Has anyone heard the original recording of Docklands from 1987? I think me and David are the only ones on this board that appreciate this song on Street Angel. I like the writing and I always liked to sing to the chorus.

I always liked the song (the verse not so much) but I do like the chorus, her voice is stellar on Street Angel and I do like the original. Thanks for posting.

Docklands is a good song. It’s very well written. However, her voice is atrocious on it. Her voice ruins the song. She sound drugged up, old and like she isn’t trying.

Here is a little about the song. Docklands is a part of the UK. It was written by Betsy Cook who is an American that worked mainly in the UK. She has written songs for some famous singers. She recorded her own song in 1992 after it was recorded by the other band in 1987.
The song has an American vibe to me but I suppose the Docklands can be anywhere.

So - Stevie recorded "Docklands" as early as 1987, a full 7 years before it appeared on "Street Angel"?
What album did she originally record "Docklands" for? During what sessions?

I know she didn't write it herself, but "Docklands" is one of all-time favourite Stevie songs, I used to love to listen to and sing it while walking around the Docklands precinct in Melbourne, Australia

No, she never recorded the song until Street Angel. It was brought to her for the album. She did not write it. It was written by an American living in the UK and given to a Brit band over there and they recorded it in 1987. I doubt Stevie knew anything about the song until 1993.
I like the song because it sort of tells a story like The Highway Man. I always thought the line "sometimes I feel like I'm living in a foreign land and there is a mirror I'm looking through" was a very Stevie-esque line.

Yes! I have always liked this song. It’s evocative — the story of the London docks in the eastside.
There’s a demo that Stevie and her singers recorded which is equally good. Do you remember hearing that?
I can’t remember whether Stevie performed this on her 1994 tour. I think she did so for the first half of the tour. I don’t remember whether she did so at Arco Arena.
