Stevie Nicks: “Without Christine there is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together.”

Stevie Nicks speaks exclusively to MOJO about the “devastating” loss of her Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie and what it means for the future of the group.

“It was all stunningly strange, because there wasn’t any lead up to it,” says Nicks of McVie’s death following a stroke in Autumn 2022. “We got a call, and I was going to rent a plane and go see her, but her family said, ‘Don’t come, because she may not be here tomorrow.’ And the next day, she passed away.

“I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her – which definitely would have made her pass away faster,” jokes Nicks to MOJO’s Bob Mehr through tears. “But I needed to be with her. And I didn’t get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn’t get to say goodbye.”

Since McVie’s death Nicks has been adamant that she no longer considers Fleetwood Mac a going concern. “Without Christine, no can do,” she says. “There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”

While Fleetwood Mac operated successfully between 1998 and 2014 largely without McVie, her absence heaped more onus on Nicks and Buckingham to front the band in tandem. But, as she explains, a détente between her and Buckingham – following the guitarist’s exit from the band in 2018, the two last crossed paths at a memorial service for McVie in early 2023 – wouldn’t necessarily clear the way to a final tour.

“Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems,” says Nicks, referring to Buckingham’s emergency open heart surgery in 2019. “It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding.”

“I do [Landslide] and we have beautiful video montage of me and Chris,” says Nicks of her current set. “I can never look at it, though, when I’m singing, because I’ll just get hysterical and sob. The world is a little bit of an empty place without her.”

Although she’s lost several musical comrades in recent years, including Tom Petty, Nicks continues to find connection in her band, which includes decades-long collaborators Sharon Celani and Waddy Wachtel.

“When I walk on stage, I couldn’t be prouder of my band,” says Nicks. “I mean, I would rather not be freed up from Fleetwood Mac, because of Christine. But I’m in a place where I can concentrate on my solo work. I can do anything I want now, and not have to worry about stopping and going back to Fleetwood Mac.”

At the same time, Nicks admits that “Fleetwood Mac is all over my set. Now that there is no more Fleetwood Mac, that opens the door for me to do other songs, like The Chain, that I’ve never done [solo]. I will keep the music of Fleetwood Mac alive, for as long as I can.”

Um...except you did perform The Chain solo in 1994.

As for the rest...the excuses are endless with this woman. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

It’s not the worst thing. If I’m not mistaken she only did this a few times at some 1994 shows and I believe Rick Vito was in her band at the time.

Mick actually said things much better at the Grammys after Christine's death with a touch of class, grace and realism given the Stevie/Lindsey situation and an unspoken nod to John's health.

“I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris. I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

Does anyone remember that interview that Christine gave to BBC Radio 2 in which she envisioned one last tour but without Stevie and John? I wonder who else would have been on stage?

What's she's trying to say is, "Even if I didn't hate his guts, he can't tour anyway."

Love her for staying away from the band she torched anyway.

but do we even know if that's true??

Clearly John has zero interest in touring again... he's sold all his gear, etc. Chris is gone, and now he's lost his wife.... and of course, he was the one for a time whose health was really fragile, so much so they stopped doing shows for a while. So it's not clear HE could take the rigors of the road again, even if he wanted to (which he seems pretty clear not to want).

Wasn't Lindsey talking about another solo tour...?

It just feels like she's glossing over a lot in order to point the finger at Lindsey's health as the definitive factor....

It also feels like a bit of a gloat.... Chris is dead, John fought health issues, Lindsey (according to her) continues to have health-related limitations, but boy here I am still standing and even selling out big venues like the boss b*tch I am......

Keep in mind I absolutely do not want Fleetwood Mac to get back together at all, but if you’re the type who breaks out the Fleetwood Mac decoder ring, they’re giving a boatload of lines to read between.

The more they talk about how Fleetwood Mac is over/doesn’t exist anymore, the more it seems like there’s something going on in the background. Like, why did Mike and Stevie bring up Lindsey? Lindsey was fired and isn’t a member of the band, so I don’t understand why the Stevie-Lindsey dynamic suddenly matters.

Then, Mick made a cameo with Crowded House after Neil was brutally honest about the 2018-19 tour and made it clear Stevie wanted to keep things as close to what Lindsey would do as possible.

If Stevie had said that she refuses to be the only vocalist from Rumours fronting Fleetwood Mac and still refuses to work with Lindsey again, I’d totally buy it’s over, stop asking. But, she leaves the door ever so slightly cracked with an “even if I could work with Lindsey again…”.

—

There are also no plans for additional shows with Fleetwood Mac, even though Campbell toured with them in 2018 and 2019, effectively taking Lindsey Buckingham’s place alongside Neil Finn of Crowded House. “I don’t see how they can go forward without Christine [McVie] or Lindsey . Stevie [Nicks] is real busy doing her thing; she seems to be blazing a trail,” he says. “I spoke to Mick [Fleetwood] not too long ago, and it’s kind of up to Stevie if she wants to go in that direction.

[b]There’s some stuff with Stevie and Lindsey that would have to be worked out,” he continues. “I’m sure the audience would love to see them get together again. But as far as I know, I would kind of doubt that’s going to happen.” -Mike Campbell, 2024

I definitely wondered why this keeps coming out with NO ONE, now not even Stevie, putting the final nail in the coffin once and for all "We are done and will never tour again"...

I also find it curious that she suggests IF the Mac went out again it would be a full year and a half tour. Really? Does it need to be that?? I don't even know if SHE and her voice could handle it... Maybe that's her way of pushing it off within whatever band discussions might be going on...."well if we go out, it would take up a year and a half" thinking maybe Lindsey won't want to be out that long or can't be.... I would also add that the reason it might have to stretch that long is because of HER physical limitations, i.e., that her voice can't do lots of shows back to back, and she requires multiple days off after every so many shows (so much so that Chrissie Hynde was able to book in club dates etc. between their shows together and frankly, Lindsey could have logistically done the same for the same reason.. but I digress). Maybe it's her flexing her power to get more concessions from the rest of them, and especially Lindsey... For instance I wonder, if they did tour again, would he get to hold the title of Musical Director, or would she insist on someone else? (wouldn't be herself, because no way she'll take on the grind of rehearsing the band e.g. the additional players etc, and frankly she wouldn't be capable). Would she demand final say on musicians? Would she demand final say on the setlist, stage design, etc? Also, just HOW MUCH of an additional cut would she demand of the profits? Would she demand 60% and give Lindsey 15 and John and Mick like 12.5 each? Would she demand her OWN jet? She's already getting the Presidential Suite everywhere so not sure how they'd up that.... Would she demand extra billing i.e., 'Fleetwood Mac featuring Stevie Nicks'??
You know Irving would hold them hostage for everything on her behalf.... Is he still managing the band? If I were Lindsey that right there would be the deal breaker for me......
It's all too grotesque to think about. And I still really have doubts about John, so... would they just replace him??
Just don't see it all coming together no matter how much dithering is going on behind the scenes...

My first reaction to this is, take Lindsey‘s name out your damn mouth!

So totally presumptuous of her to speak about his health in the context of what the band could get back together or not. It seems highly unlikely to me that she knows about his health directly from him. Why would someone who has been nothing but negative about him for years now pretend to care about his health? Or have license to speak about it? I can only imagine how he and his family felt when she sent him her letter scolding him to take care of himself. This is literally none of her business.

Don’t get me wrong. I think they’re both toxic And each have responsibility for the nature of their relationship. I don’t know why she can’t just focus on her career and stop using the band to generate PR.

That says she can't and doesn't want to be on a stage with Lindsey EVER again. She doesn't think she could, she doesn't want to, and she wants to be in her non-challenged zone where there's no debate. That's the final delivery there. The door is not open. And I think like bombaysaffires said, she's flexing her health muscles. Not only does she want to close the door but she wants to take a hit on the way out where she's essentially saying Lindsey's not in shape and not in good health. Though she just postponed two concerts of her own and again as bombaysaffires says, requires days of rest in between shows.

This interview was the last answer. MusiCares was the last time The Rumours lineup performed and will have been the final time the SYW lineup performed.

Focus on her own career? She’s managed for the past 15+ years to make her career all about the past and her persona as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Even Songs from the Vault was about the past, not the present. She’ll keep bringing up Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey until her final days because that’s all she’s got. What would the current UNCUT magazine article headline be if she didn’t dredge up this same tired crap? There’s no new album and she’s playing the most unexciting pedestrian set-list that really hasn’t changed much in 5 years. So yeah…since she’s largely done as a songwriter and as a member of Fleetwood Mac, I’m not shocked for a minute she’s choosing to b*tch that Christine’s death didn’t go the way she wanted it to. How insane can she possibly be.

And as much as she loved Christine as her best friend, she refused to work with her in the studio from 2014 on. You can't say it was just Lindsey she didn't want to work with. She then attacked both of them to save face in 2017 to say "I don't get THEIR premise". I can't believe what she's become. As Jim said The Trump of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was never her best friend. They looked out for one another on the road and got along quite well. Did they enjoy each others company while traveling in the band, absolutely! For 16 years while Christine was away Stevie took vacations all over the world, to my knowledge did she ever swing over to London to see “her best friend in the entire world?” Nope.

It’s curious that we’ve never heard Christine tell the same “we made a pact” story that became one of Stevie’s favorite tales for the press.

Like most things that come out of her mouth these days, it’s an exaggerated pile of crap.

Why does this board have an incessant need to take that out of context?

Here’s the full quote:

Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie are about to release an album as a duo. It seems like it started as a Fleetwood Mac album, but you chose not to participate.

I’ve been on the road [solo] since last September, so I don’t understand their premise. Christine was gone [from Fleetwood Mac] for 16 years and came back, did a massive tour, and then it’s like, “Now I’m just gonna go back to London and sit in my castle for two years”? She wanted to keep working. I will be back with them at the end of the year for, I think, another tour. I just needed my two years off. Until then, I wish them the best in whatever they do.

What she’s saying is that she doesn’t understand their premise that it would have been a Fleetwood Mac album if she had participated, since she was on tour. She then goes on to give a justification for why Christine should have made the album.

Regardless, it's the biggest pile of garbage to come out of her mouth in quite some time. She attempts to dodge her lack of participation by speaking for Christine and justifying why she wanted to participate. "I wish them the best in whatever they do" is what you write in an email when an employee you couldn't stand leaves the company.

She knew she couldn't get away with her usual "Lindsey is so horrible to work with" lines because Christine spent months praising the process of working with him.

Not taken out of context at all. Stevie was welcomed by Fleetwood Mac from early 2014 through 2016 (before she started her Fall 2016 Tour). Stevie decided not to make an album with FM because she didn’t want to as early as winter/spring 2014. From early 2014, it was understood that FM would be making an album, see the LA Times piece. In Mick’s 2014 book, he says we’re waiting for Stevie to join us in the studio and we’ll be ready for her. The 2016 Tour did not prevent her from making a Fleetwood Mac album. She decided to go on that tour and it was a decision made in late August 2016. There was plenty of time to record from 2014-2016. She’s saying FM never waited for her tour to finish so she could participate, not “I didn’t want to make a FM album.”

No. What’s your answer for her not being a team player in 2014 by choosing not to join the band in the studio? She was not required to give Reprise/Warners another album in the near future. You make it seem like LBCM only started after the OWTS Tour ended. Also, the band went forward and recorded in 2016 and 2017. She chose not to. Rules for Lindsey and Christine, but not for Stevie. I’m not the boss. This is a team. If people really are FM fans, they’d have said Stevie refused since 2014 to make an FM album. And she refused to make one with Neal and Mike.
I don’t understand their premise was a lie. The album recording started WELL before her tour that was not a tour to promote her 2014 album.

I'm so glad Christine's family was able to make sure the right people were there and were able to tactfully keep the Stevie circus parked in LA. I can't even imagine how it would have gone otherwise. I just cringe.

No. What’s your answer for her not being a team player in 2014 by choosing not to join the band in the studio?

Team player? There would have been no arena tour without Stevie.

From her perspective, she was being a team player by doing the 2014-15 tour instead of taking two years off after the 2013 tour. Given the sudden uptick in her popularity from AHS, she could have easily delayed the 2014-15 tour instead of delaying her solo plans by nearly two years.

The screw up was not canceling the 2013 tour the second Christine got on the plane to Hawaii. They already had the EP songs. Add Christine into the mix and there could have been a Fleetwood Mac album. Not that that would have happened. As I’ve said before, there’s really no upside for modern day Stevie to have her songs measured against others.

Rules for Lindsey and Christine, but not for Stevie.

You say that as if they were of equal standing to her. Fleetwood Mac is about making a lot of money and the only way that happens is with Stevie. She was the most commercially driven and the most business savvy of the lot. She doesn’t have massive career gaps. As a result, she amassed a lot of power in Fleetwood Mac. She’s a megastar outside of band while the others are/were barely viable. So, no, the rules don’t apply to Stevie and it’s incredibly naive to expect otherwise.

Why does this board have an incessant need to take that out of context?

Here’s the full quote:

What she’s saying is that she doesn’t understand their premise that it would have been a Fleetwood Mac album if she had participated , since she was on tour. She then goes on to give a justification for why Christine should have made the album.

this sentence makes zero sense. If she had participated, how would it NOT have been a FM album? Whether she was on tour or not, if she had participated in the album, along with Lindsey, Chris, Mick and John...it most certainly would have been a FM album..

Are you trying to say that she is saying they should have known she couldn't participate BECAUSE she was going out on tour?? That's totally different.

In the context of the entirety of her comment, that’s exactly what she was saying. She’d already delayed her solo plans by two years to do another Fleetwood Mac tour and I’m sure she was clear that she was going to be doing a 2016-17 solo tour.

Given the sudden uptick in her popularity from AHS, she could have easily delayed the 2014-15 tour instead of delaying her solo plans by nearly two years. We have different visions for FM anyway. You don't want to hear new music. You want to hear pre-1975 music.

I want to hear new music (I hoped for a new album from the 2018 lineup) and songs from 1975-2013 including Behind The Mask but honestly, I'm not into Time but for the opening track and Nights In Estoril.

She could have said she doesn’t want to work with Lindsey period, but instead she used speculation about his health instead.

I love how she’s always got “solo plans” to rush back to, which usually amounts to a pot of beans. Oh, another boring hits tour that’s the same tour she did a year or two before.

I’ve said this before, she could have refused to do the 2014/2015 tour if she resented it that much, but then she would have nothing to complain about or anyone to deflect to.

The idiot that she is said the quiet part out loud. Her solo set is packed with Fleetwood Mac songs. She’s largely marketed by her Fleetwood Mac material. 90% of the folks packing into Mohegan Sun last week wouldn’t be able to tell you a single track off of TOSOTM, Rock a Little, or TISL.

This part seems odd, although it's hard to know what time-frame Stevie was thinking of, but it was clear in June 2022 that Christine was not very well according to the Rolling Stone interview. Having said that it doesn't look as if Christine and Stevie were in touch much, if at all, after the final tour in 2019.

When we caught up with Christine McVie in June 2022, she had severe doubts about the viability of such a tour. “I don’t feel physically up for it,” she said. “I’m in quite bad health. I’ve got a chronic back problem which debilitates me. I stand up to play the piano, so I don’t know if I could actually physically do it. What’s that saying? The whole genesis for Christine going to Hawaii was rediscovering her passion for the music after reading Ken’s book. He’s the one who told everyone she was on a flight to Hawaii with Mick and then that she was going to make a cameo at the Blues Band show. By the time the picture of Christine eating dinner with Mick and John in Hawaii was posted to the internet, her return seemed to be a foregone conclusion.

it just annoys me how all you see since chris died is pictures/articles saying how close and tight they were, 'best friends', 'they made a pact' blah blah, give me a break. I think for a lot of bands, the members see sooooooo much of each other on the road and in the studio that once they aren't working they just need a friggin' break from each other. I think by the end of a tour they are just either on each other's nerves or so bored with each other they need time away. With Stevie though, it's "out of sight, out of mind". She always has such a posse around her, whereas Chris really sounded like she was kind of lost and alone for a big chunk of time back in England.
Chris always always considered John and Mick like family.... Stevie and Lindsey floated in and out and really were more work mates. I think in the beginning Chris and Stevie did actually forge a close relationship, and supported each other through their respective break ups. And as Chris noted many times, Stevie "really had her feet on the ground" in those early years. Then fame went to her head, and Chris described it as Stevie "living in her own world that I'm not really part of". Stevie became all-consumed with Stevie. I don't doubt her affection for Christine, but...Stevie would run over her own grandmother for success.

You put it very well Lis, as always. A very small part of me remains inclined to give Stevie a bit of wiggle room but it just gets rather frustrating. Perhaps I'm deluded.

Looking back at it all, it's just a pity that Christine didn't have her revelatory moment in time for her to be part of the 2013 tour, rather than having two tours practically back-to back. That would have given them all a bit of a space to breathe and there could have been another tour (and who knows, an album) from the five before COVID struck.

So I count my blessings- I never thought that I would see that lineup together, and then I did. I just had a great time and ignored the Kremlinology that was obviously going on.

I think with Christine they could have done The Garden, The Forum, Maple Leaf Gardens, etc. Because the public hadn't had the chance to see Christine or hear her big hits since The Dance. Maybe the tickets wouldn't have been that expensive but I actually feel like my OWTS floor tickets weren't more than $150 each. When Lindsey agreed to do the 2014 tour, he, Christine, and Mick thought they'd be touring an album. Then Lindsey had to change his message in the press when the tour got closer to say the novelty for this tour is having Christine's songs in the setlist (loved getting Seven Wonders too).

Although Steve and I see the Fleetwood Mac world differently, and I quibble with his posting style, I am very much in agreement with Steve that the hints being planted in the script seem to be alluding to some sort of "out of the blue" reunion. (and I am in full agreement with his point that FM only plays arenas with Stevie)

I have no idea when this interview was conducted, and they are often much longer in elapsed time from interview to publication than you might suspect. However, between Stevie, Mick, Neil, and Mike there is a lot of talk about Lindsey...I also believe that Lindsey would play for close to free (don't over think that statement) to be no longer called ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist, or labeled in his obituary former Fleetwood Mac guitarist.

No tour needs to be one and half years. Azoff just put the Eagles into the Vegas Sphere. Would I be shocked that FM did a 3 days per week, 2 or 3 month farewell with Stevie, Mick, and Lindsey in 2025 at the Sphere, not at all.....

I think this is the "gloat" part for Lindsey..... she hates me so much she can't stop talking about me. The band, Azoff, and Stevie are so focused on how many seats they can sell without me, and yet she forces all of them to try and BE me because I'm that great at what I do/did for them (which honestly also feeds his rather victim syndrome of being unseen, i.e., "I was a visionary/but nobody knew"). As always, the keyword for these two is co-dependent.

Totally agree. This notion of that long on the road is nonsense. But it may be the ingrained nonsense in Stevie's head and could be the thing that keeps anything that could happen from happening. Personally I don't want or need them together ever again, but if they did do something I agree a few nights in a prestige venue, record it etc, would be great. But..... would that line their pockets the same as a large tour? If not, Stevie won't do it, and Irving will convince her to go for the money of a longer tour, with or without them over that. Plus, honestly, what does she have to keep her at home?? I think her comments during Covid, of hating being stuck at home (despite all her PR blathering over the years of retreating to a castle on a cliff above the sea, I think she REALLY found out how little there is in life when work isn't happening) that she's going to fight to keep going until she drops

Yep. But what specific fight did she keep picking? Specifically, which ex-Mac did she go after?

I honestly don't remember(again, I never had a problem with her). She would insist that Christine was the one that kept Bob out of the r&rhof("if he's there, I WON'T BE").
I don't really remember any other issues with her. But she didn't back down from anything. Pit bull mode(almost).

I've been counting my own personal blessings for a couple of decades, now...

Stevie’s saying that had she sat on the bed with Christine and sang, Christine would have passed away quicker is unbelievable. If my grandmother said that in a conversation, I’d yell at her.

I think that was actually Stevie trying to be a little funny and self deprecating, something that I was shocked to see. Especially in this context!

Mick would have been completely appropriate. John and Mick were family. (we both know that) Lindsey and Stevie were very close to Christine, but not in that circle.

Had Stevie came and sang to her, Christine would have reached around and pulled her own plug.

On it's face, it's insufferable. however, some quotes communicate that she was in tears when she said it. If she said it whilst crying, it sets a different tone. It's still about her, but more towards being about them.

I do believe Christine was close with Stevie in a sister type way, but I also can see how much she rolled her eyes at her. She would call Stevie's posse "the silly sisters".

I wonder if it was easy for them to be "friends" on tour because tour provided a lot of things to talk/joke about. Outside of the band, Stevie and Christine probably couldn't of been bigger opposites. Christine managed to have a normal life for 16 years out of the spotlight. Stevie found out via covid just how little she had going on at home and her life truly was on the road.

I still chuckle about that time Stevie allegedly gifted Christine an ipod fully loaded with the 24K Gold album right after it came out. Oh, how I'd love to see how Christine handled that situation! Imagine if Christine had done the same with Buckingham McVie :]

you said it exactly the way it was-- when they were working it was great to have another woman to hang out with (although by the later tours they also had all the entourage of people who weren't there in the 70's.) at home they weren't in touch because they were such completely different people; the main thing they had in common was the band and their history.

And chris actually had a bit of a rough time during covid, she was lonely and felt very bored and isolated. (like many of us!) Maybe she had a more 'normal life' than stevie but i wouldn't necessarily say it was always a happy one. i think she probably missed the road and being around people a lot at that time.

Songwriter is the job for you! Like in country, most artists don't write their songs. Write a handful of hit songs, and you're rich, don't travel, and NOBODY KNOWS WHO YOU ARE!

My friend Jeff has been a roadie(guitar tech) with a major act for 15 years now. He's only 37, but he's so sick of it, and blames all his lost relationships on being on the road for so much of the past 15 years. I wouldn't want to do it, either. I did sound for 32 years, but 80% of the time, I had a cushy club gig....free booze, and slept in my own bed every night!

Yep, you couldn't give me fame on a platter. I only want the paycheck!!!!

My cousin was a finalist on ********(big national singing competition show) a couple of years ago, and has signed a record deal with someone out of LA(I forget the label name)....but if you would see all the sh*t behind the scenes, she's literally on the phone all day long, has her own full time "Karen", and endless rehearsals, and (to me anyway) it's just a nightmare! Just walking onstage and singing for 90 minutes would be awesome, but it's another 16 hours of hell, getting there. NO THANKS!
And know what? She's a lovely person, but her sisters want nothing to do with her, because she's living the life of a princess diva. She works hard for it, but IT'S NOT REAL LIFE(just like Stevie). She's sort of living in a fairy tale world, and the "regular" people in the family really want no part of it. And I'm now retired from the music business, and I'm so sick of it, too. I pretend that I'm interested....
So, I've been making new friends in the past couple of years, and there's not one musician, artist, or actor among them! Just plain old regular working folks. They talk about life, not themselves(which is all musicians do).

“There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”Everyone take note.

“It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding.”

Lindsey, you should have stuck it out with Azoff. He might have sent Stevie a cease-and-desist letter. What do we have here? Stevie hints at Lindsey’s inability to sustain a big tour because of health problems. What if Lindsey wants to mount a big tour later? Now you have Stevie telling Rolling Stone readers that he can’t cut the mustard. Imagine the effect that might have on ticket sales or the general climate around such a tour. Imagine what would happen if Lindsey told Rolling Stone that Stevie can’t tour long because she has health problems — imagine the response from her camp.

Come on, Nicks, you don’t tell people your old Mac lover can’t keep up because he’s in poor health — when he may very well be planning an album and tour because YOU canned him from his biggest paying gig. Not only is that barely a step above slander, it’s just sinister and nasty. If I were Lindsey, I’d return the favor and my people would be contacting her people in short order.

Go out and do your endless touring if you want, Nicks. But stop being a pill to people who either can’t or won’t defend themselves. Shut up about people you no longer allow to work with you.

I remember Wendy Welch claiming when Bob died that Mick called her to offer condolences and she got him to admit that Christine was the reason he was not inducted in the RRHOF. The reason was that she was angry that his 79 album sold more copies than her 84 album. I wonder if the lawsuit he filed was the real reason. She claims that Mick said Christine said she would not take the stage if he was inducted.

As for the interview Stevie really likes to act like she and Christine were the best of friends yet in the years when Christine wasn't in the band as well as in between tours they never kept in touch. Mick I think was the only one who truly kept in touch. Remember around 2000 -2001 he had dinner with her with London and she said yes to doing a new album but no touring.

The reason Christine was upset with Bob is NOT because her solo album sold less than his first two. Wendy may have claimed that but it’s not the reason. Christine was pissed that Bob sued Fleetwood and the McVies for additional royalties. The lawsuit occurred in the mid-90s and was resolved not long before The Dance. For years, she remained angry with Bob over that. She wasn’t the only one. John wasn’t thrilled either.

Wendy’s claim (and Bob’s—for he once said this, too) re: Christine’s jealousy/anger over the album sales may have been true as a separate issue, but certainly if Christine released a solo album between 1977-1979, when FM were at their commercial peak, she would have enjoyed more sales, too. By 1984, she could still sell respectably on her own. Bob could not.

Can anyone remember whether Bob's case had any merit? I seem to recall that it was settled out of court. Mick and Bob reconciled somewhat I seem to recall (although the former as a non-writer would have had less to lose). There was something about Bob alleging that the Mcvies & Fleetwood unilaterally changing the royalty structure without Bob's consent.

I suppose the later success of the band would have helped keep the sales of Bob's FM albums up but it all left a sour taste in the mouth.

Would the band have insisted on Bob's inclusion in the RRHOF (like the Rolling Stones did for the late Ian Stewart) without the lawsuit? I would like to think so but hand on heart.....

What a photo that would have been.. the Rumours 5 Peter & Bob. Such a shame that Jeremy and Danny couldn't or wouldn't attend.

The case had merit — on a technical, legal level. Fleetwood and the McVies had renegotiated their Warners contracts to receive higher royalty payments. These royalties included records with which Welch was a part. He was not included on these renegotiations and said he too should have higher royalties. Bob touches on this in a very skeletal way in one of his two Q&As. I’m sure there was some legal merit because the matter was resolved in the form of a settlement.

However, the spirit of the lawsuit may have felt like an injustice to Fleetwood and the McVies, whose affiliations with Warners had been constant and whose name recognition was much higher than Welch’s at the time of negotiation: they were in a position to renegotiate; he was not. Plus, getting sued by Welch had to have felt like a bitter, ironic echo of their own lawsuit against Davis, spearheaded by Welch, Fleetwood, and the McVies. So….

I agree with Welch in the sense that he had the most hand in these albums and songs. He deserved to get his beak wet for carrying them.

Christine and Mick did appear on his albums and help him out with shows etc (as they all climbed the ladder.) French Kiss did really well. To compare it to her album which came out 1984 is absurd. Sales wise and all.
She hadn't had a solo effort since 1970 and marketing herself was tricky by the time 1984 came around.

Having said all that, I did a little digging from my few sources, and Wendy was a bit batsh**T crazy. To take all her words at 100% is NOT the way I would go about it.

I still think Bob was due a ton more credit that he received. He kept that band alive and even moved them here.

Yes—this is sums it up, really. His legacy was undervalued: they had moved on without acknowledging it. Hadn’t thought of him when renegotiating. As a result of the lawsuit, he did receive $ — we just don’t know the exact amount. But I suspect he’d said or done something in the process that offended Christine and John, in particular. No certainty. But her anger, which she held onto for years, was significant.

This is what drives me crazy about the entire pre-75 era of Fleetwood Mac and how they have treated it in the past. Mick and Co. undervalued all of it for years, until it conveniently became important to them for any number of reasons. Oh, it's 1995 and the band could be done, let's re-negotiate in a real dirty way and screw Bob because we need the cash. Oh, Lindsey being fired isn't anything new, Fleetwood Mac has always been about the revolving door of lineups. Oh we need to fill out a setlist, let's just talk up the blues material because that's the easy way out. They've always used that material as their getaway car without giving it the proper dues, until very recently. They will ignore the blues legacy of the band for decades as they milk the Rumours cash cow, until they have to fall back on it for either financial or PR reasons.

Mick already sold off his RRHOF award, that's how much it meant to him!

Bob and Wendy were OBSESSED with the R&RHOF exclusion.

I think you’re right. They must have been, and that grew into this giant narrative about how the other members of Mac kept him out of the Hall of Fame. But I don’t think that’s true because, at least at that time, it wasn’t possible. There is an executive committee in place to decide who gets in and who doesn’t. The journalist Robert Hilburn was on that committee at the time, and he was asked at the time why Welch and Weston and Vito and Burnette weren’t included in the induction. Hilburn was very clear. He and the other folks on the committee (including Ahmet Ertegun and Jann Wenner) met to discuss the possibility of admitting more people from Mac’s history, but they unanimously decided that only the Green group and the Buckingham + Nicks group met the committee’s artistic and cultural-powerhouse requirements for being inducted. The band may or may not have been able to persuade the committee otherwise, but the committee made the call, not the band.

Of course, that committee has been hugely inconsistent over the years with its reasoning: Eagles all in, the Miracles not in, Parliament all in, the Crickets not.

Bob is the one who started the idea that this decision was “retribution” for filing suit in 1994. If Mick and John had demanded that Bob be included, Wenner and Ertegun would have told them to get back in their swim lane. This executive board has final say on which members get in.

If Mac hadn’t been inducted until the past few years, I think there’s a really good choice that everyone would have been inducted, because I think the committee is so obviously off-course and prone to lobbying, especially the past ten years. I think you really can buy your way in now.

Well, all I can say is, so much much for

"BOB WELCH SAVED FLEETWOOD MAC" - Mick Fleetwood

David, David, David.... look how they've glossed over his savior years, when talking about the history of the band. Like those years never happened. Bob moved them to the states, and brought them through FIVE really good albums. NONE OF US WOULD EVEN BE DISCUSSING THE BAND IF IT WEREN'T FOR BOB WELCH.

They're ingrates, and pretty disgusting ingrates.

Re: Bob Welch and the RRHOF, I agree that the RRHOF committee makes the calls here. The RRHOF committee has always had a bias towards 60s acts, so the success of the Green lineup got those members in, and the Rumours lineup had such huge success that there was no way they wouldn’t be in. The interim lineups before and after had some success but weren’t really remarkable artistically or commercially. On the one hand, it’s unfortunate for Bob Welch, but especially at that time when the RRHOF standards were more exclusionary it wasn’t happening. No way Jann Wenner has Bob Welch and his middle of the road work in the RRHOF.

Stevie is narcissistic. It’s helped her create this cohesive, commercially viable image and write some amazing songs. But the extent to which she centers herself in every narrative is annoying at times and grotesque at other times. Let’s not forget her note about RBG. While any normal person would realize that she and Chris were not best friends and that it would not be appropriate for Stevie to barge in for a visit when Chris was dying, Stevie is not a normal person and of course wanted to be there for herself. The montage of her and Chris for Landslide seems especially self-serving — I’m glad I don’t go to her shows anymore. That would have driven me up a wall.

Stevie has been using band drama to sell tickets for decades. I suppose it shouldn’t even be surprising at this point.

What's she's trying to say is, "Even if I didn't hate his guts, he can't tour anyway."

Love her for staying away from the band she torched anyway.
Apparently she's a medical doctor now and has given Lindsey a full physical and can give him a medical diagnosis. If she says Lindsey cant do long tours because of his health issues then it must be true.

I hate how she never owns her words or actions. This interview is nothing more than a deflection of her choices which by statement analysis she is no longer comfortable with. She is using Chris's death and Lindsey's 2018 heart issue to gloss over the past and it gives her cover not to commit to her words and actions of the past.

Is she so ignorant to not know that Lindsey did a world tour post Covid and kept going with deaths of band members, Covid issues, etc. Yet Lindsey kept going. But Stevie says Lindsey is not healthy enough to tour. Can you imagine what Lindsey thinks of this? Lindsey plays his heart out every night on his tours. He is drenched with sweat. He plays an instrument and his set is almost twice as long as hers. She is so insulting. Its like when she told Chris to get a trainer before going on the road. She's really something.

Dr. Nicks really lives in a bubble.

You are going way back. Terminations and there are deceased band members now.

Both of them go round and round. I don't think she meant to dis Lindsey at all. It was not her intent. Her intent in that interview was to deflect about working with Lindsey again. Gee, have much guilt that she completely ignores what she did and comes up with some made up excuse. Its fine she does not want to work with him again. For God's sake just say it. Stevie needs to stop making stuff up to rationalize her guilt. These comments by her are just idiotic. This is not in the same realm of Stevie and Lindsey taking shots at each other.

Please, since the firing, anything Stevie has done or said has been met with hysterics on this board.

She wishes Lindsey well and offers words of encouragement after his heart attack (in her own way), HoW dArE sHe?!?

She has a tribute to Christine on “Landslide,” HoW dArE sHe?!?

She has Sheryl sing with her during said tribute, HoW dArE sHe?!? I mean, Sheryl played Songbird on the Grammy’s broadcast and SYLM at a Grammy party. She obviously held Christine in high regard. Okay, but Lindsey was fired. Why would he be required for the band to perform again? It’s really odd that Neil, Mike, and Stevie have all brought up Lindsey in recent interviews. That’s why I’m frustrated with them. Whenever they say it won’t happen, they say and do something that makes me think otherwise.

Also, why has nobody mentioned John? Without going into any personal details, they could simply say he’s retired and the band won’t play on without him. Christine’s gone, John’s retired, and there’s no band without a Mac. End of discussion.

But they don’t do that.

Some of the posts are overkill but most of the threads have validations with her ego. Dedicating Landslide to Chris is touching. But she makes all tributes about herself. She lives in another world. Its like when Hawaii burned to the ground and people died. She tried to connect and relate to the victims because her niece was going to college there and had to evacuate. Her intent was not to dis the people of Hawaii but her arrogance wrote this bizarre statement that got flamed in media circles and not just this board. She can say she will never work with Lindsey again or she can leave the door open. However she should not get a pass on a ridiculous rationale that she has no details about. She is so self absorbed that she did not know nor care that Lindsey did a world tour post surgery. She is full of it. You could go on forever but remember the reason she gave for not recording with Fleetwood Mac? Albums don't sell. Yet she went and released a half hearted solo album of re-recorded demos. Why she wants to keep lying is beyond me but I am tired of it.

I'm not defending her at all. I am as upset and disappointed in her as many of you are. I'm just following my Oscar Wilde motto that I have already mentioned before. “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”

In this case I use that phrase as worse for her! So IMHO when social media talks a lot about someone, even if it's harsh criticism, insults, whatever, etc., they do them a favor. They keep them in the map.

I'm convinced if we all ignore her (not only within the Ledge, I mean ALL), she would go desperately mad. It's obvious that trying to organize the entire world to do that is a... bit difficult. But wouldn't that be great? ;)

But that's me.

LOL...Steve you know the answer to this. Talking about John when you could be talking about Lindsey!!? That's pishposh poppycock. Whenever there is even a remote opportunity to make this about Lindsey vs. Stevie, they always do. Saying Fleetwood Mac is done because John has chosen to retire, that doesn't sell magazines. That doesn't feed the decades long tradition of Stevie and Lindsey drama. That won't reverberate through the press as this Mojo article already has.

This entire Mojo interview was cooked up by Stevie's camp to keep interest going, keep the tickets selling. Even the whole "I can do whatever I want now that I don't have to worry about Fleetwood Mac" isn't really new. It's just a variation of the same headlines her PR folks have been feeding to the press for 10+ years i.e "I'm the heroine choosing to put my solo career on hold for this Fleetwood Mac tour"

She's already admitted to the press after the 2009 tour that she wasn't happy with that tour because it lacked drama. That tells us everything we need to know.

She contractually owed the label an album. I doubt she was excited about it and, as you said, she made a very low effort album to accomplish it. Since IYD, she did an album of leaked demos, released a live album, and released a couple of songs, including a cover, all of it forgettable. The well dried up a long time ago. Whatever new project she’s working on will be a lot of forced and forgettable.

If you choose to believe that it was a contractual obligation. That project came out of nowhere, but conveniently served as the catalyst to make sure she was on the cover of Rolling Stone as Fleetwood Mac launched their tour. Again, it also conveniently provided a dramatic "poor me, I HAD to complete this album in two weeks" storyline blah blah blah.

You mean to tell me Stevie's camp and Warner's waited until the last minute to realize the timing of her contractual obligations? Yeah, right. Her lawyers didn't know this had been on the books for several years? I don't buy any of it.

24K Gold was a contrived power move so the 2014 Fleetwood Mac tour wouldn't be all about Christine's return. You would have a hard time convincing me the folks at Warner's were holding her feet to the fire. It may have been contractual, but they would have been fine waiting until after the tour. If anything that was her spike in fame with a new generation from AHS and celebrity ass kissers like Harry Styles, not that dumb record.

And, yeah, on the one hand, that interview was kind of a BS thing to do. On the other, that’s free publicity that trickles down to the band. If Stevie is the reason they play arenas, then why shouldn’t she do whatever she can to capitalize on that spike in her popularity?

You mean to tell me Stevie's camp and Warner's until the last minute to realize the timing of her contractual obligations? Yeah, right. Her lawyers didn't know this had been on the books for several years? I don't buy any of it.

You say that as if she didn’t have plans for 2014 that suddenly had to be changed. She likely had that album and a tour planned for 2014. She put her tour on hold when she didn’t need to. She could have made the band wait two years and there wouldn’t have been a damn thing the others could have done about it.

If there’s any detail being left out it’s that she needed to get a little distance from Lindsey. Two tours in a row and getting pressure to do something she didn’t want to do was a bit much for her. She wasn’t getting her two or three years away from the band this time.

Regardless of my opinions of Stevie, she’s the one who was infantilized (I won’t join without her, Christine has to like her), she’s the one with the most demands of her time, and she’s the reason they play arenas. People, especially Lindsey Buckingham, need to quit acting like it’s an equal partnership. Stevie almost solely carries the commercial weight of Fleetwood Mac on her shoulders.

She did not have a deadline to get an album to Reprise. It was a passion project for her to release demos recorded professionally. But she used it as her way out of recording with Christine, John, Mick and Lindsey when it was internationally announced that those four were in Los Angeles working on and recording new music together. And that album charted lower than IYD with her American Horror Story, Harry Styles, and Glee publicity.

I'm not saying she didn't have plans for 2014 that suddenly had to be changed. I'm saying I don't buy for a minute that Warner/Reprise came to her and said "We know things changed and you have a Fleetwood Mac tour coming up, but you still owe us a record by 12/31 and that's non negotiable" That album, the tour, it was nothing but a middle finger to the band because she didn't want to do another Fleetwood Mac tour, even if it was with Christine. The only way to make it work for Stevie was to make it about Stevie.

Imagine Stevie AND Christine on the cover of Rolling Stone together. What a concept. That surely didn't happen, did it? Since Christine was her best friend in the whole world after all, it just seems like the gracious thing to do...

And really, the whole band needed to quit putting up the charade that it's an equal, democratic partnership. The whole band is captured on national television practically cringing as Stevie declaired "She's not the boss of this band" that was a joke and they all knew it.

The only way to make it work for Stevie was to make it about Stevie.

The timing wasn’t because of the label. Her AHS episode aired on January 8, 2014, which gave Stevie Nicks a sudden surge in popularity. Since she owed the label an album, but wasn’t going to be able to do another solo tour until 2016 at the earliest, she decided to make a quick album of leaked demos to capitalize on that surge as a substitute for an immediate solo tour, and 24KG was thus recorded between April 20-May 5, 2014.

The middle finger would have been telling the band she’d get back with them in two years.

And, she was completely open about not wanting to make a Fleetwood Mac album. Yes, she made 24KG, but those were old songs that were completely worked out. The point being she hasn’t made any album of new material -Fleetwood Mac or solo- since IYD. She is and was in a worse place than when they made TITN. How would Stevie unenthusiastically writing forced songs have benefited what became LBCM? It would have been like TITN, only worse.

“Imagine Stevie AND Christine on the cover of Rolling Stone together. What a concept. That surely didn't happen, did it? Since Christine was her best friend in the whole world after all, it just seems like the gracious thing to do...

The fans that have been with her for decades don't get considered. I don't subscribe to that peer pressure that I should be grateful to see her at age 76 singing the same songs she always has because there aren't many years of concerts left. So many artists either still tour their new albums (The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen) or markedly refresh their setlists (Janet Jackson, Madonna) for their dedicated fans. That was Stevie for 98, 01, 11-12, and somewhat 2016 even though that setlist to me was even more of a disappointment than those once in a lifetime Caesars Palace shows:laugh:

If anything that was her spike in fame with a new generation from AHS and celebrity ass kissers like Harry Styles, not that dumb record.

And, yeah, on the one hand, that interview was kind of a BS thing to do. On the other, that’s free publicity that trickles down to the band. If Stevie is the reason they play arenas, then why shouldn’t she do whatever she can to capitalize on that spike in her popularity?

She is the big draw TODAY, yes. However The core of her popularity is songs from the first couple FM albums which would NOT have EVER been hits and audience favorites no matter how much she did her veil dances if they had gone out to the world without Lindsey's production of them. So.... yes, people are going to watch her swirl onstage in bigger numbers than for others in the band, but the songs she's swirling to, which were the basis for anyone wanting to go see them live in the first place, are the result of people other than her applying their talents to her piano plonking... first among them, Lindsey, who had to translate them into something comprehensible for Christine and others. So.... do people *think* they are going to see her and her twirling, yes... but the songs they know and sing along to while she twirls have Lindsey's fingerprints, and all the rest of the band, all over them. Without having made those songs hits on the radio in the 70s, no one would be paying big money to watch her twirl... because without those hits no one would know who she was/is and she would never have had a big solo career either.

She is the big draw TODAY, yes.

Which is all that matters as far as the band’s current business affairs are concerned.

However The core of her popularity is songs from the first couple FM albums which would NOT have EVER been hits and audience favorites no matter how much she did her veil dances if they had gone out to the world without Lindsey's production of them.

Total red herring.

Using that logic, Fleetwood Mac should have continued working with Keith Olsen. He scouted Fritz, encouraged Stevie and Lindsey to ditch that band, write their own songs, and move to Los Angeles, played them to Mick Fleetwood, begged them to join Fleetwood Mac, and produced the first album of that lineup, which eventually topped the charts and produced three Top 20 hits as well as five concert staples. Their success wouldn’t have happened without him.

And, then there’s Ken Caillat and especially Richard Dashut. LOTS of amazing music made with those guys, too.

I could go on.

Bottom line, Mick and John were opening acts or part of oldies packaged tours without Stevie while Lindsey and Christine played to 2500-3000 people without Stevie. Even if Mick, John, Christine, and Lindsey played on as Fleetwood Mac without Stevie, what kind of venues do you think they would have played?

Stevie had an uptick in her popularity and was completely within her right to capitalize on it as much as she could.

I think this article shut down any shot of Fleetwood Mac with the SYW Lineup. Stevie reinforces that Lindsey is toxic to work with. Mick isn’t saying he wants to play on stage with Lindsey anymore, and Mick was hanging with Neil Finn, not Lindsey.

Whew, I was worried Stevie was the toxic member of the band and now I know better. She's merely an innocent victim of the torture she endured for decades for which she had no control over. Poor thing.

As for the band, I haven't seen them in over 2o years and have no desire to see them at this stage of their career, especially at the ridiculous price of tickets these days.

I like Mojo Magazine so I will end of getting this issue, but make no mistake this is a fluff piece comprised of mostly old interviews meant and used as promotion for her upcoming concert and confirm her status as the legend in her own mind that she and her management insists on calling her these days. I suspect there will be some cool older pics and that's the thing I'm most interested in.

Yeah the daggers really come out when all that’s left is defending/propping up a facade. I’ll argue that this really started as way back as 2000/2001. TISL leaned heavily on older material as well. Her era of being anywhere near prolific with her songwriting probably came to a close by 1989.

I don't know if this was discussed before, but I wonder if Mick or anybody related to the band has thought about creating a Broadway musical based in Rumours (or more FM songs). Rumours songs fit perfect for a story; not necessarily the history of the band, but a fiction like Mamma Mia or We Will Rock You. Though probably it wouldn't be a piece of art, but I thought in Mick cause he's always thinking in ways to earn money.

There's the drummer, the married couple bassist and keyboardist/vocalist, and partners guitarist/vocalist and vocalist/tambourinist. Isn't that weird?

Agreed. Clearly she feels ashamed for ousting Lindsey and trashing the legacy of "her" band (it's actually owned by Mick and John last time we all checked).

I just SINCERELY hope on balance, Lindsey realises even if she decides to offer the olive branch of a one off Say You Will lineup reunion, it's not in his best interests to accept the offer. Have some integrity.

Having been an equal fan of both bands going back to the 1970s .I have to say ABBA are the polar (pardon the pun) opposites of Fleetwood Mac when it comes to being curators of their legacies. Not only was Mamma Mia a huge success they released a studio album 40 years after their last which had some great highlights and was a worldwide hit. Their ABBAtar show which sounded hokey on paper is also a huge hit. They have been tasteful, classy and for 2 ex couples very cooperative with each other.

Who said Lindsey would’ve objected to “Storms”? Lindsey would’ve been fine playing that or any song from that lineup, and especially something off of Tusk.

Lindsey’s issue was play songs he wasn’t involved with (1967-1974, 1988-1995), aside from “Oh Well.”

As for “All Over Again “ it’s pretty clear that was one of the obscure songs she and Mick listened to in Italy in 2017. Do you really think Lindsey would have agreed to perform that?

The 2018 Fleetwood Mac had an issue with playing 1988-1992 songs. Behind The Mask was a #1 album in The UK. Paper Doll was a hit in Canada. Yes, I remember I have read that in this website, too. But I never knew what was the source or if that was mentioned in an interview too. I mean, I have read several things in The Ledge that were never verified, or that were definitely not true. I remember I read around october '97 that the Reunion Tour (aka The Dance) was suddenly cancelled because the band broke up (the post even described a bitter fight). But that tour was never cancelled.

Isn't it Midnight was played by the Post Rumours lineup, and in 2018 too. Was it played in the BuckVie tour? I didn't find a setlist that included, or a video in YT. Does anybody know? “Stand Back” was Top 5 hit and a Fleetwood Mac setlist staple since 1987 (when Stevie was in the band). Given where his career was going into 1997, I’m sure he picked his battles.

I don’t think Isn’t It Midnight was ever brought to Lindsey as a suggestion to play. But with Lindsey, we got Think About Me, Songbird, Over My Head, and Hold Me.
Save Me and Paper Doll were Top 10 hits yet they were not played by the 2018 lineup. Lindsey actually enjoyed playing Stand Back. He pumped up the front row for it by singing the chorus and bridge.

There you go with the “So?” again. Your first ever response to one of my posts here was “Who Cares?” I had no interaction with you in the thread yet you disrespected a poster. All Over Again, which I saw in concert four times, got dropped and The Only reason it was played was to be the band’s statement on firing Lindsey. And here’s the answer I’ll get: but they played it. How brilliantly thought.
If they really wanted to highlight 50 years of Mac, they should have dropped LB’s 3 songs and did BTM songs and dropped the covers for Time songs. And what did the inclusion of All Over Again do, take away Songbird from Christine. The staple of a FM set. But Who Cares to everything you don’t like right?

Just to respond to a different post, I believe I was the person who said Lindsey didn’t seem to want to perform Isn’t It Midnight live, but I never said it was a fact, just an opinion. FM performed it in 1987, 1990, and 2018, all without Lindsey; and Lindsey never performed it with FM, not in the Dance, the tour where Christine returned, or for Buck/Vie. I mean, it’s not hard to see the common denominator. And there’s nothing wrong with it, if for some reason he didn’t want to perform it live, so what?

Personally, I was glad Christine dropped Songbird live. I don’t even think she performed it during the Buck/Vie tour. I love the song, but I was thrilled to get a different song instead. I didn’t get the feeling All Over Again was some sort of F U to Lindsey.

Stand Back was a surprise when Lindsey rejoined, but he brought one of his solo songs to the setlist, too. I thought it was neat they brought those songs into the set, and it would have been even better if Christine had sung Got a Hold on Me, too.

I wonder if Christine asked Lindsey “Can we play Isn’t it Midnight?”. He is a co-writer and it wasn’t a hit single. Maybe he wasn’t able to play the guitar parts?
They didn’t play Songbird, Don’t Stop or World Turning on LBCM Tour, but they did play Game Of Pretend as the closing song, Wish You Were Here, Hold Me, some Christine hits, and 3 other new Chris songs.

Yes, they did SB and Go Insane for two tours and then for two tours they did SB only.

All Over Again was not an insult to Lindsey but just them saying we don’t regret firing Lindsey and we’d do it again tomorrow if we had to. They weren’t singing Planets Of The Universe or Fall From Grace!

She could have done it in 1987, 1990, 1997. What killed me is she did not do any on the Buck/Vie tour either. I am sure Lindsey suggested and she declined. She loved being part of the band.

BTW, Stand Back was not really a surprise in 1997. It was done on 2 previous Mac world tours and Stevie loved the reaction from the crowd. In 1997 I was like, oh no, not again can we get Sara instead.

I think Mick loved playing Stand Back as well and if I'm not mistaken wasn't it his idea in the first place to bring it into the 1987 set?

During that 4 part MTV interview thing on Netflix, they were asked if they were doing any solo songs as part of The Dance setlist and Stevie said no and Chris brought up that they were working on one of Lindsey's (presumably Go Insane). And it wasn't played in May at the recording of the video/album. So, at some point over the summer during rehearsals it was decided to bring Stand Back into the set. I wouldn't be surprised if they felt the set had a lull in it and needed something upbeat from Stevie and she or Mick suggested it. I don't think by 1997 that Lindsey cared if she did a solo song, especially since he was doing one. And after that, for 10 years and three world tours, Stand Back held a prominent place in the main set as the penultimate song before Go Your Own Way. The biggest shock for me was that it wasn't included in 2014-15 or 2018-19.

Same here. So in 2014 and 2015 Stevie performed Dreams, Rhiannon, Sisters of the Moon, Seven Wonders, Landslide, Gypsy or Sara, Gold Dust Woman, Silver Springs. I guess either Sisters of the Moon or Silver Springs knocked Stand Back out since she always does the other songs (not Sara though after 2017). I wish she had done Angel instead of Sisters for On With The Show, but that song is in the gothic trunk of lost songs.

I very vaguely recall Lindsey decided the 2014-15 tour was only going to be the Fleetwood Mac 1975-87, 1997 material. I wouldn’t even know where to find that, but I remember thinking that was a great decision.

LOL! I have been busier than usual, but the main reason is there’s nothing going on right now with the band OR individual members. I came here because I saw on FB that the magazine had come out and was curious if there was more stuff in the interview with Stevie. Here is where I saw Mick did a show with Crowded House.

I have to admit, I’m worried about Lindsey. His latest retrospective/rereleases is out, and no interviews at all, nor a tour. And the lack of touring is understandable, as he toured not long ago. But the lack of interviews? He had been very talky following his departure from FM. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon. Or maybe I’m being paranoid after Christine’s passing.

I guess I was surprised by the addition of Stand Back in 1996 because they didn’t perform it on the Dance special, but Christine did the same thing with Oh Daddy. But swapping Stand Back for Sara probably wouldn’t have worked- as already noted, Stand Back is such an upbeat song, while Sara is not. Sara would have been so much better than Sweet Girl.

Welcome back!
I was relived that Stand Back was not done on the OWTS tour. With Chris back in the band they needed lots of room for her songs. No solo songs needed.
I loved the Dance with the band back together. But I wish they would have scrapped Go Insane, Stand Back, and Not That Funny for Sara, Little Lies, Isn't It Midnight. Lindsey was already doing 2 new songs while the girls only did one. I could have done without the new songs and Farmers Daughter too. It could have been the setlist from heaven. Save Me A Place, Love In Store too.

Someone on twitter posted this excerpt, quoting Mick:

"It's no secret, it's no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally." Fleetwood tells MOJO of the impasse between Buckingham and Nicks, both of whom he stays in contact with. "Stevie's able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn't feel, as does Lindsey. But I'll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them - and that doesn't have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily."

Here's more from Mojo's website (link at end). Mick is doing a solo album on which it seems he will sing...... He also says there was an intention to do a big final farewell tour...though it's not clear who would have been on it....

Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood speaks to MOJO about the future of the band, the loss of Christine McVie and his new solo album.

By Bob Mehr | Updated20 Hours Ago

Speaking in the latest issue of MOJO, Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood has discussed the rift between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and the possibility of the band getting back together.

Nicks told MOJO last month that following the death of Christine McVie, a Fleetwood Mac reunion could no longer happen.

“Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work,” Nicks told MOJO’s Bob Mehr.

“Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems,” she continued, referring to Buckingham’s emergency open heart surgery in 2019. “It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding.”

“It’s no secret, it’s no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally,” Fleetwood tells MOJO of the impasse between Buckingham and Nicks, both of whom he stays in contact with. “Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey. But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.”

For Fleetwood, the one constant figure and unwavering force during the entire 57-year journey of Fleetwood Mac – the last few years have been, by his own admission, a personal and professional challenge.

When the most recent incarnation of Fleetwood Mac – Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks, aided by Neil Finn and Mike Campbell – played the last show of a year-long world tour in November 2019, the drummer didn’t think it would be a final farewell.

“There was a full intention, without waiting too long, that we’d go and pick things back up,” says Fleetwood. “That we’d play stadiums, big shows and festivals… and then at that point it was heading towards us saying goodbye.”

However, in early 2020 – just after Fleetwood led an all-star concert tribute to late Mac founder Peter Green at the London Palladium – lockdown scuttled further touring plans. An even bigger blow to the future of Fleetwood Mac came in November of 2022, with the death of Christine McVie.

Though Fleetwood is open to the idea of adding a final chapter to the band’s story_,_ he is mostly resigned to the fact that Fleetwood Mac, or as he puts it “the mothership”, may be harboured permanently.

“It’s been a strange time for me,” admits Fleetwood. “Losing sweet Christine was catastrophic. And then, in my world, sort of losing the band too. And I [split] with my partner as well. I just found myself sort of licking my wounds.”

Then, last summer, Fleetwood’s adopted home of Maui, Hawaii – specifically the city of Lahaina – was ravaged by a series of wildfires that killed over 100 people and destroyed some 80 per cent of its homes and businesses, including his long-running restaurant, Fleetwood’s, on Front Street.

“It was a hardcore hit for everyone on this lovely little island,” says Fleetwood. “I mean, we’re just lucky to be here – but there was a lot of terrible loss, lots of people without homes, people who were badly affected.”

Nearly a year after the fires, Fleetwood says the residents of Lahaina “are making progress. And people are coming back to the island, which gives us a lot of hope of coming through this. It just takes time. I’m even starting to think about bringing back my crazy little restaurant. It was a place where people around here would gather and commune.”

More recently, Fleetwood has sought solace and found renewed inspiration in playing music again. “I had to just get off my bottom,” he says. “I was sitting around twiddling my fingers for a long time. I finally plugged into the fact that I’m a drummer, I need to go play.” Fleetwood confirms he’s in the middle of making a new solo record, his first in 20 years. “And believe it or not, I’m actually starting to sing – so God help you,” he adds, laughing.

In between work on the project, Fleetwood will spend part of the summer in the UK, he performed with recent bandmate Neil Finn’s group Crowded House last month and he’s planning on attending Nicks’ Hyde Park concert this weekend, as well as by his old pal, ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.

“I’m gonna get myself a vicarious fix,” says Fleetwood. “For once, I get to be a punter in the audience and see them do all the work.”

Speaking to MOJO in April, Neil Finn described his shock at being invited by Fleetwood to take Buckingham’s place in the band.

“I was gobsmacked. I was 60 and I’d had a wonderfully diverse musical life when Mick called and said, ‘We’ve got rid of Lindsey, would you play with us?’” he told MOJO’s John Aizlewood.

Finn’s tenure with the band ended before Christine McVie’s passing and he’s since returned to Crowded House, who released their eighth studio album Gravity Stairs in May. However, Finn appears to back up Nicks’ assertion that despite the drummer’s hopes, Fleetwood Mac are no longer a going concern.
“[Fleetwood Mac] doesn’t currently exist, but when I was there Mick carried the flag. He always has and he’s the heart and soul,” said Finn.

“Yet Stevie’s the leader in many ways, because Stevie wants it the way Stevie wants it and that’s the way it’ll be. She couldn’t bear to be in a band with Lindsey anymore, but she still wanted to do it exactly the way he would have. It was more difficult for Mike Campbell: she was really happy with the way it sounded between me and her, but she put a lot of pressure on Mike to be more like Lindsey. Sometimes Mike’s solos would go on and Stevie would get exhausted playing tambourine. She’d be, “****ing hell, Lindsey only did 12 bars!”

It's pretty clear now that the events of 2019 were not thought out very well. Let's line our pockets off our fans at any cost. So Mick thought that version of FM would ride out into the sunset successfully playing stadiums and making him wealthy? If Mick really used his head (on his head) he would have realized that Stevie has been manipulating him since 1976 when she used their affair to secure her place in the band (He loved me and I loved him. There were some tender moments). It seems clear that either Stevie or Azoff or both led Mick and the band to believe that they would still continue working after Lindsey's firing and the high grossing karaoke tour. After all the bankruptcies and divorces Mick hasn't learned a thing.

In between work on the project, Fleetwood will spend part of the summer in the UK, he performed with recent bandmate Neil FinnÂ’s group Crowded House last month and heÂ’s planning on attending NicksÂ’ Hyde Park concert this weekend, as well as by his old pal, ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.

“I’m gonna get myself a vicarious fix,” says Fleetwood. “For once, I get to be a punter in the audience and see them do all the work.”

Speaking to MOJO in April, Neil Finn described his shock at being invited by Fleetwood to take BuckinghamÂ’s place in the band.

“I was gobsmacked. I was 60 and I’d had a wonderfully diverse musical life when Mick called and said, ‘We’ve got rid of Lindsey, would you play with us?’” he told MOJO’s John Aizlewood.

FinnÂ’s tenure with the band ended before Christine McVieÂ’s passing and heÂ’s since returned to Crowded House, who released their eighth studio album Gravity Stairs in May. However, Finn appears to back up NicksÂ’ assertion that despite the drummerÂ’s hopes, Fleetwood Mac are no longer a going concern.

“Rumours was a lot to experience – and all happened very fast. In a way, it still seems sort of unreal…” Stevie Nicks relives her rollercoaster ride in rock ‘n’ roll, from her first musical excursions, the wild success of Fleetwood Mac, solo stardom, fallen friends, Barbie and more. If Mick really used his head (on his head) he would have realized that Stevie has been manipulating him since 1976 when she used their affair to secure her place in the band

Ok, I think there is something I don't know. Please explain me how that affair secured her place in the band.

Because after seeing Lindsey saying in 1997 "and it was really after Rhiannon, the second single, that people started to say "Fleetwood Mac with hits, my God!". And after Dreams went N.1 in april 1977, and all the huge fandom Stevie got in the late 70s (justified or not), did she need an affair with Mick to secure her place in the band? Was that place in risk? Please explain me.
