Sadly nothing will ever happen with BTM musically or visually. There were countless missed opportunities with this band. Look how long it took to get a full Mirage show released and this was a concert that had been professionally recorded both nights at the Forum in 1982. It took 40 years for it to happen. Picture this: The Dance is still #1 on the charts and the band is playing to sold out arenas in 1997. The Limelight of this relaunched Stevie's solo career. Just imagine if that Mirage show was released on the heals of The Dance. It probably would have charted. Not as high as #1 but back them music was still selling. Buckingham Nicks is another lost opportunity. They did nothing with it for over 50 years and then released it when music does not sell anymore.
My wishlist is a rainbow unicorn of a Christine solo concert on the tour (not the Country Club). Christine sang 3 songs at center stage: One In A Million, Keeping Secrets, and I'm The One while her boyfriend Eddy played keyboards. Such a rare moment to have her front and center yet there is no footage of this? Even a grainy version I would take.
