I've wondered forever what exactly Christine is singing at the end of The Challenge and through the wonders of AI, I think I've been able to decipher it. At the end, I'm pretty sure she sings "I'm not lying" then sings "I ain't lying" then repeats it at the very end. Anyone else agree? Here's the clip, I included the entire final portion of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCvDzKsUDTM

I posted it to YouTube which I should have done in the first place.

I've always thought it was: I'm not lyin...

The Youtube CC just shows the No matter what you do lyiric but when she sings the lying phrase it doesn't shows anything. Don't know how smart is that software when the CC is auto generated.

Some lyric pages shows "I am not lying" twice.

I like the use of delay on the "I'm not lying" lyric. The isolated tracks reveal a very rich backing vocal arrangement. The counterpoint vocals also add a lot to the recording. Are those from Lindsey? He's credited with backing vocals on the song.

I think they are his vocals. I don't hear him anywhere else.

I always thought Lindsey sang “so lonely “

Where I hear Lindsey the most is on Who's Dreaming This Dream. Or maybe it's because it's one of my favorites from that album.

Can we all take a moment here to remember that the 2022 "Songbird" album removed the echo from the final "challenge" lyric, and shake our heads.

I don’t care for any of those remixes on the “Songbird” album. The added organ filigree is so unlike Christine’s style it makes me cringe every time. As Mick once said of other keyboardists he’s worked with it’s just so much “incessant twiddling”.

I'm very partial to the remix of "Sweet Revenge" on the Songbird album. One of my many issues with In the Meantime is that the drumming is overly polished and lifeless. The extra drums on "Sweet Revenge" addresses this issue.

They massacred the song on that album. When I saw that the song would be "remixed", I was hoping for a treatment similar to how Fleetwood Mac songs were remixed for the various re-releases. Instead we got what we got.

I love the re-master 2023 versions of ITM. The Songbird versions... ehhhhhh:(

I agree. I’ve been listening to this a lot this summer. Great job on the remaster. Christine’s vocals wrap right around you and her keyboard playing is much more prominent in the mix.

I might be in the minority in that I find the 2023 remaster to be a downgrade from the original album, particularly on "Friend", which features much thinner production. The entire remaster suffers from this. "Little Darling", an outtake that was originally listed under the title "Come Out to Play", is also more repetitive on the remaster version. And I'm not even that fond of In the Meantime. I find it to be the weakest group of songs in Christine's entire career perhaps outside her work on O.K. Ken? by Chicken Shack.

That's my feelings on most remasters/remixes. When Chris Lord-Alge remixed all of Stevie's songs on Timespace. The difference was HUGE. At first I liked the new sound of the songs. But then I longed for the original. For example he removed the echo effect from Edge of 17 and the great drum sequence in the middle of Stand Back and toned down the rumbling synthesizer. Not all remixes are better. I agree with you on Friend. The original is leaps better.
