Will there be a comeback tour?

Will the Say You Will line up of the band reconvene one last time? Why/why not?

Real Music Observer blog/YouTuber thinks so, but someone I doubt it, even though he has been right about other things before. And before someone jumps down my throat, yes, I'm aware this has already been discussed in other threads but I could not find a recent, dedicated thread on the subject in the Rumours forum.

Stevie’s tour dates currently stretch into March 2024 (March 19 in Arlington TX). No word yet on Lindsey’s latest plans for a solo album, but he has a solo appearance booked for a charity event.

Children get older, and THEY’Z ALL GETTIN’ OLDER TOO.

The bow and stern lines have been untied and coiled, the fenders have been pulled up, and the SS Retire is pulling away from the dock.

Yeah, my grandma worked at the Australian equivalent of the DMV and everyone thought that her working until 72 or 73 was a bit much. Let alone touring and travelling with Stevie's heavy schedule at age 75.

Retirement seems likely. But Stevie once said "it's never gonna be a farewell tour until one of us drops dead", which sadly, Christine did. :distress:

If Christine hadn't succumbed to her cancer, unfortunately, maybe there could have been a farewell tour with Rumours 5, she seemed somewhat interested had she not had her back condition/cancer, in her latest interviews prior to her death. And I was listening to the Peter Green tribute concert - her last public performance - Christine sounds great on Stop Messing Round and Looking For Somebody.

I actually have not expressed a view either way, mate. Asking will it happen, does not automatically mean that I want it to be so. It's a hypothetical question about something and whether it is likely or not.

Agree with you that it's both unlikely and not a desirable event. The only good thing about it is that it would be nice for Lindsey and Stevie to mend their burnt bridges and for fans to see them perform together one more time - but this could be done as a duo, just doing Landslide and Big Love ... again, also unlikely, but more to my enjoyment than an almost full band reunion.

Agree it's unlikely and not a desirable event. Personally, I wouldn't go to a concert cause I know I wouldn't enjoy it. Not anymore.

Nice for Lindsey and Stevie to mend their burnt bridges? Definitely yes. I always think that resentment and bad feelings should be eliminated, chapters must be closed, etc. It is not healthy to live with bitterness towards anyone. But if they solve their issues, it is enough (to me) that they do it privately or enough sharing a post on the networks telling the fans. No tour needed.

I say no. The top reason is Lindsey reportedly did something to Stevie so unforgivable at MusiCares 2018 that she doesn't want to see him again.

I also don't think Lindsey or Stevie have the energy or vocal power to put on a 3 hour show worthy of $400 admission. John McVie is 78 years old and he's not a Jagger or Rod Stewart 78.

Stevie will do more athletic venue shows with Billy Joel in 2024 and her own indoor shows in between like she's doing now.

Yes, there will undoubtedly be a final farewell reunion of the Say You Will lineup. It will happen sometime in late 2024 or mid 2025.

The tour, in whatever capacity, will either be very short, or a series of sporadic dates similar to what Stevie is doing right now.

There will not be many dates, but a reunion/farewell of the Say You will lineup is inevitable. It will happen.

I disagree. John has sold all his gear. Bitter Stevie hates Lindsey. It's over. Stick a fork in it.

Wishful thinking on your part. Based on what Christine said John’s health, on John selling off all his gear in the auction, and his complete public radio silence since the last Fleetwood Mac show, I think it’s safe to say he’s done.

With Christine dead and John retired, Mick won’t do Fleetwood Mac.

Not as Fleetwood Mac. Maybe Buckingham Nicks featuring Mick Fleetwood, but not Fleetwood Mac. I don’t know if he even legally could without John’s blessing.

ETA: The bigger issue is Stevie. I don’t think she would feel any obligation or pressure to go out with Fleetwood Mac without the McVies, and she doesn’t need or want to work with Lindsey.

There’s no point in a Fleetwood Mac without any Mac’s involved. Chris is dead. John is seemingly retired. If Stevie wasn’t able to sell out arenas and coheadline stadiums with Billy Joel, she (and Irving) would likely be pushing for some weird ass Fleetwood Mac amalgamation with randoms involved along with Stevie and Lindsey - but that isn’t the case. They’re too old. Maybe the two children share a stage again for a few songs but the days of touring as Fleetwood Mac are likely done. And they should be. Nothing else needs to be said.

Wonder what Lindsey did at MusiCares that was so bad. Honestly, I reckon Stevie and Lindsey just never ever stopped hating each other's guts since 1977 and after 50 years, she and he didn't want to work together - and Stevie was the one with the power so she got to stay.

Well I’m not speculating on a 40 date North American tour.
The reunion will be short - a few sporadic dates.

And John “sold all his gear”. Is there no money to buy John a bass guitar and some “new gear” and let him sit in the corner and play it? Nope, he sold his gear and there’s not another bass to be found.

Heck - with the new technological sound systems for concerts — no one technically has to play anything. 6-10 dates, wheel them onstage with some backing tracks and call it a day. It’s not even about playing. It’s a way to close the book and say a proper goodbye.

When the Say You Will lineup reunites for a few concerts, it won’t even be a surprise. This band is so predictable . I can hear the speeches now.

MusiCares was just climax of something that had been building for a while. The tour negotiations sound like they were brutal and the animosity between Stevie and Lindsey became especially ugly.

Since Christine left us, I’ve decided I’m kind of done with Stevie and Lindsey. Their inability to be professional with each other coupled with Irving’s greed killed off what was an amazing band. I wish they both would have left after “Tusk” and Mick, John, and Christine carry on without them. I guess I could also be mad at them for not collectively demanding they get their $h!t together and commit to the band or leave, but arena money and adulation is a helluva drug, I guess.

I don’t think they’ve hated each other straight through at all. Some folks have said Stevie’s always wanted Lindsey out of FM, but we know that’s not true because of her reaction when Lindsey told them he was done after Tango came out. And years after that, she asked him to record Twisted with her. And he asked her to appear on his Soundstage special. I think they’ve gone through spurts where they’ve liked each other, loved each other, hated each other, and tolerated each other. And Lindsey doesn’t seem to hate Stevie now, which says a lot about him as a person.

 I know, I’m surprised people are saying there’s no way John would join for a few dates because he sold his gear. Like you said, if it was a 6 week tour or less, I think he would do it, but the longer it takes, the less likely it will happen. One thing FM did on their last tour that I thought was smart of them, considering their ages, was spread the dates out so they performed something like 3 days a week, giving them time to recover. A six week tour with 20 dates seems realistic. And I would definitely see them perform one last time.

I also think if they did tour but John declined to join them, that he wouldn’t try to stop them by refusing to let them tour under the name Fleetwood Mac. John doesn’t strike me as that petty a guy.

John selling all his gear is beyond money; I think it means he closed his book.
And about the proper goodbye, mmmm it must have been with Christine few years ago. I think it’s too late now. My opinion.

I agree. Mick said in his book about the Tango sessions The love-hate saga between those two will never end. But I think hate is an expression, the real feeling I guess is anger. An intermittent anger.

I think that said more about his feelings for Peter Green than his feelings about touring.

Also, John would have had to pay for his own travel for that tribute. For a FM tour, traveling would be arranged for him. It’s not that I think he’s cheap, I just suspect he didn’t have any desire to pay tribute to Peter.

Paul Simon was on Howard Stern this week and it was a fantastic interview. He said something that really applies to Fleetwood Mac. He was discussing when Simon and Garfunkel were breaking up. The record company was furious because they were the biggest sellers of albums worldwide. Paul said all duos break up. But then Howard pointed out when the breakups happen i.e. The Eagles, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards they always get back together.
Paul said they get back together NOT for the music but for the business. There is a huge difference. Besides Buck/Vie all Fleetwood Mac tours were not about the music but about the business of Fleetwood Mac. This is why I have always said there will be some sort of short lived official Farewell Tour. Mick will always need money and the Fleetwood Mac business may have one last gasp. Its why so many of us on this board are always frustrated at these tours. They are not about the music. We at the ledge are about the music.
And before everyone agrees, let me shame you SYW haters. Post Dance Irving was making groups money making touring machines. Lindsey wanted to make an album that some say went too far in his direction. Yet it gets flamed when one of the few times it was about the music. Yet the audience did not respond which only reinforced the band to be only about business.

I don’t know any behind the scenes stuff. My comment was just meant to say there’s a big difference between ‘retiring’ and not touring anymore, versus not performing one time at a tribute show for someone who used to be in your band. I definitely didn’t mean to suggest there might have been animosity or anything like that between John and Peter, but John clearly didn’t want to fly (or sail LOL) to another country to perform at the tribute. I mean, who knows when the last time was he saw Peter, so I appreciate that it might not been important enough for him to go to it.

Or the reality phase. The revolving musicians in the band over the decades shows they will stop at nothing finding ways to replace members only to have them sometimes reappear again. Chris is gone and John probably wont do it. It will be some sad mash of Mick, Stevie, Sheryl Crow, and dare I say Lindsey. The band went on without Chris, the soul of the band that was their biggest hit maker, keyboardist, and singer. They went on firing their lead guitarist and vocalist and sometimes producer. Then they stiffed their guitarists who replaced Lindsey when they needed them again. Mick will need one last short cash grab tour. Everyone is replaceable except Mick and Stevie. I am 100% against it. But history tells us what will happen. Stevie and Lindsey will hug on stage again.

The difference today from years past with the revolving door of members is time and age. As the song says, time waits for no one. They don’t have a lot of time left. Lindsey literally almost died a few years ago. They don’t have the ability to wait out Stevie’s current solo dates, develop some type of stupid reconciliation plan, plan a tour, get a new band rehearsed and ready for the stage. I just don’t see it. Maybe a one off but even that takes a backing band that they don’t have anymore.

Stevie seems to be doing fine with her lame setlist solo shows. Lindsey enjoys a moderate amount of success with his own shows and has the creative freedom to go out and do whatever he wants including new songs that he isn’t ever going to have in a reformed Fleetwood Mac. The wild card is mick - he will always need money but will he be able to get Stevie on board with what will be an in depth rebuilding of the band including S & L reconciling and agreeing to work together. Do we really think Lindsey will just go along with whatever Stevie demands related to who is in the backing band etc? Will Stevie really sit through rehearsals where Lindsey dissects every note that is being played and challenges what songs should or shouldn’t go in the set? Can Mick make any of that happen?

I don't disagree with anything you say. Lindsey has always held out an olive branch to Mick and the band. I don't understand it yet he's done it and clearly wants to work with them. Mick once said Lindsey was never coming back. Yet now he says it would be wonderful to work with him again because Mick needs him. Age has been against them for awhile now. It would be a sad incarnation and I dont want it to happen. I am just realistic that Stevie will want to close her career in a fake make up with Lindsey. In 1987 Stevie said she would never forgive Lindsey for breaking the chain. She did. Lindsey left swearing never to come back. He did. Stevie quit Fleetwood Mac over Mick's treatment. Yet she came back. Mick lost Chris, Stevie and Lindsey and still went on. Lindsey is still recording and can still play live and sing. Stevie can still tour. I think Mick can still do it and that's all that counts. Mick can only make money with a Stevie/Lindsey tour.

On the Grammys Red Carpet, Mick did make a point of saying Fleetwood Mac has survived from loss in the past. I’m not sure if a Stevie/Lindsey/Mick/John tour would sell more than one with Neil Finn. Plus Stevie staff and associates made Lindsey out to be Ted Nugent so there’s a lot of “hate” for Lindsey among the Stevie fans but I suppose if Stevie did the tour they’d buy the tickets anyway.

But it won’t happen. More stadium shows for Stevie. She can bring Elton out of retirement or open for The Stones.

TikTok comments sections are FULL of people actively talking about how Lindsey and Stevie are still madly in love and that they need to get back together. Literally, today. In 2023. These people are delusional morons and should be insulted.

And let’s be fair - this isn’t a TikTok thing or a “young people today” thing. Fans for decades have been way too deeply involved emotionally in a relationship that ended 10, 20, 30, 40, and now, nearly 50 years ago. That the band fake played that crap up for years with the inauthentic kissing and hugs is even worse and they deserve even more insults!

Stevie’s Tour Manager was the No Filter 2021 Tour Manager. You know more than anyone Waddy is friends with Keith. Stevie met Mick at the Ahmet Ertegun tribute and I’d bet Mick knows of Stevie’s draw. Please no Stevie singing “Gimme Shelter” with Mick Jagger. Maybe “You’re So Vain,” but not “Gimme Shelter.”

Now, Bekka Bramlett would make total sense, especially since they originally wanted Bonnie Bramlett to sing on it, but Delaney & Bonnie were on tour. I’d say lucky for Mary Clayton, but she miscarried because singing that.

I'm on the same page, that Stevie needs to go on a diet. HOWEVER, Gimme Shelter is the GREATEST BACKGROUND VOCAL OF. ALL. TIME. Please keep her high goatness away from that song.

Steve's right though. Bekka is the only one ever from the FM camp that could do it justice. Bekka would KILL IT!

What a sad ending. Clinging to shreds of a once great band. And for WHAT? To be embarrassed by your awful 80yo vocals? To play with karaoke tracks? To pretend to dance around the stage when you should be in a wheelchair? To stage fake love, for the sake of some idiot fans?

I'm embarrassed for them. Because it's over, and they can't accept it.

Hi Homer,
After watching the, uploaded, YouTube concert in Houston, Texas, I have to sadly agree with some of your comments:
I don't know why she doesn't try to recreate the 'Amazing' 'Rumours' version of 'Gold Dust Woman' with the 'American Indian-esk' percussion beat, rather than the embarrassingly long 'crackhead dance'! What is this, even, all about? If she explained the reason she does that, it might be easier for her audience to understand. I feel she could of tried to communicate more with the audience regarding, whether or not, she is, even, trying to get healthy, so we can sympathise with her instead of feeling sorry for her. I compare her, at the moment, with Kylie Minogue and I know she is a 'pop singer', but Kylie treats her fans with respect enough to, at least, try to recreate the original recorded music, allowing for a live music experience. I have only seen her live once, but I was extremely impressed with her professionalism, stage presence and positive attitude. I just wish we could experience this feeling with Stevie as well, for the sake of her reputation and legacy. Just my opinion, of course. :wavey:

I love it when people think they're going to come here and spank my ass over stating my opinion. Especially when I'm within the rules of the board.

Be careful...I might enjoy it(that can be taken a couple different ways, and it's intentional).:woohoo:

Your opinions on this matter are my opinions. The band is DONE. It was certainly done after Lindsey was fired. In many respects, it was done BEFORE Lindsey was fired.

The last gasp they had towards relevance was the BuckVie project. That should have been a FM album and the tour to support it the last goodbye. Money, spite, fear, and agents got in the way of this.

Yep. Firing Lindsey ended any relevance they still had.

BuckVie WAS the last FM project, even if the old goat kept it from being called that. I'm GLAD the project turned out the way it did(although not for their legacy- but for me). Goat free. No drama, just love(you could feel it!). Tickets were affordable. Hell, I was front row, pushing a dozen roses into Christine's toeses. I GOT THE SWAN SONG I WANTED. Did I mention that it was goat and drama free?

I'm just saying I disagree, I'm not spanking anything, nor ordering anyone to shut up, etc.

The reason why I disagree was within the concerts context. The general masses who doesn't know all the FM history could enjoy the (fake) love gestures and my opinion is because they just don't know.

I could go to a concert of any other band where the members have a long hate story (that I ignore) and if I see them smiling and hugging, I could celebrate, ignoring the actual hipocrisy that is there. My point is that I would be ignorant, not an idiot. That's why I considerer unfair to label common fans idiots. Not all fans are well informed.

Now if there are people at social networks that assure Lindsey and Stevie are still madly in love, of course they are deilusional morons as jmn3 said. But my point was just about the fans at concerts and what they would watch.

I think this thread is blurring opinion with predictability. My opinion is the band was getting past their expiration date before Lindsey was fired. I don't want to see any sort of reunion with Stevie and Lindsey. Even if Chris was alive, I am not sure she could still do it. She pretty much lost her ability to play and was struggling vocally. Now that she is gone post Lindsey, its foolish and insane for any sort of reunion. Having said that, my hunch would be there will be some sort of reunion to make peace and pretend while making a bunch of money.
I can separate my opinion from what I think will happen which is the title of this thread. Will a reunion happen? I would hate to see it but I bet it will happen. Stevie, Lindsey, and Mick can still function and perform live.

However, you’re cherry picking their history to get to that conclusion, ignoring things like Lindsey refusing to play the 2013 Oceana dates without John.

Stevie, Lindsey, and Mick can still function and perform live.
If they hadn’t fired Lindsey and if John hadn’t made it clear he’s done, then I’d agree a reunion would be possible. But without the McVies, I don’t think any of the others would agree to go back out as Fleetwood Mac.

Even if Stevie and Lindsey have a reconciliation and do a project with Mick, it won’t be as Fleetwood Mac.

Fair enough about John, but I think Mick's comments along the lines of "I think we're done, but you never know with this band" or whatever the wording was, made it clear at least Mick would keep Fleetwood Mac going if he has any say in it.

Mick left the door open, just like he did in 2012 Playboy interview, then Stevie came out on Loose Women talk show and confirmed they would be doing a world tour the following year, in 2013.

Someone said Lindsey refused to tour Oceania dates in 2013 because of John's poor health and not wanting to do the shows without John. I had no idea that was Lindsey's decision, I had tickets to an Australian show of the 2013 tour and was devastated to miss it, thank god they came back -- I didn't think there would be another tour after the 2013 one, at the time. But that's partly because I was 20 years old and really freaking out over nothing, as teenagers and young people do.

But come to think of it. Yeah, if Christine had not returned, I think "2013 Fleetwood Mac Live" tour could well have been their last.

Stevie has announced dates today through 2024. I don't see any reunion coming up soon. I also think the songs are getting a bit stale in the arrangements. I just listened to Jewel and Foo Fighters doing Stop draggin my heart around and it was awesome. Jewel can sing those high notes and the music was so driving. The ending was really good too. I'm seeing Stevie Wednesday in Pittsburgh and I dread hearing SDMHA again from her. It's so plodding and has no passion to it at all. Also Rhiannon. Those are the two that of course she has to sing, but they aren't very good live anymore. She really needs to change Rhiannon. " Well, I don't think you do" is so tired. I personally don't want another reunion with Chris gone. It got really ugly with Lindsey's firing. I say put a fork in it. It's done.

You may not call it Fleetwood Mac just like many of us did not call the 2018 version Fleetwood Mac. I was not cherry picking anything just pointed out some of the history. You pointing out some Lindsey date from 2013 has no relevancy. Let's talk post Lindsey termination. Lindsey said he is game to go back. Mick now says he will welcome Lindsey back (after saying it would never happen).
You realize that is what I said, it would be Mick, Stevie and Lindsey since they are the only ones that can still tour. YOU may not call it Fleetwood Mac but everyone else will. If I recall you took offense to Fakewood Mac. I will remain consistent. It was Fakewood Mac then and would be Fakewood Mac again. Why have you changed your tune?

I was at this concert sitting a few feet from the stage. The reverb and harsh sound from the backing tracks created an experience much like sitting in an echo chamber tripping on acid. I left the arena with a migraine headache.

Nonetheless, I was happy to throw my money down for any member of the band that I've been faithfully following for nearly 50 years. There is very little time left, so I'm trying to enjoy the end as best I can. But, oh, those backing tracks are awful.

The thing is, Fleetwood Mac was not founded by or with either McVie. Peter created the name to lure John away from John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. So technically Fleetwood Mac existed before the McVies and thus could exist without them. I think Mick would be open to proceeding without John but would Stevie and Lindsey? I get the impression they wouldn’t.

I think a Buckingham Nicks tour (maybe even with Mick) would be the ultimate way to wrap up their careers. With Stevie just announcing yet another solo tour next year I’m just not sure that’s in the cards anymore. At one point I would have wagered that she’d eventually get bored and crave the Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey drama to mix things up. But I think touring with the likes of Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, The Pretenders, Tom Petty etc over the past 20 years she’s been able to keep things interesting for herself without having to deal with Lindsey etc again. I think she likes being in charge and not having to compromise on anything. I’ve always rolled my eyes when folks speculate that FM is done because they’re too old etc but I think we may have finally crossed that bridge.

Most strangely of all, I feel badly for Mick. He must feel quite aimless right now. The band he sacrificed absolutely everything for is no more and the surviving members all seem to have moved on without him. His mother is dead, his marriage is over, his restaurant is gone, etc.

Bob Brunning did like six shows with Fleetwood Mac.

The name came from a session. One of the other songs was “Greenie.”

Peter named the band Fleetwood Mac in part to lure John away from Mayall, but also because he knew he and Jeremy would eventually move on and wanted Mick and John to be able to continue without them.

Don't side step the question Steve.
Mick has always called his band Fleetwood Mac no matter who was in it. You discarded this thread's premise by saying Mick, Stevie, and Lindsey they may do something together but it wont be called Fleetwood Mac.
The only time its not allowed to be called Fleetwood Mac is when Stevie is not involved (BuckVie). You need to dig out the rule book and read it again. The business side of Fleetwood Mac needs the name.

Say You Will - Live 2013 was FM. 2018 was Fleetwood Mac, however, it was the only new lineup not to make music. Marilyn Martin said it great in her RS interview that you had four FM members with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers. It’s like Vince Gill and Deacon Frey - not band members.

The Stones are releasing a new album with their new drummer, but even dear Charlie is on two tracks and said tracks were recorded with Charlie in the room. The 2018 lineup couldn’t even release a new album next year and have new tracks with Christine, because Stevie wouldn’t make a new album with the 2018 lineup with all the time they had from March 2018-October 2018. December 2018-January 31, 2019. June 2019-August 2019. November 2019 until Covid. Instead they finished as a jukebox act.

I think everyone considers Time a FM album, and Stevie wasn’t on that. Also, I’ve never seen an interview where Stevie said Buck/Vie couldn’t have been a FM album, but I do recall that hilarious interview where Lindsey was asked why they didn’t just call it a FM album, because 4 members had recorded it, and he acted perplexed why the interviewer asked that question, and Lindsey’s publicist stepped in and told the interviewer the interview would end if he didn’t move on. The only people who said it WASN’T a FM album were Lindsey and Christine, unless you have a link saying otherwise.

This is how Mick felt in 1990. However it's one thing to say when you're 43 how you'll feel when you're 80. And another thing is how you really feel when you are already 76. Plus what your closest friends think.

Yet I also want Fleetwood Mac to go on until Eternity. If anyone else quits, John McVie and I will just go out and find another front line. As McVie says, it's too late to send away for a computer training course.

I'll keep playing forever. That's how I really feel. I'm going to be an eighty-year-old rocker, and they'll have to take me out and shoot me to get me to stop.

No I didn’t, but is it the comment everyone posts all the time here, something about “not understanding the point” or something like that? RollingStone asked her in early 2017 why she wasn't on the upcoming album with Lindsey and Christine or might she still participate. Stevie said I've been on the road since September 2016 (she actually started rehearsal sometime in September 2016, tour started October 25) so I don't get their premise.

She was saying Mick, John, Christine, and Lindsey didn't want to wait till she was available to make an album with her. While in the same interview admitted what you thought she meant by. get their premise, saying she wasn't interested in making another album because there would be arguing and then it wouldn't sell a lot. So she favored going on tour and making lots of money.

So her comment about not getting their premise was her being a snake and not truthful. The public isn't involved like fans on The Ledge so they believed Lindsey didn't wait for Stevie to start a FM album.

The right answer would have been I won't be participating because I am focusing on a solo tour and as I said earlier, I am not committing to making more music with Fleetwood Mac. But she didn't want to look like she wasn't a team player.

It was jealousy. Not in the sense that she wants to be or record with LB. She doesn't. It was frustration over the fact that they made her tour again in 2014. The price tag was UGE.

The fact that he and Christine actually published something and then toured to support it, made her look bad. She's not a band player, she's a diva. I also suspect she was dried up in the writing dept, so there's that too. I mean listen to tone deaf, Show Them The Way.

It makes zero sense for her to begrudge them moving along without her, but it's Chiffon. What can I say? And, what can SHE say? But, "I don't understand the premise..."

Mick has always called his band Fleetwood Mac no matter who was in it.
John is 50% owner of the Fleetwood Mac name and only missed the first six shows, all of 25 days, knowing it was his band for the taking whenever he was ready. Brunning said the band was upfront about him only being a temp until John joined. So, no, it’s not Fleetwood Mac without John.

You discarded this thread's premise by saying Mick, Stevie, and Lindsey they may do something together but it wont be called Fleetwood Mac.
They already did something together, and it was credited to Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham, not Fleetwood Mac.

Why do you suppose that was? Fleetwood Mac (Time) was broken up by that point.

If Mick can simply use the name at his and only his discretion, why didn’t he?

I don't see Stevie walking away from her current touring model of doing 5-7 shows a month. It allows her to do her legacy Stevie schtick and get the attention that she apparently, desperately craves. She can pay Irving a gazillion dollars and she can walk around patting herself on the back for playing stadiums and arenas on her own. Billy Joel is ending his Madison Square Garden residency, his schedule will be wide open. Plenty of time for the Stevie Nicks & Billy Joel - Dentures and Adventures tour.

Plus, there's no way Lindsey is going to play Free Fallin' and we all know thats a core stipulation of all future performances. I think at this point, even Tom is cringing.

Threw a guitar at Stevie but they waited 40 years to address it.

That’s what drives me nuts about that entire incident. Nobody worldwide knew anything about it (except that some people at the actual concert noticed something “weird” happening) until Stephen Davis wrote it up in Mick’s 1990 book. Nobody else in the band had ever talked about it or probably even remembered it until it was in print, and the print version is never consulted (except possibly by Villavic!). Mick/Stephen only said in the book that Lindsey had been hitting the bottle and was playing deliberately out of tune on some things and then pulled off some shenanigans during “Rhiannon”: pulling his stage jacket up over his head like chiffon, flicking his foot at a crouching Stevie during her witch dance, and doing something very unclear with tossing his guitar in her direction. Mick talked about it again that year when he appeared on Graham Nash’s TV interview show, and Mick stuck to the Stephen Davis story.

Somehow, out of that, it grew into this violent psychodrama of throwing heavy equipment at poor Stevie and kicking her and going completely off the rails, and the story is so third-hand and fourth-hand and fifth-hand by now that it’s all you hear about in every comment section under every video.

On the old newsgroup, someone in the audience popped in to tell everyone what he saw: he remembers Lindsey being a little drunk and acting nutty. In rock and roll?! Gosh, who would have thought?

Somehow, out of that, it grew into this violent psychodrama of throwing heavy equipment at poor Stevie and kicking her and going completely off the rails, and the story is so third-hand and fourth-hand and fifth-hand by now that it’s all you hear about in every comment section under every video.

On the old newsgroup, someone in the audience popped in to tell everyone what he saw: he remembers Lindsey being a little drunk and acting nutty. In rock and roll?! Gosh, who would have thought?

Nobody else in the band had ever talked about it or probably even remembered it until it was in print, and the print version is never consulted (except possibly by Villavic!).

Yes, I think I have posted it in the past. Just in case here is again. This is what Mick wrote (Tusl tour) in his first book, it doesn't exactly say Lindsey threw a guitar to Stevie, but it may be in another book:

In mid-March we flew off to New Zealand to play in front of sixty thousand fans in Auckland. The show also went out live over the radio to the rest of the country. By then, the exhaustion of constant travel began to set in, and we were all pretty brainfried. Lindsey hit the old scotch bottle a little too hard before the concert, and halfway through the performance he snapped like a guitar string tuned ten octaves too high. First I noticed that he was playing out of tune. Then he started to clown around and mimic Stevie while she was dancing around the stage. Then, while she was hunched over, upstage of Lindsey, during her "Rhiannon" performance, he stopped playing and pulled his jacket over his head in a grotesque imitation of her pose. At that point he lost all control, playing anything except "Rhiannon," laughing like a madman.
Then he started to kick Stevie while she was trying to salvage the number. Sixty thousand people were watching! Lindsey would flick his foot at her and Stevie would shy away, trying to cover up his stoned-out behavior to save us all from dying of embarrassment. The rest of the band could only look at each other in disbelief.

The show finally over, we stumbled into the stadium's rugby changing rooms, where we were dressing. There would be no encore that night: we were all freaked out. I could hear the crowd screaming for more as Christine McVie stormed into the room, utterly hell-bent, and made straight for Mr. Buckingham, who was slumped miserably on a bench. Lindsey stood up, and Chris smacked him crack! right in the face. Then she threw her drink at him for good measure. "Don't you ever do this to this band again," she shouted. "Ever! Is that clear?" Then she stormed out again.

Silence. Then someone pulled on my sleeve to tell me I had to go on live radio ta say a few words and I'm completely traumatized! They shoved me into a trailer and started to ask questions. I dreaded talking about the incident with Lindsey, but it turned out they either didn't notice it or thought his behavior was part of the act, or just a joke. All credit went to Stevie, who had kept her dignity and salvaged the show, and Christine and Lindsey didn't speak to each other for a week afterwards.

I mean, when you throw an electric guitar and it lands on the stage floor, can you imagine the noise coming through the PA? Not to mention the potential damage to the instrument — did his roadie have to bring out another Turner for him to finish the concert?

I have no doubt that Lindsey was acting like a jerk and was both baked and drunk. I just want to peel back the incrustation of storytelling and get to what actually happened, who witnessed it, and how big of a mess it actually created. Mick said that the show was simulcast for New Zealand radio. Where is that? Nobody in New Zealand managed to get a cassette recording of it?

The band did acknowledge something happened in New Zealand in 1980 because during the OWTS tour with Chris there were headlines and interviews with the band saying it was their first time all back there since that infamous show. We don't t know the extent of what happened but it was enough for Chris run backstage and hit Lindsey.
I suppose Stevie injured herself the same if not more by falling off the stage several times in 1986. Stevie has never commented on it. Its always others.

Consider the enormous variety of memories, several of them contradictory.

Stevie 2005: “We were on the last song of the set ... that is the first and only time we have not done an encore.”
Carol Harris: “The band had only been playing for a little while.”
Mick 1990: “Halfway through the performance, he snapped.”

Mick 1990: “He started to kick Stevie while she was trying to salvage the number [“Rhiannon”].
Rolling Stone 1997: “He came over—might have kicked me, did something to me, and we stopped the show.”
2009: “After their team meeting, Fleetwood Mac did return to the stage.”
Carol Harris: “The whole show fell apart.”

Mick 1990: “It turned out they [the audience] either didn't notice it or thought his behavior was part of the act, or just a joke.”
Carol Harris: “The audience was stunned.”
2009: “Street Talk was the support act that night ... as Fleetwood Mac deteriorated in front of our eyes, I remember a chant starting up—‘Bring back Street Talk.’ ”

2009: “It was March 1980 in Wellington ... that night in Athletic Park” [March 20, 1980].
Mojo 2003: “Playing to 60,000 in Auckland, New Zealand” [March 22, 1980, in Western Springs Stadium].
2009: “Hammond [opening act Street Talk] said the gig that followed at Western Springs was a good concert but Wellington was most definitely ‘meltdown night.’ ”
Mick 1990: “In mid-March we flew off to New Zealand to play in front of sixty thousand fans in Auckland.”

Did this happen in Auckland or Wellington?
Did the audience notice or not?
Did it happen during “Rhiannon” or the end of the show before the encore?
Did Fleetwood Mac return to the stage or not?
Did Lindsey kick or not?
Did Lindsey throw guitar or not? Why does Stevie call it a black Les Paul, when Lindsey was playing a Turner on every song that Stevie was onstage for?

The thing that strikes me about the New Zealand show mythology is that if it was broadcast on the radio why has it not been shared all these years later? We have good and crappy bootlegs of material all through the years, so it's hard to believe someone doesn't have a copy. It might be hard to tell what happened by just audio, but it would still be nice to have another soundboard of a Tusk show. That's why I find it hard to believe at least part of the story. Heavens knows that they were all wasted out of their minds and probably burnt out from touring, so it's hard to tell who to believe. Even though Lindsey and Stevie have turned being antagonist to each other into an art form, I still find it hard to believe some of these stories.

Even if there was a bootleg, I doubt it would be so noticeable that you would be able to hear anything. Its not like the band stopped playing mid song and Chris ran to get Lindsey. It was probably something inappropriate the band saw in the set and during their break before the encore it was "game on." Unless there was visual footage of the incident we must rely on folklore and urban legend.

Isn't it? Yes Lindsey told it so in the Classic Album Rumours video 1997, but Mick's first book (1990) kind of tell not exactly the same but very similar story:

Olsen replied that Lindsey was part of a team, the other half of which was his girlfriend, Stevie Nicks. They had a band called Buckingham Nicks and were very much a pair. Keith said he didn't think Lindsey would be interested in joining
Fleetwood Mac without Stevie.

Without hesitating, I told him that I wanted them both. Then I called Mickey Shapiro and said, "I met these guys and am asking them to be in the band."

Which lines up almost exactly to what Keith Olsen said in 2012

“Then I got a call on New Year’s Eve, and Mick says, “I’ve had some bad news. Bob Welch just decided to leave the band. So, that fellow in that band you played me—would you see if that guy would like to join my band?” And I said, “Well, they’re going to come as a set. Because they’re very much into their own thing, and the only chance of getting them to drop that would be to bring them both on.” And he says, “Well, maybe that will work. Can you see if you can convince them to join my band?”

So I drop what I was going to do on that New Year’s Eve, take my date, and we drive over to Stevie and Lindsey’s house. I said, “Hey, Happy New Year” and all of this—I brought over the obligatory bottle of bad champagne—and I said, “Can we talk? Mick Fleetwood would like you to join Fleetwood Mac.” Immediately, Lindsey said, “Oh, no, no—I couldn’t possibly play anything as good as Peter Green did. How am I supposed to get up there and play ‘The Green Manalishi’?” Finally I get them, by the end of the night, to try it on a trial basis for eight weeks.”

The last time Fleetwood Mac performed together was in late 2019. With Christine McVie, your best friend, sadly not with us anymore, do you envision a scenario where the band can ever tour again?

We did go out on the road and do a year-and-a-half tour with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell. We had a really great time and it was a huge tour. That was there in the realm of possibility. But when Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend. When I think about Taylor Swift’s song “You’re on Your Own, Kid” and the line “you always have been,” it was like, that was Christine and I. We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other. Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.

That’s the sense I had. It took two guitarists to replace Lindsey Buckingham because that’s how good he is on a skill level.

Yeah.

But Christine’s spirit is unquantifiable.

And her songs, you take out all of those songs. Christine was the pop star. She wrote all those really super pop hits. None of the rest of us could write those songs. What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.

Stevie Nicks Says There’s ‘No Reason’ to Continue Fleetwood Mac After Christine McVie’s Death

Stevie Nicks sees “no reason” in continuing Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie, a musician who was the band’s keyboardist as well as one of its vocalists and songwriters. McVie died in November of last year.

“When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it?” Nicks said in a new interview with Vulture. “She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend.”

As a member of Fleetwood Mac, McVie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. During that same year, McVie parted ways with the band to pursue a solo career after being with them for almost 30 years. She later performed on stage with them in 2013 during the band’s London performance and then officially rejoined prior to their 2014 On with the Show tour.

In November of 2022, McVie died of a stroke at the age of 79. At the time, she was battling metastatic cancer.

Nicks also opened up about her experience watching Amazon Prime Video’s “Daisy Jones and the Six.” Based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the story about the rise and fall of a ’70s rock band was heavily inspired by Fleetwood Mac. In an Instagram post, Nicks likened the experience of streaming the series to “a ghost watching my own story.”

When asked to expand on those comments, Nicks praised the “snappy sarcasm” between Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy (Sam Claflin), comparing their relationship to the one she had with lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. She also praised the series for understanding it was “all just to keep the music going,” saying that the Amazon original “got it.”

Over their roughly 50 years together, Fleetwood Mac has emerged as one of the world’s best-selling bands. The Grammy-winning album “Rumors” is perhaps their best known work, selling more than 40 million copies worldwide.

“I don’t think they are going to do it again,” Campbell said. “I don’t really see it, because Christine (McVie) is gone now and Stevie (Nicks) is really busy. So, I have my doubts that they would crank that up again.

“I don’t really see that ship leaving the port again. But if they asked me, and my time was open, I would certainly do it because I love the people and their songs are really good.”

What she should have said:

"I loved that Chris came back to the band. I was no longer the only girl. But Chris and Lindsey were working together and recording music. They wanted to be creative so I could not allow myself to be a part of that. Yes, I was jealous. It was my belief we were only doing cash grab concerts. Anyone and everyone is replaceable for cash grab tours which is where we found ourselves. Only I should be allowed to make a new album. I had that World Turning feeling all over again. How could they forget that Fleetwood Mac is nothing without me."

You can't replace her huh? That whole debacle with Sheryl Crow in 2010 must have been due to a momentary lapse in my medication and I hallucinated the whole thing.

OTOH, maybe there would have been another Fleetwood Mac if that had happened. Maybe it would have been better for the band dynamics. Plus, Sheryl would have known she was gone the second Christine decided to come back.

I'm pretty sure it was Lindsey who put the kabosh on replacing both CHRISTINE AND JOHN.

Christine was already in the process of rejoining Fleetwood Mac when John got sick. Replacing John would have been temporary and only if they couldn’t get out of the 2013 Oceana leg for some reason.

I don't think Christine would have come back if they had replaced her. Maybe, in her own mind she wouldn't have even have asked.

Who knows...

Maybe not.

Still, moving on with Sheryl because Christine chose to retire over ten years earlier versus moving on with Sheryl in the wake of Christine’s passing, after Christine’s remarkable surprise six year final act isn’t really the same equation.

I think the wind has permanently left the sail, now.

It's all fun and games until Lindsey decides to collaborate with Sheryl on a new Fleetwood Mac album and the queen of reebok gets wind of it.

It's like some selfless person inhabited her body for 30 seconds.

I automatically imagined Stevie in Regan MacNeil situation.

I would never want them to continue without Christine McVie. Even though, shippers out there are professing now that Christine is gone, they can get back together and finally love each other proper!!!

FM with Sheryl Crow would have been the Unleashed Tour with Christine songs in it. There is no way there would have been a new album. Sheryl wasn’t a big draw back then either to affect record sales and Stevie was in her “beware of internet piracy” phase then and probably stay away from Lindsey thinking. Had Sheryl joined, I don’t think Storms would have been played live.

Have they not read any of their interviews over the past decade?

Desperate attempts to associate herself with Taylor Swift, a barbie doll in her image, a sultry acknowledgment of Lindsey with a single "yeah".

I'm tempted to use stronger words to describe all this, but it's just a bit sad.

Exactly. At some point, you just accept or don't accept people for the way they are. True colors of her were shown 2003 ish going forward. While I applaud her climb to superstar solo artist, I cringe at how it's changed her.

Well after her comments about Fleetwood Mac, I guess we have answered the question. No there will not be any FM reunion. I do see Mick and Lindsey working together again though.

Ever since that Bob Dylan comment she’s been beyond obnoxious. Once her mother died she became completely insufferable. Tom was probably the last straw. Her parents, Petty, and Lindsey, were seemingly the only people who were able to tell her off and temper her worst attributes. The Nicks’ and Petty are gone and Lindsey was removed from her world once she proved that she could get Fleetwood Mac to stand alone without him as long as she was front and center. Now she doesn’t even need the Fleetwood Mac name - the band allowed her to become Fleetwood Mac and carry on with the endless regurgitating stale setlist tours without them.

That would be fun, particularly as they seem to have reconciled a little. If John has been part of that process too, maybe he could be persuaded to contribute to a track or two for a future Lindsey solo project, like he did with Down on Rodeo. Wasn't there talk of some sort of "Men of Mac" thing a few years ago? It's a bit late now, though, given all the smoke signals given out by John about calling it a day.

This is an impressive presentation, David! No joke. Quite entertaining and instructive.

Th Nothing ruins a good story like the truth...

Yes. Remember how "Gold Dust Woman" was reframed as a cautionary drug tale in the late 90s? But in original interviews from 1977, Stevie talked about it being a song about jealous women who were hostile to her and Chris but "all smiles" when the men walked in the room.

In the 90s, the cocaine allegory was sexier.

And then there is "Landslide." I knew Stevie lost her marbles when, in 2005, she said "Landslide" is about Katrina. I realize that now."

No way! The silver spoon had nothing to do with jealousy in the 70s! Steve Rubell must have laughed if he saw that interview.

Christine was the pop star. She wrote all those really super pop hits. None of the rest of us could write those songs. What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.

What's this? The QUEEN OF ROCK drawing up her petticoat in alarm at having a few rockers in the set?
