Every second feels like an *eternity when you’re hovering four inches from Stevie Nicks, *noodling around with her blouse. This is Stevie Nicks, the first woman to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice — as a member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. Stevie Nicks, whose legendary shawl collection resides in its own temperature-controlled vault. Stevie Nicks, who, at 76, has become an obsession of younger generations, from her American Horror Story appearance to the original poem she wrote for Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department to a recent viral TikTok video, where she intensely stares down her ex-boyfriend and bandmate Lindsey Buckingham during a 1997 performance of “Silver Springs.” (Yes, Nicks has seen it.)

This is also Stevie Nicks, who’s somehow gotten a long, spiraled, gold ring she’s wearing stuck in the mesh fabric of her blouse, requiring the up-close-and-personal assistance of an interviewer she met only minutes ago.

She is surprisingly nonchalant as I lean over her, delicately unwinding the thread from each loop of the ring. “It happened [recently] onstage,” she says of the ring tangling. “It was stuck on my ‘Gold Dust Woman’ cape, and the most handsome guy on our entire tour ran out and was down on one knee trying to undo it. I felt like a princess in a Cinderella movie.” She laughs. I loosen up. Miraculously, I free the material from the ring without a single tear. “Thank you, honey,” she says sweetly.

Nicks has been in Philadelphia for the past three days, wrapping up a massive tour and recording a Christmas song with former NFL star Jason Kelce. Tonight, she’s in her signature all-black attire, save for hot-pink hair ties that hold her blond, elegant French braid. Her tiny Chinese crested dog, Lily, saunters in and out of the room, occasionally sitting on her lap and staring at the massive charcuterie plate in front of us.

The spread will go untouched over the next three and a half hours while Nicks takes me on a wild ride through her life — and, at one point, into the bedroom to meet her Stevie Nicks Barbies. There’s the prototype, dressed in her beloved “Rhiannon” black dress, and the official Stevie Barbie, released last fall. Nicks didn’t love Barbies as a child, but there’s something special about this doll. “I never in a million years thought this little thing would have such an effect on me,” she says, holding the miniature Gold Dust Woman.

Nicks is as prolific and driven as ever. She’s also unmoored from her famous band. After a successful tour with the classic Fleetwood Mac lineup in 2014 and 2015, Buckingham ran into conflict with his bandmates — and with Nicks in particular — leading to him being fired from the group in 2018. The 2022 death of Christine McVie, whom Nicks calls “my musical soulmate,” truly seems to have ended the band; Nicks says she’s done with Fleetwood Mac for good. Instead, she launched a two-year-long solo tour, which just wrapped a couple of evenings before we talk at the 30,000-seat Hersheypark Stadium.

She’ll perform to millions shortly after our conversation, when she appears as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live for the first time in more than 40 years. When she steps onto the stage at Studio 8H, she’ll play her women’s-rights anthem “The Lighthouse,” which Nicks wrote following the demise of Roe v. Wade. Featuring Sheryl Crow on guitar, it’s a cathartic rocker in which Nicks compares herself to a lighthouse, guiding women and encouraging them to stand up for their power. “You know what I always think of when I say SNL?” she asks me. “Stevie Nicks Live.”

Where do you prefer that I sit?
You’re good right there, as long as you don’t think you have Covid.

No, I don’t.
Well, thank goodness we’re done [touring] for a while, so I can go home and not have a mask on all the time. As a singer with asthma, I ****ing hate the masks, but I wear them. People give you dirty looks. I dare anybody to give me a dirty look. I would just say, “Hey, you know what? I’m Stevie Nicks. And if I get sick, my entire thing goes down. Forty families are out of work. So that’s why I have a mask on, asshole.” I can’t get [Covid] again. I mean, I’m old, so I’ll only be around for another 15 years. But you guys have another 30 or 40 years, so you should think about it.

Fifteen years sounds pretty exact.
I’ll probably live to be hatefully 95 years old. I have no want to be that old, honestly. I mean, I’ll have an electric scooter, and I will be raging and I will keep dancing. But I’m not looking forward to that, really — I think that’s too old. My mom died at 84, and my dad died at about 80, but I’m a younger person at 76 than they were at 76. So I figured 88, 89.

Are you afraid of death?
I’m not afraid of dying, but what I am afraid of is not getting everything together, because I’m so busy. And that’s why I’m really glad this tour’s over, so that I can go and work on an album. I haven’t been able to do a lot of the creative things that I love in many, many years. I draw, I write songs, and I write poetry. I’d like to make a perfume because I actually have a smell that I love. I like to design blankets. Cashmere blankets are my favorite thing. That is what I buy for my friends if there’s a special occasion. I bought Travis Kelce a blanket.

Don Henley and J.D. Souther took me into a store in Los Angeles called Maxfield Blue, now Maxfield, in 1977. And they took me there, and I got my first cashmere blanket. I always laugh and say, “They taught me how to spend money,” those two guys.

J.D. died recently — I know you briefly dated him back in the day.
It’s been a terrible, terrible tragedy. And then Kris Kristofferson. [My assistant] came in to tell me something today. And she goes, “So, Stevie…” Every time she says “So, Stevie,” I go like, “Please don’t tell me that somebody else died. I wish you would just come in, say my name, and don’t say ‘so’ before, because it’s starting to set me up for tragedy, because we’re old.”

What new music have you been working on?
I have so many ideas for songs that I want to do. There’s some songs that I didn’t write that other people wrote that I’m going to call them on the phone and say, “I’d really like to sing this song with you. How do you feel about that?”

I also have so many poems that are ready to go. I wrote a poem about one of the women stars of one of my favorite crime shows, Chicago P.D. That’s medicine for me, and I can’t wait to go to the piano and sit down with it. I’ve written a song called “The Vampire’s Wife,” which, I think, is one of my best songs I’ve ever written. Because it’s like “Rhiannon,” a story of a character. Who knows, I might call this next album The Vampire’s Wife.

It seems like you’re bursting with all of this creativity.
I got diagnosed with this thing a year and a half ago called wet macular degeneration, and it is not a good thing. I was seeing all these colors, big things of purple. I was having, like, acid trips. And I’m going, “I’m not taking any acid, so I don’t understand what this is.” Now, every six, seven, eight, nine weeks, I have to have a shot in each one of my eyes. That’s going to be for the rest of my life.

There’s dry macular degeneration, which my mom had. Her whole thing was doing the financial books for my dad, because she was a financial little wizard. When she was about 80, it was really hard for her to see. In a way, I think it killed her because she was so brokenhearted that she could no longer do this. So when I got diagnosed with this, all of a sudden, I’m going like, “You know what? You need to finish these drawings, because what if you start to lose your sight?” I haven’t drawn in years … but my drawings are as important to me as my songs.

You just released “The Lighthouse,” which you were working on for two years.
When Roe v. Wade was banished, I turned on Morning Joe and I swear to God, I thought Mika [Brzezinski] was going to crawl over the desk. What she did was remind me what a loss this was. Because I can remember being so happy when it came into being in 1973. It was like we were safe.

It’s not just about not being careful and having an abortion. It’s everything. It’s all the health care. It’s an ectopic pregnancy. It’s all the procedures that need to be done in our bodies that half of us don’t ever have and half of us have a whole lot more than other people. I was just really freaked out after I saw [the news], and that was the inspiration for this song.

I wrote the words in the morning. I never write in the morning, and I hadn’t even had a cup of coffee. But I just wrote the whole thing. Then I closed the book and went back to sleep. It sounds like Marvin Gaye walking down a seedy alley and singing about life, and he runs into Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters when he turns the corner. That’s how I hear it.

It’s a really important message, especially in time for the election.
I’m going to reach out to women and say, “You have to vote.” You have to. I never voted until I was 70 years old because I wasn’t at all political. I was incredibly busy, I was having a fitting, and I didn’t want to do jury duty. It’s a big regret.

It’s really hard for women to be open about their own abortions. How have you always found the courage to talk about yours?
Well, mine really wasn’t let out to the public by me — it was let out to the public by Don Henley [who impregnated Nicks when they briefly dated in the late Seventies]. He called me to apologize. I said, “You know what, Don? We did go out for about a year and have remained such good friends. ‘Leather and Lace’ [their 1981 duet] draws us together forever.” So, anyway, he let that one out of the bag. I probably would’ve never. Why would I say anything about it? Everything was totally legal.

It was, like, 1977, or going into 1978. Don was the first guy I actually went out with after Lindsey and I broke up. When this pregnancy happened, it was like, “What the heck happened? I am completely respectful of the world rules here, and all of a sudden this happens to me and I can’t figure it out.” I go to my GYN, and he says, “Well, you’ve been protected by your Copper-7 IUD, but you have a tipped uterus. That IUD is only protecting half of you, and we didn’t know that.” Now, what the hell am I going to do? I cannot have a child. I am not the kind of woman who would hand my baby over to a nanny, not in a million years. So we would be dragging a baby around the world on tour, and I wouldn’t do that to my baby. I wouldn’t say I just need nine months. I would say I need a couple of years, and that would break up the band, period. So my decision was to have an abortion. If people want to be mad at me about that, I don’t really care, because my life was my life and my plan was my plan and had been since I was in the fourth grade.

So Fleetwood Mac would have been done.
Done. And that would’ve been sad, because I would not have married Don Henley. That was a really fun relationship, but he was in a bigger band than me. Those boys were rock stars, par extraordinaire. Nobody in that band was ready to get married and have children. So I knew it would just be on me, and I wouldn’t have even known what to do with that responsibility. I have another example of something that was very scary for me. I have a friend who had an ectopic pregnancy. She went on to have a little girl who is my little soulmate goddaughter that I absolutely adore. She would’ve died if this had been the old days. And this little girl that I love so much would not be on this Earth. So right there, there’s two completely different scenarios. Why weren’t we schooled in that? Why were we never told about that in high school or even college?

But now “The Lighthouse” can teach others.
On the plane, I told [bandmate and musical director] Waddy Wachtel, “I don’t know what to call this song,” because we’d been calling it “The Power Song” forever. And he just looked at me and he said, “What about ‘The Lighthouse?’” I used to have a dream that I would buy a lighthouse and it would have that twisty staircase that would go all the way up. I would have a little place at the bottom with a bed and a bathroom, and that would be my place when I wanted to go and record by myself, right on a cliff.

So I said, “OK, ‘The Lighthouse.’ So I am the lighthouse, because I am the wisdom and I have the stories.” We are the women that can tell all these young women from 15 up to 45. We are that light that goes out, and we bring the ships in so they don’t crash. We save lives every day. The way I feel about this upcoming election is that Kamala Harris is the lighthouse, too.

Did you ever look back and wish that you had had children or —
Never. Maybe I knew then that I had to be me, in Fleetwood Mac, a huge band that was on its way to being legendary, to be able to be the lighthouse. Not only did it allow me to follow my dream of being this rock & roll woman, but it allowed me to be this person that just wrote this song. I wanted to write something that would be helpful in this situation, because this could be my finest hour. This could be the most important thing I’ve ever done, this song.

I was not looking for this to be like a hit record. I don’t care. I mean, all the people that are my age, we gave up on hit records a long time ago. With everything streaming, it’s like 300,000 plays. It’s like, “What is that?” I don’t know how to maneuver myself around that. And I’m not interested in it anyway, because I’m the only person that isn’t always on a phone.

Is there internet on your iPhone?
It isn’t connected, it’s just a camera.

I’m envious of that.
I hate it. About 10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were. I said, “Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.” She said, “So, who are your rivals?” I just looked at her. It was my steely look. I said, “Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.”

I’m sure you’re glad Fleetwood Mac didn’t have to endure social media.
It would’ve been terrible. We never had terrible paparazzi. Our fans always really honored us and treated us with care. Nobody chased us down. It was all fun. It was never terrorizing. It was never stalking. It was never weird. I couldn’t live like that.

Pop stars are really struggling with that these days, particularly Chappell Roan.
Evidently she likes my music a lot. Me and a friend of mine went and looked at her schedule, and it was outrageous. What she’s already done and then what she’s going into. It’s as bad as any schedule we ever did, and she’s new, and she’s young. I said, “They’ll burn her out if that’s what they want to do, because there’s always somebody to replace you.” It must make them all very fearful. That’s why it’s good that Chappell just said, “Well, go ahead, replace me. I’m canceling because I’m not going to drop dead for all you people.”

Taylor Swift has also been great at setting boundaries.
Do you see my little bracelet? [Points to a friendship bracelet Swift gave her.] I haven’t taken it off for almost a year. She is really smart, but she also went through a lot before. She’s in a good place right now, and I think she has a good man. I hope they fall deeper and deeper in love and ride off into the sunset. He does his thing and she does her thing, and then they come back together and get married and have babies if she wants that. I just want all of that for her.

How do you think Vice President Harris is doing as a candidate?
I think she’s doing great. If [Trump] loses, he’s just going to get in his limo and go back to Mar-a-Lago and probably get another TV show, and have lots of great vacations and play a lot of golf. He’s just going to have fun. Good god, he’s 78. It’s the opposite to “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Nobody has to worry about him. He’s just going to go do what he does.

Do you feel optimistic about the election?
I feel very optimistic about it. I love the fact that she laughs. I love the fact that she’s full of joy. I love the fact that she fell in love with somebody later in her life, and has a family and that they call her “Momala.” I love that. I have great respect for her, being willing to take on such a serious job, with so much going on in the Middle East and Ukraine, which is my heart. It’s like, “I won’t have a real life now for a long time, so if I don’t call you, don’t take it personally.”

I loved your “childless dog lady” photo. But people pointed out that you didn’t explicitly endorse Harris. Do you want to do that right now?
I think I’m totally endorsing her by naming her as a lighthouse. I don’t like the word “endorsing,” but what I like is the fact that she is our great hope to save the world.

You played President Clinton’s inauguration in 1993. Would you perform at Harris’?
I might.

Are you able to understand why so many women see you as an icon?
The word “icon” is difficult for me, because I think of “icon” as a big Greek statue of a girl in a cape. But I’m good with it, because I’ve worked hard to be whatever everybody thinks that I am. I wrote a song once, it’s called “Sweet Girl,” and it says, “I chose to dance across the stages of the world.… Many are the cities that I never saw at all.” That’s what I feel like I’ve done, just dancing across the stages of the world. That’s why I appear to be a lot more youthful than I am, because my spirit is youthful. As long as you can dance, you are youthful. I’m 76, but I’m just incredibly limber. The dancing really comes from that.

[Nicks pauses and wraps her leg around her head to demonstrate.]

What I wanted to do my whole life was affect people. I love telling my stories onstage. That is what makes me happy, and that’s why I’ll never stop touring. Because if I stop touring, then I’ll stop dancing. I go on a summer tour next year, and I [will] do 40 shows. That’s what Fleetwood Mac used to do.… And you know there is no more Fleetwood Mac now, because when Christine [McVie] died, Fleetwood Mac died. We cannot replace her.

Would you ever release a formal statement about it?
I kind of released a formal statement about it at the show, the night before last.

When you said it was the last time you’d dedicate “Landslide” to her.
Since the day she died, we made that montage and we have done that every single night. And I cry every single night. I said, “We have to let her go now. We have to say goodbye to Christine, safe journey.”

What was your last conversation with Christine like?
This is the tragedy of it: I had not talked to Chris for a long time. Fleetwood Mac would be together for two solid years and then we would stop. During that time, when I went to do my own thing and went on tour, we hardly ever talked on the phone. She lived in England. The time difference was screwed up, so it was very hard for us to talk.

We got a phone call from someone. He told us that she was ill. I said, “OK. We’re going to rent a plane right now, and we’re going to come over there.” And then we got a call back. Her family said, “Don’t come until we see how things go here.” Her family is super funny, as was she. They said, “If you and Mick, that tall man, walk into her hospital room, she’ll go, ‘Am I dead?’” So anyway, a few hours later they called and said that she’d died. So I did not get to say goodbye to her. My plan was to go and sit on her bed and sing “Touched By an Angel” to her, like I did with my dad, for two or three hours or however long it took to either bring her back or send her off. I didn’t get to do that, and I was angry.

Because this was a different kind of friend. This was my music soulmate, my best girlfriend. We kept that band afloat, the two of us, by keeping the peace, no matter what. By never letting people carry their problems into the studio, by stopping fights before they started, by making sure that our work was stellar. Even when we were doing lots of drugs, we had our eyes on everyone and everything. We were the keepers of Fleetwood Mac, and that is why we cannot replace her. We did replace Lindsey two times, and it was OK. No fighting, super fun. But Christine was different.

To be fair, you did tour without Christine, from 1998 to 2015.
We did. And it was good, because when you took Chris’ six songs out and replaced them with three of Lindsey’s and three of mine, we became a harder rock & roll band. We were like AC/DC, and it was fun.

So when she called and said, “I think I want to come back,” I’m like, “Well, we’ve turned it into a super rock band now since you left. You need to come and see us in London and make sure that you actually want to come back. And if you do, then we have to change back to the original Fleetwood Mac, and we’re fine to do that.” So she came up and did a song, played organ, and she said, “I want to do it.” I’m really glad now, of course, that that happened.

I had her from 1975 until she died, and I miss her every day. And I just finally realized being onstage, the night before last, in the rain in front of 30,000 people, that it was time for us to let her go. And stop being so sad, because I cried every single night. It’s like, “Fly. We’re not holding you down anymore.”

Did you see Lindsey at Christine’s celebration of life?
Christine threw down a hurricane on top of Nobu, which is where we had it. Almost blew the whole place away, honest to God. Tore down the entire deck that was all decorated and everything. So it was kind of crazy. We all felt like she was there, because it was really intense. The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes. I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.

Do you regret not cutting ties even sooner than you did?
No, I think that all just happened the way it should have. It happened one night, not planned, at a MusiCares [benefit concert]. I didn’t even tell anybody it had happened in my head until the whole ceremony was over. I took with me that night a song that I had done with LeAnn Rimes called “Borrowed.” I took it with me to play for him because I thought we could do this song beautifully. That’s when he wasn’t very nice to anybody; he wasn’t very nice to Harry Styles. I could hear my mom saying, “Are you really going to spend the next 15 years of your life with this man?” I could hear my very pragmatic father — and by the way, my mom and dad liked Lindsey a lot — saying, “It’s time for you guys to get a divorce.” Between those two, I said, “I’m done.”

So you would never even consider a proper farewell tour?
No.

I just always think about when David Crosby died, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, and Neil Young regretted not reconciling.
Well, and that’s true, but they never played near as much as we did. We had lots and lots of time, and lots and lots of tours that could have been the reconciliation tour and “now we’re going to quit” tour. So, I just felt that Christine and I had done everything we could do to make it a happy place. And it wasn’t a happy place anymore.

Is there any other development besides Lindsey’s heart attack?
I’m sure that if there was, I would know. There’s so much heart disease in his family that it’s really not a surprise. So, I wish him the best. I hope he lives a long life and continues to go into a studio and work with other people. He’s also an icon, and he can teach people. He’s not stopped in his tracks. He can still make music and have fun.

For what it’s worth, I think you’re a much larger icon in that regard.
Well, that was one of the problems, wasn’t it?

Before Christine died, she told us that John was not in great health. Do you have any updates?
John’s wife passing away [earlier this year] has been very, very hard on him. I actually have not talked to him since Julie passed away, because he made it very clear that he really didn’t want to talk to anybody until he was miles away from it. I was very close to John, so I’m only following his wishes. When I get home after SNL, I’m going to call him — and a lot of other people that I need to speak with that I haven’t been able to talk to in the last two years — and see how he is and go and see him.

You recently spoke about performing “The Chain” at future solo shows. Would it be a different version?
I found a demo of it that I actually must have had on cassette. It was a whole different song that led into the chorus of “The Chain.” And when we were recording “The Chain,” all they had was the part I call “the monsters are coming” [the bridge]. This great end. And Lindsey said, “You have a song. Could we have it?” And I’m like, “Sure. Why not?” So I just gave it to them. They took that part of the song off, that was the verses. So a friend of mine said, “Did you know that there’s a demo of the first ‘Chain?’” And I said, “No. Can you play it for me?” And I’m going like, “Ooh, that’s a good song. We could do a revised version of ‘The Chain.’” I have already sent it off to Greg Kurstin, who’s one of my favorite producers.

When the TV adaptation of Daisy Jones & the Six was released, you said it was like watching your own story.
I didn’t even want to see it, because I thought I was going to hate it so much. I had Covid when I saw it. I was in my condo in Los Angeles, and I can remember saying, “Am I just watching my life go by?”

Riley [Keough] doesn’t look like me. She’s much snappier than me. I couldn’t be as snappy as her in Fleetwood Mac. Christine and I couldn’t do that, because we were the peacemakers. [Keough] could be totally ****ty and a smart ass and totally arrogant, because she wasn’t even in the band, and they weren’t even nice to her. So that was the biggest difference. But as far as her character went, it was very similar to me. And I instantly wanted to call her and meet her, and I did.

I thought Suki [Waterhouse] was a great Christine — in her Englishness and just the way that she dressed. And you know what I was really sad about? That Christine didn’t get to see that, because she would’ve been so tickled by her. And I thought Billy [Sam Claflin] was spectacular. I thought he captured so much of Lindsey that it was creepy. He had the curls and that dark handsomeness that Lindsey had. One of my favorites was Camila [Morrone]. I thought that Camila and Daisy were a really good combination of me, the two of them put them together.

I really loved the ending, when a dying Camila encourages Billy to give Daisy a call.
I wish that it could go into what if … had Billy come back after Billy’s wife died and knocked on her door, and they decided to make that last record that I always hoped that Lindsey and I would make. That would make a fantastic second season. I talked to [executive producer] Reese [Witherspoon] and Riley about it, and they loved the idea, but everybody’s so busy. Riley’s on her way to becoming a big movie star. But maybe one of these days, they’ll do it. Until I saw Daisy Jones & The Six, I would have never thought it was even possible to emulate our life.

Have you seen the Stereophonic play?
What is that?

It’s an insanely successful Broadway play about a band on the cusp of stardom as they record their new album in Sausalito. So it’s basically … about you … and Fleetwood Mac.
Really?

Yes.
How in the world have I gotten this far without knowing about this?

In 1966, during your senior year of high school, you briefly had a recording contract. Your career would have been totally different, a late-Sixties singer like Joni Mitchell or Linda Ronstadt.
It would have. My dad had a good friend, Jackie Mills, that worked for 20th Century Fox. Jackie flew me down to Los Angeles, and I went in there with my guitar and played three songs. He said, “Well, I think that you’re really good, and we’d like to sign you to 20th Century Fox. We’ll be in touch.” I got home, and we got contracts that were sent really soon. My parents were like, “Well, of course you have to finish school.” And my mom’s going, “She’s going to college.” And I’m like, “OK, everybody settle down. It’s not World War V.”

So we signed them, but there was a clause in Jackie’s contract that’s called a key-man clause. Which means if he leaves, he takes his artists with him. He left probably the summer after my senior year, before I had even gone back down there. I was released. Had I not been released, it was a five-year contract, so that would’ve been ’67, ’68, ’69, ’70, ’71. So that would’ve aced out Buckingham Nicks, Fleetwood Mac. All of it. I probably would’ve lived in Ladies of the Canyon, down the street from Joni and Linda and David Crosby and Steven Stills and Neil Young. I would’ve wanted to be a part of that. That would’ve been super interesting. But I didn’t ever have any doubts that this would be my life. I believe in me. I believe in the Church of Stevie.

Do you have plans to retire, or do you see yourself like Mick Jagger, doing this in your eighties?
Well, if I can stay looking pretty good.… When I think that it’s age inappropriate, I won’t do it anymore. But then I think I would just bring the shows down. I’d be happy to tour all the beautiful gothic theaters of the United States and Europe, and do two hours and be able to sit in a chair for some of it. Do some songs in my whole catalog that I’ve always wanted to do and never done.

I’d love to see you perform rare ones, like “Kind of Woman.”
Really rare ones. I can go all the way back to [sings “After the Glitter Fades”] “I never thought I’d make it here in Hollywood.… For me, it’s the only life/That I’ve ever known/And love is only one fine star away/Even though the living/Is sometimes laced with lies.” That’s a really autobiographical song, because that is how I feel. So, I will be able to sing that song for you when I’m 90. If I’m still alive and healthy, there’s no reason for me to stop doing what I do, because I love it and this was my mission.

It’s not that I want to work this hard in another 10 years, but there is stuff that I really want to do. I want to travel. Harry Styles has three houses in Italy — he loves it so much. I want to go there and rent a place and stay for a while, and travel all over. I’ve been to Rome a couple of times, but never been there long enough to see it.

There’s a sequel in the works to Practical Magic, the 1998 film starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sister witches. I’ve always loved that version of “Crystal” included in the soundtrack.
It’s funny, because “Crystal” was recorded three times. It was recorded for Buckingham Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, and then it was rerecorded for Practical Magic, with me and Sharon [Celani]. Maybe we should record it for a fourth time. I definitely think they should let me be a part of music. As soon as I get home, I’m going to make that phone call and say, “Listen, you have to let me do a song in this, and at least jump off the roof with you guys.”

At this point, how many shawls do you think you own?
I just have the famous shawls, really. I have the “Rhiannon” blouse with sleeves. I have a “Gold Dust Woman” cape. I’ve had two of those over the last 40 years. I had a “Stand Back” cape. I have a white cape that I wore for “Edge of Seventeen” for a long time, but it’s very long. I don’t wear it much anymore. I have a long red one I love. Beautiful fabric. And the blue Bella Donna cape. It’s in perfect shape, like brand new. I got freaked out at one point. People were writing about me being a witch, and I stopped wearing black and I made the girls stop wearing black, too. [Designer] Margi [Kent] made us all-new pale-pastel outfits; it was the Eighties. And then we all looked at each other one day and said, “Why are we wearing these Easter egg dresses? This is not us.”

But I have all those outfits. That’s silk-chiffon stuff, it just never, ever goes away. That’s why they use it for sails. So it’s all in different storage units and cases, and it’s very cared for. Because someday it’ll go out into the world. I love going through all of it. It’s like it’s being in a magical closet, like Narnia.

When was the last time you wore denim jeans?
A very long time ago. I wore nothing but denim jeans for a million years. I wanted to look a certain way in jeans, and when I didn’t feel like I looked that way anymore, I stopped wearing jeans. As soon as I think something starts to get age inappropriate, I stop.

What’s something that you’re really proud of in your career that people might not expect?
I’m really proud of all the stuff that I’ve done. My drawings are very precious to me. I will, maybe next year, do a big art show. I have so much poetry that just doesn’t make it to the piano. Or makes it to the piano and I realize that it’s really just not meant to be a song. It’s a silly thing to say, but I do my own nails. This is the first time they’ve been white in 20 years — I didn’t have time to put the gold on them before the last show. People say, “Who did your nails?” And I go, “Me, because I’m the best manicurist in the world.” Nobody does them as good as me, so why would I let anybody else do them?

So let me get this straight - they're at an event that is supposed to honor FLEETWOOD MAC and she wants to perform a song she did with LeAnn Rimes...on top of having this weird Harry Styles cameo? No wonder the guy lost his cool. The whole situation gets weirder as we learn more.

1. She wanted the band to walk out on stage to one of HER Fleetwood Mac songs
2. She wanted to perform a random track she had done with LeAnne Rimes
3. And btw, Harry Styles is going to sing with us on The Chain.

LOL...Stevie would never try to make the whole night about herself. Never.

Also...how terrible is it that she sat through the ENTIRE pandemic and just now admitted that she never spoke to Christine and couldn't figure out how to make the time difference work!? There's a real good reason the Perfect family told her to pack sand - and rightfully so. Plus she has the nerve to openly admit in the press that she was angry that her wishes were not granted!? un-freakin believable.

Exactly!!! And the interviewer wrote Fleetwood Mac lineup in 2014 and 2015, Buckingham ran into conflict with his bandmates — and with Nicks in particular — leading to him being fired from the group in 2018. Were the 2018 tour dates the conflict she meant? Or she said that just to please Stevie? Because in the past I've only read Stevie's complaints about that MusiCares episode, not the other members.

I mean, all the people that are my age, we gave up on hit records a long time ago. --That does make sense, I agree. There may be few exceptions. But in general, that’s true.

Somehow I’m glad she says Fleetwood Mac is definitely over. I hope Mick and Lindsey agree.

And I don’t see the Fleetwood Mac minus Chris anything similar to AC/DC, but I admit my perception of the SYW sound was different from the other albums.

And what a truly sh*tty thing to say "We replaced Lindsey, that's fine...but Christine is different" Yeah, you had no problem cashing all the checks from 2003-2013.

That's probably something Lindsey would NEVER say about her.

As usual, there's always a new low with Stevie Nicks. Just when you think she can't possibly be a bigger a**hole, she fires right back with more.

The biggest pile of bullsh*t of all time. The keeper of Fleetwood Mac?

• She didn't initiate the '97 Reunion
• She had to be dragged into the Mirage project
• MIA for 90% of Tango
• Had to be convinced to do SYW
• Had to be convinced/partially resented doing the 2014 tour right after the 2013 tour.
• Refused to participate in a final Fleetwood Mac album with Christine.

Sure, Jan. The keeper of Fleetwood Mac. I have to give Mick Fleetwood credit where credit is due. For the longest time, he was certainly instrumental in getting the band back together. It certainly wasn't Stevie Nicks.

"Because this was a different kind of friend. But Christine was different"

I laughed out loud at that part too. Chris rocked her ass off in bands where she was the only female. Even on Heros are Hard to Find the band dabbled in psychedelic rock. Calling Fleetwood Mac ...AC DC is a stretch even for her.
But for her to say that to Chris really had to blow her mind. "Hey Chris, while you were away, we turned into AC DC and Iron Maiden. You better hire a trainer and learn how to yell!"

She still claims that she was best friends with Chris. A best friend that she claims would not speak to each other for years apart.

I love that the interviewer fact checked her. "we replaced Lindsey twice. it was no big deal but we cant replace Chris"
Oh but you did replace Chris and toured and recorded without her for a decade.

The only issue with that is Come was only played during the SYW tour in 2003.
When Stevie would have spoken to Chris about coming back was the 2013 tour. That tour and even the tour before that had nothing remotely like Come or AC DC in the set.
It was a ridiculous thing to say to Chris just like her telling Chris to hire a personal trainer.

I understood that, too. But I don't know how she told Lindsey and what he understood.

About the best friends thing, I do have second thoughts. One of my best friends from the 90s now lives in Chile since the early 2000s. Actually he and his wife (who I know since we were in kindergarten) are both my best friends, and I still think of them that way. When we were young we shared so many very special moments, that to me, are very special episodes of my life.

But nowadays we don't talk often. Specially since they had kids and were kids (already grown), they didn't have time to call or chat. But every time they come to Lima or I go to Santiago we met and it's like it was yesterday.

And when I learned he got cancer (and happily got over it) I flew immediately to Chile to see him and they were more than happy I was there. So to me, best friends no necessarily means to talk or share moments constantly. But that's me. I don't know if Stevie was sincere and what Christine thought about her friendship. I just say it's possible they were still best friends. Or call special friends if you want it.

So Lindsey was fired because he's evil. Yet Harry Styles performed The Chain with Fleetwood Mac: https://www.reddit.com/r/FleetwoodMac/comments/194zwpu/harry_styles_with_some_fans_at_the_infamous/
She doesn't want to see Lindsey ever again yet every interview, concert, or speech has Stevie mentioning Lindsey. In her own solo induction speech into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she mentioned Lindsey's name multiple times, Harry did, and Lindsey was in the video package for her solo induction. She didn't even say Mick, John, or Christine's name in her induction speech, why did she mention Lindsey's? Per Stevie's historical account, Mick and Fleetwood Mac wanted Stevie in their band and took Lindsey as a favor to her or because they felt bad for him.

Stevie has eliminated anyone from her circle who would challenge her. For those five years she brags about spending at "San Jose State," she doesn't come off as a student with a great amount of intelligence. That's why she hired Irving to protect her.

Christine was her best friend in the whole world. But now she was a different best friend: a musical soulmate - yet Stevie never made a duo album with Christine or had her on a solo recording.

What a line of crap about being so busy. Was she forced to go out on a casino setlist tour for two years? What did she do between all of those long breaks in between tour legs. She bragged about recording Songs From The Vault in weeks. Hasn't released an album in 10 years? Blame her uninspired 2 year tour that she was forced to do. The truth is she was lazy.

Also claiming she's youthful for 76? She hardly moves on stage anymore but for the shaking of her head during Gold Dust Woman. And you can see videos online of her needing to be walked by people.

Is Karen like a home health aide now? Might be time for a care home for Stevie. She does not sound intellectually well.

The fact that she’s presenting herself as this liberal Democrat lighthouse is comical. I don’t care what anybody says about people kissing on television. I’m gay and Madonna, Britney, and Christina broke down a barrier by kissing at the VMAs and Stevie viciously attacked Madonna for that. I am not a Madonna fan but Madonna is bisexual. That was known before 2003, in the 90s. A true liberal Democrat would not have spoken the words Stevie did. And she said Madonna was too old to kiss Britney and Christina. Stevie said that at age 55. And here Stevie is talking about everything she can do at age 76 now! This lady is so Trumpian in her ways it’s sad. And she wishes him well to go play golf…she should wish him to prison!

The thing is -- for people who aren't used to Stevie's schtick or for her devoted fans, they'll take her word as the truth. There are some parts that are true -- she's probably smart to stay off of social media, and she is an icon -- she created an image and wrote those songs. And she's got the right to wear a mask if she wants to -- she's right that getting sick and cancelling shows for any reason would hurt the people who work for her.

But for anyone who's been paying attention to her media appearances for a while, it's kind of par for the course. She constantly centers herself in situations where she should not. Whether it's her posts about RBG or her songs about current political issues, she has no sense of perspective or propriety.

I highly doubt that Chris considered Stevie her best friend. They had a period of time where they were close and experienced some intense moments, but that was 50 years ago. Her regrets about not seeing Chris are all about what Stevie wanted Chris' final moments to be rather than what Chris or her family wanted. I cringe at the thought of her showing up on someone's deathbed to sing Touched By An Angel -- at least do Dreams!

But seriously, I also have serious doubts about her and John being so close.

She is not a peacemaker in this band by any stretch of the imagination. She and Lindsey are 100% of the conflict in the band and have been since at least the late 80s. Chris and John and Mick weren't screaming at each other or at Stevie and Lindsey -- I'm sure Chris and John both found the drama from Stevie and Lindsey to be deeply unpleasant but tolerated it for the sake of touring, while Mick tried to manage it long enough to keep the band recording and touring.

It probably isn't a coincidence that she is using the term musical soulmate -- Lindsey used it to describe Chris when he posted his condolences message on his social media after Chris died. Stevie used to use that line for Lindsey to explain his role in her life. Now she uses it for Chris-- they are almost the opposite of musical soulmates -- their approaches to songwriting and their styles are literally opposites of each other.

Classless to use Chris' memory to promote herself and get another dig at Lindsey, but she is who she is.

But at least this interview makes me glad that the band is never coming back.

The way she is propped up by braindead social media white knights is disgusting. Regardless of whatever arguments or disagreements they've had over the years, it's a two way street. I can't think of a time where Lindsey has been as cut throat about Stevie in the media as she has. It disgusts me that her point of view is the only one we ever get and because of it, she gets propped up as a holy beacon of righteousness.

I can't get over the arrogance of Stevie towards Chris. Chris did not have to ask Stevie's permission to come back but as a good Brit she was full of manners and made that call. Instead of just welcoming her back with open arms, her comments to Chris are almost her looking down on her.
"oh first thing you better do is hire a trainer. We play much harder now like AC DC"
While I will agree this was not to deter Chris from rejoining but its coming from a place of superiority i.e. Chris cant rock like Stevie and clearly is not in the shape as Stevie. Chris actually plays an instrument, Stevie does not. To suggest to a musician they cant rock coming from someone that plays no instrument is quite insulting IMHO.
Chris publicly took issue with the trainer remark. Chris toured when it was old, cheap, hotels for many years night after night. When Stevie joined they rocketed to first class hotels and private jets. To talk this way to a rock icon is very arrogant. I know this was not Stevie's intent. But OMG can you imagine what Chris really thought?
Earth to Stevie.....would you say this to Bob Dylan?

I also have doubts about her and John being so close. But I have seen some Stevie's affectionate gestures toward John. I always felt they enjoyed friendship very cool, but are not best friends.

Like this poster I liked very mucho how she is near John.

Or when she made this gesture at The (Dance) Chain, I always thought she was telling John "we can't break the chain".

And I found this (Mick's book) Rumours "Thousand-Dollar Cookie Session" episode so fun: We spent the night in such a bent condition that not a note was played and the engineers went home. John and Stevie spent hours huddled in a corner, giggling like mad over a copy of Playboy.

She said the brought the Rimes song to "play" for him...not to perform it...

Not sure where people are getting that she intended it to be performed except their imaginations.

That might be my fault, from my earlier post. I guess I don't understand why you would choose an awards show as an opportunity to tell Lindsey about a song you wanted to "do" together. Logically, I assumed it meant she wanted to perform it that night, otherwise why not just give the guy a call? Then again, who am I kidding. We're talking about Stevie Nicks. Not to mention, she gave him and the entire band the middle finger for the prior 3 years as they worked on BuckVie and then she approaches him to do a cover of some duet she did? What a weird, weird flex.

I'm coming to the conclusion that there really wasn't any big "incident" that nobody wants to bring up. Lindsey was/is literally *the only* person in her orbit willing to even remotely challenge her on anything. There were clearly multiple things they did not necessarily agree on that night and Stevie went into a Chernobyl meltdown. One that's been brewing since Christine returned to the band.

The arrogance towards Christine doesn't surprise me in the least. She put together a giant photo montage and manufactured a story about Christine being her best, closest friend in the whole world. Now it's moved onto "musical soulmate". Not only did she do that, but then she goes out and spews the bullsh*t to 15,000 fans each night, for the better part of two years. Just as she did with Tom's death, she made sure to manufacture a big dramatic Stevie moment to incorporate into her show. There are a million different ways she could have done a tribute to either of them without making it about her, but she definitely made sure it was all about her.

All the more reason why she felt it was okay to tell the world she was angry that she wasn't allowed to visit Christine and do what she wanted to do.

One more thing: the entire band basically started to mock her during her 15 minute speech at music cares - and she deserved it. That was a night to honor the entire band and she made sure she spoke the longest - and made no bones about reveling in it.

And said right at the top of that speech that she didn't bother to prepare anything.

Like, I'm sorry, but didn't you 'study Speech Communication at San Jose State for 3 and a half years?' And you didn't bother to prepare anything? She did deserve the L on that one, and what the band did behind her (which didn't come across making to me; just keeping it light) was appropriate, as you said.

ITA, LB is 'always able to reach her.' Frankly, when I hear the two of them speak in interviews, they sound so much alike, that I think a good deal of her whole 'thing' (cadence, intonation, ideas, etc.) came from him in those early days of 1965-1971. He taught her -- and I don't doubt, came to be possessive -- so he knows the real her in ways that anyone post-1973 never will.

She prepared nothing and then spoke more about Tom Petty than her bandmates standing right behind her.

I still find it infuriating that it was Mick Fleetwood that made the first move. He turned to say something to Christine, then Christine started to point to her watch. Lindsey was one of the LAST people on that stage to do anything but stand in silence, but she pinned it all on Lindsey.

I deleted my post b/c I was wrong. The Musicares speech is not the one where she said she didn't prepare -- at least not in this clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM_Wonk4CNM

Yes, I saw that just now too, and thought, why not fire Mick or Christine? Checking her WATCH?? Lol, it was actually pretty funny. LB trying to dance w/ John? Haha

Man, that thing she does where she inserts some factoid and pauses for applause ("it was actually Sly Stone's studio")...just CRINGE.:distress:

It doesn't matter because even when she does prepare something, she usually tosses it aside and mentions to the crowd she's going to ramble instead. It's part of charming, endearing Stevie schtick.

Mock was the wrong word - After a 150 nights of sitting through her 15 minute Gypsy story time, they were trying to keep it light despite some frayed patience.

The kicker is she knew her excessive talking was something acknowledged by the entire band - it was among the first things she mentioned when she got up to the podium. She literally rubbed their noses in it like a child.

I was traveling when I saw the article and was looking forward to seeing the reactions on this site..;) They're all on the mark. Thanks for posting the full text jbrownsjr.

THIS is who she is now. This is NOT who she was back in the good old days, and while we all change and grow and get molded by our experiences in life (good and bad)....she has just...lost.the.plot.

Someone else mentioned Bob Dylan and it's so hilarious because she is in NO position to talk about him or anyone else famous being "nuts" when she is the chief nutjob.

I agree now that her parents are gone Lindsey is one of the few, and yes maybe the only, person who will push back on her nonsense. And yet.....his behavior in the last few years seems to suggest even he is not above capitulating and kowtowing to her.

Chris said in an interview back in the SEVENTIES that Stevie had changed drastically from who she was when she joined FM, and said something like "she now lives in a fantasy world that I'm not part of". Fame messed with Stevie the way it messed with Peter Green (before he took acid) in a curious and opposite sort of way. It messed with his head because he saw the danger of it and it scared him. She, on the other hand, fully embraced it and dove in headfirst.

I shudder to think what her new music will be. After years of nonsense and "albums are done" and "no one buys music" bullsh*t.... she's gonna do an album?? And if she trots out that tired old chestnut "this is the best song I've ever written" one more flipping time.... NO, Stevie, nothing you will write from here on will ever be your best song. That ship sailed a long, long time ago. The thing her solo career revealed is that she doesn't have the trove of "amaaaazing" songs she thinks she does. She has a LOT of songs, and she had a backlog back in the 70s up to Bella Donna because that was her most prolific and frankly the most hungry and creative. Even by WH her trove was thinning out. And then she stopped putting in the same effort.

And her bs regarding Christine's death is just.....the cherry on the top of the nut cake. What forking "right" did she have to be angry about anything?? I'm sooooo glad they c*ckblocked her on that one.

As for John, it's sad to hear how rough going it is for him after losing his wife. I think Stevie and John had a good working relationship. I always did wonder if he was in fact the only one in the band she didn't sleep with at some point... And I always found it interesting how she just clung to his arm throughout that "we didn't fire Lindsey" interview where they debuted the band with Mike and Neil.

Longevity may be linked to genetics, so it may make sense. But you have a point about the drugs issue. All my grandparents died circa 90, or more. And coincidencially they died of cancer. My father did, too. But my mother was the exception, she died at 70, because of diabetes.

So I sometimes I think I'll be 90 someday, I hope not. "Fortunately" though I have not been like Stevie or Elton, I did several mischiefs in my youth, so maybe I won't live that long. And I already got diabetes 2, so who knows.

It's truly disheartening that this band's final chapter seems destined to be marked by the same bitterness and infighting that initially brought them notoriety. At this point, much of that negativity appears to be fueled by Stevie. However, lets not forget the time and energy that several members have invested in treating each other as disposable talent over the past decade—well into their late 60s and mid-70s—is genuinely heartbreaking.

- Mick using language like "we got rid of Lindsey, we're a new band"
- The willingness of all 4 of them to lie about what happened for the sake of a dollar
- the "Sorry Lindsey, I just purchased a house"
- the absolute radio silence from John McVie about any of it
- treating people who are just trying to make a living i.e. Brett Tuggle like garbage.
- Jumping on the chance to replace John McVie during a cancer diagnosis
- the exploitation of a band members death for your own benefit

And now the remaining members are largely alone in one form or another. Divorced, widowed, or isolated by choice...with apparently, very little regard for one another.

For those who have been following since 2014, it's clear now more than ever just how sad, disheartening, disingenuous, and dishonest these folks are. Even with the absence of drugs and substance abuse, next to nothing had changed. Somehow that makes it even worse. They did this to one another sober.

I've been telling you all for over a decade, "Stevie Nicks is the worst thing to ever happen to FM".

And her ending IS actually quite sad. Shows what being surrounded by your paid "yes people" for FOUR(and a half!) DECADES will do to you. She's drank her own Kool-Aid, and here she is, completely delusional, with zero grasp on reality.

I doubt she has any real regrets, though. Because being a STAR was always her #1 goal.

She's truly a loon. There really is a lot to unpack here.
1. Did she really wrap her leg around her neck? Did I read that correctly and why? Sunrise Yoga with Stevie?
2. She's 76 and travels with a gaggle of Barbie Dolls. My grandmother started playing with my niece's dolls as her dementia started to kick in....just saying
3. I thought it that night and I still think it--why did Harry perform "The Chain" with them? They couldn't handle it on their own. I have to assume Stevie jammed that down everyone's throats. Harry is her and Mick's "surrogate" grandson...keep him to your solo career if he's that important to you
4. Good for Christine's family for keeping her 6 times zones away. I mean she still made Christine's death about her, but please imagine what the stories would be like if she was actually there?
5. Good for John for just going underground. I am sure he doesn't want Stevie to have Karen call him for her when she gets home
6. Stevie, if you hate Lindsey so much, take him out of your stories. She hangs on to the past and their history more than he does.

I really would have loved a farewell tour because I really do believe fans were robbed. But that should have been the 2018-2019 tour.
I don't think there will be a new album. And I am not so sure she will hit the road next summer.
I think she really believes the stuff that comes out of her mouth at this point.

Pathological people will utter truth in their ramblings of falsehoods or exaggerations. We get some of this here. Stevie states Christine was her best friend yet admits they go 2 years without talking. How many "best friends" go years without talking?

When Chris joined she spoke to everyone and asked if it was ok. On stage Stevie did her phony English accent of Chris calling her for permission. She almost implied that it was her decision and she had the power with her dream catcher to bring her back. Chris went along with this charade on stage with many nights answering back to Stevie in a shrill and fake British accent. It just reveals that she controlled that band. It was Stevie to decide when the band would tour or record any albums. I applaud Lindsey and Chris for doing their own thing even though it most likely cost Lindsey his last tour with the band.
This interviewer was good but could you imagine a follow up "how many best friends don't speak for years?" They were co-workers and bandmates and only spoke when it was work related. We all have people like this at work. They are not your friends. You don't call them on weekends or invite them to your house. But you work with them fine. When you retire you may not even speak to them ever again. Another sign is Chris's family purposely telling her not to come. That says everything. Best friends would never be told that.

John Run

"To be fair, you did tour without Christine, from 1998 to 2015.
We did. And it was good, because when you took Chris’ six songs out and replaced them with three of Lindsey’s and three of mine, we became a harder rock & roll band. We were like AC/DC, and it was fun."

What am I reading here? She thinks Fleetwood Mac for 1998-2015 was AC/DC? Maybe, I missed The Back in Black Tour 2013, because those are only colors Stevie and Lindsey wear? Also, she said it was fun. How many interviews in the last 10 years have we read where she stated that era was not fun? "The songs did not speak to me"

"Do you regret not cutting ties even sooner than you did?
No, I think that all just happened the way it should have. It happened one night, not planned, at a MusiCares [benefit concert]. I didn’t even tell anybody it had happened in my head until the whole ceremony was over"

So this altercation happened in her head and not in real time?

"Is there any other development besides Lindsey’s heart attack?
I’m sure that if there was, I would know."

What? You just said there was no contact with Lindsey, yet you would know if anything was wrong with him?

"I wish that it could go into what if … had Billy come back after Billy’s wife died and knocked on her door, and they decided to make that last record that I always hoped that Lindsey and I would make. That would make a fantastic second season."

So you wish you could make one final album with Lindsey? You could have released Buckingham Nicks with 2-4 bonus tracks anytime in the last 40 years. You could have made a Fleetwood Mac Album anytime 2007 - 2017. You could call Lindsey today, and say, let's make a duo album, like you and Christine did. Of course, Lindsey, at this point in time, you would have to write all the music and melodies, but give me the solo the writing credit...

If she thinks she would be relevant today without the contributions of Chris, Lindsey, Mick and John she is kidding herself. How the hell can Mick read this crap and let Fleetwood Mac's legacy be trashed by its least talented member.

Her PR team's irresponsibility in continually perpetuating this exaggerated lie that Lindsey was both emotionally and physically abusive towards her, for god sake think of his poor daughters. Taking the last point first -- Stevie had a habit of holding on to some band member's arm during the interviews -- sometimes Mick and sometimes Lindsey too. It's just how she likes to present herself.

I can't get over the disconnect over the stuff she is claiming she is going to do versus what we get. There were these amazing demos largely from BN through Tusk/Bella Donna/Mirage period, and when she went to record them, they largely fell flat (sorry, Lindsey, I didn't like Running Through the Garden), especially the 24K Gold ones. Those were some great songs that really needed someone like Lindsey or Jimmy Iovine or even Rupert Hine to work on them. Dave Stewart has done some great stuff, but the 24K Gold album was super bland, and yet it's still the best thing she's done since OSOTM.

But beyond that, there was the children's series, the movie -- now it's perfume? Good grief.

Stevie was never close to being my hero, but there was once a time I enjoyed her immensely. Sad to say I'm not only disappointed after reading her nonsense, I'm completely disgusted. She's so delusional (and not in the entertaining eccentric kind of way) and bitter to the core, it's no wonder she can't write a decent song anymore. Oh Stevie, please think about what you're saying! Remember, what you say is going to be part of your legacy. Do you, really, want to be remembered for being an arrogant, self-righteous and cold-hearted person? Is this, really, what 'Stardom' has become to you?

Fifteen years is a long time, and you and your other band mates may not have that long. Please make amends with Lindsey, before it's too late! Just communicate like normal people do, at least for your band's fans and before the 'Eyes Of The World'.

Did you learn nothing from spending time with all the great musicians, who you have worked with over the years and have credited you as an inspiration? Musicians including Sheryl Crow, Dolly Parton Elton John, Belinda Carlisle, The Dixie Chicks, Courtney Love and so many others, who are real 'Stars', and human beings, and who will be remembered for their grace and kind hearts?

Who can forget her comments about the devastating fires in Hawaii where she lectured the world about her niece (who was never in harms way) that had to leave college early and fly back home in a private jet while at the same time commenting how wonderful and smart her niece is. Its was so tone deaf. People were burned alive, people were missing, billions of dollars of property gone.
This is how her brain operates which is why her cokey babbles of the 1980s were so hysterical. But today...... IT'S NOT THAT FUNNY.

I think you are right. Also people who may not even be casual fans.

Stevie showed CBS News she has Christine’s ashes on a necklace.

How is that even possible?

the only thing I can think of is that mayyyybe Christine's FAMILY had some jewelry made and shared at the memorial service....??

Because NO ONE else would have access to her ashes. (I was in charge of my dad's).

When asked what she's grateful for, she mentioned her diamond rings and her boots before saying she was grateful for singing with all Tom and others, and NOTHING about FM.

Oh of course she had to show that off on national television. Keep something that personal to yourself? if it makes for a dramatic Stevie moment, all bets are off. What a classless piece of celebrity trash. I’m glad Christine’s family showed her the door.

She seemed fairly sincere in that bit, too.

Weird interview, not much talking. Mostly rehashing VH1 stuff with the same old pictures.

Boy, those lower teeth are looking rough and she can't pronounce an "S" for anything anymore!

Did you catch her respond to the interviewer that she terminated her pregnancy because Lindsey would have been mad she and Don Henley had a child? That was a new one.

Stevie is still hung up at things that occurred when she and Lindsey were in their 30s.

Okay—so here’s my take: I don’t really care if she ever repairs the relationship with Lindsey. Even if she’s being petty or cruel — and she may very well not be — it’s her choice. What I loathe is how she has commandeered the FM legacy and rewritten history to call herself a peacemaker. I loathe that she speaks for the band at all.

Truth is both she AND Lindsey come off as insufferably self-absorbed in interviews, albeit for different reasons and in different ways. I can only imagine how Fleetwood and the McVies managed their forty-five year quarrel. At the same time, it’s also true that the core trio of Brits wanted to tether themselves to their shiny, attractive American bandmates because those two had—and still have—genuine charisma. They might be narcissists, they may also be toxic, but people tune in to watch their dramas and spats, their immature squabbles and resentments. So, in a way, Mick and John sort of let Lindsey and Stevie be the mouthpieces.

Christine always occupied the middle ground—a team player who had moments in the spotlight. Right up to the end, she gave interviews that placed things in perspective. She didn’t do right by Bob Welch until after he died, and she consented to participate in the 2018 circus, but she always came back round to the truth. I miss her so much.

i think she was just saying that she believes in herself...? that she is the guiding force in her own life? as a nonreligious person myself, i have said similar things over the years when pressed my by religious family to pray, like when my son was young and nonverbal etc...i said *I* make things happen for him in terms of therapies etc, not God. it pissed me off when people gave an invisible being credit for something i put so much friggin work and energy into. anyway... i don't think she was saying she thought she was "a God".

We still don’t know the whole story, or the ‘true” story. It’s all shaded by peoples point of view and perspective. When emotions are involved it distorts reality. We just get snippets and small pieces of the story. I do admit the interview left me confused and disappointed in Stevie and her reality. I wish Christine had written an auto biography, I think her side would have been the most accurate. But in the end of the day, this is a person who we really don’t know, and what goes on behind closed doors of her most personal life.

Oh yes----and honestly that was gross. Don't hang your decision on someone else's reaction (real or perceived). I appreciate how open and honest she is about her choice and decision, because regardless of where it's coming from or why, it's important. That said, saying Lindsey would have been mad for her to have a child with someone else is a new low. And let's be honest, we don't know if the world at large would have known she had an abortion, save for Henley telling the world. That's kind of disgusting too. The way she's rewriting the history of the band, and honestly the way she's being allowed to do it is the saddest of all.

She's nuts, truly truly nuts. Kids, don't do drugs

The article was disturbing on many levels. I choose not to follow Stevie down this rabbit hole.

She can try, but she can’t rewrite history. There are too many interviews spanning 50 years. With AI compiling and summarizing details on a massive scale this one article will be simply one drop in a very large pool of FM/SN data. Unless of course AI decides it is a Stevie Nicks fan; then this account will stand as the truth.

I will always love her music no matter which road she chooses in life. How she presents herself to the world is her choice. Her life has been strange and intense and wild. .

Agree.. the bottom teeth look.... uncared for. Which seems unlikely...so I wonder if she had veneers removed. Very gappy bottom teeth that don't appear very white at all....

And unbelievably slurry speech, which sounds like a very pronounced lisp... It's as if her tongue is swollen up after a dental appointment or something...you can actually sort of see it when she talks (and I don't mean I think she had an actual dental appointment before the interview LOL)

Most telling thing in the interview, which she said more than once, was like "I am very good storyteller" or "I tell very good stories" (I don't have access to the recording at the moment). Indeed....don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Something else I noticed... she does NOT seem to smile at ALL throughout the interview. Not with her mouth but also not with her EYES. She SAYS all the right things, but watch it with the sound off... and she does not ever look happy once; she looks cranky. Old Stevie used to have a sense of humor.

You're right! I don't know why she doesn't, just, replace her top and bottom teeth with new, natural looking, implants.

There are a lot of credible implant dentists that would be able to do this in one day! Lord knows, she can afford it. It might give her the confidence she needs, to smile and feel happy.

Then, she can pronounce her 'S's' again! Maybe she's still smoking, just like Barbara used to.

Cigs? I doubt it. She's pretty uptight and preachy about these... "If you smoke, please stop..." and a few years ago at some show/festival in the South where she essentially shamed the whole front section for someone smoking there, and it was "blowing right into her face."

The ganj? Why not, she lives in LA. My bets would be on vaping, if anything though, due to her precious health. And so, probably not even that. I do suspect she has a jar full of sugar-free, gluten-free all natural gummies though, somewhere. For when she's done with her yogurt and baby carrots. You know, 'just to go to sleep' or something equally ridiculous.

Stevie to RollingStone in January 15:
For all of that – and a nasty confrontation when Buckingham left the band for a while in 1987 – Nicks never quite gave up on a possible future together until he had his first child in 1998. “Because we started out so young together, both Lindsey and I would always laughingly say – which we both knew was never going to happen – that, like, when we were 90, and everybody else was dead, maybe we would end up together in an old folks’ home, because of what we had gone through, just him and me, for a long, long, long time. So when his first child was coming, I think we were walking in an airport, and I said, "Well, I guess we’re never going to get to that old folks’ home.” And he’s like, "Yeah, I guess we never are." It was something that we said in kind of a poignant way.

So get this. One of my friends posted a video link to Stevie’s interview from last Sunday and people made comments ( this was on Facebook). Some people got to arguing over whether Stevie supported Lindsey or vice versa etc during the early days before they joined FM.

One of Stevie’s former backup singers comments and was quite rude to fans and essentially said that because we are simply fans and never stayed at Stevie’s House or toured with Stevie, FM etc we don’t know the whole story. She even mentioned one of them in a comment.

This person responded by asking what in their comments was a lie ( living off the inheritance from his dad, touring with Chuck Berry, The Everley Brothers , him having that telemarketer job for like a day and then they both decided that that it would be better if she worked while he stayed home to work on their music etc ) they got a response that basically said I know the truth and I’m not going to waste my time.

Like seriously???? Any big fan of the band knows the story and why would you discount them simply because they didn’t tour with them or stay at the house.

In my opinion it’s the hardcore fans who know the extensive history

Do you think there would have been fewer album and ticket sales without it? I think they would have made a lot of money if they sold the Fleetwood Mac history merchandise, like the Star Wars toys.

I admit I enjoyed those looks of love while they sang during the 1997 shows. I knew it was an act, they weren't fooling me at all. But I find it cool anyway. But that was 1997. It fit perfectly with the reunion mood.

I do think the looks of love and the romance of Stevie and Lindsey are what made The Dance go viral, in today’s terms. A lot of the promotion — videos, interviews, etc. — focused on the “healing” and chemistry of Stevie and Lindsey. They got a huge amount of the spotlight on that tour. And most people did think it was real and speculated that maybe they’d get back together. I was also around back then and I think it drove a lot of people to this site as well because it was the confluence of early internet fan culture and a viral tv moment.

While I do think the quality of the performance alone without the Stevie/Lindsey moments would have made The Dance successful, I think it would not have been nearly as successful as it turned out to be.

Also, not for nothing, Stevie may have benefited most of all. After Street Angel, she was not in a great situation — she believed she was overweight and said she would never perform at that weight again. Cut to The Dance and she’s lost weight and part of a torrid romance on stage that gets rebroadcast night after night. And it’s those parts of the show —especially Silver Springs — that the younger generations have been especially drawn to.

Yes, agreed. I certainly fell for it — not the romance but the healing. I assumed that the five would carry on to a richly rewarding second career, so to speak, and record great albums that pioneered a new, more mature and sophisticated aesthetic for a band of accomplished fifty-somethings and take to the road in a communal spirit in the years after 1997. Boy, was I taken for a fool.
