Everywhere

Well, Christine gets the award for the most uplifting songs on those 5 albums.

Dreams
Blue Lamp
Just to name a few, because there are too many to remember right now!

I was thinking in Dreams, but I'd say it's more optimistic than happy.

Lots already mentioned…but for me the ultimate is Love Shines. It feels so happy, maybe in part abetted by the video. They seemed happy despite being in a very uncertain place at that time.

…..and Heroes Are Hard to Find….just because the horns really lift up the tone.

Don't Stop, You Make Loving Fun, Say You Love Me... Chris takes the cake hands down. (Mixed metaphor?)

Lindsey songs that smell happy at first whiff usually end up tasting miserable or bitter when you properly chew on them, and Stevie's attempt to write a happy feel-good song in Angel ended up veering into her foggy cosmos of disjointed visions. I want to give her Say You Will, but the lead vocal delivery is so strident and joyless, despite the upbeat music and giddy lyrics.

Although it's not Rumours lineup, I second the vote for Love Shines.

Well it could still be happy. I mean I always become happy while singing Picture yourself in a boat on a river With tangerine trees and marmalade skies...

I’m surprised no one mentioned I Don’t Want to Know- the music is joyous, to me, and the lyrics are pretty upbeat.

I Know I’m Not Wrong is also very joyous. It totally makes me happy when I listen to it.

Re reading this thread I checked the meaning of uplifting: inspiring happiness, optimism, or hope.

There may be several songs, but Don't Stop was the first that came to my mind.

Until this thread, I’d never realized how somber or serious FM songs tend to be. Except for Don’t Stop and You Make Loving Fun, and my choices I Don’t Want to Know and I Know I’m Not Wrong, I don’t find any other songs that fit my definition of happy or joyous.

Even solo, the only song I can think of would be Holiday Road, outside of FM proper.

I think Christine wins the award for happiest songs.
Think About Me
Say You Love Me
Everywhere
Don't Stop

Lindsey is runner up, (Big Love, Monday Morning, and maybe more so solo than Mac) and I need a decoder ring for Stevie's songs. They are shrouded in mystery and innuendo. After a few drinks, I usually get the jist, but at first listen, I usually can't follow. While it's probably my favorite song of hers, I am still trying to figure out what a shining autumn ocean crashing is.

Big Love is interesting. The literal interpretation is definitely a positive thing. But Lindsey describes it as meaning a more sarcastic "looking out for love" meaning almost dodging or hiding from love. There are more than a few interviews of Lindsey describing the song and what was going on in his life when he wrote it. Is this what they call "tongue and cheek'?

I didn’t realize it could be sarcastic or ironic. Not like 10cc’s I'm Not in Love, where I knew from the first that the message is that he is in complete denial cause he actually is still in love (Be quiet, big boys don't cry... and nobody keeps an picture of an ex just to hide a nasty stain on the wall).

But reading carefully the BL song, yes there are some contradictions that he notices in the girl, like when he says You said that you love me / And that you always will. But then I wake up alone with it all / I wake up but only to fall.

In retrospect, and maybe at the time, a really happy song was what Say you will lacked.Even without Christine being there, you would have thought that one or other of Stevie or Lindsey might have tried to lift the mood a little. I suppose it's an angsty album, post 9/11 and in the Iraq war era: songs about abortions and Ed Murrow aren't going to lift the gloom. I suppose Stevie tried with the title song, self-consciously trying to imitiate Christine a little in her chirpiness but it's just a bit naff and cringey.

The Rumours lineup SUCKS without Christine. I pray to god that it's over... anything else is just fukcing PATHETIC.

I didn't like the SYW album. Definitely Christine was missing there. However, I did enjoy the 2009 concert (Unleashed tour). They didn't suck at all, imho.

But today they would suck, I wouldn't go to any concert if they got together (hope not!). It is over.

I have a horrible suspicion that Lindsey won’t ever tour again, and we’ll be lucky if we get another album from him.

I agree. I think his health isn't up to it, now.

They should've called it a day after Christine's return tour. ORRRRRR, after the tour he would have been a part of, if the Old Goat hadn't fired him. Know who ruined the end of the band?
Stupid old goat!
I wish her terminal cooter itch!

"Honey Hi" is pure bliss and happiness. The perfect 3 part harmony in the latter half of the song is Fleetwood Mac at its happiest.

I love Honey Hi. She nailed this tune and gave them an opportunity to sing on the same mic live. I wish they had done that.

I love it, too. Or more accurately: I love what it became. I heard an early version of it where Christine’s kinda shouting the verses in a high, stiff intonation. But by the time she’d worked out her lead vocal it was pure bliss. So even though the harmonized vocal round is the most obvious and stunning feature of the tune, Christine’s expert attack on the lead vocal part is equally stunning.

Gonna have to go listen to the demos again!

There’s one which is really just her final glorious vocal without any overdubs—just her and the electric keys. That’s not the one I was referring to.

The one I’m talking about is on the deluxe somewhere…? I’ll find it

Update: it’s the 10/11/78 version. Nice acoustic piano but she hadn’t figured out yet how to sing the song. Her intonation isn’t right.
