Its been almost exactly 10 years since one of the coolest moments in rock history took place. Mick played sick until he couldn't and the drum tech came out to perform Go Your Own Way. Really incredible. Many bands would have just called it a night. OMG so much has happened in 10 years! Sadly 2 people on that stage are no longer with us :(

I didn't know about that episode. So cool the video included Songbird.
I know it's a complete different situation, but watching four of the five guys lineup, reminds me the april 2009 concert when they said goodbye in a similar hug. Only that time it was Christine who wasn't there. I'll always be a fan of that five people lineup.

The band never did go back and make up for half a show. Mick has played through some incredible pain so Stevie is right when she explains how bad he must be. The band resumed the night show without issues. This tour Mick never took a night off when his mother passed either. I guess it was true when they said ON WITH THE SHOW.
Lincoln, Nebraska was also the tour stop where Mick told the McVies he could no longer play with Bob Weston and he was fired. Weston went back to England and the tour stopped in 1973.

I love that clip... john's hand on chris's shoulder as they're talking is so sweet. poor mick must have really been a mess. i figured they'd never go back for another show though.

Yeah but they gotta say that to keep the crowd happy.
Really remarkable how they plotted a way forward for at least another song. For a drummer to step into another drummer's set and perform is risky. He did a great job and only missed the beat once but they carried on which is really cool.
I wonder if Mick has ever watched this and what he thinks.

Actually if a third one appeared, I wouldn't buy it, as I didn't the second one. I think I have read the first one just twice (not like you who read it lot of times :) ). As I told in the past, some ledgie (I can't remember who) shared the txt file, and I downloaded it, so it's easy to look for, and find a specific episode, info, and that's why I often share quotes from the book, just to comment about some anecdote mentioned here.
I did enjoyed Mick's book, back in the early 90s. However thru the years I learned many events reported are of dubious credibility, but it's useful to quote them sometimes, just to compare.

We're the same on them. Once I figured out he's a WORTHLESS LIAR, I have little interest in anything else from him.
I am going on another cruise in a few weeks, and I'm tossing the 2nd book into my bag, and if I'm bored enough, see if I can get through some of it.

That is funny! I had it laid out for my last cruise, but(it was my first cruise) I took it out at the last minute, because I was taking too much with me. I'm leaving dress clothes at home this time. I'm not carrying dress shoes for one fancy dinner. Plus, I wear size 13 shoes, so they take up a LOT of room in a suitcase! So I'll have room for the book this time.

By the way, what cruise line? This is my second with Norwegian. They usually have a FM Rumours tribute band night. Only one night, but two shows. Both were standing room only, this past Feb. I gave up on the first one, because the line was too long, but hunkered down with two glasses of Cab for the second one, and stood in line for an hour. Success!
They did Rumours in sequential order, with Silver Springs as their encore.

Oh yeah, it was a huge attraction. And the players would reset the stage(move their mic stands around between songs), moving out of the way for who was singing lead next, while a member gave a little narrative about what the next song was about.
I'd say the only lame part was that the guitarist couldn't finger pick NGBA. So the bass player played along with him, playing Lindsey's "thumb parts". At the end, one of the other members told the crowd how difficult that song was to play.
The same band played the rest of the cruise as a regular cover band, and they did EO17 and SDMHA in those bands.

His second book is very boring. I think he wrote it as some sort of therapy assignment because it's all very positive and sort of an apology tour. I am not saying a positive book cant be good. But when someone writes a book its expected things will be revealed to the public for the first time. In Mick's first book he admitted to the world about his affair with Stevie, about his lifelong stalker, how the Australians always thought he was smuggling in drugs, and Stevie's bat s**t crazy antics. If you remember he revealed so much that Stevie threatened him with civil litigation.
Nothing is revealed in the second book and things we know about are not even discussed. For example when the first book ended Stevie had just started her tranquilizer addiction that no one knew at the time. Mick never discusses it. Stevie is hardly even mentioned in it. It was wonderful to read about is praise of Bob Welch. He really explains how Bob transformed the band, etc. But it sort of made me sick for what he did to Bob and Bob is no even alive to read it. I wanted more about the BTM era but it sort of was glossed over. Mick has no gripes or enemies in the book. I had a hard time finishing it because it was so boring. Unlike his first book where he describes in detail the fight at Christine's house when Lindsey left, I dont think he mentions much of it. Everything is so glossed over. Like I said, the book reads like a therapy lesson where he was forced to write a book to apologize to people he wronged to put his self guilt to rest. I tried to sell the book on Ebay several years ago for rock bottom price and it had no interest and took it off market. If you were here in the states I would gladly mail you a copy. It may be useful for keeping a table level in your house ;)
I could be wrong because its been so long since I've read it but I think the only revelation in the book is about regretting him and John continuing on through the Time era. That's it. In that giant book it was the only thing new revealed other than his glossy propping up those he wronged in the past.

And that was the only thing I’d be interested about that second book. Stories about BTM and Time. But since he overlooked them, it is not worth it. Did he talk about the sessions with Lindsey for his solo album? Those who “It was weird, actually, and that brought us to this point”.
I also have that 1992 “coffee table book”, My Twenty-five years in Fleetwood Mac. Cool pictures. It does mention C&S departure, but the reason behind it, which he describes, I think, again, it is not very close to the truth, especially about Stevie. I think Christine did seek peace and quiet, but I understand that she was also bothered by the first book, or so I read.
That summer’s series of Euro shows also saw both Chris and Stevie announce in mid tour that they would be leaving the band. Both women were wealthy and famous, and neither felt like continuing the pressure and the pace that went along with life in Fleetwood Mac. The two ladies reached this decision together, although both indicated they would continue to record with the band in the future.

The book had no impact on me and was not an enjoyable read so I can't remember much. Much of the book is his early life and his relationships. He does write about Time but like much of the other music stuff it goes fast. Like you I wanted so much more about BTM and juicy details about the album, Stevie, the disappointment, etc. NOTHING. I think he just mentioned that Billy was his drinking partner back then. I think he does mention about him buying drugs in Lindsey's driveway during Tango too. My hunch is the making of Rumours and other albums have been documented to death. He does not repeat anything he covered in his first book. He does not even fill in the gaps. When I got the book I was hoping it would pick up where the other one left off. He talks about Jenny, his kids, etc. As I mentioned earlier it seems like a therapeutic book of sorts portraying everyone he has wronged in the most positive light.
Since his book was released Bekka came out with how she was fired from Fleetwood Mac and what a jerk Mick was. NOTHING about that in his book. He could have at least given his side of the story or something. Its lots of words that only mean something to him. If someone was not a Fleetwood Mac fan they could never finish the book its so boring. I really had to force myself to finish it. And I can't even remember much of what was in it. No joke.

I found his second book to be fine enough. He did mention that Christine expressed interest in recording some songs on Say You Will, but Lindsey shot that idea down as she was unwilling to tour.

Although I hate Lindsey's decision, it's because Christine WAS FM, and had the most hits. How do you tour to support an album, when your LEAD SINGER of your hit is absent?

I wonder how high a Christine lead vocal single would have charted in 2003.
Also, FM was promoting SYW with live TV performances too. Would Christine have played at those Today Show and Tonight Show performances in 03?

John had the same view in his Q&A about that-- he said he didn't see the point of her being involved if she couldn't promote the project. maybe that was just the mentality of old timer rock and rollers? like 'how can you be on an album if you're not gonna tour with us?' it must have seemed a weird concept. but i wonder also how high a single by chris would have charted.

Mick and John already tried the Christine’s still in the band but doesn’t tour anymore thing once before (sort of) and it didn’t work.

I do agree with you 100%, but it still bothers me that Lindsey left them just before the Tango tour was due to start. It would have been better if he hadn't agreed to participate in the album. The fact that his songs weren't the biggest hits from Tango in the Night it didn't ease the impact of not going with them on the tour. He could do it, just for a few weeks, as he initially agreed to do.

Yes but Lindsey revealed that himself way before Mick's book during SYW process. While we don't like the decision I can understand Lindsey's concern at the time. I am paraphrasing Lindsey but he said something like it would be confusing to have band members come and go having one foot in and one foot out of the band. He was concerned people would expect Christine to be there on the tour

Lindsey had the lead single and second biggest hit from Tango. Its not a favorite of mine but his slick production and in the moment freshness sound is what made Tango a success. It was a great launching pad for the new era. Imagine if BTM was the long awaited Tango replacement. The band would have ended. The strength of Tango and the tour gave the band the energy to do songs for the Greatest Hits album and BTM. Long story short is Lindsey's Tango extended the life of Fleetwood Mac. It was the last time the Mac had commercial charting hits from an album.

Just to compare, 2002 Rolling Stones' Don't Stop didn't reach the top ten, or so I read, except in Croatia. It just did reach the US Adult Alternative Songs top ten.
But even if Chris singles had reached just #99, I had loved an In The Meantime Say You Will album. :)

In the UK I think Christine would’ve had a top 20 hit. Even with The Stones’ full new album in 2005, their singles didn’t chart on the Hot 100 and they played the Super Bowl Halftime. McCartney didn’t chart around 02/03 either. And when Eagles released their new album in 2007, their single How Long was everywhere and that charted lower than Peacekeeper did.
I don’t know how Say You Will the single didn’t chart - that is a supermarket favorite and is one of Stevie’s most bubblegum pop songs. Perhaps it’s when you reach 50, you can’t chart on the Hot 100 unless you’re Cher or Madonna!

The LROOE album did much better than SYW. I’m sure How Long charted lower than Peacekeeper.
As far as concert draw, I think FM became as hot a concert ticket as Eagles in 2014 because of Christine.
The 2013 FM Tour sold out everywhere too but Eagles did multiple nights in cities on the History of the Eagles Tour which was intended to be their final tour according to DH. FM did like 3 nights in NYC area and 2 in LA whereas Eagles did like 7 in NYC area and countless shows in LA!!!

Billboard is a fine reference to measure popularity, but mostly in the USA. I think this century albums of Eagles and Fleetwood Mac were very little known worldwide.

Oh wow, so according to these links How Long didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100 at all. Peacekeeper charted at 80 on the Hot 100.
Eagles did have a one-off single in 2003 called Hole In The World which charted at 69. It's a very Hell Freezes Over front of stage, sitting on a stool sounding song.
I was looking at AC/DC singles for their albums in 2000 and 2008 and they didn't chart on the Hot 100 either. 80 doesn't seem awful for Peacekeeper to me, for 53 year old Lindsey and Stevie.

Did we have to bring up "Hole In The World"?
Remember how the eagles spent years dangling that new album they had in the works and when they FINALLY release something from those sessions it was that POS track?
I'm not shocked for a minute they never came back to makeup the show that was cut short. Anything that is ever promised by any member of Fleetwood Mac will most certainly never happen. It's the Fleetwood Mac Family kiss of death.
