I always wondered who is the guy who says Ladies & Gentlemen... please... Welcome Fleetwood Mac, in the 70s concerts, since the first time I heard him at the Live 1980 album before Monday Morning. But he is also in Intro at Rumours Expanded 35th anniv., Intro (Live At Wembley, 6/26/80) at Tusk Deluxe, and some bootlegs shared in the past.

Not sure if it's the same voice at the deluxe white album (Get Like You Used To Be -Live at Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ, 10/17/1975), but I think it is. Does anybody know who is? It doesn't sound like Lindsey.

John Courage, I've always believed.

I believe John Courage also managed Christine and also introduced her on her solo tour.
The vocal introduction sure sounds like the 1980 live album here.

Yes, tour manager John Courage is the intro voice.

Wasn't John Courage also in charge of handing out all of those bottlecaps full of cocaine to the band before they took the stage? I think I read this in Mick's book.

His introductions were certainly full of high energy and enthusiasm!

He accepted me as a Facebook friend, and he even commented on a few of my posts. It was an honor, exchanging comments with him. RIP, Colonel.

It makes sense it was John Courage until the Tusk tour. He was fired by the band's lawyers right after that meeting I described in another post, where they questioned the low income of the tour.

I chatted with him a few times on FB also and he told me that intro voice was his. I told him I always thought it was Mick Fleetwood.

Courage introduced all the way through the 1980 tour.

But who introduced in 1982? Maybe that’s a question for the Elevator Game — to anyone with a still-intact brain. Richard or Ken maybe?

Somebody could post the audio of a 1982 intro (“Let’s give a monstrous welcome . . .”) to Lindsey’s Instagram and ask him to ID the voice.

.

Was he on stage introducing the band? Or was it king of a voice-over?

The stage was completely dark right before the intro, so John was probably backstage. Unless he was up in the rafters, monkeying around and swinging everywhere. See how this guy (not John) introduces Mac with the lights out and the band members taking their places?

Back in those days, the crew used to finish their setup with Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” music (the theme from The Exorcist) playing across the arena. It was very eerie. That’s how we always knew that Mac would take the stage in about ten minutes.

Damn that would have been so cool. So much better than the crickets.

Did Stevie ever come out and talk in tongues and do a reverse spider walk across the stage during Tubular Bells?

I don’t recall. But she did do a Pazuzu dance for “Rhiannon” a couple of times, until the local authorities shut it down.

So we have the intro audio in this new release, "Mirage Tour '82 (Live)", at the beginning of Second Hand News. Who could it be?

Super cool fact, and good thread.

Yes, I think JC was a central drug guy. Ther is that video in the Rumours backstage where I believe he shovels some out (off camera, of course) for SN, and she comes up hard and fast after railing it.

A lot of Tubular Bells sounds like LB, in terms of the music-box sound. Sounds specifically like the You And I's, in this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN6jIvKiYOs

Courage did the intro every year except for 1982 — that was mystery guy (Chris Nicks? Dennis Dunstan? Ray Lindsey? Jeff Buckingham?).

My $ is on Dunstan. But Ray Lindsey did come out on stage during GYOW on that tour (and others) so maybe him?

If Ray has an Instagram or FB account, somebody should ask him on his timeline! (Maybe I will.)

He has a fb, but won't accept me, even though I've got quite a few friends in common.

Is this John too? I think so cause it doesn't sound like Lindsey. In this case he introduced Rhiannon, the fifth song in the setlist.

McVie? I was wondering if it was Courage, though if that were the case, he would have had to be on stage during the concert, which I found strange.

I didn't remember John introducing a song. I remember Lindsey introducing Stevie Songs, Christine introducing a song of her, but the only line John said on stage that comes to mind right now is If my mama could see me now (a line he repeated each time in the 1997 shows). But those of you who have been to more concerts may remember others.

definitely John McVie. He used to talk a little back in the day onstage a little... he'd do introductions at the end, or say a name after a song.

Once Stevie was in the band, they didn't need anyone else to go on and on and on and on. :p

the sad thing is, for many years she DIDN'T actually talk that much onstage at all.....During/after Tusk Lindsey would, and the irony is that she would stand off to the side and visibly cringe while he would blather on about cycles and all that....

It wasn't until after her solo career that she really started talking more and honestly it wasn't until after The Dance and SYW and that period of time where something triggered and she would.not.stop.talking to the point that it felt like more talking than singing.

I know. And I know several people like that. They're called conversational narcissists. They go on and on, and usually won't let anyone else get a word in.

Lindsey was talking talk about cycles and such all the way back in 1979?

I had thought he didn't start that psychobabble until 1997.

I don't know if he literally said the actual word "cycles" then, but he was saying similar sorts of stuff.......:wavey:

Saying he was blathering about cycles is shorthand for saying he was using Lindsey-speak.

He mentioned "cycles" while introducing Big Love in The Dance show.

He also explained how they were recording Bleed To Love Her, and realized it was an "organic thing". But in the tour concerts he replaced "organic" with another word, which I can't remember. But I do remember we discussed here in The Ledge the reason why he no longer used the word organic. Does anyone remember what that new word was?

we were talking about his stage patter going back to the Tusk days.

Not sure he ever said cycles then....but whatever words he used in those day he definitely talked about the same sorts of TOPICS that he does now.

YES. Correct me if I am wrong but on the 1980 Live album at the very end of Don't Let Me Down Again you can hear John McVie say "Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham" at the fade out. The song was recorded on the 1975 tour even though it was on the 1980s album.

Yes, and he even talks before or after Rhiannon (I think) for certain shows in 1975. And very funnily screams "THANK YOU" at the end.

Christine has the best "THANK YOUUUUU" however.

Her best line was after songbird wishing everyone to be careful driving home. I have a faint memory of her saying it during her 1984 solo tour. But she never said it since.

My favorite is New... New York God bless you from 1997. Not only because I was there :) but also because she sounded very emotional, it even seemed like she was holding back a tear after the first "New York". Or I want to think of it that way.

Yes, after NY on thanksgiving, they played in Atlantic City on nov 29, and the last one was MD on nov 30. I'd like to see the last minutes of that last show.
