No, we can't.
And I can't find where was it said in the question that the list would be "a must". It just says "you can only take 12 with you".. So today I'm thinking in a list of 12 to listen on my next trip.
In the future I could choose Blue Letter or Love Minus Zero, who knows. ;)

Now you’re just trying to troll me! You know my top 12 Fleetwood Mac songs would HAVE to include Stand Back, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, and When I See You Again (the Whassa Matter Baby Huh-Uh Ooh-Ooh Megamix)!

Any 12 songs of "the band." I interpret that as meaning Fleetwood Mac. We should have a separate list for solo bands. Stevie has great Mac songs and solo songs but I kept solo careers separate.

You have a point. But since BLY allowed us to choose any version of the band, choosing the Fleetwood Mac: Live in Boston version prevents me from putting this Stand Back version on a Stevie solo list. What can I do!!!
Though... I must admit the reason to include it was Taku Hirano.

There are many flubs during that performance. They all get lost during the Chain in breakdown before the guitar solo. It takes a little time but they all find each other and get the groove back. Stevie botches the lyrics to Dreams and seems to acknowledge it by her facial reactions. They were the last act on stage that day and partied hard all day. According to Mick's book they flew in from helicopter and it was the last time Mick saw Robin.
I dont think the sound issues were exclusive to Fleetwood Mac. Motley Crue sounds even worse. I dont know if it was the mixing there or the transfer from tape to youtube. But its all messed up. Regardless, its rock and roll and the way its supposed to be. No pre-recorded tracks. No professional background singers. No monitors to show you the lyrics. I love those imperfect details. This is why while I loved Lindsey's return for the Dance, the Dance was a disappointment. Live music in the late 90s was bombarded with technology getting the perfect sound. I wanted and much preferred the 70s and 80s arena rock.

The clips that were finally released in the past couple of years really show just how coked up/drunk they were. I can't imagine how things would have went if they had a reason to tour between 83-85.

Sadly, I think a chunk of the audience loves those long long long rambling speeches. I can’t tolerate them.

The problem is- I'll bet the old loony toon could pass a lie detector test. She's so ~out there~ that she just spews whatever crap crosses her tiny brain. I'm sure she believes her own lies.

My friend, in Palm Springs, loves Goat (the most out of the 5). He's more of a casual fan. His one complaint is that she talks too much!
Maybe it's just her diehard worshippers that like the bloviating and her public admiration of herself.
I can even see them making excuses for her tone deaf Maui post.
Well, those fires ruined her niece's vacation!! Of course she should say something!!

I can only imagine how the four others felt about them during the 2016 tour. Lindsey had to be fuming. Christine must have been flabbergasted.
I'll bet by the 2018 tour, Fleetwood and the McVies were like: "well, it's a paycheck."

It’s extremely difficult but at the last minute, you can only take 12 with you…
This was quick gut-instinct, but I'm sure this list would change repeatedly
The Chain (The Dance)
Silver Springs (The Dance)
I'm So Afraid (The Dance)
Little Lies
Sara (1980 live)
Say You Love Me
Go Your Own Way
You Make Loving Fun
Hold Me
Dreams
Isn't it Midnight
Gypsy (longer version from the Mirage remaster)

Timeout for Old Memories:
When Stevie played the Forum in October 1983, she was (natch) as high as a kite all evening long — was totally on point with her singing but could not stop chattering between songs and even over the intros to songs. It was like watching someone with hypomania.
Before “If Anyone Falls,” Lori Perry actually (kind of teasingly) said, “All RIGHT. Shut up!” It was funny and everyone was having a good time, but both the fans and the band were getting antsy with her nonstop, very rapid chatter. I found it invigorating, despite the airheaded things she was saying.
I grabbed my old audio of it and uploaded here (http://sndup.net/mgzx). Sorry for the awful quality.

Lol the band just starting the song while she was about to restart rambling is priceless. Like the music playing at the Academy Awards during a long speech 🤣

I try to remember these people are old now but this is what lacks in live performances today. Not just Stevie, and not just the old farts either…so much is preprogrammed and over rehearsed that you miss all of the spontaneity that used to slip into live performances. Stevie’s randomly odd vocal inflections, wails, and woahs used to add a lot to the performance. Today you’d be lucky to get a random “well”

When you start playing with tracks, SPONTANEITY IS OVER. You can't really improvise, or let the song breathe... tracks were the end of live bands being great.
But hey, we kinda sound like the record now!

Wow that audio is really good!
I would love to talk to her band off the record and the challenges they faced with her behavior during that tour. In Largo during If Anyone Falls she tells the crowd "they just play until I start" meaning she is not going to start singing when she's supposed to start singing.
In Cuyahoga Falls, OH during How Still My Love right before the second verse she goes and into the audience for a hat that she puts on her head. Her band actually slows the beat a tad so she can make it back to the microphone on time to start the second verse.
They were improvising every night it seems.

Especially as a band. Because now you're just memorizing instead of playing off someone else. (who's also memorizing in today's world).
The amounts of improv that Mick, Lindsey, and Christine, (and even John sometimes) played back in the day make those performances priceless.
How the hell do you expect to stay fresh?

The clips that were finally released in the past couple of years really show just how coked up/drunk they were. I can't imagine how things would have went if they had a reason to tour between 83-85.
Yes. While live and not lip synced like Tango there was still major editing on the Mirage shows. Sisters is spliced together near the end. Stevie almost gets to the microphone late on Gypsy during recording. But its real, not staged and used primitive editing effects.
The US Festival was really sloppy for a reason.
Funny because on the clip that David posted Stevie is still yacking what she forgets to get running back to her "tent." She went on about this during the US Festival in 1983. Its like almost unconsciously she knows she cant control her urge for another bump and makes up stories to tell the audience over and over. First it was a brush and then she forgot something else.
On the rock album countdown (in the early 80s on radio) she was asked why she spends so much time back stage at Fleetwood Mac shows. She said she was breathing steam for her voice.

I see your point. I do like when artists say some few words, it feels they want to connect with the people or at least enjoy performing. Donna Summer used to do that, and she was very charismatic. Roger Waters too, though sometimes he was too political for my taste. But Cher didn't say a word beyond Thank you when I saw her. It felt too cold.
2014 was the last time I saw Fleetwood Mac, and though I liked the intro words Stevie said before Gypsy, at the end of the show she make a loooong speech that frankly I didn't even hear, I was more interested in leaving quickly to avoid traffic as much as possible. Besides audio wasn't that good so I barely understand half of the words she said. It was good at first but then I wanted to tell her Get a life.

I'm sure it wasn't like this every night, but there must have been nights where Chris and John were sitting on that amp together and one of them mutters to the other "oh jfc, here we go again"
We'll never know, but lordy there must have been some funny exchanges between those two on that amp.

I'm with you here. When it's just a run through the setlist with no audience interaction, it seems cold and disconnected. When the gap in music goes on for too long, however, the result ends up being the same. Gypsy is a 4-minute song, it doesn't need a 4-minute introduction. It's different if it was in a small theater and more of an intimate Storytellers type show. In an arena or stadium, at some point, it's just like, shut up and sing the damn song already.

I wholeheartedly believe this. Chris was probably like "how the hell long has this crap been going on?" and John was just like "meh..Chris, you know how much we're taking home tonight?"

I agree; I love when the artist communicates!!
We haven't played anything from Tusk yet so, ... try some out tonight for you, actually this is the first track on side one, and it's called Over and Over...
vs.
When I wrote this song, it was 1978 and Schhhevie was standing next to me. Well her presence made me automatically more talented by osmosis. Her chiffon happened to brush against me and I instantly knew how to play keyboards and sing better... Then in 1980..... (4 more minutes) ... and it's called Over and Over featuring Stevie on tamborine...

Her band intro (http://sndup.net/djd6) from that night was surprisingly coherent.
Toward the end of the evening, she let loose with my favorite “How Still My Love (http://sndup.net/zf7k)” I can ever remember hearing, with Waddy adding jagged guitar and getting it cooked.
Sorry again about the far-from-great audio, but here’s a little factoid about the person holding the recording device — it was Toni Graphia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toni_Graphia), who became the executive producer of Outlander on cable. She is a huge Stevie Nicks fan. I told her to CHECK THE BATTERIES before the concert started, and she did not — so the batteries were actually dying while we were recording. After the concert, Hollywood partied with the rock and roll elite at the underground Supper Club at the Forum. In those days, Stan Lynch and Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench partied plenty with the Nicks circus, so don’t let them pretend otherwise.

Those are great quality David. She stayed at the mic the entire How Still My Love cackling like a wounded lamb. Usually on the tour she was so high she preferred to dance the last minutes of How Still My Love. She had the craziest dances. In Pittsburgh she made the ok sign with each hand and put them reverse over her eyes. But this night she wailed and cackled to the end.
My favorite Wild Heart clip. Cleveland OH, July 1983. Her dance at the end of How Still My Love is so awesome clapping off beat and high as a kite. Running in place at the mic.

I miss the days of fun Stevie!
They were definitely fun and wild days back then. There used to be an old thread of all the crazy stuff she did or said on the Wild Heart tour. I noticed that Stevie would introduce her band at different times in the set over the Wild Heart tour. I once read that it was fairly common for her to miss a bandmember during introductions. I would love to talk to a former bandmate about how unexpected she would be. For example I was listening to the Pittsburgh show the other night and when she goes to introduce her bass player Wizard, he's not on stage. She has to bypass him and finally introduces him at the end. I suppose Wizard needed a bump or took an unexpected bathroom break ;) However nothing beats her selling Sharon at the US Festival. "She can be yours for $25,000." WTF?
In 1983 my local paper had a write up review of the Wild Heart show. Its said that Stevie relied too much on her sex appeal to carry the show and that her band seemed as confused as she was and the concert was like a "What ever happened to Stevie game show" since she was backstage so much. I thought that review was harsh. But looking back it makes sense. Stevie had incredible talent and she was beautiful so she could get away with that strange behavior on stage. Imagine a 300 pound woman acting the same way. She would be laughed off the stage with speaking in tongues because she is trying to convey 4 thoughts at once. But the magical fairy tale world Stevie created allowed her to escape that harsh criticism. It was all part of the fairy tale persona she created. She was beautiful and hot so it was her being her. She still could sing. By the time her next solo tour rolled along 3 years later the wheels started coming off. Her voice was gone, she gained weight and was losing control completely.
