I really enjoyed this. These guys are HUGE Stevie fans and review RAL. I may not agree with their love of the album but I found this very entertaining. They are so right about the cheezy RAL music videos. Stand Back had professional dancers and chorography. I Cant Wait and Talk To Me had Stevie's friends who could not dance and their moves are so bad and hilarious. Stevie is lip syncing different lyrics that she is singing. And dont forget the Stevie impersonator in the Talk To Me video. They are so campy compared to Wild Heart videos.
I had to laugh but in 1985 I had the same reaction with "I DONT REALLY NEED THIS IN MY LIFE" line. I also thought she sounded like the exorcist and I am glad I was not the only one to think that.

Thanks for posting this! I finally got around to listening to it and it was pretty entertaining. Since Unconditional Love has come up in another thread, I went ahead and listened to their podcast about Street Angel, and it was even better. Randy and Anthony are their names, and they were pretty brutal in their assessment of the album. They both hate it LOL. Interestingly enough, I no longer have In My Dreams or 24 Karat Gold, but I still have Street Angel. After listening to this podcast, I figured out why- IMD and 24KG are boring to me- I love Secret Love and Moonlight, but the other songs are mostly forgettable to me, while I find 24 completely forgettable. So I guess I hold on to it because the songs aren’t forgettable, just awful, but we must never forget LOL in order to make sure it never happens again!
But Street Angel, man there are songs on there that make my jaw drop… and not because they’re good. The title track is horrific! I was bound and determined to listen to the entire album, so I played it while on a road trip, but by some miracle of fate, I stopped to get gas just as SA came on, and I left it playing while I pumped gas, returning to the warmth of my car just as it was wrapping up. How did anyone let this song on the album?!?
The only songs Randy and Anthony said anything nice about were Blue Denim and Rose Garden, although Anthony said he liked some of the lyrics to Unconditional Love. I was surprised they couldn’t find anything nice to say about Maybe Love, though.
Some things of interest I learned from them:
- Listen to the Rain was originally supposed to have been on TimeSpace. Wow! No wonder the record company insisted on outside writers for the new songs.
- They brought up the very good point that many of the songs sound like they were recorded by someone on Klonopin- MLWCYM, UL, Destiny, SA, Jane, and Rose Garden plod along pretty sluggishly, and might have benefitted from a faster tempo. Can’t deny that.
- Love is Like a River and Listen to the Rain are almost interchangeable. The alliteration of the letters doesn’t help.
- They say her songwriting is at its weakest point on SA- duh.
I’m going to listen to their podcast for Other Side of the Mirror next. I’m curious if other folks have listened to these yet and what you think.
It’s all opinions, point of views etc..etc.. even like folks that don’t like her at all go figure.
I think all of her solo releases have great tracks and some not so much. One thing I would agree with the RAL podcast is that RAL tracks do all hang “better” together vs. in a random playlist . My playlists are either a 3k or a 12k random shuffle of all my favorite music. If not that, I play my cds or album’s from beginning to end. Old school and I love it!

These guys are definitely entertaining. There is a version of the Timespace version of Listen To The Rain on Youtube. I love that song. I can see why she was proud of it and wanted it on Timespace. Some great lines in that song.
I will never understand the love for RAL and the hate for Street Angel. I love half of Street Angel.
Even though I cant stand RAL, listening to reviews of it are really entertaining. The video talk was spot on. Her RAL videos were so mailed in and low budget. Stand Back and IAF had concepts. Stand Back was released during the peak of Flashdance and had highly trained choreographed dancers. Talk To Me and I Cant Wait had Stevie and her brother dancing horribly in baby stepping choreography. I love how they used the editing to make them dance backwards as to make them look move clever in their dancing. Like the Red Rocks concert its so bad its funny and entertaining. I listened to the OSOTM one and it was good too. The one guy made a great point. Doing The Best That I Can is so dark and so intense. Then suddenly circus music organ for the next song. I laughed out loud because I was always like WTF? The guy is spot on though Cry Wolf and I Still Miss Someone are duds. However every demo I have heard from this album is insanely bad (Dial the number). So Rupert had some scraps and probably forced her to sing other songs
