Man that lisp is really present, isn't it?

There is a lot of speculation on the Ledge about her lisp being related to her teeth or tongue but an “acquired lisp” can be caused by a number of factors:
-Neurological conditions, such as stroke, brain injury, or Parkinson's disease
-Physical or structural issues in the mouth, such as an overbite, narrow dental arch, new implants or veneers, or enlarged tongue
-Trauma or injury to the face, mouth, teeth, jaw, or tongue
-Stress or anxiety
Unless Stevie addresses it publicly - her fans will never know what has caused the acquired lisp.

And Stevie may not even know why, herself. It seems unlikely the cause is something as serious as Parkinson’s, a stroke, etc because surely there would be other signs as well. The other causes you listed seem more likely.
Thanks for posting this.

I give her kudos for talking about something so personal in her life. It's not easy but I think at her age she does not care anymore.
When Don outed her about her abortion is probably the douchiest thing a man can do to a woman. Its a window into his soul and he is an ***hole.
Had it not been for him, its quite possible Stevie would have kept this to herself.

And we know the story of Don’s lying in bed with a sixteen year old who then overdosed.

I don't know about Parkinson or strokes, but several neurological diseases starts gradually with one subtle symptom. A popular local singer started decades ago to talk slowly, though he sang perfectly. But as time went by, he started to suffer face and body paralysis. He got spinal muscular atrophy, a rare neuromuscular disorder.
But I agree with reebokandlace, so I'm just speculating.

It’s definitely possible. I also believe that hearing loss can cause slurring and speech impediments in later life. Considering how much time Stevie has spent on stage, hearing loss seems very possible, as well.

Stevie has had a bit of a lisp her whole career, so presumably her whole life. It's gotten worse with age and worse after she re-did her teeth some years ago.
She has always had a slight lisp…
“miwow in the sky”
Comes to mind
Maybe not a lisp as such, but a definite speech impediment.

Didn't Christine sort of develop a problem with "S"s towards the end as well?

This is one more reason for a lisp that I didn’t list in my post above:
- Childhood speech patterns: If a child doesn't learn proper tongue placement and movement, they may continue to lisp into adulthood.
The interesting thing is a speech therapist can help one learn how to properly pronounce /s/ and /z/ sounds, regardless of your age. Earlier intervention is recommended, but adults can also benefit from speech therapy…. Stevie has been working with a vocal coach for years… you would think they would address the lisp. I know a vocal coach is not a speech therapist but there is some crossover.
The other thing I noticed in the past three years is her top lip on the left hand side is very narrow and that side of her mouth doesn’t move the way it used to. It is a very thin red line of lipstick. The top right is still very full. I am not sure what caused this significant of a change. I paused the recent interview when she was sitting across from the interviewer and took a screenshot and was very surprised by what I was seeing. Still… cause unknown. Can’t even speculate what it might be.
Considering Stevie is being very open about everything else maybe she will address this lisp issue.

I always thought she had an underbite, which would make for different tongue placement. It was noticeable when she was younger.
Now, you can't see her top teeth at all, so speculating does she have veneers on the top and not on the bottom and that is making her speech impediment more pronounced.
My aunt developed a significant lisp when she got dentures, but Stevie doesn't have dentures.
I also think she looks like she's lost a bit of weight. Her face looks much thinner

Yes I noticed in the interview her top lip was so thin it almost wasn't there compared to the past. Agree bottom lip still full.

Yes! Some kind of filler pumped into the cheeks leaking down or something, perhaps... That top lip really flares out when she speaks. Strange.

When I got veneers, I suddenly got a lisp. It took my mouth a very long time to adjust to them. I think the lisp has something to do with her teeth. Maybe she got a bridge or some type of denture.

Now that I read this, my dentist insisted that I started wearing a night guard. Not only did sleeping with that affect my daytime speech, I also started developing sleep apnea. I would wake up choking, even when I didn't have it in! Tossed that MF in the trash, and fine ever since.

Bone loss as we age, can make our face look thinner. I really hope she doesn't get dentures. I know someone who had all their teeth taken out, in preparation for dentures and then couldn't wear them because they were too painful!.
I recommend holding on to your, own, teeth for as long as they aren't painful when eating, even if they're stained by smoking. If she doesn't want to get implants, then regular appointments with her dentist should be okay!::nod:

Ok don't laugh at me but for several seconds I thought "what does Mick Fleetwood have to do with it? What an obsession Homer has". But then I remember what MF means. :)
