New Fleetwood Mac social media pages have fans in a frenzy
by Connor Gotto October 15, 2024 in News
Fleetwood Mac fans are hopeful of new activity from the band after a series of new social media pages appeared online.
Over the weekend, an official Instagram account for the group was launched, with singer Stevie Nicks and drummer Mick Fleetwood among the eight followers of the page, which is currently set to private.
Additionally, a TikTok account has also appeared and, although it has no content as yet, already has almost 14,000 followers.
The Don’t Stop hitmakers last performed together in 2019 and doubt was cast over the future of the group following the death of singer, songwriter and keyboard player Christine McVie in 2022.
But that hasn’t stopped fans from sharing their excitement, with one writing on Reddit: “It would be so amazing if this amounted to something like a reunion of the remaining four.
“Has John [McVie] been coaxed out of retirement? Have Stevie and Lindsey [Buckingham] buried the hatchet? One final public tribute to Christine [McVie] and then curtains?”
“Fleetwood Mac making an official Instagram and TikTok we are cooked,” added another, while a third asked: “What the flip is about to happen?”
The appearance of the new pages coincides with Stevie’s stint as a musical guest on last weekend’s instalment of Saturday Night Live (SNL), during which she performed her new single The Lighthouse and the classic Edge Of 17.
In the past, the band’s frontwoman has ruled out a potential reunion, insisting earlier this year: “Without Christine, no can do… There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”

Is this the account? https://www.instagram.com/fleetwoodmac/
It appears as private. Not the best idea if you want to encourage a revival. Meanwhile, the last post in the official Facebook account is from july. Isn't that weird?
Anyway, though I'm just curious, I'm not interested in any kind of reunion.

I would be up for a sit down interview with all of them with any and all questions asked. A real, sit down, no way out interview. And then maybe a ring of coleslaw that they can all get into and wrestle. I’d pay money for that.

I don't want to feed into the frenzy "are they or aren't they", but Stevie did a sit-down with CBS Sunday Morning recently, it hasn't aired yet, but let's assume she filmed it when she was in NY for SNL. The marketing around it is "Coming Soon" with a picture of Stevie and her interviewer. I think it's the same interviewer from when she did a sit-down with them during Covid. Again, I don't want to feed into the frenzy, but why not just announce the Sunday morning it's airing. It would be a breath of fresh air from all of the political mud slinging that is usually on the news on Sunday mornings.
Makes you ponder if they are waiting to air it closer to an announcement of something?

Please, no. I suppose that there may well be hundreds of thousands of people out there willing to go to a gig with potentially just Lindsey, Stevie and Mick but I'm not sure my stomach could take it. If they were to brush up an unreleased Christine song into a final Mac track, that might be some sort of fitting closure.

If only Stevie had not been such a turd and added vocals to the BM tracks and submitted some of her own. I don’t really want a Beatles Anthology “Real Love” or “Free as a Bird” but I guess one more Christine Track would be nice wi try some good SN and LB vocals. I like a Christine better than John Lennon. She had more talent in her pinky than his whole body.

I don't like being seemingly egregious about Stevie as she has demonstrated considerable talent and undeniable star power but it's the latter that has, as you so appositely put it that has made her act like a turd, and I have to concur. I'm not so sure about the Christine/Lennon comparison, though!

I remember one lovely interview in whcih Christine said she would love to work with Paul McCartney before she had an attack of modesty and said something like "I'm setting myself a bit high there" or something like that. It's a shame it never happened as it could have worked out. Paul seems the most apt of the Beatles to compare Christine to. Same goes for Stevie and George. Not so sure and Lindsey and Lennon. Poor old Mick and Ringo always seem to get paired together as the butt of drummer jokes, rather unfairly in my admittedly unprofessional view.

If Stevie's doing a CBS News interview, to me, she'd be speaking about her new song, solo concerts next year, and maybe an upcoming album. If there was a FM interview, my belief is Mick would be doing it with Stevie.

Apparently, in the world of musical healing, this recent late night singer said over the weekend she can work once again with her former band partner. Looks like the band is getting back together.

It’s sad how many people seem to buy the rumor of a reunion, but even sadder than they don’t seem to care whether or not John’s part of it. If Fleetwood Mac can exist without John McVie, what’s stopping Stevie from getting Waddy, Tom, and Gary back together and going out as Buckingham Nicks with Neil Finn?

LOL...really now? you're that sad and surprised? They had no issue with going out as Heartbreaker-Crowded House-Mac (which you spoke many praises of) and now you've got crocodile tears because people don't care about John McVie. Mick and Stevie were ready to replace him in 2013.
The sad reality is - of all the members of Fleetwood Mac, the general public could care less who is playing that bass line in The Chain. As long as the Bud Lite is flowing and Stevie Nicks is there to do her schtick, Irving has his cashflow lined up.
Welcome to the club. You told all the Lindsey fans here to suck it up not that long ago. As you would say - John McVie isn't putting butts in seats!

Certainly though BigAl, to be fair. You even see the difference of having the McVie's absent vs. Buckingham (who actually quit once).
When we just talk about the core of having both McVie's gone, can you really call it FM? I mean, it was starting to deteriorate in 2014, let alone 2025 without two McVie's.
Buckingham/Nicks are not FMac. FMac saved both of them and gave them careers, and they in turn saved Fmac. But they still aren't FMAC. :wavey:

From the last posts I would say you guys are talking about a supergroup, like Asia or Traveling Wilburys. Depending on the members, it could be interesting.
But it would have nothing to do with a Fleetwood Mac reunion, which I hope never happens, IMHO.

As a Fleetwood Mac fan...yes, of course if both McVie's are absent I wouldn't consider it Fleetwood Mac.
My real point was - nobody should be surprised if John's absence isn't noted/weighted in the same regard as the folks around here would. John doesn't sing, didn't write the hits, and stayed in the background most of the time. Of all the members of the band, he is the easiest to replace with minimal impact to the general public, or the casual fans buying tickets. By far, less noticeable than Neil Finn singing Go Your Own Way and Mike Campbell limping through the guitar parts.
Stevie has said it herself - she won't do Fleetwood Mac without Christine now, but she was ok with replacing John back in 2013.
Hardcore fans have more respect for the "core" members of the band than the actual band itself does! They've all agreed to do tours with various lineups for their own gains.
Also for the record - Lindsey has quit, Stevie has quit, Christine has quit. Lindsey is not the only member of the Rumours 5 to have quit the band.

But that is the point. Mick has no shame. Fleetwood Mac fans do care. But the masses and casual fans would pay big bucks for whatever kind of reunion that includes Stevie Nicks. Well we have to agree to disagree because Mick has kept the door open. Did he not say he is hoping for a Stevie/Lindsey reunion? I would not read too much into that except for the fact that Lindsey has always said he was open to return. Has not Mick sort of backtracked from his statement right after Chris's passing? I think he has and has not shut down any reunion talk. Dont blame the fans for reading Mick's tea leaves. I know the history of this band. It would not surprise me for a second this would happen.

Me too. Some sort of new Fleetwood Buck entity with some other talent could be quite fun. I suppose it wouldn't have the potential to bring in so much cash, though.
I do hope there's not some sort of Eagles-type reconfiguration going on with the Mac. John would be subbed, and Stevie could demand a new female presence on keys/vocals. Having said that the current Eagles have had some good reviews, I gather after Glenng Frey's passing. I suppose Mick, Stevie and Lindsey can do what they want, but we don't all have to buy into it if it happens.
Isn't John legal co-owner of the name "Fleetwood Mac"? He would have to be ok with it all, although doubtless some royalty/licensing deal would be due to him assuming he really has completely retired. I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, here, I admit.

John would still have been a member of the band. What was proposed would have been a temporary situation to fulfill contractual obligations, like when The Beatles played eight shows with Jimmie Nicol when Ringo was ill.

I will repeat that I'm not interested in any kind of Fleetwood Mac reunion. It's my personal opinion. However I can't criticize casual fans.
For example, I'm an Eagles casual fan. If I have had an easy opportunity to see them after 2016 (like being in a city on the day they will play), with Glenn's son (or anybody) replacing him, I'd probably have. I know it's not the exact situation as Fleetwood Mac today, it's just an example. Cause thinking as a casual fan of any other band, since I have no complete details of their trajectory/situation, my decision could be to wish for a reunion because I just want to enjoy their music. Or maybe not. I was never interested to see Styx without DeYoung. So it depends on each case.

Me, either. Stick a fork in it.
I tell you, I went to two Eagles concerts with Deacon, and it was very touching. After he sang his first song of his Dad's, they put up a huge pic of Glenn on the screens, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house(including mine, and I think Glenn was a complete douchebag- at least in the early years). You know though, just like FM, I think it's time for them to pull the plug, too. Go out with some grace, not in a wheelchair.

That’s a line I don’t see Mick being willing to cross unless it’s a Steve Jordan situation where John handpicked his successor.
OTOH, Dennis posted a picture of him and Mick saying there’s an announcement coming soon, so who knows?
Regardless, without a McVie, it’s by definition not Fleetwood Mac.

Mick and John are the only constants and the band’s name is a portmanteau of their surnames.
But that isn’t Al’s point. His point was butts in seats, and John McVie doesn’t put any more butts in seats than Lindsey would have. For the people Al is talking about, John is no more integral to a Fleetwood Mac concert than Lindsey or Mick is. Nicks is the only one who fills the arenas, if that’s your reasoning.
My own opinion about a “reunion” is that Lindsey would find any configuration pointless that didn’t consist of him, Stevie, and Mick at this stage. Without that trio, he probably wouldn’t consider a reunion meaningful — after all, there’s no Fleetwood Mac legacy with Sheryl Crow or other outsiders. Assuming Lindsey wants to reunite with this band at all, he wants to reunite with Stevie and Mick (if John were still working, he would want John too). I doubt that Lindsey wants to form a largely new band and then call it a Fleetwood Mac legacy move. When he refers to the legacy, he’s referring to the music that they made for the white album, Rumours, Tusk, etc. Isn’t that obvious by now?

I don't disagree with you. It would not be Fleetwood Mac without the McVies.
Where I disagree with you is your opinion of Mick. One last cash grab would have Mick sell Biddy's Britches. I don't think John would protest.
Mick would do it for the money
Lindsey would do it for the pleasure
Stevie would only do it to please Mick and try and re-write history and have much say into what happens.

Regardless, without a McVie, it’s by definition not Fleetwood Mac.
But definitions are context-dependent. The context may be legal, musical, historical, whatever. If Mick and Lindsey release an album and call it Fleetwood Mac (and John isn’t anywhere in sight), we can argue the suitability or justice of the name, but we can’t argue the fact. If the name is emblazoned across the front of an album, it just is. If Azoff or some other money guy wants to push Mick, Lindsey, and Stevie out on tour without John and call it a Fleetwood Mac tour, whaddya gonna do, Steve? Argue that it really isn’t Fleetwood Mac?

I doubt John is actually a co-owner of the name Fleetwood Mac. In Mick’s book, Mick acknowledged the name was a mash up of their names, but John wasn’t actually in the band until later. Not that that makes a difference, I just thought it was interesting that Mick coined the name even though John hadn’t agreed to join at that time.
I also have a feeling John could not care less whether Mick, Stevie, Lindsey, or any other combination toured under the name Fleetwood Mac without him. John is done.

Peter Green actually coined the name "Fleetwood Mac"- that's been pretty well established- he gave it to the name of an instrumental track Peter, John and Mick recorded together whilst all three were still in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. .
Mick and John seem to own the trademark "Fleetwood Mac" so they can do what they want with it, I guess.

You know though, just like FM, I think it's time for them to pull the plug, too. Go out with some grace, not in a wheelchair.
Oh yes I agree with that and with every singer or band. There's a moment they have to say farewell.

What did Christine once say- something like "there's only so many times you can put the vase back together".

So, it would be okay to go out as Fleetwood Mac with a bass player other than John, but Sheryl Crow is somehow out of the question? What’s the difference?
If Azoff or some other money guy wants to push Mick, Lindsey, and Stevie out on tour without John and call it a Fleetwood Mac tour, whaddya gonna do, Steve? Argue that it really isn’t Fleetwood Mac?
You know damn well that’s exactly what I’d do. I’d point out that they didn’t call it Fleetwood Mac when those three made “Twisted” back in 1996.
Like, those three can tour, but just start an offshoot, like Dead & Co., and let Fleetwood Mac be.

And, at least Deacon was Glenn’s flesh and blood. It made sense. Assuming he stays in music, he’ll probably have to do an obligatory Eagles song every show, so he might as well have it on his résumé.
But Fleetwood Mac without a McVie? Yikes! Although, I could maybe handle it if it was Dan Perfect.

I don't know what you guys think about Queen without Freddie, but that's a band I did want to see lately. Adam Lambert is a great show man, and from the videos I have seen, I know I would have enjoyed their concert a lot. Except for... last tour they did, I was in Dallas the day they played there, but when I saw the cheapest available ticket was around $1,000, and it wasn't even close to the stage, I said no way.
And at least they don't dare to be named Queen. They are presented as Queen + Adam Lambert.

I don't know if the "activity" mentioned fits also into this, but I think we must be aware anyway.

It has come to our attention that there has been a recent rise in fake social media accounts claiming to be Lindsey or members of his team, contacting followers and attempting to sell access to him in exchange for money. It hurts us to know that there are people in the world looking to take advantage of this community in that way.
Please note that communication from Lindsey and his team will only ever come from this official account. If you are approached in any other way, please be aware they are an impersonator. Importantly, Lindsey and his team would never attempt to solicit payment for personal access. We are actively working to remove these scam accounts across all social media. In the meantime, your help is invaluable - every time you block and report a fraudulent account, you're helping Lindsey's community.
Stay safe.

Oh, so that post about him getting Stevie pregnant and they are running off to New Zealand together but need help with airline tickets is fake?

No, but the post about her and Rod inviting to their long lost son bar mitzvah, who was conceived during the Heart & Soul 2011 tour, that is fake.

Will John give permission to use the name Fleetwood Mac for some lineup that doesn't involve either McVie or Buckingham? If it means he can earn a few million without leaving the house....probably?
