Early spring dates not ideal for outdoor shows is my guess. But I am surprised as well. Some shed markets aren’t even available until May/June. It made sense to book a tour between BJ dates.

Absolutely not. Look at her current sales at arenas. Some of the worst-selling concerts I’ve seen in a while.
For example, look at Ticketmaster for her upcoming show in Atlanta. Wide swaths of unsold tickets. And it’s even worse than it appears on TM, which seems to be holding back every other row of tickets in many sections, something I’ve never seen before. Possibly to make it look like there’s more demand for the show than there actually is.
If her arenas ticket sales are so poor, there’s no way she could do MLB stadium shows solo.

The videos for Seattle and Vegas show packed arenas. And she's charging $300 for lousy seats. I think her lowest tickets are $60.

That may be so (or may not be an accurate representation of ticket sales).
Take a moment and go to the source - go to Ticketmaster. Look at the seating maps for what's actually happening. For example, look at the map for the upcoming Atlanta show:
https://www.ticketmaster.com/stevie-nicks-atlanta-georgia-05-22-2023/event/0E005E34B2A231E1
The arena can't be 1/3 sold. With even relatively more affordable $159 lower level tickets not selling well.
Note: it is even worse than the TM map shows - it appears that Ticketmaster is holding back every other row in entire sections in the lower level, to make it look like demand isn't as poor as it actually is.
Dismal ticket sales for Stevie Nicks there.
Compare: Bruce Springsteen recently sold out that entire arena in Atlanta, including side stage and behind the stage - which Stevie isn't even selling. At much higher ticker prices.

Oh my goodness... she's charging $1,000 face value for the first row! Wheelchair seating is only available in the first row for $1,000.00 per ticket.
The seat up top of $69.50 comes out to just under $100 with fees and tax.

That has to be the reasoning for the ticket price of $1,000. She doesn't perform a two hour show or a three hour show like Springsteen. And she performs two covers out of a 17 song setlist. For one thousand, those souls in the first row should get hand touches from Stevie!

Stevie’s shows are not selling well. I wonder how she feels performing in an area that is half full (or half empty depending on your point of view). Has to be a blow to her ego.

Bruce at 73 years old was non-stop, full-speed ahead, kick-ass rock and roll. His voice is best I've heard it. Oh yeah, he was sweating. I could feel the sweat on his hand when he reached down into the Pit and I brushed his hand. It was warm and humid inside the Greensboro venue, and at the end of the show he ripped open his shirt, with great panache. I've got to say, seeing him close up like that... Bruce is in incredible shape. The next day, I headed to the gym!
But this isn't a Bruce Springsteen message board. It's a Stevie Nicks message board. My underlying point is that Stevie's arena shows don't seem to be selling well. In contrast, Springsteen is selling out the same venues (side stage and back stage too), at much higher average ticket prices.
Why are ticket sales for Stevie's arena shows so dismal? Serious question.

My take only - Stevie just isn’t that big of a draw and hasn’t been for years. She has had jumps in popularity with the younger crowd over the last decade but I seriously doubt some teens or early 20’s girls who are in love with Stevie giving it to Lindsey in a 26 year old Silver Springs clip on TikTok are going to shell out the kind of money she’s asking for tickets. At least not in mass quantity.
A Springsteen concert in comparison is a spectacle. An event. A marathon where you are likely to get a selection of different songs either not played recently or ever before, and an energy level that is topped by very few (read: any) “classic” acts. He has a fanatic fan base that follows him year after year.
Stevie is popular, yes. She is the main draw in Fleetwood Mac, yes. But she’s overexposed and just not the kind of act that can pull in the numbers to fill out an arena tour unless she’s paired with another act (hence why the thing with The Pretenders did well - Stevie’s a greater draw, but The Pretenders are a big enough draw to fill out the gaps).

What about all those people who claimed she sells out arenas and is so popular?
She's hurt herself by touring way too much with mostly the same setlist but worsening vocals. Then add to the fact the prices for tickets are obscene and you have these shows not selling well.
She's not like Bruce in that he does change it up night to night ( this tour being an exception as he's sticking mostly to a standard setlist). Even with the setlist not changing much there are some songs in it that aren't played all the time at his shows.
The younger set who are newer fans clearly aren't interested in paying these prices and even some of her more older fans are clearly not interested either.

I remember all those cult members claiming she didn't need the Pretenders to sell tickets when we all know she did. I've said it before and I'll say it again. She cannot sell out arenas on her own name alone. She needs a strong opening act. Vanessa Carleton isn't going to cut it.

She cancelled Birmingham (4/5), Oklahoma City (4/11) and New Orleans (originally scheduled 4/2 and then rescheduled to 4/15, but now cancelled).
Why is Stevie *cancelling* these shows and not rescheduling? I feel like if ticket sales were not strong, she may not feel so motivated to reschedule rather than cancelling. It will be interesting to see how the May 2023 solo shows go.
Notably: when Springsteen had to cancel multiple concerts due to illness in the band, he rescheduled. He did not cancel.
AND: The Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks concert in Arlington scheduled for Saturday, April 8 is being postponed until next year, March 9, 2024. That’s a long time from now. My guess is the joint stadium shows have different contractual requirements for rescheduling than the solo shows. But that’s just a guess.

I think that’s a stretch. And my short answer is no. At least not in markets like Atlanta (weather hasn’t been a factor). And especially taking account other artists have had strong ticket sales in markets where Stevie seems to be struggling with ticket sales. Weather isn’t the variable.

So what happens financially with the tour when dates are canceled? Is Stevie taking a bath financially?
Here’s what Roger Daltrey from The Who told USA Today this week:
“Touring has become very difficult since COVID. We cannot get insured and most of the big bands doing arena shows, by the time they do their first show and rehearsals and get the staging and crew together, all the buses and hotels, you’re upwards $600,000 to a million in the hole. To earn that back, if you’re doing a 12-show run, you don’t start to earn it back until the seventh or eighth show. That’s just how the business works. The trouble now is if you get COVID after the first show, you’ve (lost) that money.“

Fall From Grace is a warhorse that she hasn't done from a while. Odd she chose that over a song from 24 Karat Gold, but maybe it's her message to LB.
I Sing for The Things could have been a more uptempo song from RAL like Some Become Strangers or maybe The Nightmare mixed with Bette Davis Eyes.

All of her concert reviews are critically golden. I Sing For the Things is a treat, so was Love Is 2010-2012. But I wish she'd return rock songs to her set. Fall From Grace is a great song but it was played nonstop for so many years.
It's so unlike Stevie to ignore her most recent album too. Remember she played a song from Street Angel during Enchanted, and from 2005-2013 she played TISL songs. 2016-2023, she played songs from In Your Dreams. But in 2022 and 2023, she didn't play anything from 24 Karat Gold (no Show Them the Way either but that song didn't sell any copies).
Maybe since she's playing with Billy Joel in 2024, she'll have something new. But I really thought she'd have new music this year considering she's playing 20,000 seat venues and I was wrong.

The endless tours with the same old setlist are clearly not working anymore. Although you have to admit that “I Sing for the Things” was a whopper surprise, as were “Bella Donna” and “Wild Heart” on the earlier tour. Those three alone were enough to balance her credit column. But, yes, I am exhausted with all of her touring.

Between her solo records, FM songs, and b-sides/movie songs, Stevie has a wealth of material to draw from, but using the same setlist (mostly) is definitely keeping folks away. One would think she would WANT to sing something new. She could have chosen any songs from Bella Donna and the Wild Heart to add to her setlist that would have excited her fan base, but instead, she chose the one song from Rock a Little that most folks forget existed lol. Man, even the Other Side of the Mirror has some decent songs that she could have rocked live- Long Way to Go, Ooh My Love, even Doing the Best I Can would have been interesting. It’s about as slow as I Sing For the Things but a hell of a lot more interesting.
I don’t follow Stevie and her solo tours that much, as she is not going to tour the UK.
But from what folk are saying, her play list does not change too much..
Maybe that is to do with her age, or wanting to stay in her comfort zone, or maybe just plain laziness.
But it must be boring for an artist, does she change her way of singing these regular songs, or just the same rendition too.
I know they are her bread and butter but she is taking the mick a bit..
Even if I could, I would not go to one of her shows for the same old, same old.

I bet she's going to open for Billy Joel in Hyde Park in July. He hasn't announced his other opener yet. Only Daryl Hall.
When Petty played Hyde, Lumineers and Stevie opened.

Perfect post. Escape From Berlin is incredible.
Long Way To Go is just to good to be true. Yet it was on her 2019 Anthology!
I Sing for the Things is cute but it's just dull. Like The Second Time:p

One concert doesn’t make a tour, but yeah Hyde Park is a keen venue..
And Billy Joel is worth the ticket price…
I hope she does open for him..

I'm not really a Billy Joel fan, but I think he'll definitely have the Park rocking. I think it's been years since he's played London.
As an aside, Lindsey posted about the Tango In the Night anniversary and so many people wrote they love When I See You Again. Add it to the set Stevie!

I think WISYA should have been reworked years ago - all the way back to 2009. It could have been a great replacement or addition to Landslide/Big Love in the set.

I completely agree. It actually could have a lot of potential in a reworked live setting.

Yeah but to be fair her set solo and with FM is filled with 95% of notes she can’t hit anymore. It would need to be reworked but I think they could’ve done something to make that dog of a song palatable in a live setting.

Stevie starts her Spring Tour tonight. Did anyone hear who was ill with COVID in the band?
Any chance of Twisted, If You Ever Did Believe, Rooms On Fire, 24 Karat Gold, or Angel?
Edit: Upsetting that there were no setlist changes. She had to start Sara again because she forgot where she was in the song.

How far into it when that happened??

She never started. It just meanders for a minute and then she chats Waddy up and admits she’s lost and has no clue where she was in the song. They quickly restarted and it seemed to be fine then.
This is one of those “thats rock and roll” type moments IMO. It happens.
I listened to Stand Back and it’s gotten Rhiannon level painful. It plods at a slow tempo and she sings it so painfully blah that I don’t understand why she insists on this tired setlist. The twirls are ridiculous. She’s nearly 75 - why is that even a thing she attempts to do still?

She didn't sing "Wait a minute baby..." but she did do the "hooh-hooh," but never sang "Drowning in the sea of love"
I think she has a teleprompter.

Very strange. Her vocals on Sara are what begins the song so she really was confused. In the old and crazy days she could dive back into the song with either right or wrong lyrics and get back into the groove. She seemed lost where to pick up the song. Reminds me almost of the Stand Back Albany 1990 but the band never stopped. It kept rolling until she got her groove. The RAL Chicago stop had her botching Rhiannon so bad that she says "Its my song, I got this" and tries to recover. Her coked out confidence was in full effect because she was just saying the same lyrics over and over.
Back in the day, her band always sort of improvised her behavior. 2 great examples are during her klonopin years, Outside the Rain in CA she came out and sang the last verse twice and somehow her band was so good you could not notice unless you really knew the song. In 1983 in OH on How Still My Love, she goes down to the audience to grab a hat and her band actually slows down so she can get back to the microphone for the second verse. I am always impressed with such a coordinated, orchestrated, and spontaneous venture ;)
I saw Cher in concert once and she is a perfectionist. There was a tiny mistake by her in a second verse that no one caught. She stopped the song and told her band to begin again. The band stopped immediately and then started immediately at her request.

She says they didn't practice Sara before this show. And if what sleepless child heard was true that Stevie was in bed with Covid for a month, then she likely didn't even soundcheck for this show.

She just got off the road and performed Sara several weeks ago. She has performed it a million times. Not a big deal to flub lyrics but the opening to Sara should be fairly easy.
If she did have Covid, its clearly affected her memory. Besides not knowing when to start Sara, not knowing the album RAL is odd. A few weeks ago she was talking about the recording of I Sing For Things.
I applaud her for doing this at her age though. From the Edge of 17 link, I see she still remembers what it sounds like ;)

Forgetting a line may be something not so weird. I remember Don Henley forgetting a line (I think it was a new song at that moment) during Hell Freezes Over (showed in a documentary) and Glenn laughed at loud.
But what I am reading here is something to worry about. Hope she is ok.

And for a few years now, Edge of Seventeen is more instrumental than lyrical.
Stevie said that they (her solo band) haven't done Sara in about 20 years but the solo Sara is just about the same as the FM version from 2009-2017.

the band actually sounds quite good. I like that the piano is upfront; always hated the BD concert version where it was too synth-y or whatever (maybe electric piano?). But boy, that's a real brain fart. and even if she missed the intro, once those chords started I would have expected her to just jump in with the "drowning...." It almost seemed like either she was fixated on trying to start with "wait a minute baby...." and couldn't figure out why the music wasn't matching....or she just really zoned and couldn't recall if she was in the middle of the song or the end or what... Agree at her age and with possible health stuff it happens... and she handled it great, as she always does with these sorts of things, including the audience in what's going on. But her voice seems to continue declining and she seems to stay more and more just rooted at her mic. I wouldn't say she should stop performing, but as others have said in other threads, maybe consider more intimate venues where she could tone it down and not strain her voice so much. But... ego.... and competitiveness prevent...

When I saw Stevie during her Trouble in Shangri-La tour, she messed up the lyrics to Planets of the Universe; during one of the taping of the Dance, she said in an interview she flubbed Dreams because she was nervous seeing so many celebrities in the audience. Take in account her age and being off the road for a month due to Covid, and it’s really more of a surprise that she didn’t mess up more lyrics that night. Covid fog is a real thing.
Even if she got the booster shots, that wouldn’t completely prevent her from getting Covid.

Who in this thread said getting a booster prevents you from getting COVID? I didn't.
It doesn't but I'm multi-boosted and I know if I got COVID that I wouldn't be in bed for four weeks. That's why we're told to get boosted so we don't have symptoms or have a mild case.

I work in a medical facility and know of people who had the boosters and still got very sick. Getting the boosters isn’t a 100% guarantee you won’t get it or only get a mild case. I’m not an anti-vaxxer, btw LOL I get the boosters.

I guess it depends on one's personal health. I got COVID in 2020 and didn't need to go to the hospital. But also Stevie may not have worn a mask backstage.
I'm sure if I got COVID in March of 2023 I wouldn't get very sick because of my 3 boosters.

I would say age is probably a factor, too. I’m sure Stevie wasn’t the only one in her entourage who had Covid, but she may have been the only one who had symptoms to the point she had to take time off the tour. I wonder if the band does random Covid testing? Stevie is probably surrounded by the same people day in and day out, but those people have lives, go shopping, interact with family members who go to schools, etc.
Im actually a big fan of masks now. I haven’t had the flu or colds as often. Having said that, though, I don’t always to remember to wear one when I’m at the store.

One thing I have always been fascinated about is how Stevie can learn and sing a very wordy and complicated ballad with Billy Joel without a flub. She has never sung the song before and she never misses a step. Yet on songs she has been on stage for a million times she can't handle simple verses from Don't Stop or Say You Love Me. Remember when during Chris's absence they dug out one of Chris's songs and she botched the hell out of the simplest lyrics she has heard a million times.
Just an interesting observation.
Now on with the show.
