Buckingham left the band in 2018 due to tension with Nicks.

JUST SAY IT! You fired him. It was stupid and you now regret it. You catered to a spoiled prima donna instead of trying working it out somehow. The whole situation was handled badly, and to still pu$$y foot around it is so insulting to everyone, including fans. Whether they get together again or not it's over for me. It's all I can do to still enjoy the music they made from 75-82. Thanks Stevie, Azoff, and especially you Mick.

This is pathetic.

I'm done, too. I'll stay with the FM of the past.

MICK IS A LOSER.

Mick and the rest of the band allowed this situation to happen. Sounds like Mick is thinking about his own mortality and leaving the state of the band in a messy spot (not to mention the cash) He probably should have thought about that in 2018.

I guess he just assumes they can get John a bass from Guitar Center and be convinced to do something?

I'm having flashbacks of the infamous Mick Fleetwood 2010/2011 Playboy interview.

It's amazing how many people he and Stevie impacted with this fiasco. It spoiled the happy experience Christine had returning to the band and prevented a final album with all 5, it screwed Lindsey over (including a final farewell with Christine) AND it even trickled down to Brett Tuggle being put into an awkward situation after decades of working with them. I hope the tour checks were worth it, they screwed and hurt a lot of people that devoted substantial chunks of their lives to the band.

And the kicker is, that tour started well after the initial 3 month delay that Lindsey was initially asking for. All for nothing.

Can we go back years and resurrect my posts that said it was going to happen?
I hate being right so much around here

Stevie doesn’t seem up for reconvening Fleetwood Mac — with or without Lindsey. When you watch her do her own tour, she looks to be in heaven.

Mick split from his partner? It does seem to be a run of terrible things that affected Mick: the band melodrama, a split with a partner, the tragic fire in Maui, losing one of his oldest friends, and so on. And yet he still wants to get out there and play. In fact, he says he is working on a new album. Someone should suggest that he ask Neil and Mike Campbell and Lindsey and Stevie to help with the album — they don’t have to be together in the same room — and then he could call it Fleetwood Mac. At this point, what does it matter?

I loved his first two albums, but his 1992 album was a lot of shlock rock nonsense with the unprepossessing and not terribly brilliant Billy Thorpe.

I really dig The Visitor—it still sounds pretty fresh and unpretentious. I’m Not Me is a charming collection of 80s pop.

Mick was very honest about the band planning or at least talked about a swan song tour in 2020. That is only natural for a band that has been functioning for so long to have a proper farewell. For God's sake they did it in 1990 and still came back. I definitely think Mick will ask Stevie and sort of want a make up even if its fake and only for profit. I dont see John taking part. But they will still call it Fleetwood Mac. Mick says he wants amends. Lindsey has said for years that he would go back. I think Stevie will commit to a tour for Mick's sake and for the band's legacy. Mick will keep asking her and she may agree out of guilt for her behavior and Mick's financial straights.
Do I want it? No. But this band is fairly predictable.

I don't think he was talking about the Rumours5 band going out on tour for one final swan song..... he says after the tour with Mike and Neil, that band would do one official 'farewell' tour. No way he could think they could tour without Lindsey and then all come back together.

This article says Stevie actually had surgery and that's why she cancelled shows:

Despite cancelling shows in Manchester and Glasgow due to a “minor surgical procedure”, Nicks remains scheduled to resume her European tour by performing in London on July 12th.

Stevie hasn’t worn her boots on tour for months now because she either broke a toe or she had foot pain. But she still twirled and did the Edge Walk.

I agree. That is what I meant. The Mike/Neil version was going to do the swan song. No way Lindsey was going to be there. That 2018 tour made some good coin. Mick and especially Stevie would not change things up. It would have been ridiculous to fire Lindsey before the 2018 tour and then let go Neil and Mike and bring back Lindsey 2 years later for a final tour. Could you imagine kicking out Neil and Mike for a tour with Lindsey just one year after their other tour concluded. Talk about treating their guitarists like disposable garbage. But maybe I am giving Mick too much credit and would have done it in a heartbeat if the boss approved.

LOL I couldn't tell if this was sarcasm or not.

Really, they've already treated Neil and Mike like disposable garbage. Mick isn't making his case in the press for another tour with Mike and Neil, he's greasing the wheels for Lindsey (and Stevie)
And Stevie won't even make new music with the Neil & Mike lineup. They were good enough to cover the parts and thats about it.

What I find sketchy is I get a sense that they approached Mike and Neil with grand illusions. We're a new band, we want to start a new chapter, make new music. When in reality, the only thing thats even remotely worked out in stone is a tour and nothing else.

Had Mick been upfront and said "Hey we need to replace Lindsey for this tour, I can't speak for anything else in the future, will you do it?" I'm not so sure either of them would have taken the deal. Yeah, Mike has said many times he was looking for something to do, but a one-off tour with a weird reconfiguration of Fleetwood Mac? I don't know, I'm not convinced. Mick can express all the dreams he had envisioned, but had that tour been such a success, you would think they would have had another leg for spring of 2020 on the books (which Covid would have cancelled) But that tour ended in November rather quietly. They made up for some of the losses they hit early on in the tour, licked their wounds and called it a day.

At least Rick and Billy did get to record an album and tour.

YES!
The tour was not some artistic creation or to promote anything. It was a contractual obligation where all parties signed and agreed to tour. The band forced Lindsey out and hired replacements. At their age it was likely the last tour of the band. Mick talked a good game how Neil and Mike were permanent members and they were going to record music. All bologna!
The difference was besides Bob Weston all Mac members left on their own accord. At least you could say there was justification for firing Bob. But to this day we still don't have a clear answer why Lindsey was fired. Its as crazy as when Michael Anthony was fired from Van Halen. He did nothing wrong but the boss was not happy.
They replaced Lindsey so they could go out on a cash cow tour that Lindsey already agreed to. It was pure greed plain and simple.

Irving thought he could do with Fleetwood Mac what he did with The Eagles after Glen passed. Yes, covid definitely put a damper on what could have been - but like I said, I think they quietly admitted that the experiment failed given Irving wasn't hitting the ground running with another leg.

The Eagles also appear to be on the same page, more often than not. They don't have the tug of war with a solo career like Stevie. Joe Walsh isn't dictating when an Eagles tour can happen. Another miscalculation Irving had when it came to running Fleetwood Mac into the financial abyss.

But maybe I am giving Mick too much credit and would have done it in a heartbeat if the boss approved.
After Peter died, he said that he wanted Lindsey back, but wasn’t willing to cut Neil and Mike, and wasn’t sure how that would work.

Really, they've already treated Neil and Mike like disposable garbage. Mick isn't making his case in the press for another tour with Mike and Neil, he's greasing the wheels for Lindsey (and Stevie)

Mick recently sat in with Crowded House, so I don’t know about that. What’s weird to me is Mick, Stevie, Neil, and Mike have all brought up Lindsey. Mike said that he didn’t see how Fleetwood Mac could get back without Christine and Lindsey not there. That said, Mike didn’t say he was done with them, either.

Also, Stevie won’t make new music, period. It’s only been since 2010 that she’s written an album of new material.

I don’t blame anyone but Stevie for the lack of new Fleetwood Mac music. I genuinely think Mick thought/hoped the new lineup would record. Christine was back, Lindsey was out, and Stevie’s primary songwriting collaborator was in. Neil would have given the band an art rock edge. However, Stevie’s creative well dried up a long time ago.

I disagree I’m sure dates were set and Lindsey was out. Crowded House was on break.Neil wasn’t going to leave his band for Fleetwood Mac. It was definitely a one off and Neil and Mike knew it.The PR surrounding Lindsey leaving and the “ New line up “ had to sound like it wasn’t just for the upcoming tour.
Prior to 2018, the last Crowded House album was in 2010 and the last handful of shows were in 2016. There wasn’t a band to leave. Neil put together a new version of Crowded House, with only Nick Seymour returning from the previous outing, to record the songs he’d written for Fleetwood Mac after it was clear Fleetwood Mac wasn’t making new music.

The difference was besides Bob Weston all Mac members left on their own accord.

Danny Kirwan, Dave Walker, Billy Burnette, Bekka Bramlett, and Dave Mason would like a word.

Re: Mick's cameo with Crowded House, I think that's Mick trying to be a good guy and not make them feel like hired guns. Trying to keep some resemblance of a friendship despite the collapse of his grand plans for that lineup.

And I completely agree about Stevie. I'm kinda surprised that Mick didn't see that issue coming, even with Mike and Neil. It would have been really nice had she been willing to clear the air once and for all and just admit that she had no interest in making a Fleetwood Mac record with anyone. With or without Lindsey, with or without Christine.

Mick’s cameo with Crowded House also tied in with what he said in the Mojo interview- he wants to play drums, live or recording or both. He understands it won’t happen with FM again.

I don’t know how much more clearer Stevie could have been that she was never going to record with FM again- she didn’t contribute to what became the Buck/Vie album, she hasn’t made a new album since 2011 or whenever In My Dreams came out, and 24 Karat had songs written 40 years ago. Sure, she’s dried up creatively enough that she can’t make a new album, but she’s in her 70s. She’s allowed to spend her time doing whatever she wants, and touring lightly seems to be what she wants to do right now. But she’s been very clear she wasn’t going to record a new album again, especially with FM.

Joe Walsh isn't a LEADER of the Eagles. He makes half of what the leaders make. Glenn was the musical director, as was Lindsey.
Fleetwood Mac would've died 30 years ago, if it weren't for Lindsey's musical vision. Your argument is both null and void. :)

Mike is an amazing guitar player, I just don't think the FM material was the best fit for his style of playing.

Billy and Rick were better at copying the parts, however, Billy was a fanboy in their inner circle, Rick was one of the top sidemen in the industry and a Peter Green aficionado, and neither were big enough names to have their own established identities or sounds. They were corporate guys that didn’t drive Fleetwood Mac creatively like Peter, Danny, Bob, or Lindsey.

Neil and Mike have their own sounds and legendary bodies of work. They absolutely could have been creative driving forces. I’ll admit it was awkward watching Mike trying to infuse his sound into the Lindsey-era material (although I loved what he did on “Everywhere”), still, they could have made an album that would have been miles ahead of BTM and Time.

The press drumbeat with the constant Stevie and Lindsey mentions are all too predictable in their presumptive outcome. There will be some sort of hand holding reconvening of the Lindsey and Stevie Fleetwood Mac. If there is a short run, either an Azoff driven Vegas Sphere run, or a London, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles Stadium farewell, or simply a soundstage to Netflix performance, the star-crossed, angry lovers will hold hands on stage once again. Lindsey will speak of organic cycles, Stevie will talk for minutes on end about how she was the one who knew they would make it, even when Lindsey didn't believe it, and she was the one who loved him before he was rich and famous, and of course Mick will smile endlessly as the checking account rebuilds itself, and he tells all who will listen, this was the definitive Fleetwood Mac, and its only right the band ends with this line for its final time on stage.

Nope…nope…nope…Not this time. Christine is gone (RIP) John is done. Stevie is where she wants to be at this point in her life. Mick will have to sell some more of his “stuff “ if he needs the money. Lindsey should continue to do Lindsey. He should pull some musicians together and put together a Traveling Wilburys type band together.

ALL. OF. THIS.

I pray that this is all correct.

As much as I love Lindsey, he'll be a loser like Mick if he goes back. He suffered PUBLIC HUMILIATION at the hands of the Old Goat. If he goes back and holds her hand, THEN I'M DONE WITH HIM. Pathetic.

I really just don't see it happening, but I've read the room incorrectly so many times before.

I do think Mick is hedging things a bit here, talking explicitly about things happening perhaps not in the context of Fleetwood Mac. He's got his faults as we all know but deep down maybe with the loss of Christine and a growing sense of mortality he just hopes that if one or other of them were to go on that final tour of Canada they would leave us on better rather than bitter terms. So I'm cutting him some slack. He seems to have reconciled with Lindsey a little, which is good.

And if I'm wrong and something Mac-related does emerge, I won't go. Others might get something out of it and that's fair enough. Even the government would make some sales tax or VAT out of it...

Off topic: but, how was the Dirty Knobs show?

It was fantastic. Mike is incredibly entertaining. There were a few times I thought “what if…”

My favorite moment was how he quietly said “This goes out to Don” before playing “F*** That Guy,” and then made it an audience participation song.

What I found interesting was how Mike and Steve made a point of saying they didn’t use computers, click tracks, or piped-in music, that they were entirely live.

Mick's comment about a reconciliation between Lindsey and Stevie "that doesn't have to be a tour" is I think the very telling piece. Clearly the two of them wouldn't survive another road show, whether that's because of ego clashes, or if the odd chance that her comments about his health have any glimmer of truth to them that precludes him doing months on the road or whatever... Mick at least is holding the space in his head for them to do a final show somewhere, somehow ... at least that's how I'm reading between the lines of his comment. He might be thinking he can convince the two of them to hold their fire for a SINGLE show, or a SERIES of shows (Vegas or wherever).... we know Irving will be down with making money in whatever form. I can see Lindsey being open to the idea of closing out the band with something, even with Chris no longer there. I don't agree with that in any form or for any number of gigs, but....we know the personalities involved...

So..... stay tuned

It's ironic that of all the solo and band shows that I've seen since 83, Stevie has cancelled FAR MORE shows then all our band members combined, including the 2 recent ones. She truly is delusional and living in her own fantasy world these days.:p

I am so tired of seeing that headline all over the web "Mick wants Nicks/Buckingham rift to heal." The headline should continue "because Mick needs money."
If he was so concerned about this rift, he would have postponed the 2018 tour and made sure the rift was ironed out. Its ridiculous that now without a band and limited income that he plots this for himself.
Just as I thought he could go no lower.

That’s very true… especially since Stevie has toured what- 20 solo tours versus Christine’s 2 tours and Lindsey’s 7 tours? But as part of FM, I have no doubt you’re right, and she has probably been the reason most FM shows were canceled.

I think Mick is sincere that he really hopes Lindsey and Stevie reconcile purely because it makes him sad that they aren’t speaking, and not because he wants a tour. Lindsey’s willingness to forgive Stevie is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of the quality of man he is.

I never got why Eagles did so many of Walsh’s songs in their set. Don’s solo songs were big Billboard hits.
There have been recent Eagles shows where no Don songs were played, just Joe’s usuals: Walk Away, Life’s Been Good, Rocky Mountain Way, and Funk #49.
I think the only solo song Glenn did was You Belong To the City.

I think because Glenn always wanted them to be more rock and roll. Bringing Joe and his songs into the band obviously made them far more rock and roll than they previously were. And Joe's songs are "fun" songs.

Interestingly, last time I saw them(with Vince Gill), ALL of Henley's solo songs were gone from the show. I'd guess that with Vince and Deacon on board, they could lighten the load for Don.

I think he cared about it in 2018, but also saw that the situation had become absolutely unsolvable. is that a word? lol hopelessly irreparable. i doubt there was anything anybody could have done to make it work if Lindsey stayed..? and i think it still bothers him to see that no progress has been made after all this time.

I don't particularly disagree with what said. HOWEVER, the way it went down in 2018 was a bloody crime. If Nicks and her manager told Mick its him or her I understand why they picked her. But Nicks should have told the world her intentions and explain why she was firing Lindsey and hiring her friend Mike Campbell. Instead she stayed silent and let Mick do the trash talking. Good grief the things Mick was saying about Lindsey were incredible. The band was not happy with Lindsey and to be happy Lindsey needed to be gone. Then he went on to say that Lindsey would never come back to the band and this was a final decision. Stevie used Mick like a puppet. But Mick went along just for the money. If he simply cared about the rift then do that privately. Don't involve the fans, the media or us. But we know why he's going public. His intentions are financial for healing the rift which makes him scumbag of the year again. They year is only half over but he already gets my vote. Its so cynical. There are other bands that fire members. But there has never been this puppet show back and forth. Like I said earlier, if he really cared about the rift they could have put the breaks on the tour for a bit. But he wanted that cash too much.

I don't fault Mick for wanting to earn money. He's most likely getting residual income from the album sales but that's not enough to fund his expensive lifestyle of which I believe he can still afford based off of recent photos I have seen of him at his massive Hawaiian estate. I bet he still has several million in savings. We have read nothing that supports another bankruptcy. And I don't fault him for wanting to do another FM tour because what else is he supposed to do when he wants to work? And concerning his decisions in 2018, when it comes to making millions, my morals would certainly fly out the window also had I been in his same situation.

I don't disagree with most of what you said, but when it comes to them cancelling the tour in 2018.....Mick would not have had the influence on that that he might have had on such decisions in the past. First, Stevie would NEVER let them cancel the tour, she worries about pissing off promoters and such and she wants to stay on good terms with them for her own tours. Second, Irving would back her up on all that 100%. And, since HE is now the manager of the band, HE would say they cannot cancel the tour. Chris and John, as much as I love them, would NOT stand up to that, I'm sorry to say. So that would leave Mick the sole dissenting voice (in this hypothetical situation) and he would simply be outvoted. Mick is not the leader of this band in the business sense any more and hasn't been for a long time. And with a personality like Irving in charge, who couldn't care less whom he irritates or offends (I see him as the type who will sweet talk you to get you to do what he wants, and then when you resist, he turns into an attack dog) there is no way Mick would hold out. Mick might be in many ways the glue and the heart of the band, and historically throughout all the incarnations of the band he's been the one to try and keep peace and reconcile with everyone. He really doesn't seem to like discord or conflict. Stevie would dig her heels in that she will not stand for canceling the tour, and Irving would back her up and the McVies would want to not prolong any ugly arguments and so he'd be odd man out.

Wow, that was very well put. I think the best way to describe the situation Mick, Christine, and John were in was a no-win situation. We saw what happened when Stevie didn’t contribute songs to Buck/Vie- even though it was a FM album, the tour left out John and Mick. Just because people are millionaires doesn’t mean they still don’t need income to continue their lifestyle. Plus I’m sure they want to be able to leave money to their families when they pass on.

Life unfortunately can’t always be about creativity or legacy- sometimes artists keep recording or touring not just because they love to do those things, but because they need to. We fans can say “FM should have quit recording after Tusk because that was their last incredible album” or after Tango because Lindsey left, or after Behind the Mask because Christine and Stevie quit touring etc but the reality is, FM makes their income from touring, so I completely understand why Mick, John, and Christine made the decision to back Stevie in 2018 or whenever- if they hadn’t, they would no longer have been able to tour.

Mick Fleetwood Sells His Recorded Music Rights to BMG
Fleetwood is the third member of Fleetwood Mac to sell catalog rights, following Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. BMG's head of acquisitions tells Rolling Stone the viral resurgence of "Dreams" factored into the deal

BY ETHAN MILLMAN
JANUARY 14, 2021

Mick Fleetwood, co-founder and drummer for Fleetwood Mac, is selling his entire recorded music catalog to BMG, the company tells Rolling Stone. BMG will receive the musician’s royalty share in a vaunted 300-song catalog that includes tracks like “The Chain,” “Go Your Own Way,” and “Dreams,” the last of which has enjoyed a resurgence among teenagers due to a mega-popular TikTok video.

BMG declined to say how much the company paid in the deal, but said it’s the largest single acquisition BMG has made in two years.

Fleetwood, with this sale, becomes the third member of Fleetwood Mac to sell catalog rights to a third-party investor or manager — following in the footsteps of Stevie Nicks, who sold her publishing rights to Primary Wave Music in December, and former member Lindsey Buckingham, who sold his publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs Fund last week. Fleetwood Mac is one of the best-selling bands of all time, having sold 54 million certified units, according to Recording Industry Association of America. Rumours, the band’s 1977 album, has sold over 20 million certified units and is ranked seventh in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. “Dreams,” a single from that album, recently climbed its way back onto music charts four decades after its release, thanks to the TikTok-fueled virality.

Several dozen other artists and songwriters have sold their rights in the last several months, including Bob Dylan and Neil Young. For music creators, the incentive is a hefty lump sum of cash paid up front; for the buyers, the ownership of these stars’ rights will ideally translate to lucrative revenue streams for decades into the future.

A key differentiator in Fleetwood’s sale compared to many of the other acquisitions in recent months is that, rather than selling publishing rights, the drummer is selling his recorded music rights. Publishing rights pertain to songwriting and composition, while recorded rights relate to the actual recorded performance of the music. That means publishing rights usually yield more revenue in the area of sync licensing (i.e. when a song is licensed for use in a film, TV, ad, or video game) and recorded music rights are more directly tied to streaming, downloads, and album sales.

Haerder says BMG expects publishing revenue, as a whole, to drop this year because of Covid-19 pandemic’s stopping of live performances. (Whenever music is performed in concert, its songwriters receive a chunk in royalties.) Meanwhile, the company expects recorded music rights to get more lucrative — because music streaming is still growing across the world and more listeners translate to more royalties — so BMG is more interested in acquiring recorded music rights than publishing rights, Haerder says.

“Many people are going into music IP on the back of the streaming world,” Haerder says. “When you really look at it though, recorded rights are the ones that almost exclusively are growing on the back of streaming. While publishing has also benefited, it’s more multifaceted. That’s why recorded right now, in our opinion, is as attractive if not more attractive as an IP class in the music space.”

“We strongly believe that these high-profile, generation-defining rights and catalogs have a high sustainable growing value for generations to come.”

He adds: “We think there has been maybe a little bit too much of a focus on publishing and that there’s areas outside of publishing — and not just recorded —where we think those are attractive acquisitions as well.”

BMG’s deal with Fleetwood began taking shape in November, not long after “Dreams” surged from the TikTok trend. That viral success explicitly factored into the deal, Haerder says.

Without giving specific names, Haerder says BMG is looking at similarly high-profile recorded catalogs as well and hopes to close more deals throughout 2021.

“It’s a very competitive space out there, this was a competitive process, but we are definitely looking to do more of these,” he says. “We strongly believe that these high-profile, generation-defining rights and catalogs have a high sustainable growing value for generations to come, and we want to work with these artists and add value to their work.”

In a statement, Fleetwood called the deal “a wonderfully inspiring marriage between two creative partners that understand all aspects” of the music business. “Foremost, BMG understands the artistry and puts the artist first,” he said. “If this partnership is any indication of my past, and now future, working relationship with BMG, it’s that they truly ‘get it’.”

This. Instead of Mick and Stevie doing fluff media pieces promoting themselves and blaming others for the band's current situation they should take responsibility for their own part. I think that the situation would have gone over better if it was handled better. Even if they don't think they did anything wrong, for the sake of the fans and the band's longtime crew, Mick and Stevie both should apologize. Haven't heard anything close to that yet, That disasterous interview on the morning show was such an embrassment. All it would take is for Stevie to say: I'm sorry to the fans that have supported and followed us for the last 40+ years, but the situation has become such that it is an unhealthy situation for everyone, so some tough decisions had to be made. We regret that it has come to this but at this point of our career we value and support a more healthy working envirnoment. Or something to that effect. Instead all we got, and are still getting are denials, and a squirm show as they toss the blame around and everything that they have worked for in the trash. Egos gone amuck and no one to keep them in check, especially not their money hungry manager.

For all the deniers and worshippers, anyone who has followed the band for any amount of time know about the constant fighting between Lindsey & Stevie, so it's more than obvious that Stevie (and Azoff) were responsible for Lindsey's firing and the way it was handled. Just as fans are constantly reminding everyone of the successful solo career Stevie is curently enjoying, makes the fact that she destoyed the band all the much disturbing. She should have left the band gracefully and enjoyed her solo sucess, but all we are still getting are attention seeking denials. Makes me wonder why I followed and supported these people all these years.

All of this.

Can you imagine an uglier ending to the band of our lives?

Stevie totally became the boss. It's her way or the highway.

I’m sure legal, at the time, thought otherwise.

Most of what they said was exaggerated, but was mostly true. Lindsey himself said he wanted to delay the tour, admitted that he didn’t sign off on the tour, and was even telling fans after MusiCares that he was planning on doing a tour within a tour. Let’s be honest, Lindsey got in over his head when he signed with Atlantic and either wouldn’t or couldn’t take no for an answer.

For all the deniers and worshippers, anyone who has followed the band for any amount of time know about the constant fighting between Lindsey & Stevie, so it's more than obvious that Stevie (and Azoff) were responsible for Lindsey's firing and the way it was handled.
So, you admit that there was constant fighting between Stevie and Lindsey, but Stevie should take sole blame for what happened? Lindsey had zero culpability?

She should h,wave left the band gracefully and enjoyed her solo success
She supposedly told them that she was done dealing with Lindsey and that they were free to go on without her. They opted to part with Lindsey. However, be real, there wasn’t going to be a tour without Stevie. “She should have left” is a nonstarter. Fleetwood Mac already proved they could sell a lot of tickets without Lindsey.

I did not say cancel the tour. We all got odd vibes when 2017 was rolling on and no news about the new Mac tour. Buck/Vie went on the road and was done. Stevie kept extending her 24k Gold tour and told everyone she had no interest in recording with the Mac. Trouble was brewing behind the scenes once the Buck/Vie tour ended and the 24K Gold tour ended. They should have sat Stevie in a room and done an intervention. They could have done the same with Lindsey too. Both of them cut the crap for this last tour that was scheduled. If it took 4 months for cooler heads to prevail then it was worth it. Instead there was an ultimatum issued and the band made their choice. Of course all of this ran the risk of making Stevie so angry she would just leave the band. I am sure that is why they chose not to do it. But Chris and John should have used some tough love.

So sacking someone is a felony now? Wow, you guys have tough laws in the States. I mean they already paid Lindsey off in a civil settlement, what more were Fleetwood Mac supposed to do. I AGREE! THEY SHOULD ALL BE IN JAIL.

CHRISTINE EXCEPTED!!!!!

Edited to add: 2018 was, no sh*t, 6 years ago - and the most talented and neutral member of the band has since passed away. It would have been her birthday two days ago. Yes - I personally wish Stevie had done Landslide with Lindsey instead of Harry Styles to commemorate the occasion for her "best friend in the whole world" Christine, but sh*t happens. She chose Harry. Oh well.

In ten years time (2034), are we going to be lamenting the fact that Stevie died without making up with Lindsey? I mean even Lindsey himself would undoubtedly have the self awareness and decency if he doesn't die first, to be respectful of Stevie's death.

I don't know what country you reside, but they did not "pay Lindsey off" as you state. The band was in breach of contract for disbarring Lindsey from making money off a tour that he was contractually obligated to do. If the case had continued to trial, the band's attorneys would have had to explain to jurors why Lindsey was terminated. Mick could never explain it and it would have been a treat to see him squirm under oath. The band settled because they could have lost even more money

Used tough love to do what, though? by that point, trying to mediate between those two must have been tried 1000 times before. They weren't getting any younger. Neither J nor C wanted to leave the tour, they were friggin happy, although Chris was sick up to here of the eternal drama between L and S. It must have been like kids hearing their parents fighting constantly for yeeeears, stressing out the whole family in this toxic dark cloud, and thinking, 'Jesus, we love you both but just get a f$#@* divorce already, because you're making the rest of us miserable. we want this family to be together, but this isn't getting better, and one of you at this point has to go.'

I'm sure there was sadness when the decision was made, and Chris hated what went down in terms of losing LB, but I'd bet that sadness may have been quickly overshadowed by relief.

i guess the rest of us obsess endlessly over the 'if only so-and-so had done such-and-such, maybe the problem could have been fixed' but i wonder if the band members did that beyond a certain point. i doubt it. I think they accepted it and said, 'well this royally sucks, this should not have happened this way, but...phew!! glad that's over!! we're moving on.' and mick was just the one that had to kind of present that mindset publicly.

We are not in our 20s and 30s and have so little time left. Stop playing the victim. We will talk to Lindsey about his crap. You made some valid points, but that very drama made the band millionaires. Not only that, the band milked and chased the L&S drama all the way to the end. No doubt if they were still together L&S would still be milking it. So can they really have it both ways or did it end up comsuming them?

Here’s the thing: even if there is a Mick-Lindsey-Stevie reunion (I’m not imaging John is game), and even if it gets a lot of press and the three of them make money, it’s still going to sound pretty bad. Neither Lindsey nor Stevie sing well anymore in a live context (nor could Christine after 2016), and the music which we remember as rousing and passionate would be dismally sluggish and anemic.

Please, they need to just say good night.

Just to add, for me, Fleetwood Mac was completely fatiguing and uninteresting after SYW through 2012, when there was an inkling Christine maybe possibly might have been contemplating a return. A year later, she was in Hawaii, and year after that, she was back in Fleetwood Mac (after having made cameos).

I was disappointed that Lindsey was let go, but I was happy that they added two great musicians. I’m happy seeing the Knobs and Crowded House, who have some shred of creativity and vibrancy. A McVie-less Buckingham Nicks dba Fleetwood Mac “reunion” would be nauseating and the ultimate trashing of the band’s legacy.

Agree 100%
The thing is Stevie and Lindsey can kiss and make up and perform at each other's solo shows, as they have been for decades up until 2018. No need for a Fleetwood Mac Say You Will Line-up reunion for that.

I personally think it would be great for the two (Buckingham and Nicks) to make up and perform one more time, even just a song or two.

Anger is a poison. And Stevie (and Lindsey, but less so) have been drinking from that poisoned cup for far too long.

Yeah maybe. But I suspect Mick was the mediator between her manager and the band. Its pathetic she could not explain her position to the band and made her manager do it. If she could not face the band and explain her position then no way in hell anyone would have access to her to sit her down. Their fear was she would leave the band and watch 70% of the touring profits go down the drain.
Really sad when you think about it.

The fact that Azoff was Lindsey’s manager going into negotiations and the lead manager for the band played a much larger role in what happened than anything Mick could have mediated.

As much as I love Billy, the only way the band should have ended by doing nothing and giving fans a pithy goodbye or by touring or with Christine, Lindsey and Stevie. This wasn't like all the times where Fleetwood Mac kept going because that's what the band always did. There hadn't been a new album for 20 years and it was clear the whole charade was done to placate one member of the band who shouldn't have had the power to force such decisions. But it's all done and in the past and in the end, we the fans got the shaft (again).

As frustrating as it is, it's also fitting. A grand opportunity to celebrate one of the greatest bands just whizzed down the leg.

Slow down. It's not Chris and Lindsey's fault their really good solo albums were not as big has hers. Its not their fault they did not have a shtick on stage. These are the choices you are referring to? Stevie had no career gaps? What about the gaps in her head?
I see things a little different. Chris had tons of power but chose not to use it. She had just came back to the band after almost 16 years. Chris already had tons of money. She really did not need another tour financially. But she realized if Stevie walked the band could be reduced to playing small theaters. I would have been fine with that. But clearly Mick was not. I seriously believe if Mick was really good with his money and was rich as Chris they would have just disbanded at that moment or went on some smaller venue tour.
Money changes everything.

Stevie did have gaps. No big hits after 1986. The Dance brought back the luster and that was Fleetwood mac. Stevie is smart in now relying on touring and the past. It has served her well. Chris and Lindsey were about moving forward with new material. Neither is wrong, but the past seems to sell more tickets.

I love it when people quote Cyndi Lauper! I’ve got my ticket to see Cyndi live in November and I can’t wait!

Per your comment about Mick not wanting to play smaller venues… I think there’s much more to that. When Lindsey and Christine decided to tour for their album, I was saddened because the smaller venues meant they wouldn’t be able to pay John and Mick to join them on tour. I recall some folks here at that time saying Christine and especially Lindsey didn’t do it for the money, but for the creativity and because they love performing so much. Well I believe that’s true, the fact is, they also want some sort of return for their time, and the four members touring casinos was not going to make enough money, hence the session musicians taking John and Mick’s places. So I don’t think Mick had an aversion to playing small venues… just that there was no way they could afford to.

Not what I’m talking about. Christine was semiretired for 23 years, doing two albums (Time and ITM) and 40 tour dates with Fleetwood Mac, while Lindsey made three studio albums (GI, TITN, and OOTC) and did 80 tour dates (40 solo, 40 Mac) in 21 years.

Stevie doesn’t have those gaps. Even after she creatively dried up, she was still a fixture on the concert circuit.

I agree.

Stevie has worked hard and worked consistently. Sure, relatively few studio albums for a musician of her vintage. But she has toured almost year in year out (with a few years off here and there) with either Fleetwood Mac or her solo band (and at times, other musicians such as Sheryl Crow and Chrissy Hynde/Pretenders, Rod Stewart, etc).

What she did to Lindsey was oh so terrible but I completely get why she did it. She was 69 or 70 years old and she had spent the last 35 years working with someone she hates, who also hates her. Is it any wonder there was a straw that broke the camel's (or GOAT's) back?

Not always. Stevie dried up. Her concert decline started in 1991 with half attending compared to her earlier 1989 OSOTM tour. The klonopin years produced no big hits and she dried up. There is a reason the Street Angel tour was short. I lived in West Palm Beach at the time and she was supposed to do 2 nights at the Kravis Center (a theater) but that leg of the tour was cancelled. Because she dried up commercially was a big reason she returned to the Mac in 1997. The limelight success of the Dance led to a huge Enchanted tour success and she was back on track.

However, unlike the others, she could have simply lost weight, stopped smoking, gotten a makeover, and done an MTV comeback concert with special celebrity guests and gotten back into relevancy.

And, 1991-97 was still only six years. The others were largely out of the public eye for decades.

Stevie had a substantial fan base, even through her desert years. These fans swapped her concert tapes, published fanzines, cheered for her at public events, and so on. But it still wasn’t enough to put her at the top of the charts. It wasn’t her time — she wasn’t the elder stateswoman of rock, she was a bit of a has-been. I don’t think that relevance can be manually flipped on and off like a switch. These celebrities have up and down periods. Stevie’s “relevance” was having a fan base that didn’t forget her. She sort of went underground for awhile, but thousands of them stuck with her completely. This is when they tracked down her dressmaker and her bootmaker and bought her clothes for themselves. (Previously, they had grabbed nondescript capes and boots off the rack.) I was amazed at the time — when Stevie had become a little dull and lumpy — seeing how energetic all these fans were with their numerous fanzines. Her base was throwing a lot of energy into her, and she hadn’t had a radio hit for years.

Based on what I remember, her fans were at their most rabid (and rather repellent) from 1989 to 1996. There were times during that stretch when you dared not criticize her — these devotees would have eaten you up.

Something couterfactual that just crossed my mind: imagine for one moment that whatever denoument that happened at Musicares either didn't happen, or Stevie was prepared not to engineer the ouster of Lindsey at all. Things were as near sweetness and light as the Mac ever got to be.

Imagine that the 2018-19 tour took place began with the five of them but Lindsey's illness either forced the cancellation of most of it, or more intriguingly, something like the Finn/Campbell iteration completed the tour because of this. Covid then happened and following Christine's passing, Mick, Lindsey, Stevie agree to a farewell tour in 2023/24. John can't be persuaded to join them.

Sure, it would still have sold well, but I still would probably have passed on it. I would just feel that 2014/15 couldn't be topped. From 1998 onwards there was always the hope however unrealistic that felt that Christine would return. I just don't think I would have troop along, somehow, not that I would represent part of the critical base of their audience.

Covid really screwed things up for a few years. For everybody. We all lost precious time. I would hope that Lindsey's heart issues would have caused the tour to stop, but you know, the Mike/Neil thing could have gone forward. Or even Billy/Rick. Now that I would have gone to see again. I passed on the 2018 tour. I was heartbroken over what happened to Lindsey. But I am so grateful for 2014 when I got to see the fab five again.

I’ve read Carl Sagan said that some things are meant to happen anyway. For example if Columbus had not reached America in 1492, someone else would have done so in the short term. The conditions were right for it to happen anyway.

So if they don’t fire Lindsey as a (supposedly) result of the Musicares event, it would have been for another reason that same year. That was based on Stevie's mood, who didn't want to work with him anymore.

yeah but she wouldn't have been in college FOREVER...

so ok, she finishes college on mom and dad's dime, and THEN what??

She can bs about being a teacher all she wants, but if you know any ACTUAL teachers in the US, there is no way in hell she'd have survived that. No way.

She would have found ways/places to continue singing. I think of the interview during the Dance era, that one where she's sitting on the road case and Lindsey nuzzles her.... and they were talking about playing small places and how they'd (S&L) been offered gigs in steakhouses and the like and Lindsey was like nope, and she freely admitted she'd have taken those gigs. She'd be doing what Shania did early in her career-- clubs, casinos, cruise ships...if that's all she could get.

Might she have met yet another talented person/man who fell in love with her and because of that helped her make her stories and demos etc into something more viable? Quite possibly. Or she'd be living in a dump with 6 cats. Who knows.

Where do you get your info from Homer; Don't you know Stevie's vocals on Buckingham Nicks were what got Stevie and Lindsey hired by Fleetwood Mac?

Fleetwood Mac couldn't have cared less about the basic, sloppy guitar they heard on Frozen Love. Stevie's vocals were the best they ever heard in the whole world!

I have my own theory that she was clinging to Tom Petty even as far back as the 80s because she really wanted to join the band and leave Fleetwood Mac. She barely participated in the making of Mirage, Tango, etc etc.

Agreed. She went back with them to wield her powers after Tusk. I think subconsciously she wanted to rub it in Mick and Lindsey's faces. Or even consciously. McVie(s) not so much but them to an extent as well.

In one sense, I don't blame her. She was pushed aside a lot in the beginning. Lindsey set the tone for that. We are serious musicians and you're a space cadet. (sort of attitude) And in a way, I see the band's side of it too. Survival and artistry are very personal with big egos.

We see it come to that in Destiny's docu. I'm not your little flower girl anymore. Don't tell me what my lyrics need to be. F*** off!!!

Anyway, that's my take.

if you look at the timeline before they joined Fleetwood Mac she was very close to packing it in and resuming her education .She was going into her late twenties and had to have a skilled musical collaborator to put her songs across as her own musical skill would remain very basic to put it kindly. She was in no way someone like Joni Mitchell or later Kate Bush who could have and did record masterpieces with very little help .So no guarantee that she would have made it going forward. She was very lucky. What she did do right was once she started to become famous she crafted an image and personae that fit well with her music .This is one reason that she is still a big concert draw along with having great PR people. I would compare her now to someone like Elizabeth Taylor who had not appeared in a hit film since the 1960s but remained a huge star for decades after. She really does not have to do anything new or creative now to remain famous and therefore almost certainly will not.

Tony, something just crystalized for me. This message board has been entertaining me more than the actual band for the last 30 years.

I don't mean deep and abiding entertainment, but I've been checking out this forum with more anticipation than that stupid band. The drama here must be a little more amusing than the drama there. Or maybe the revolving members here are more interesting than the revolving members there.

Oh, totally. There have been times when the posters here have made me laugh so hard that I couldn’t breathe. One time, the board was coming up with names for the new tour (sans Christine or Lindsey) and the collaborative energy was far more creative and edgy than anything the Mac did on its most recent tour.

An Evening With Fleetwood Mac is not a Tour Name. Just as An Evening with Barbra Streisand is not a Tour Name.
Stevie's current posters say "Stevie Nicks Live In Concert" - it's not a tour name.

Here are images from 2003 which also say An Evening With Fleetwood Mac, however they were promoting and playing many songs from a new album. Hence all the band members call it the Say You Will Tour.

Nobody in the band has called 2018 "An Evening With Fleetwood Mac Tour" or even "The 50th Anniversary Tour". That tour was not promoting the RHINO 50 Years compilation either. That cd wasn't for sale at any shows I went to.

Dude, you were wrong and instead of just admitting it and moving on, you’re doubling down.

Then again, I would expect nothing less from MAGA.

ETA: Fleetwood Mac performs at Pepsi Center on Dec. 3, 2018 in Denver. Fleetwood Mac brought its An Evening With Fleetwood Mac tour to a sold-out Pepsi Center Monday night. (https://www.denverpost.com/2018/12/04/photos-an-evening-with-fleetwood-mac-at-denvers-pepsi-center/) -Denver Post
 Setlist.FM, reviewers, Ticketmaster listings and venue websites are the Bible? Oy vey. I remember in 2007, a Stevie Nicks show was listed on TM as Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.

Here's THE press release for the tour: http://www.mickfleetwoodofficial.com/2018/fleetwood-mac-2018-tour-press-release/

No mention of An Evening with Fleetwood Mac. Would it not have said "FM announces today their An Evening with Fleetwood Mac Tour". No because every Fleetwood Mac Concert is An Evening With Fleetwood Mac. It just means a Fleetwood Mac concert. Posters and tickets for concerts before 2018 have said An Evening with Fleetwood Mac but those tours have been called Say You Will or The Dance by band members. Answer this: Was the legal name of the 1997 Tour AND the 2003-2004 Tour, "An Evening with Fleetwood Mac"?

And the 2018 Kiln House tee was just a shirt with the album cover without dates or the word Tour/Live/In Concert on it. And it just said Fleetwood Mac. There was also a shirt in 2018 that said Say You Will, Time, and Behind The Mask, and other albums on it too. In 2013, there was a shirt at merch booths with the Rumours Cover on it.

A gay transgender female and I'm MAGA? You and Rick Vito are MAGA. You think you're a democrat but you're as democrat as Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are. And you're also mean to gay people. You told me I was never bullied before and I told you I'm constantly called a "f****t"; you said nothing again. Don't call me dude. I would expect nothing less from your chauvinism.

I just read Steve's post that says "Shake The Cage".

Mick mentioned the 1987 tour in his book.

By early September 1987, we were holding secret rehearsals in Venice, for a long journey we undertook that autumn, which we called the Shake the Cage Tour.
And so, almost exactly twenty years after Fleetwood Mac's debut at Windsor, the band's eleventh lineup hit the road in late September 1987.

The talk in the News press wires that Stevie Nicks is making overtures to Lindsey Buckingham.
And wishes to have a deep meaningful talk with him..
To heal their broken relationship…

It’s undecided whether she has danced around her kitchen till she is giddy and worn out her ballet pumps.
Or
Karen has just read her the figures for Oasis’s 17 night tour (Gb and Ireland only)
The Short tour will make in excess of 600 million dollars …
Over 65 million for each brother..
And sold out within a day.
Money talks ….

Hey sue. I don't see Stevie making overtures to Lindsey. You know she sold out Hyde on her own, as well as the biggest UK arenas in Manchester and Glasgow. She also sold out Dublin and Amsterdam's arenas.

I could see Stevie bringing Mick and John along for a FM set in her solo show. Bill it as Stevie Nicks with Fleetwood Mac: "Playing Stevie Nicks' Solo and Fleetwood Mac Hits and Celebrating Christine McVie's Music." They can do Dreams, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, Say You Love Me, Everywhere, You Make Loving Fun, The Chain, Little Lies, Don't Stop, and an arrangement of Songbird with Mick on the talking drum and John too.

I think Stevie wants Lindsey out of her life and her history.

So your "The talk in the News press wires..." was just a joke? Cause I was going to ask you about where you read it, to see if it's reliable. Even so, I am always skeptical about what I read in the media, unless it is direct interviews.

Anyway, in Stevie's microuniverse everything is possible. I really believe her brain has damaged parts. That doesn't make me sad, I must admit.

I don’t know much about the Oasis history, just some headlines about the Gallagher brothers who insulted each other. But I’ve seen some The Police docs and understand their fights were focused on the music they made, the arrangements, the song selection, etc. Andy and Stewart attended Sting and Trudie's wedding, so I assume that the friendship, although it could be affected, had not disappeared (of course, when they were asked to play something at the party, that's when they started arguing again). So a reunion was possible and we finally were lucky to see them in the 2007 last tour.

But in the case of S&L I don't think the friendship will recover. Although as I said, everything is possible, I highly doubt it.

I don't think Stevie would ever make overtures towards Lindsey. The only way it would happen is if Mick's persuasion worked and then she still would not do it. Mick would be the one pulling the strings. Perhaps he convinces her that he's almost broke again and convinces her to partake in a goodbye swansong for the band. The only reason I think it will happen is because of Lindsey. I cant really understand it but Lindsey has always said he would go back and has had several olive branches towards Mick. I do believe Stevie has guilt of her actions from 2018. I dont think she wants a Yoko Ono legacy with the band. She forgave Mick and came back to the Mac after their big fight in 1991. I think there will some sort of reunion that may not include John. It may not be a tour but I think Stevie and Lindsey will be on stage together again. Why? Because the history of this band tells me so.

Another way that is often a reason for reconciliation is when someone is in danger due to very poor health, and their lost friend returns to heal wounds "before it's too late". But Lindsey already had a serious health episode in 2019 and Stevie sent her a "get well" greeting and that was it. So Mick's intervention might be the only option, but I still wouldn't want to see them (the band) together again.

I’m sure nothings off the table but to paraphrase Lindsey from the 1997 tour - time limits them at this point. They’re getting to be too old and Lindsey for whatever reason is taking way too much time off. At their age, they really need to keep the juices flowing if they want to continue to play live shows well into their 70’s and 80’s. Stevie, for better or worse, is taking a clue from how the Rolling Stones have been approaching this late stage of their careers. For the last 12 years the Stones have done some type of annual short tour, with the exception of 2020. Usually a 12-15ish show tour over a 2-3 month period. From my view it keeps the wheels turning (for the entire band/operation). If it’s not medical related, then I have to wonder if LB ever cares to take the stage or tour again at this point. These are horrible years for someone his age to simply go into hiding.

At least The Stones did two new songs in 2012, Blue & Lonesome, Living in a Ghosttown, and now Hackney Diamonds. I saw them in LA and they did four new songs! Stevie's setlist is garbage.

I don't know what Lindsey is doing. It's three years since he released his last album and almost two years since his last full concert. And he said at that time he was going to wrap up an album. I almost think Lindsey's done with touring and recording.

Gotta disagree with this logic; someone who hasn’t grown personally in 45 years would be pathetic, not Lindsey for exhibiting emotional maturity by showing forgiveness in a fairly unforgivable situation. I suspect after being fired from FM, nearly dying, Christine dying, then nearly losing his partner of 30 years Lindsey simply realizes time is precious and he has to lay down the burden of anger and grudges and make the rest of his time count. I would try to heal as many wounds as possible if I were in his shoes, too. FM has dominated his entire adult life, nearly 50 years of it. Why would he not try to write a happy ending for it?

I agree with much of this except one sentiment; Stevie unequivocally does not feel regret for firing Lindsey, that’s just not how a person who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder’s brain works. She felt threatened/wronged/unheard/whatever and simply lashed out in reciprocity, which is what narcissists do. She may however feel regret, which is quite different from guilt. She possibly regrets that she wasn’t totally able to spin the narrative of Lindsey’s firing to the press/fans; she possibly regrets that she couldn’t have worked the situation to further her advantage… but she ultimately doesn’t care about anyone except herself. It’s not that she’s cruel, it’s just not how the narcissistic brain is wired. They view the entire world as either for or against them, and annihilate anything that they view as even remotely altering their narrative, much less threatening it.

Now, would Stevie reconvene with Lindsey? If she were convinced that it would be beneficial to her interests and that she would have total control, it’s certainly possible. She’s not going to be the one to initiate it, though.

Hi jmm3,
I agree that they are all getting older with all the ailments that advanced age brings, and this is the perfect time for their story to fully mature musically, or just how Lindsey likes to talk about circles, for the circle to become complete, even for, just, one last show and their, true long suffering, fans. Christine McVie is dead. Fleetwood Mac is over.

There maybe could have been another chapter if she hadn’t come back, but she did, we’re all better for it, but she’s gone now, and there’s no credible way to go back, especially considering their ages.

Christine, Julie, and even Mayall are gone, now. I don’t see John caring, anymore. He’s done. I’d love to be wrong, but I’d much rather have Buckingham Nicks featuring Mick Fleetwood/Buckingham, Nicks, & Fleetwood/Lindsey Buckingham w/ Mick Fleetwood/Stevie Nicks w/ Mick Fleetwood/Mick Fleetwood’s Mac Attack or whatever than something called Fleetwood Mac.

That ship has sailed.

Hi Steve,
I agree, that it won't be Fleetwood Mac any longer because, unfortunately, Christine has gone. May she rest in peace forever, so I meant it would be nice for "whatever" incarnation of the remaining members, to 'Then Play On' again before it's definitely too late......PLEASE!

John is also right under the age of 80. I personally think Mick wants to talk with John to say playing as Fleetwood Mac as they did from January 2001-March 2014, would be healthy for both of them.

I still wish there was a photo available of John attending Stevie’s Hollywood Bowl concert October 3, 2022. Stevie said he was in attendance that night.

Hi HomerMcVie,
With respect, I agree and accept that! Out of the five 'Fireflies', there are only three remaining unless John decides to return, and unless you have spoken to him lately, we don't know how he feels! Yes, he apparently sold one of his bass guitars and can easily get another. If as individuals, they still want to play together then they should be able to. That's all I am saying!:wavey:

Why don't you let him speak for himself instead of putting words in his mouth and out to pasture already? If he wants to retire indefinitely, of course I support his decision. I don't see John going on a tour, he most probably is tired. But I'm just guessing based on latest news. Why did he sell his collection? Most likely because he feels it's a closed chapter. But it could be also because he doesn't want to work and just needed some cash for personal reasons. Again, just speculation, I think he has not given any interview.

If Mick convinced him, it could be just for a couple of shows. But as I said before, I am not interested in seeing that partial reunion, actually I would not like it to happen. Fleetwood Mac was over to me since 2018.

John was most likely thinking he was done even then, in 2022, before chris died and before the auction. from what i heard he sold pretty much everything, and he was there at the auction for one day answering technical questions about all the gear. and i know folks say he could always buy another bass but he had sooo many different ones for different songs that were tuned differently etc, so i don't think it would be as simple as just buying a new bass.

john was always frugal ...tighter than a crab's *ss , as my dad would say. he didn't need the money, he's got a sweet net worth. as long as he and his daughter/son in law are pretty much set for life, that's prob all he cares about.

But even chris had said he was "feeling a little bit frail" and didn't have the heart for it anymore in one of her final interviews. If he was frail *then*, imagine how he is now. and esp after all that's happened.. my opinion is that he's definitely done.

I would not think John (who doesn't even sail anymore) would want to go into a sound stage, studio, or anything else related to the biz. Just a hunch, but after everything that's happened, (including the 2018 drama) he's done.

When Guided by Voices reunited, it was mainly for one show. However, learning the 50 or so songs and getting out to Las Vegas for one show didn’t make a lot of sense. So, it became a reunion tour that led to a new chapter of new music.

Point being, the Peter Green gig would have been a lot of work and expense for one show, especially when he was ready to be done.

John said that he couldn’t do another big tour after the 2014-15 tour, but still found a way back for one last hurrah/$h!t$how and then sold off most of his equipment in a joint auction with Christine and Mick. Christine has since left us and Julie has passed on. John is almost 79. The auction was his farewell.

Furthermore, Lindsey hasn’t made a new album in over seven years. He even said he didn’t do any recording during the pandemic. I’d be surprised if he’s not done. I want to be diplomatic, but the undiplomatic way to say it is that his heart isn’t in it, anymore. :sorry:

You are more than welcome to your opinion, and nothing wrong with speculating what NOBODY knows.

They can jump up and down and force their opinions down our collective throats, but they are just hypothesizing based on God knows what. (as Lindsey would say)

Personally, I hope they never take stage again, in any form, other than solo. I would feel like it was a nostalgia or money/attention grab.

I do like Mick doing a solo album. I think it took balls for him to put together something in this music climate. Then Play on!!

Remember in that recent interview where Stevie suggested Lindsey had poor health, she said her focus is her new album and also putting FM songs in her solo concerts (specifically The Chain). She hasn't added FM songs to her set, only removed Sara from this current tour's setlist. I think she wants to get one more album out considering her last one did not sell for a name like hers.

Stevie's hit every major market since May 2022 and she didn't do double or multiple nights at The Garden or The ACC like FM does. I wonder how much more touring arenas she can do at the prices she's charging.

Yeah she seems to get real bitter when her projects don't sell at the Taylor Swift levels that she seems to expect (because she's a legend!)

She's prioritized touring over studio work for a reason. According to her, she didn't even write during the pandemic. I doubt there is an appetite for an album when she can get cheap adulation going on the road.

But what defines a hit? Talk to me peakest position was #4. Rooms on fire reached #16, and If Anyone Falls #14. I like those 3 songs but my favorite is IAF.

Statistically a hit would be a song that reaches the top ten? IAF wouldn't be a hit in that case, but it is to me, and since she included it in her compilations, and in setlists, it is to Stevie too.

In her last "best songs" compilation, Crystal Visions: The Very Best (I don't count boxsets cause they are not necessarily a GH collection), the list of songs are

1. Edge Of Seventeen
2. I Can't Wait
3. Sorcerer
4. If Anyone Falls
5. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (with Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers)
6. Silver Springs
7. Dreams (with Deep Dish)
8. Rhiannon (Live)
9. Rooms On Fire
10. Talk To Me
11. Landslide (with The Melbourne Symphony) [Live]
12. Stand Back
13. Planets Of The Universe
14. Rock And Roll (Live)
15. Leather And Lace (Stevie Nicks & Don Henley)
16. Edge Of Seventeen (with The Melbourne Symphony) [Live]

IMO I wouldn't include Sorcerer and R&R as "hits", among others. In fact I agree she has not had a real hit this millennium. If we consider hits as songs within the general top 100, there were 14, all of them from the last century.
