Has Waddy decided Dreams doesn't need a lead guitar part anymore? You can barely hear Carlos playing the more delicate parts.

Carlos does sound low, but his solo was high.

What is really opening my eyes is that "you know what you LOSSSST"

The more I listen to these live videos from the tour on YouTube, the more I'm convinced that 50% of what I'm hearing is pre-recorded tracks. Obviously, Stevie's vocals are 100% live, but it's like karaoke with the musicians adding some light subtle innuendos on top of the karaoke tracks. The background vocals all seem pre-recorded, as they are on karaoke tracks.

It’s like the 2010 Tour; live debut of a song, a few covers, and then stuff that the big fans have seen plenty of times live. What’s unfortunate is the set list is so similar to last year’s?

she doesn't hit the high note on "it's only RIIIGHT" and then she realllllly gets pitchy on "that you should play it the way you feel it"

I've also noticed on this tour she has the sound guy applying a lot of reverb effects to her vocals on specific songs at a specific time.

Oh that line was a bit rough. Her phrasing on Dreams is really weird here. The whole song really. She’s going for it in weird places and others where I expect it she’s staying low. I don’t pay too much attention to Dreams but if this is how she does it today… 👌

Not that Stevie listens to me, but do that damn thing acoustic like the 2001 AHI Gypsy. Couple of guitars and a couple of singers. AND SPEED IT UP.

She should listen to you David - that AHI Gypsy was the best thing she has done in years and it’s a shame the only video of it looks like it was recorded during the Blitz.

Absolutely! The AHI style Gypsy would be fresh again and perhaps better fit her current voice.

Most likely she'll cut another song from the set and cut another verse out of Edge of 17, so it clocks in at 2:50. She'll add the full 15 minute story before Gypsy.

I’m really surprised the Wild Heart/Bella Donna mashup continued past the 2016 Tour. That has become, for the Cher fans here, the Half Breed/Gypsys, Tramps, and Thieves/Dark Lady medley that Cher has been doing for decades.

I believe she’ll do 16 songs Friday including Sara and that will be the draw for fans to see her with Billy, but it won’t be in her solo shows.

This whole tour is a head scratcher. She does great vocally in some areas and then barely attempts other areas.

I can see that, but I think she's also trying to find places to put some lower notes in places where she usually goes high because she's trying to not overdo it. I mean, she's getting older I guess she has to be more protective about stuff like that?

Have you ever noticed sometimes when she tries new notes it's like her rhythm is kinda off and it sounds shaky like she's not feeling confident about how she sung a particular line. I think she's trying but she hasn't like solidified it into a place that sounds okay and then becomes a part of her routine. I think when you hear notes go kinda warbly like that, it's just her getting nervous or having some kind of weird tick about it.

She did mention something during the pandemic of her Epstein Barr virus making a resurface which can make you tired and all that, coupled with her age I think she's looking a little less lackluster vocal performance wise than she has since 2019. Maybe the pandemic era of not singing all that much for 2-3 years weakened her ability so belt out like she used to.

There's a lot of things at play here, and to me it seems like she's kinda fighting to get that energy back, but in some instances I think she's just kinda thinking it is what it is until she can't sing anymore.

Case and point, when she did the Jazz Fest touring again, she did not sound that good on that show. You could tell her breath was like short or something.

Thank you. I thought it was a fair set list to ticket buyers.
Drop in a Rock a Little song that’s not Sing for the Things and which people may know because it was on Red Rocks, and I have to face it that there is no chance she’ll ever sing I Can’t Wait live again.
Give Bella Donna love by doing more than just 3 minutes of the title song. And give the crowd a more recent rocker rather than FFG, but also because I’ve heard FFG live about 30 times LOL
Now if I didn’t gaf about the patrons who are just coming to hear radio songs, I’d throw in Angel after Ghosts Are Gone as an epic entry into another ghost through the fog song and then have her do Leather and Lace to throw the crowd a bone, and follow that with Think About It

In Philadelphia last night Stevie sang I Sing For the Things but she didn't sing Sara; I don't get that. Wouldn't 60,000 people rather hear Sara than a ballad?

Kudos to her for choosing the obscure over the hit song. Maybe Sara was too long to do...I think this tour's versions were 8 minutes.

I wish she'd drop the covers and do her own great songs like Nothing Ever Changes, Blue Lamp, Nightbird, Juliet, or Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily)

Yeah it makes no sense especially for a mixed crowd in a stadium. Sara would make more sense. I don’t understand I Sing for the Things’ place in the set. The second last song in the main set is a strange place for an obscure tune. But she’s weird so whatever.

Right after Gold Dust Woman I think too which I think she wants to be the highlight of the show.

Jmn, do you think Sara has any chance of coming back into the set? Seems unlikely to me since she hasn’t done it for 3 shows but I guess we’ll know next week in Toronto.

One day I hope she’ll do the show she promised where she touches every album

To me it would make total sense to put an extremely well known and popular song like Sara into the setlist when you’re playing in a show as a co head liner with Billy Joel and the audience isn’t all yours. That she has dropped it would make me think it’s unlikely to return. Nobody in the FM universe is known for having too much evolution in their sets once they’re established during a tour.

True, and when Stevie dropped Annabel Lee on 24KG, it didn’t return. IIRC Bombay was dropped and didn’t return on TISL. Maybe she’ll drop Sing for the Things and do Sara which will be the surprise of the shows next week:lol:

Give me Rick or Jerry Marotta. Rick was probably the only highlight of the RAL tour. His brother Jerry pumped such life into many songs on OSOTM: Long Way To Go, Ghosts, Oooh My Love, Fire Burning, and Juliet. Not a coincidence those are the better songs on the album without a drum machine. Gosh they are so freaking good.

Scottie Crago was good too. I LOVED her Timespace touring band. OMG that was her best band ever. Les on guitar and an electric guitar Landslide were really cool. They made Scottie do a drum solo. I always hated those drum solos into Stand Back. Gosh remember the explosions they pumped into the beginning of Edge of 17. Just wow.

IMO, he has no clue how to play the groove that Stand Back requires. He goes cymbal. SPAT. cymbal. SPAT. Where Jimmy really, I hear, got the dance beat right on it that you could clap to.

Here are two Stand Backs. One from this year (first) and one from 2012 (where we also see Stevie wearing the original cape. Alas, 2023 doesn't mark 40 years since she's worn it!)

Its all style. The one you dont like is playing more traditional to the song's roots. It was a drum machine. Its also the more prevalent way its always been played. I also believe a phone camera is not picking up all the sound which is misleading.

Even Russ and Jerry play it that way

I disagree with you that Drew Hester plays it like Russ Kunkel. I hear kick drum with the cymbal when Russ plays it. I think Jimmy played it like Russ. Drew does cymbal then snare I believe.

Also, I don't think the album version has cymbal in the opening.

Yes and Marotta was good too. There is something about the Marottas that lures me in. The issue is taking a disco swish drum machine and making a drummer create his own version.

First of all you should know by now that anything she says at this point should be taken with a grain of salt and even that’s a stretch. LOLOL…

She’s done Fleetwood Mac material in her solo sets for decades. It’s just another dramatized/manufactured Stevie vs Fleetwood Mac for the sake of drama. Mick just said the band is most likely done. Nobody gives a darn about her doing Sara in her set.

Christine’s dead, John sold off all his equipment…

It’s Fleetwood Mac, so never say never, but it’s safe to say it’s over.

As for Stevie singing “Sara” in her solo concerts, John and Lindsey couldn’t care less, and Neil and Mike even less so. Mick might have an issue, but he’s grieving losing Christine and, subsequently, Fleetwood Mac, so that’s the least of his problems.

I think Al is right that it was Stevie’s self-imposed rule that Sara, Gypsy, and Beautiful Child couldn’t be performed outside of a FM concert. In 2007, she said she wanted to do Silver Springs on tour; I really doubt Lindsey called her and said don’t play it in your set.

I do think with Irving Azoff as Stevie and FM’s consultant, there will be some performances as Fleetwood Mac “Honoring the Legacy of Christine McVie ”in the future. And I’d predict Sheryl Crow will be a part of them.
I would only go if Billy, Rick, and Lindsey were a part of them. Dave Walker and Jeremy could be too but the 3 I first mentioned would have to be there for me. Just my opinion.

It really makes me wonder what really happened when it comes to a lot of these Stevie vs Fleetwood Mac stories that she's talked about for decades.

She likes to claim that she sacrificed a lot of her solo career for carving out time for Fleetwood Mac (it's like the army, after all). I'd argue that drugs and rehab took more time away from her solo career than anything.

Did a copy of Bella Donna really get tossed to the corner of the Studio as a slight to her or did somebody simply have to move it to make room for the english muffin pizzas and Courvoisier® at 2AM?

Christine's recent comments about there not being as much fighting as people like to think/write about comes to mind. I was just reading Ken's book about Tusk and there's this whole dramatic section about Sara and how hard Stevie would have to fight to have the band work on the song, all of this big build up to playing Lindsey the demo and selling him on the song, what a herculean task it was going to be to get Lindsey on board etc. They play it for him and he instantly said "this is a great song, let's do it"

SA isn't a song most of us would have chosen but at least she's doing one of her own obscure songs over a cover from someone else we cannot stand to hear. I still wish she'd sing songs of hers that have never been performed onstage before. There are so many she could choose from. Personally I don't need to hear Sara at a SN concert because it sounds better with FM to me. I wish she'd not do any FM songs on her solo tours and vice versa. Plus that would make her more inclined to WANT to do more FM tours, so she could actually sing those songs onstage with a better group of musicians.

And, not that he couldn’t get new stuff, but John McVie selling all of his gear should be the most telling sign the band is done.

Mick won’t do Fleetwood Mac without John. He’d do Fleetwood Nicks, Buckingham Fleetwood, or some variation of the Mick Fleetwood Band/The Zoo, but not Fleetwood Mac. That’s a line he won’t cross.

Didn’t he almost cross that line when John had cancer? I don’t remember the specifics but I feel like that was part of LB’s lawsuit - something about LB pushing against a plan to carry on without John if necessary (albeit temporarily).

A Fleetwood Mac without any Mac is not a Fleetwood Mac I’d have any interest in. Once John wasn’t part of that Peter tribute concert, I had a feeling we’d seen the last of him on a stage.

They considered it and might have done it if not for the fact Christine was clearly rejoining. Otherwise, that’s a lot of money being left on the table.

I agree. Not interested in Fleetwood Mac without a McVie, and John was more done than Christine a year ago.

Yet it almost happened in Australia.

Yes. Lindsey wouldn't let that happen. He has loyalty.

The majority of existing Ledgie board members would agree with you but the Stevie fans and the casual FM fans would pack those arenas.

People said when Lindsey didn’t want Sheryl Crow in FM in 2009 it was because he didn’t want to lose any of his cut or he didn’t want to share Stevie. But I think it was out of respect to Christine. If Sheryl was coming in so that they would make a new album, which they would have never done because Stevie wouldn’t make an album with the 2018 lineup, then I would have said let Sheryl in, but hell no to bringing in Sheryl to sing on an oldies tour.

Even with his remarks about Christine cutting off communication with everybody, I still feel he respected her FM legacy in that he wasn’t going to endorse anyone taking her place to sing her classic songs as if they were her own.

Unfortunately, you're PARTIALLY right. Stevie's solo shows haven't been selling great, right? I think Fleetwood Nicks would only sell, EVEN DECENTLY, if Lindsey was brought back. Even then, without John, I don't think they'd be selling out arenas. They're old af now, and sounds like sh*t. They need to call it another lonely day, and hang it up.

But you're right about John... the casual/ Stevie fan doesn't give af about who the bass player is. As long as grandma hands is doing her Edge Walk on her jazzy scooter. Wheeeeeeee! Her joystick is stuck! Wheeeeeee!!!

I always cracked up at his line about Sheryl joining FM. Something like “what songs is she going to sing? Christine McVie songs? She sure isn’t going to be singing Sheryl Crow songs!” I don’t think Lindsey has ever been big on doing other people’s songs - I know he had no choice early on but other than Oh Well, he pretty much got his way. I don’t think it’s just a Lindsey thing either - he wouldn’t want to see Sheryl joining to do her own songs or to cover Chris. To him that’s going too far toward a lounge act.

This is why the death of Christine has likely spelled the end of the band. I do not see a Stevie/Mick Fleetwood Mac to be something that would sell well AT ALL. The only way anything could work viably again would be Stevie/Lindsey/Mick. And without John I think that’s a bridge too far at least as Fleetwood Mac. You can’t have Fleetwood Mac without a Mac, regardless of what the chiffon mafia thinks on TikTok!

Maybe doing Say You Love Me in 2009 was his way of conciliating with Stevie?

In other news, Stevie wasn’t chosen for Kennedy Center Honors. Go Dionne!

That would have been temporary so that John could recover from cancer. John would have still been a full member of Fleetwood Mac and would have resumed when he was ready. As I said, Christine was rejoining by that point, so canceling the 2013 dates was no big deal since they were going there sometime in 2015 with Christine.

Taking the Peter Green tribute on the road as Mick Fleetwood's Peter Green Tribute could do really well depending on the lineup he took out with him. I don't think he would have any trouble getting a solid group of well known players to do it.

But yes, I agree that any kind of Fleetwood Mac without John, Lindsey, and Christine probably isn't going to happen.

I think Fleetwood Mac is kaput, Irving Azoff or no Irving Azoff. But Mick will keep playing because he subsists on playing — with Vito, with Steven Tyler, with Jonny Lane, maybe with Jeremy, with all his friends. Stevie will keep playing, too, but as her own brand and star. She’s her own ecosystem, and she’s done with other competing ecosystems.

I wonder though when she decides she wants to perform Silver Springs again, will she be happy with the arrangement her touring band comes up with? Well then again if she's happy with her solo versions of Dreams and Angel, I probably just answered my own question right there.

Yes, I doubt she'll ever do any other Mac songs in her solo setlist. Again, she didn't sing Sara in Chicago tonight.

It's really crazy that she's doing an oldies tour two years in a row with the majority of the set matching each other. Gold Dust Tour/Crystal Visions Tour/The Very Best of Tour all over again!

I meant ones like Sara, Angel, Silver Springs, Seven Wonders, Crystal, I Don't Want To Know, or Sweet Girl.

She has to do Dreams, Gypsy, Landslide, Gold Dust Woman, and Rhiannon, as well as Rock and Roll, Free Fallin', and For What It's Worth because she doesn't have confidence in her songs like I Can't Wait, Rooms On Fire, Talk To Me, Think About It, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Blue Denim.

Plus she could never drop Gold Dust Woman because you await that lovely dance she does from the Live in Boston DVD

I have no issue with FWIW since it was a cowrite with Mike (she wrote lyrics to his track). Rock and Roll however needs to GO. I think she threw that in there for Waddy as that's the type of stuff he loves, but it serves NO PURPOSE in Stevie show. It makes sense for Heart to do it because they have been open forever about how much Led Zeppelin was an influence of theirs, and so it's a sort of homage from Heart to LZ. WTF is Stevie doing it?? It's not part of her influences, no matter how she spins it now. If she wanted to add something new and pay homage to an early influence, she'd have to do like a Joni Mitchell song or something. Or, even an early R&B song that she claims she was singing r&b in the backseat of the car on family trips, freaking her parents out.:shocked:

She hasn’t sung For What It’s Worth from In Your Dreams in 10 years.

Stevie is turning into Johnny Mathis, Pat Benatar, and Barry Manilow just cranking out the past but she doesn’t make her shows a treat for the people who’ve supported her for 40 years.

Every so often, she just drops the faerie fey (playing with those ribbons on the mic stand and giggling) and pushes herself to deliver some old-fashioned rock and roll. She did it with Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away,” too. It gives us a chance to see Stevie let ’er rip. She’s already much too old to do a convincing “What Are You Doing in My Life?” or “Even the Losers,” but she should have covered at least half of Damn the Torpedoes in her earliest solo years.

Actually a circa ‘81-‘83 cover of Refugee would probably be really incredible. By ‘86 it would have devolved into a wailing circus!

I think it's because the entire crowd knows it rather than her enjoyment. She doesn't sing the "Ah-ah-ah...ah-ah" in the song which would sound cool. Almost like her now retired Edge Wail.

I'm sure she'd rather sing her own fast rock song like Blue Lamp or Blue Denim but the crowd wouldn't know them, which sucks because those songs are freaking awesome!

I have a different take. I think she did it when she fell into her fantasy world of being a big rock star. It would have been cool to do 1981-1989. But she had new material then to perform on stage. When her music career dried up and it was only concerts, performing Led Zeppelin made her feel cool and a rock queen. She did it for her not as a tribute to Zeppelin. When Heart did it all through the 80s it was their encore and tribute. It was not about them. She really wanted to be that rock star. If you recall that 1990 interview where she says she still gets knocked out in disbelief when a Fleetwood Mac song gets played between Led Zeppelin and The Who. Most of her crowd tolerates the song but its not their favorite. But its Stevie pretending she is the queen of rock. I bet Waddy talked her into it. He was the one that also twisted her arm into doing Crying In The Night on the 24k Gold Tour (her words from the stage).

Spot on. She does Rock n Roll and Free Falling because they are guaranteed to go over with a big splash with the audience. Big showstoppers and she gets all the applause. The Free Falling thing is really gross at this point, she’s using it as the musical equivalent to a comedian using cheap jokes for easy laughs. She’s only interested in getting the arena rock audience response and her ego cannot handle people going to the bathroom during Blue Denim.

It’s ironic that she’s so quick to teather herself to other artists yet loves to preach that her solo success was built entirely on her own and she didn’t need anyone else’s help. It’s only a matter of time before circle dance and crash make a comeback!
