Totally agree with these words! Thank you for such wonderful music for so many years and the wonderful memories...and yes, we still have so much to listen to 'Over and Over' again.

I find myself still putting on any old album because I love the music.

Lately: I've been in a Tango mood. Possibly because of the youtube. But, what a wonderful album to listen to in the fall. I love the deluxe version, too! :wavey:

If Mick wants to make some money the band can sign over royalties for the following items:

Give us a reissue of the 1980 Live album with untouched Sara, The Chain, Sisters, Think About Me, etc.

Give us un unpackaged Mirage show live CD. If you have all the footage from the LA show with Hold Me, Sara, etc release it in video.

I want raw, unleashed Fleetwood Mac. Its an outrage we have to go back to 1982 for the last album with these 5. Tango does not count in my book. One member was missing and only showed up for the photo shoot and a few whatsa matta babies.

The FULL Mirage concert is what we want, Mick. The rights must cost too much, or he'd have already chased this dollar bill down the street....

I agree. Actually the band was over long ago IMO, that's why I was glad just with the deluxe editions that included rehearsals, unreleased versions, etc. But enough is enough. I'm no interested in more unreleased editions or live audios anymore.

I know Mike and Neil wanted to make an album with FM, but I'm wondering if Stevie didn't want to make an album with the new FM lineup out of respect for Lindsey. As in the creative period of Fleetwood Mac ended with Lindsey as a member of FM.

I think Stevie views and wants Say You Will as the final Fleetwood Mac album and now her job and the band's job is to present the body of work of FM to people who want to hear the songs played by them in concert, with Mike and Neil helping FM do that.

Idk it seems quite sweet actually; she's not disrespecting Lindsey's time in FM by not making new FM music with Mike and Neil.

Oh wow, I could not disagree with you more ;)

You really think Stevie is respecting Lindsey by not recording with the Mac? I would never believe that for a second. Of course Mike and Neil dont want the cash cow to die and would love to record or play another tour. Stevie was not happy with Say You Will and most of the reason was Lindsey. She publicly disagreed with how the album was produced, packaged, and released. I doubt she wants to hold on to that legacy since it was not very successful nor fun for her to do.
I never bought the argument that Mike and Neil were true permeant members. Never did. They were stand ins for a tour that was already agreed to. Mick's statements were total rubbish. Never believed a word from him. Once that 2018 tour ended, I knew they would never share the same stage again let alone a recording studio. I think you have been listening to Sister Honey a bit too loud with your head phones ;)

I'll put it this way: Stevie will never make another album with Fleetwood Mac unless she and Lindsey reconcile.
I think in Stevie's mind: FM is really Mick, John, Christine, Stevie and Lindsey.
She got Lindsey fired probably because he diminished her talent, not because she didn't want to make an album with him.

The new lineup of Mac couldve had at least one album out by now.

It might be kooky but it’s exactly how Stevie’s mind works. I could see this logic in Stevie’s head. She would only want to do a FM album if he was involved. But she at the same time has no interest in ever working with him again. In her mind that all tracks

The band is definitely done. But solo work is not. Lindsey released a new album just last year and is now touring it. Stevie has released a GREAT cover song and is touring live as we speak also. Even Christine has her solo studio collection of songs out recently.

Mick is probably still playing gigs at his restaurant in Maui.

So yes the band are most likely done, but the solo members of said band are not (except maybe for John, who never really had a solo career anyway).

Also note both Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are still touring with Crowded House and the Dirty Knobs, respectively. With added publicity from their jaunt in Fleetwood Mac.

The music has well and truly NOT stopped yet, my friend! :woohoo:

We'll look back on these final years, and realise we had a slow fade out, rather than a last hurrah.

I often think about the LB/CM record, and imagine what they might have done with it, if Ms Nicks had joined in. A massive promotional push all over the planet. Maybe some great music videos! How about a re-worked Big Love video? Same location, zooming in rather than pulling out... They all still looked great in 2017.

I think they should repackage that album, call it 'On With The Show' by Fleetwood Mac. That's what it is, after all. Add a couple of bonus tracks, give it a decent cover. There's your final act.

I agree partially, cause nobody answered "If Lindsey gets fired I'll leave the band". So I would understand everybody cared about money. That's why I was upset with the whole band, then. Even with Lindsey, cause I also think we will never know the complete real details of what actually happened. They didn't tell the whole story, IMHO.

Stevie put the band first. Lindsey, a selfish egoMANIAC without a single Gold record, thinks people want to see him solo. They don't. His tours are restricted to TINY theaters and $20 tickets on Groupon. He doesn't even have a solo Gold album. He is not a star. SHE IS.

Multiple things can be true at the same time... to wit, Stevie can be the "star" of the band, AND she can have used that leverage to get the band to oust him. Also, one can be a star and still be lazy and riding on their past success, or be a not nice person. Most people who rise to huge levels of stardom are NOT the "nice guy" their PR would have you believe.

On the other hand, some things are just NOT true. The BAND did not say "you're fired". Stevie said to Mick 'you can tour with him or you can tour with me'. She could say that because she knew perfectly well if forced to choose they would choose her because of her impact on ticket sales. Ultimately Mick made the decision with Irving that they should tour with Stevie and the McVies were informed of it. Lindsey DID want to tour. He wanted to START the tour a couple of months later than they did, and he attempted to negotiate this with them. When they wouldn't budge, he attempted to negotiate fitting in some solo shows on the days FM wasn't performing(there are a lot of off days because of Stevie's need/want to rest longer between shows. This was also an issue on her solo tour with The Pretenders, to the point that The Pretenders booked their own solo gigs in between their shows with Stevie because they found the gap between shows to be too long).

Lindsey is indeed a star. Is he a star in the same way Stevie is? No, and frankly no one else in FM is. That said, he continues to put out albums and tour them. People pay to see him on those tours, so it is not true that people don't want to see him solo. I certainly have seen multiple of his solo tours, as I have seen multiple Stevie solo tours. I also saw Christine's solo tour. Does Lindsey have a career without Stevie? Why yes he does. If you want to argue the magnitude of his sales, that's a different story, but again, he can have way less sales than her and she can still have had him fired, so not sure what your point is..

If you read her comment to RollinStone last year, Stevie said he was fired because it was a toxic environment with him starting in 1968. Though I don't know why nothing was done about it for the decades leading to 2018, as in why he wasn't punished by Mick or John before 2018?

Lindsey owes her for his life! He should go over to her house every week, and scrub her toilet with his toothbrush! He should probably buy a new toothbrush before he scrubs it every week, then have to brush his teeth with it until the following week. I mean, a queen like her deserves nothing less! It would be his privilege to use it after her scrubbings.

The nasal Roseanne....I like that...

If I were coming to the ledge for the first time and saw your post, I would have thought you were being literal (in the first 2/3 of it). Why? Because there ARE fans out there who would be capable of saying such crazy things. Things like Stevie is the architect behind the band’s music since 1975. Things like she actually knew and cared about John Lewis before 2018. Things like she was the primary songwriter. Etc.

It's because most people think fame and being a star are the purpose of being an artist. Stevie pivots her beliefs to feed her stardom. The rest of them really haven't. It's the difference between being an artist and a megalomaniac entertainer with a constant changing false narrative. And as you can see, many folks buy into it.

If you read her comment to RollinStone last year, Stevie said he was fired because it was a toxic environment with him starting in 1968. Though I don't know why nothing was done about it for the decades leading to 2018, as in why he wasn't punished by Mick or John before 2018?

well.... first off, neither Lindsey nor Stevie was even in Fleetwood Mac in 1968, or even close to it. They joined in 1975. So no one in the band (ie, not Mick, not Christine, not John) had any problems with Lindsey going back to 1968. Only Stevie knew him as far back as 1968, so if there was toxicity, it was between HER and HIM, not the BAND. So, again, this supports that the person with a problematic relationship with Lindsey is Stevie, NOT "the band".

At any point in her relationship with Lindsey, Stevie could have walked away. There are interviews with her going back to the early days of FM in which she says that although her relationship with him had issues, she CHOSE to stay in it because they were professionally a duo, had made an album, and were in the process of making a second album as a duo. She has flat out stated for decades of interviews that her desire for success overrode her personal issues with him. This continued after they joined FM. She has stated hundreds of times that she decided that SHE would "not be the one who broke up this band" by leaving. Whether she was hoping HE would eventually leave, who knows. Ironically, that is exactly what happened. He left and she stayed back in the late 80s.... and the band was NOT nearly as successful and when he was in it.

Whatever their personal issues, she continued throughout all of her career to send him her songwriting demos and ask him for feedback. Tom Petty even stated that Lindsey remained her "best producer" and told how he (Tom) would struggle to figure out what to do with some of Stevie's song demos and then she would ask Lindsey and Lindsey would say "oh do x, y, z" and Tom would hear Lindsey's ideas and think "omg, he's right, I would never have thought of that". She did it most recently (that we know of) on Soldier's Angel when she got stuck working on it with Dave and couldn't make it what she wanted it to be and called Lindsey to bail her out-- which he did, that a$$hole.

Her comment about 1968 she made after he said publicly he had no idea what her problem was with him. He also basically publicly called her Norma Desmond.... which seems to have been the final trigger which led her to say that she was tired of working with him for reasons going all the way back to 1968. The question is, WHY would she have continued working with him and all that "toxicity" until MusicCares (2018)... a full FIFTY YEARS?? Clearly, MONEY. All that Fleetwood Mac tour revenue, royalties, etc. She wasn't the star she is now for all that time.... go look at where she was and the venues SHE was playing in the late 80s and into the 90s. She was not raking it in before she got that reboot from The Dance. ka-ching ka-ching.

She was willing to keep working with him when it was financially worth it. Once she did that solo tour with The Pretenders, which she has stated herself put her into "a whole other category" she realized she could make just as much money out touring solo as with FM, and she had all the leverage she needed to push him out.

I dont think it was that early premeditated. She was never happy with Lindsey but Chris coming back changed the dynamic. They made an album without her and toured. Her jealousy destroyed the band. She may have put up with Lindsey's antics since the 70s but they went on without her and that was crossing the line.

Right, and she threatened him with an autobiography.

Why hold hands, kiss, sing at, or hug in front of 15,000 concertgoers for 80 shows each tour with an "abusive" person for all that time? Did the fans really buy a ticket to watch hand holding or to get a rock show.

She's also said that the love they show on stage is real but once they leave the stage it's done and over. "We get the privilege of having our love affair every night"

No, he did not use those exact words..... :O

He said in several interviews after his firing that she was alone and lonely and only had her paid staff around her.

That is the story of Norma Desmond. It was a metaphor.

Besides firing Lindsey, Stevie has stymied the creativity of the band which we loved. Her drug addiction hurt Tango. Her klonopin addiction hurt BTM. It was great for her to stay after Chris left and SYW has some great Stevie songs. But when Chris came back we thought we would get a final studio album with the 5. Nope. She ruined that too. Now she's too busy chasing her own fame.
So yes its very frustrating what she has done to the band the last 30 years. We are left going back to 1982's Mirage to live golden days and find any scrappy demos to cherish :(
Looking back after all these years we can't help but wonder "what could have been?"

My feeling is that it hurt her when he said he thought it was hard for her to see him be happy starting a family at age 50.

In other words, she never found a husband and enjoyed a family together, and Lindsey probably knows that a soft spot for Stevie.

Remember she would tell Lindsey they'd go into a senior home and end their lives together? When his son was born, she said to Lindsey I guess we're not going into that senior home.

He got to be a star and have a family. I think of the life he was able to lead compared to Stevie's. Dare I say he gets to have cake and eat it too?

I will say this about Stevie's life: It's not easy being a Superstar/Legend. Especially at her age. It's extremely hard work. In many ways, it's not a great life. Even when you're having everything done for you. There's still vocal strain, energy issues, infighting of staff, being responsible for the business side, etc.

Add to that: you're never able to venture out in public. VIP status gets old and taken for granted. It's got to be annoying having security around you all the time. Can't be fun.

Lindsey and Christine to a degree can enjoy freedom, money, and creativity, along with being stars in their own right. Christine went from 1968-2018 (give or take) and a vacation of 15 years.

And Lindsey found the love of his life and made a family. Christine seems to have a peaceful life with a degree of freedom. And they won't be bankrupt like you know who, anytime soon.

Stevie made her moves within the scope of her power. The band and fame/money. After that, her glitter fades.

I buy this. But her hurt and jealousy do not excuse her anger. She used all of her star power to present Fleetwood and the McVies with an ultimatum she and Irving knew their greed would never allow them to challenge. They accepted her terms for tour $. She got to rewrite her role in the band history (as her PR team continues to do with those effing Showbiz Cheat Sheets) and, well, they all turned their back on the man who did the heavy lifting for decades.

Listen, Stevie’s persistence and star power are phenomenal. In many ways, her constant maneuvers to stay on top since 1997 have been equally as impressive as the musical legacy she exploited to stay on top after her comeback. I won’t deny her the achievement or the right to explore it.

But she has used that very power to hurt the band who furnished her stardom. She could argue that she is the sole reason the larger public even still thinks about Fleetwood Mac. She’s not wrong. For most, she is the face and voice of the band. People talk about her singing even in songs where she isn’t the lead singer. Most of the public is obtuse that way. But she basically destroyed the band to get her way. And felt she had the right and power to do so.

She had the power — this much we know.

But for me the bottom line is this: Buckingham/McVie and Buckingham’s latest solo album are more creative and original than anything she had done in decades. I say this as a fan of IYD.
