I found this 2023 article. It would have been interesting to know the source of each quote, or what year it was said.

I think the one I like the most is N.17. “I tend to like the traditional sound: three-part harmonies, guitar, and piano. I mean, a well-played guitar is a joy forever.”

And I disagree with N.20. “I don’t think talent or the gift ever goes away.” I think it sometimes does.

Well, considering that she’s credited for writing Dreams and GYOW, I can’t take the article too seriously.

I've suggested crocheting, knitting, kayaking, and Pornhub as hobbies, but he says the Ledge is his only hobby.

A few of my favorites are:

I drank a bottle of champagne every night on stage with cocaine. The combination made me play better. Maybe someone else can tell me otherwise.

The mad songwriter is writing another song.

I was a little jealous of Stevie for awhile but we are completely different people. She could never play an organ or keyboards and I could not dance and twirl.

Thank you and a very good evening everybody.

Thanks for coming and drive safe going home.

....and most of all I wish it for myself

I loved when she mentioned the city at the end of Songbird. At the 1997 NYC show, she did it very emotional, or so I remember.

Yes its always wonderful when they call out your city you are seeing them play. Chris made a goof on her solo tour in Pittsburgh and came out and said "Howya doing Detroit"
After Say You Love Me she got the note she said the wrong city. Chris was so sincere and said "I knew I was going to screw that up somewhere" and then profusely apologized.

If you ever hear her Jackson NJ solo show that is a bootleg Chris is hysterically funny. She's playing Great Adventure Amusement Park. But she wants to know the name of the town. So people are yelling it out to her. Her banter is so funny because she's telling them Great Adventure cant be the name of the town. At the end of the song she says something like. You know I really did not think that was the name of the town. I'm really smart

Board member Lis was there that night!

Speak for yourself

Its neat how many of us were 14 in 1984. Me, you, and jbrownsjr saw Chris in 1984, we all were 14 and driven by dad to the concert.
We lived through the 80s decade as teens. I don't want to get older but I am jealous how much fun people had in their 20s in the mid to late 70s. The discos, the incredible concerts, the cars. No drunk driving laws, no drug testing, no any restraints on how far you could party.
Every time I get a warm fuzzy feeling about the 70s I think of Chris describing her Hollywood Hills home and cranking Steely Dan out by the pool through the valley. OMG I cant even imagine the fun it must have been to be there. I was a weird kid because in the 80s I wanted to live in the 70s. To be a Mac fan in the mid 80s was weird by many.

I was 18 in 1984. But being in college, and especially living more than 2,600 miles away from where the concerts were, the Mirage and Tango concert videos were all I could reach. That's why The Dance and the Reunion tour were a dream come true.

In general, I love the 80s music. But interestingly, the finest hours of my favorite bands happened in the 70s.

Ohh yes, it was definitely a bit uncool to like FM in the mid80s. It was my verrrrry private obsession...i only had a couple of friends that knew. when i met marty i don't think i even let on to him how obsessed i was until we were together a couple of years lmao. and when he eventually came up w the idea to make a mac website, i was intrigued, but part of me wondered if there was anyone else out there who loved them the way i did!! so i'm glad all you loonies are out there haha and this became a place to meet each other!

I never hid my obsession for the Mac since the late seventies (solo and band) to this day anytime any of friends hear/see anything related to them …I’m told they THINK ABOUT ME.

It wasn't private in my case. I didn't need to do it that way. Many friends liked the 80s music more than the 70s', but appreciate many 70s band. Nobody defined you as uncool if you liked a 70s rock band. Though if you liked Bee Gees, that was another story.

However, I do remember a RS anniversary issue from the mid 90s that has articles for each decade. The 70s article defined its music mostly kind of decadent, compared to the magnificient 60s music, and the most redeemable song, if not the only good one, was Stairway to Heaven. Though it admitted there were some fine examples, and I remember a phrase that goes like and you can watch the California sunset while listening Fleetwood Mac and Eagles.

And the 80s article said there was something good in its music. Kind of a fresh new sound (mentioning Pretenders among others) that replaced the old dinosaurs, and there it mentioned Styx and Foreigner.

When I was leaving elementary school and about to enter Jr High school can be a scary time. I remember hearing the rumors that if you did not get into The Doors you would get beat up. I remember taking my sister's Best of the Doors album and learning it "back to front." When my knowledge of The Doors music and songs was known I remember someone asking "how do you know that song." I took that to mean...they did not know how "cool" I was.
The bands in Jr High that were the most popular in the early/mid 80s were AC/DC, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, The Doors, Van Halen, Kiss, The Stones. Asia was really cool in 1982 with their very popular rock album. NO ONE was proudly proclaiming their love for Fleetwood Mac. In the summer of 1983 my friends and I were dropped off at a flea market. Sure enough there was someone selling rock T shirts with those iron on photos. There was a Fleetwood Mac one. The photo was that 1976 photo with them outside near some steps or porch? I grabbed one so fast that I did not even check sizes. I cherished this shirt but I dare not wear it to school. With Stevie and the Mac being on HBO in 1982/1983 sort of made them cool for awhile. Back then HBO was airing rock concerts of the Who and other bands and us living in the sticks had no MTV so seeing rock concerts on HBO was extraordinary. Tusk sort of made the band lose its rock chops and Mirage did not help much either.
I assume we both grew up in blue collar areas and things were the same. We would walk extra blocks to catch a certain school bus because the driver would let us smoke and he would listen to the local rock station. Too cool for school!
I remember one of my friends teased me once. He lived about 3 houses away and there was a narrow woods between the houses. He was a metalhead and played guitar. Sara was on the radio once while my friends were hanging out in the woods behind my house. He made sure to crank it up really loud so I could hear it.

I love your recollections!! No, Mirage did not help at ALL in making them cool in 1982 lol. I actually grew up in a very wealthy, horribly snobby and materialistic town where i did not fit in *at all*. all that mattered was what you had, and what you wore, and how much gold and diamond jewelry you could wear on your arm or neck. There was a big group of scruffy 'dead head' kids who wore tie dye shirts a lot, trying to come off like hippies, when they actually had more money than god, give me a break.

but yeah, popular bands when i was in 9th grade (last year of jr high) were the stones, led zeppelin, asia, U2, duran duran, def leppard, van halen, journey, AC/DC , Ozzy etc. Fleetwood Mac was definitely not on the list, although they did get a bit of notoriety with the HBO concert, you're right.

funny 80's Mac memories that come to mind--

.... i had bought a Rumours songbook at Sam Goody, i think, with autographed pics of all 5 members and i used to try to perfect each member's autograph during boring classes. one time somebody was behind me watching and asked what I was doing lol, i whooshed the paper into my notebook and just said 'nothing!'. but to this day I can forge all their signatures beautifully and can *always* tell a fake one when folks try to sell stuff on ebay or whatever. i had that sh*t down.

...my best friend at 13/14 was rich and had a beach house in lavalette, so in the summer i'd go spend weekends with her there. at night her dad would hand us each a roll of quarters and send us off to entertain ourselves on the boardwalk in seaside heights. one night at the wheel I won and i was bold enough to choose the plaque of stevie they had as an option for a prize, i still have that damn thing hanging in my mac closet upstairs. i only did it because this friend knew my mac obsession, she knew i was secretly married to lindsey buckingham, and she was married to Adam Ant briefly before becoming obsessed with mick jagger lmao. my marriage to LB lasted much longer ! and we had several children lmao. i could tell you their names and birthdays but i'll spare you.

....I wasn't bused to school, i had to walk nearly 2 miles to school and then back home, so i'd try to practice their accents, how they said certain things in interviews. or I'd memorize mac radio interviews i'd recorded on tape, or the ones from the tusk documentary that i watched endlessly. i can still recite many of those interviews word for word, it's quite impressive.

....for xmas in 9th grade, my parents gave me a cute grey FM shirt with a little penguin on it, but i was too embarrassed to ever wear it-- however on the last day of school i said screw it and put it on, a couple people were like, 'ew!' but i didn't care because it was the last day of school. i have this old pic of me standing by the wall of my jr high wearing that cool shirt on the last day of 9th grade and hoping by the time 10th grade started in the HS, everybody would have forgotten it. I still own that shirt, too. and it's so funny because i sub in my town's HS and you should see all the kids that come in wearing Rumours tee shirts!! it's nuts! i see prob a couple every week. and they think it's cool ! i'm secretly jealous of them :D

OMG we grew up like the Outsiders each on the other side of the tracks. Apparently I'm the greaser and you are the Sociach.

In 7th grade we had the coolest music teacher who was into rock. We got to design our own album covers for a song we picked. I did Whiskey Bar by the Doors. She would invite kids to bring in rock posters she hung over the walls. She had a Stevie Nicks poster promoting the White Winged Dove concert on HBO. I was in this class when the Mac's HBO concert was in full tilt. People dont understand what a big deal HBO was back in the day. There is nothing to compare it to today. My dad was really into TV and when we got cable and HBO in 1977 we were the envy of the neighborhood. Watching a concert on HBO was a huge deal. Few could understand that today. Its what we talked about on the school bus and conversations people had over the water cooler. People talked about and raved about Mick's zany faces with beer poured down his throat and Stevie's witch dance for Sisters. See the Mac was a different band on stage people got to see.

and really at that time, MTV was monumentally influential as well. we were all obsessed with it.

Definitely. She had some serious rock chops but they only lasted so long. Rock stations played the hell out of Stand Back even though it was very Princey. Rock stations dug into Wild Heart and songs like Enchanted and Nothing Ever Changes were regulars even though they were not singles. Nightbird and Talk To Me sort of killed her rock chops a bit ;)
