I just finished the Rarities disc of the box set on headphones…Amazing!

Yes! And Rock A Little too sounds amazing with some long time lacking real bass. :D
Overall, I'm not disappointed with the sound and remastering. It's decent, at least on my system it is blowing me away.:]:]

Im most impressed with how amazing STREET ANGEL sounds as an album. It's clean, lean, spacious and strong. The remastering and mixing makes even the dud-iest of songs sound better. Violet and Blue and Sometimes Its a Bitch also sound phenomenal.

I totally agree. I’m currently listening to TISL. It also sounds very crisp. TOSOTM and RAL are great also. I’m glad I purchased it. I can give my daughters my original cds. They also love Stevie.

Ok now you guys made me curious. I used to listen to Escape From Berlin all the time and it was a headphone rush then. Anything new to hear?
I cant imagine me buying more Stevie solo stuff. I would probably buy a RAL outtake CD if it contained Mirror Mirror and Running through the Garden. I dont love the other stuff as much to buy it for the third time.

Sorry but let me be the first to express disappointment in this release, specifically with the mastering and the packaging. I compared the original Rock a Little CD with the remaster, and the original blows the remaster out of the water. The remaster is actually a bit quieter and lacks punch and dynamics that the original CD had. TOSOTM sounds almost exactly the same as the original release, and you can barely tell a difference at all.
The presentation of the box set is nice, but the actual CD packaging is some of the worst I have ever seen in a box set. First the cover of each CD is a paper thin piece of cardboard that can tear up with the slightest bit of mishandling by the consumer. While they did a nice job of replicating the vinyl artwork and layout, you have to have a magnifying glass to even read any of what's printed in the liner notes. Also, there is absolutely no indication that any of the albums were remastered at all, as it still lists the original mastering credits in the liner notes and no mention of any reissue credits. Rock a Little has actually had the mastering note removed for some reason.
Overall it's a cheap way to reissue her catalog, and it's a disappointment that Rock a Little through 24K did not get the proper treatment like Bella Donna and Wild Heart did. It would've been nice to get demos and outtakes from those albums. Sorry to be negative, but I can't be the only one that feels a bit let down here...

Other than the fact three of these have been out of print for a long time it’s not worth the price. Even the extras are all available so where on CD. There’s no reason to buy this set. RAL and OSOTM and maybe even SA should have got the same treatment as BD and WH. These is so much more in those years that those could have been released first THEN do a box set. OR better yet include them here and then release the individual albums next year or for Record store day.

Since Stevie no longer owns the rights could it be the songs or demos that were not professionally released are not in the owner's possession? I just cant think of a reason why someone would go to the bother re-releases without some extras like they did for Wild Heart and Bella Donna.
Or maybe Stevie really does not like her mid to late 80s work and does not want anything getting out there? Or does someone think little effort = big profit and there will be something later? All of her concert tours were professionally recorded. Why not release a concert like they did for Bella Donna?

Rhino is usually excellent at unearthing old thing and reissuing things that have value added and interest. This is just a regurgitation.

This is how I think about it. She has said that 1986-1994 are her lost years - the years that Klonopin stole. And while RAL predates that period (barely), she probably thinks of it as the beginning of the end. I think she simply does not want to revisit that time period and listen to (and approve) outtakes — sad as that is for us fans, since I am sure there are some gems to be unearthed.
I am happy to have a few of these songs available to stream for the first time, eg One More Big Time and Real Tears. Otherwise agree with others, this is not much to get excited about.

I can’t either. I spot checked some albums, including OSOTM, and heard no improvement. A remaster doesn’t jump out the way a remix can, but the mix flaws (like on “Escape from Berlin”) should at least get a little work on the levels to downplay them. But everything sounds like the earlier CDs.

This is an off-topic question, but I didn't want to create a new thread for this.
Has anyone seen Stevie in concert this year?
Does Stevie have an opening act on her current tour. I am attending the show on August 12 in Houston and the showtime is listed as 7pm (Doors at 6).
That seems unusually early for Stevie to begin. Does she go on at 7pm sharp?

I went to the Toronto show in June. Her opening act (Tenille Townes) started at 7.
But I think Townes (who is Canadian) only did the Toronto show. Stevie may have different (local?) opening acts at each stop.

I think the newly remastered albums (RAL, TOSOTM, SA, TISL) absolutely sound better. It’s typical of albums remastered in the last ten years to be quieter (the 90s gave rise to what are called “The Sound Wars”). I think “Whole Lotta Trouble” is one of the songs that has one the most notably different mixes: the slide guitars are more in the background and the song is also 28 seconds longer!
I do dislike the tiny font in all the sleeves/booklets and there’s not really info about who did the remastering across the board? It just has compilation production / supervisory credits.

That's most likely because you were listening to their MP3 versions. This came with the order: The CD you pre-ordered will be arriving shortly. We thought you'd like to know that the CD is AutoRip eligible. This means that the MP3 version of the album is now available for you to play or download from your Amazon Music Library for FREE.
P.S. so much for the CD arriving shortly. They haven't even shipped the damn thing yet!

Thanks for your review. That's the information I was looking for. I hate it when they master CDs so loud they sound distorted, which is how it been done for a while. In the early days CDs were mastered with really low volume and then it went to way too loud. That's one of the things that I really like about Rhino remasters is that the audio levels are correct. They sound more warm and I hear a lot more detail in the recording.

I miss the old days when you can run down to the local record store and buy a new release on the morning it was actually released. I would get so excited and be ready to run down to the store at opening. I still remember doing this for many of FM albums, especially TUSK. There was so much hype about it's release after Rumours.
Some online vendors will try to have new releases to you on release date but not Amazon. Several times I preordered FM releases only to have Amazon tell me it's on backorder before it's even released. Even worse, I can't even count how many times my shipments are damaged from being shipped in a flimsy envelope. One time Amazon even shipped a vinyl record that someone bought me in an envelope with no other packing.
I have several cool local record stores in my area but they don't really order CDs anymore when they can make so much more profits on a $30+ vinyl record.

I miss the days of going to the record store and buying a new or fresh album or even an older one. The Rumours insert could keep you busy for hours looking at all the photos and reading the lyrics and the thank you notes.
I miss that new vinyl smell too. Although it would really suck if your new album had a scratch. I remember my Mirage album had a few tiny scratches that made a few songs skip a few places. I was too young to drive so it would be a hassle to find a ride back to the mall for an exchange. You dealt with it sometimes applying pressure to the needle to work out the skip.
I still do not buy any digital music. I still listen to CDs. I have a great little Bose system that works fine.

That could be, Viv. My friend Alex was listening to the CDs themselves on his Sonos Arc and said they sounded much better than the original CDs. I also notice that the BD and WH mixes are the recent deluxe mixes, which were good.

I'll let you know, if the package arrives sometime in 2023. I just contacted Amazon because it hasn't even been shipped yet. My condo has paper thin walls as do many apartments in this world and I don't like to disturb the neighbors on either side of me with music. I'm not a big headphone or ear bud fan either. One of my neighbors was gone for 2 weeks, came back for one overnight and vanished again. All that time I could have been blasting my music!!

2,11 & 18 have already been played to death and I never want to hear any of those on a concert stage ever again!! You know it's funny how Stevie will tell a reporter that she can't do non hits on stage. Has Anyone was a single and it bombed yet she has performed that to death for a thousand years. Outside the Rain was never a hit song and it sounded good on the Bella Donna tour, but now enough is enough!! If Anyone Falls is a good album track but it's boring to me onstage. Bring back Nightbird and have Marilyn & Sharon share the vocals center stage. Wild Heart & Bella Donna could be swiped out with Trouble in Shangri La & Talk To Me.

I forgot Free Fallin and For What It’s Worth are on the box set too so they could replace Wild Heart and Bella Donna. Just goes to show you how she feels about Show Them the Way. Three years since it’s release it hasn’t been played live and it’s not on a vinyl or cd pressing.
I don’t think she’ll sing Talk To Me again because she’s probably upset that her biggest hit from Rock a Little was a song given to her by someone who nobody has heard of in a sports arena. Stop Draggin’ was given to her by a legend.

The most obvious to me is After The Glitter Fades. It was the 4th single off her best solo album. It worked really well in her acoustic 1998 Enchanted set. Its also nearing the end of her career which fits the song even more.
We need to remember that she is older and she is not going to do anything daring. Not that when she was younger she did anything daring either.

Ann Wilson and Bonnie Raitt go out and do setlists that challenge their audience. But Stevie is there to give the people what they want. Wild Heart is a standard now because people saw the YouTube video of her singing to Can’t Go Back. Bella Donna was the title track of her #1 album.

After the TISL Tour, I remember being so let down with her setlists which were almost the same each year and full of cover songs. When In Your Dreams came around everything changed, though I think she could have been more creative with her set on the 2012 leg. To me, the oldies act started with the 24 Karat Gold Tour where she only played 3 songs from the album and honestly, she should’ve had another Songs From the Vault before that tour started considering she finished the FM Tour in November 2015 and didn’t start the tour until October 2016.

Much like many of her fans, she's a numbers gal... I think Irving got in her hear. And I am devastated that Cher just signed a contract with him which probably means Cher will never do another solo album, but instead an ABBA covers album. I've been waiting 10 years for an album of original album of songs from Cher. Irving is not supportive of artists releasing music.

Look at Billy Joel. Last time he did anything original was 1994. 30 years ago!! He did record 1 cover song for his 1998 Greatest Hits package. Then that was it. He's been Greatest Hits Karaoke performer ever since. Maybe because he got dumped by Christie Brinkley. As he stopped being Creative Stevie started to come back out of obesity/Obscurity.
From 1997 till now she's don't more releases on average than the 17 years before that. Three of those were original albums, most were live concerts and box sets. But there were also one-off soundtrack recording and guest appearances galore!
It is all predictable though. She missed a lot of years 86-97 she could have been productive. Then she squandered the return of her good voice in the 96-2003 era not recording more original material.
Then she transitioned from Fairy Godmother Gypsy into Bitter Miss Havashim Crone over the 2013-2023 time frame. It's kind of pathetic.

Her "I don’t care if anybody buys my album, I’m doing it for me” was basically said ONCE (maybe a few times during the press for the album) after a decade of saying she didn't have any interest in making a record. I remember reading that line and thinking "well somebody must have gotten her ear on a really good day" and I never assumed for a minute it would mean a new burst of creativity. She's always wanted some sort of Cher-like comeback, but doesn't have the material, producers, and ability to put her ego aside to ever make it happen. Then she gets mad when her album performs about as well as a new album from her demographic does and goes back to her "nobody buys albums" slump.
Anyone who can remember the hype about the Las Vegas shows being unlike ANYTHING she's ever done before, both in terms of set list and stage production...we all learned that she lives in a different version of reality than the rest of us.
IMO, the stale sets go all the way back to 2005-2008. Yes, new songs came back into the set after a long time (If Anyone Falls etc) but then they never left, then came the Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt, and Led Zep covers.

Her pandemic release of Show Them the Way bombed so I think that made her sad. She could have had an album ready to tour this year.
And just to please the Lindseyhaters, I don’t know what’s taking him so long to announce an album.

He's already mentioned that he's working on a new album. There will be a more formal announcement when it's ready for release.

He's already mentioned that he's working on a new album. There will be a more formal announcement when it's ready for release. He mentioned it at his London show in 2022. I think the drummer Michael Urbano said Lindsey had played him new music in early 2022.
I'd like new Lindsey music this year. September 17 will be 2 years since "Lindsey Buckingham". Maybe Stevie will get an album out before him:lol:

Some of the remasters are quieter. But I think that needed to be done to make them sound more dynamic and less mushy, which happens when the sound levels are too loud and clipped. I think they did a great job with Street Angel and TISL, which are now great for headphone listening.

I finally got my Amazon delivery last week and have already listened to every CD. After all these years of complaining that Stevie hasn't released enough music in her career I realized that I am wrong. There is a lot of songs here. It's very nice to own her catalog and have it all in one box because I gave away most of her CD's to a friend a long time ago. Funny thing is I cannot tell which songs have been remastered and that is because I haven't heard so many of these songs in such a long time so they all sound fresh to me. There was only one song where I was like, "WTF is this?" That turned out to be God's Garden. I still like the songs I always liked, loved most of the ones I always loved and despised the same ones I always hated. Two of the songs I never really cared for, I Will Run To You and Two Kinds of Love actually sound good to me now. I've yet to listen to any of this thru headphones. Perhaps I will hear some remixes then.

Did anyone go for the vinyl set?
It's amazing.
Rock A Little and OSOTM have been out of print for decades on vinyl. OSOTM had a very limited run anyway as it was released at the height of the CD age. And of course Street Angel, TISL and IYD never had vinyl releases. Neither did the material recorded for her first hits package (Timespace) or most of the rarities in this set (though some have appeared in various forms over the years, RSD, soundtracks, etc.).
All that said...
Street Angel is a revelation on vinyl. Some of the songs are still cringe ("forgotten chimpanzees" are still "forgotten chimpanzees," no matter the format), but the great songs on the album are GREATER on vinyl with this remaster. The first disc of the 2-LP Street Angel set is particularly good... "Blue Denim," "Greta," "Listen to the Rain"... they all sound spacious, punchy and clean.
TISL has some issues with mastering on vinyl, especially the stuff Sheryl worked on. The analog warmth and increased dynamic range really enhance deep bass, and "Candlebright" gets a but boom-y as a result. There's also some sibilance on "Sorcerer." But the rest of the record shines. "Too Far From Texas" is especially fun; sounds like dropping the needle on an 80s country hit.
In Your Dreams is gorgeous. Dave Stewart is a fine arranger and this album is also engineered brilliantly. Definitely hearing some things in the space that I've never heard before; the violin on "Moonlight" always sounded synth-y to me on compressed digital files, but the LP really opens it up. If you're inclined to purchase and wondering about which record makes it worth it, it's In Your Dreams.
The Rarities LP set is poorly packaged here, unfortunately... Three heavy LPs stuffed into one non-gatefold sleeve. But the LPs themselves sound terrific. Much like a "hits" package, the mastering can be inconsistent, with songs from different engineers with wildly varying instrumentation and styles, but what it lacks in coherence it makes up for in the pleasure of hearing some of these recordings that were originally analog for the first time on vinyl, or the first time in a long time ("Battle of the Dragon" and "Reconsider Me" really benefit sonically).
I jumped on the latter releases and haven't listened to Rock A Little and OSOTM from this vinyl set yet. Bella Donna and Wild Heart are the same remasters already released on LP, and they're both great if you don't already have them. Even if you do, vinyl junkies will want these later releases.
