Indeed, exciting. I was thinking the same thing re: something to promote!
I'd love a moment of singing between Arianna and her, too.
I'd REALLY love it if she showed up in a skit, but that may be wishing for too much.

Probably won't be promoting anything new since it's only a few weeks away. But it's great that she'll be back on SNL. I'd imagine "Stand Back" and "Landslide" or "For What It's Worth" as the encore.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. Its to bad she doesn’t have anything new to push unless she has one new song to feature off this new possible project.

Stevie will probably sing a concert standard, right? (“Stand Back” and “If Anyone Falls” are always good choices.) If she does a second song, she and Ariana could do “Best of My Love” or “The Sad Cafe” in honor of J. D. Souther.

Yeah, hearing one of the new songs she had been working on would be great. But I'm not sure how confident she would be dropping new material on live TV.
She'll be in Philly on Sep 28 for a rescheduled show, so it probably worked out logistically to be on the show at that time.
The more that I think about it... Peforming "The Chain" might be interesting and radical for Stevie.

I'd love for this to be a sign that we're getting new material soon, but I suppose even if she's promoting something, that something could end up being a tour, another compilation, etc.

Stop Draggin, Second Hand News, and Edge with Keith Urban?
I would like that!
When she appeared with him on NYE in Nashville in 2020, he did Second Hand News in his set, and she was out singing with him on Love Somebody Like Ewe, and he jumped into playing the Edge riff on guitar in the middle of his song. She just started shaking her head no. She went ahead and sang a chorus of it, which was lame AF without her backup singers, singing the real notes. I've got video of it somewhere.
https://youtu.be/8MNH9vJ527w?si=tndMxh2PMTdJdHrI
Found it on YouTube. He starts the riff at 4:40, and she kicks in at 5:20. It actually doesn't sound as bad as I remembered(I live about 4 blocks from where they put on the NYE show, so I was there for it - I mean, it was FREE ).

It is possible- the members all get comp copies, and she was aware of previous rereleases. Except for the fact that she probably got her free copy weeks ago, I would agree with you. Likely laying around in her mansion somewhere lol.

To be fair, I don't think I ever found the "What up with that?" thing very funny, except when Lindsey actually did turn up. Paul Simon is in the background and it's hard to tell if he's admiring Buckingham's fingerpicking or is thinking "hey, isn't that the guy who put Kodachrome into the chorus of Peacekeeper?

I respectfully disagree SpyNote!:xoxo: These are "make up" shows so they may get the summer 2024 setlist. She still has two weeks to rehearse after the September 28 show.
We know Stevie told Mike Campbell in 2022 she recorded songs with Greg Kurstin - one called "The Vampire's Wife". Considering the song is 2, maybe 3 years old for all we now - I think she'll perform that and Stand Back so she can do her twirl dance and show the youngin's that she can still move on stage.

She's going to release a new song before SNL so the public hears it first. It would be embarrassing, and I'd be be embarrassed for Stevie, if she went on SNL and performed one or two of her hits/classics and her Buffalo Springfield cover. That would just be a total waste of an opportunity that would likely never come again.

I just think it would be pathetic if she was the musical guest on such an enormous show and did two old songs. Again, Jagger was the musical guest and I forgot he was the host in 2012 and he did three old songs but I think him doing the show was A) celebrating 50 years of being in showbusiness and B) having the greatest living frontperson on the program. Also he had a different band with him for each song: The Foos, Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck Band. Did you watch that episode? It was awesome. Mick was on fire.
Stevie will be welcomed like an Emperor at SNL. Maybe she'll talk for 13 minutes about cleaning a house and working as a server 50 plus years ago.

Another possibility... Edge and Leather & Lace. She's done Edge more recently on TV, like for Ellen and AGT so that tight 4:00 version might work. I was thinking a duet might be fitting for the second song, since they did Nightbird last time.

I can only think of Today Show in 2005 when she performed in support of the Habitat for Humanity build for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Even the today show showed a picture of TISL and said it was her latest album on the show…4 years after its release!

Not so strange for her. She never played Desert Angel on her summer tour when the troops were coming home in the summer of 1991. She never played Illume in NYC in her first visit back to NYC in 2003 where she was trapped in 2001.
If you listen to her and other Mac members they were burned by fans for performing too many Rumours songs on the 1976 tour. Fleetwood Mac had the most casual and fickle fans ever (excluding us). Seriously though something about this band and members their "fans" dont want to hear new music. They want to twirl to Stand Back and sing along to Landslide.

how long between now and the SNL show?? Is she done her tour? I thought I saw someone post a video on youtube saying it was the last show of the tour.
She would have to rehearse the hell out of a new song... if she were still touring I'd say there's no way to fit that in. If the tour is done, and she can get the band to stick around and rehearse the song a zillion times.....MAYBE she'd do it on SNL. To me this means her having Waddy as musical director rehearse the band to death on it before she ever shows up a week or so later to try and rehearse and work out her vocals.
Even then it's a risk. I'm still inclined to think that she won't do it.... but if I were her PR team, I'd sure want her to do it. The song is so long it would def need to be cut down...I'd vote to cut a lot of that 2+ minutes of whispery Baby Jane at the beginning and get to the rocking part sooner. But given her constant whine about how audiences don't want to hear new songs live, they want to hear the hits they know....I'm still highly doubtful.

‘SNL’ Promo: Ariana Grande & Bowen Yang Try Dirty Tricks, But Stevie Nicks Wins In A Landslide
By Erik Pedersen
October 10, 2024 3:50pm
'SNL' promo Ariana Grande & Stevie Nicks
From left: Bowen Yang, Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks
NBC via YouTube
Don’t stop thinkin’ about dreams comin’ true for a young pop star.
Ariana Grande is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and today we got a mini-preview of her with musical guest Stevie Nicks as the Fleetwood Mac legend joined the young hitmaker and SNL‘s Bowen Yang for a fun promo. Watch it below.
The second of two quick-hit clips sees Yang noting that this will be Grande’s second time hosting the late-night stalwart. Grande replies, “Well, you know what they say: Lightning strikes maybe once, maybe twice.” MacHeads know that lyric from the band’s 1982 hit “Gypsy,” and it didn’t sneak past Nicks. “You can’t trick me into singing,” she admonishes.
Yang tries to change the subject by asking Grande how her weekend was. “It was good,” she replies. “You know, I climbed a mountain and I turned around…” Yang jumped in with, “And I saw my reflection on the snow-covered hills…”
Cue anticipatory pause.
After a beat or three, Nicks caves: “And the landslide brought me down,” she sings.
Cue wild celebration from Grande and Yang over “Landslide,” the double-platinum single from Mac’s 7 million-selling eponymous album.
Saturday Night Live airs at 8:30 p.m. PT/11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Live, of course.

SNL doesn't say what she'll sing:
Stevie Nicks is the October 12 Musical Guest
The Musical Guest for Grande's episode will be Stevie Nicks. The singer-songwriter first rose to fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac, and her solo career includes hits such as "Wild Heart" and "Edge of Seventeen."
Nicks released the single "The Lighthouse" on September 27, 2024. This will be her first Saturday Night Live performance since December 10, 1983.

I noticed this too!
Getting her natural teeth (which were much larger, see her top front teeth in old early FM/Rumours pics) replaced at some point with the more even, and smaller, teeth she has now (and has had for some time) really messed with her speech.
She's been super lispy for a long time.... this was part of the discussions on here about her singing on the 24kt Gold album....very slurry and slushy, especially any "S"s . It definitely seems even worse in her speech in those promos...
I also thought her hair looked especially tatty. I wanted to tell her to get a new wig...:distress:
That said, she is fast approaching 80 and still out there banging that tambourine, which, as someone over 2 decades younger than her and really starting to notice the effects of aging, I really do admire. However at some point you have to look like older you, not a faded version of younger you, if you know what i mean..

I'm not a dentist but I think other than some caps and whitening, work on her teeth has been minimal.
Personally, I also doubt she wears a wig. Extensions, maybe, but not a wig.
I think she looks and sounds pretty good….even the perm.

Oh yes I remember Darkest Hour movie when Churchill (Gary Oldman) made that gesture and was later warned by his secretary that palm facing inward does not mean Victory. She said it means "Up your bum, Sir."
Apparently Churchill didn't know that.

I think she did a great job. Doing a complicated new song live on TV that few know is not her comfort zone. Glad she did not do Stand Back.
The song is a little too long, and by the end I was shouting…yeah I get it.
But that said she looked and sounded just fine.
It is an atmospheric song and that was created.

I think the whispery intro actually would have worked well for the new song when done live. At least until the minute mark when the instrumentation starts to pick up; not for nearly half the song like the recording.
There is something about studio microphones and the isolation of the vocal in a recording booth that isn't conducive to that "soft" voice in the recording. The constrained and insular quality of the voice as accentuated in the recording is something that I doubt would have been present live.

I've been really critical of the current Stevie, but I thought she did a good job. With that said, I would not go see her live again. The last time I saw her live was 2003 and I could already see the decline. I would rather keep the memories I have of the early performances. The hand movements started heavily during the SYW tour. I think that it's more about having someting to do with her hands, like playing the faux tambourine. At least she didn't have the horrible gloves on.
As far as her current voice goes, if fans still get some enjoyment from it then who am I to say? Of the aging singers Wille Nelson sounds about the worse and fans still want to see him. In some ways it seems better go out while you still have some abilities left, but obviously others see it differently.

I always thought the hand movements picked up around the time she couldn't do as much dancing and running around onstage anymore, possibly due to her foot injuries and whatever residual limitations came from that. She's clearly had to change out her footwear over the years, which also seems to point to wear and tear to her feet over the years in such high shoes that may have started taking a toll. Her footwear has also become over the years increasingly more "stable".... like flatter soles that have more grip. It looks to me anyway like she wears some sort of ankle stabilizing inserts in her footwear for several years now too. (I believed her when she talked about how much her 'crackhead' dance on GDW wore her out on tour a few years back).
It's easy to forget, she's closing in on EIGHTY. So... there's also osteoporosis risks after menopause and NO ONE wants mama to fall and break a hip.
So she's become very good at creating the illusion that she's moving around more than she is by waving her hands and shawls around. She also benefits from tech and the ability to put all sorts of movement on the screens and lights in her stage set. When I think back to FM/Rumours Mac, when all they had was that bare tree backdrop... and any visual interest had to come from the band members...
I thought she put lots of effort and as much energy as she could into the SNL performance which is great at her age. But her voice is really shot and to me anyway sounded like it had some little bit of technological tweaking to it.

I’m glad Stevie is still out there performing …. She still looks beautiful for a lady pushing 80. I remember in 2001 when Grace Slick made the comment about “rock and rollers over 50 looking stupid out there on stage”— there was a lot of pushback from fans. Stevie has always said she would tie ribbons on her wheelchair and keep on rocking. As long as Stevie can still draw a crowd there is no reason for her to stop. When Joni Mitchell sang Both Sides Now at the 2024 grammy’s sitting on a throne — I thought of Stevie and hoped she too would still be rocking into her 80’s. It was nice to see that she was given a national platform (SNL) to perform. She is keeping herself relevant and that is obviously very important to her

That says a lot about the respect people have for the band members of Fleetwood Mac.
Personally, I miss her original voice. The 'Silver Springs', 'Straight Back', 'Crystal', and 'Dreams' voice! That is the voice I fell in love with all those years ago.
Age affects us all, sooner or later and as some people have already commented, it's better to bow out in dignity rather than be criticized because you can no longer do what you used to be able to do! Just look at the, current, president. Sometimes it's not easy to retire and he realises that the best way to try to honour his legacy, is to try to retire as gracefully as possible and to do everything he can to help the American people, before he leaves.
I respect him for that! There is more to enjoy in life while you still can.
I haven't been able to see this latest SNL performance, but judging from some of this forum's reviews, I don't think she would want to upset her true fans. The fans who have been loyal to her, throughout her whole singing career! Just my opinion, of course!

She did herself and us proud and put her Fabrizio boots back on for the TV. Those boots belong on her feet. When she doesn’t wear her boots, it’s like Isadora Duncan without her scarf or Jean Cocteau without his silk handkerchief.
The SNL followers on Instagram were greatly impressed with her performance. She got overwhelming public approval. I would call her SNL appearance a huge success.
Does this mean that Fleetwood Mac is reforming?

What a great time. We waited for airtime for hours. She was clearly nervous for Lighthouse but seemed to get in the groove about halfway through the song. Looked like she was going to really rip into it for a minute, but then, didn't. EOS was much better. Boy, if they cut it any shorter though, the white winged dove will be down to only TWO "ooh's".
Looks like the afterparty as at L'Avenue at Saks, and SN and Lorne were the last to leave at around 4:30 AM.

Yeah, why does her hair look so different in that paparazzi picture? I like the softer look. The mask made me think they might have used an old picture, but the rings on her right hand match the ones worn during the performance.
Lorne Michaels wasn't at Saturday Night Live the last time she was the musical guest. If they were "engaged in what appeared to be a long, heartfelt discussion", maybe it was her expressing how special it was to be invited or maybe the song resonated with Lorne.
When I got in my car this morning to go to work, on the radio they were playing the SNL performance of the new song while commenting over it. Here is the clip at about the 44 minute mark.

With Ariana Grande, ‘SNL’ Scores Most-Watched Episode Since Elon Musk Hosted in 2021
Ariana Grande led “Saturday Night Live” to its highest ratings since Elon Musk hosted the show on May 8, 2021.
Grande’s Oct. 12 episode, with musical guest Stevie Nicks, drew 5.6 million viewers in live+same day viewing on NBC, per Nielsen data. That number does not account for delayed viewing, with that data becoming available at a later date.
The Grande show also became the most-watched “SNL” episode ever on Peacock across its first two days of viewing, Sunday and Monday, according to NBC.
Per NBC, Grande’s episode drew a “record-breaking” 516 million views across “SNL’s” social channels, with 415 million of those views attributed to in-show sketch and musical performance content. (“SNL” also uploads sketches online that were cut from the broadcast for time.)

When she starting wearing this look on the Billy Joel tour is when I realized it was a wig and not extensions. During that tour someone posted on twitter or instagram a picture of her at a hair solon getting her hair dyed…It was in Tennessee or something. In the pic she had her beautiful straight platinum blonde hair. Apparently she called the solon out of the blue and asked if she could come in at midnight for an emergency hair service. The hairstylist was stunned it was Stevie. They asked her to autograph a book and the wall. There are pics out there somewhere with long straight blonde hair. The next night she was wearing the”wig”. The dirty blonde color of the wig did not match the platinum blonde from the night before.
I saw the parts in her hair when she bent over for Edge of 17 but a very good custom made wig can have any amount of parts you want.
I don’t know for sure…. But my money is on a wig.

I believe it was Kansas City.

That’s it! Her natural hair is so beautiful. I have to wonder about the people she is surrounding herself with… doesn’t anyone have the courage to tell her the “Ramen Noodle” hairstyle makes her hair look unhealthy??
I just don’t understand… her hair was part of her trademark. I have loved every hairstyle she has had since 1970’s…but now I cringe when I see the most recent style.
Well… it’s just hair… there are bigger things to worry about in the world than Stevie Nicks’ hair.

I totally agree.
I don't know for certain, obviously...but in an Instgram conversation I had with makeup artist Ailynn at one point, she informed me that SN brought a friend of hers on the tour to braid it each night, implying that it is, in fact, her hair.
